Staff is very friendly.The river can get hot if it is sunny, as there isn't much tree cover or shade, so I would recommend trying to go on a cloudy day or in the spring or fall, unless you enjoy hot weather. Fun times either way!

The only thing that has bothered me is the BLM painted on the sidewalk by the back playground. This park is for everone of every background. Highly suggest the kayaking there, whether you rent one or bring your own. The kayak rental stand has concessions and supplies (like sunscreen) in case you forgot anything. Grace Popple: Great day out. Well organized crew at Skip's means little time wasted and more relaxing with friends and family on the river. At the top of the river they had all the ordered boats set out so no need to wait to get them set up. At the pull out loads of enthusiastic Skips people to help pull us to shore and pull out and clean the boats. Pricing is good and the river is beautiful. We went with friends and a roommate and saw fish, a heron, and a turtle scurrying around under the water.

Rachel Stern: Took 7 friends on a trip yesterday. Booking online and signing waivers ahead of time was super easy. Instructions in email were clear about where to park, and there were signs at the metro park. The trip itself was great, lots of opportunities to stop at a park along the way if wanted. We pulled off at the cider mill in Dexter and enjoyed donuts and cider. Most in the group were pretty inexperienced at paddling, but we had no issues, the long trip took us about 4 hours including the shuttle ride and cider stop.

I recommend bringing a picnic lunch and stopping along the river to get out relax and enjoy the view and nature. This is an excellent way to spend the day, get some exercise and enjoy the river. Andy Newman: Mac's is a great place to rent a boat! The owner and staff are really friendly and helpful and the boats are clean and in great shape. When we rented a pontoon for an afternoon, the staff provided a nice overview of the boat and the lake, and mentioned good places to anchor and swim. The shop is well equipped with tackle, bait, beer etc. Boating on Whitmore Lake is a great activity with kids. The fact that there is a good ice cream stand right off the dock is the icing on the cake.

Danielle Williams: A well rounded review includes the good and bad of the day.The Good - Customer service is huge for me. Making the reservation was seamless. All of my questions were answered. Check-in was easy....and our rentals (2 pontoons) were ready on time and clean. My group had a great time.The Bad - We were advised that if the propellor is damaged, we would be responsible for a $200.00 fee. A map was provided to show areas where we could dock/or let the anchor down to deboard. The lake has so many shallow places, that it was difficult to dock without the propeller getting too close to the lakes bottom. When we found this out.....our propeller was still in-tact....so we decided to dock a little further out.....to preserve our propeller. The anchor is not strong enough to hold the pontoon in place with 10 people aboard. Countless times, we drifted to the shore, which put our propeller in harms way. Ultimately, it was damaged and I paid the fee. I called the next day to discuss the anchor situation with the owner, he requested 4 days to do an investigation with his employees and never called me back. I called again and still have not received a call back.Full disclosure, if you are not an experienced boater...prepare to pay the extra $200. We were told that the customers before us also bought a new propeller. Googling propellers online shows they cost between $60-300 retail. I'm sure they are profiting by selling it to their customers at a retail price, while buying wholesale. The customer service is good, until there is a problem and then they go dark. If you anticipate the probability is high that you will pay the extra fee.....you will have a great time. As for me and the 19 other folks we brought.....we are going to try another lake that doesn't have so many shallow spots next time.

Paula Hall: We had a FABULOUS experience at Mac's Marina. Despite living closer to the Orchard Lake/Cass Lake area, we chose Mac's based upon the reviews, and are so glad we did. Paul and Sam went out of their way to make our day delightful. They walked us through everything we needed to know; pontoon was very clean; and, all maintenance very up-to-date. Whitmore Lake was very pleasant, and calm, with a nice beach for kids to swim. Snack shack had good selection of food and "real" ice cream. We would gladly return to Mac's.

Mark Parrish: Went on Labor Day last day of the season for them to be open. It was very crowded but the employees still handled it well lots of options between paddle boats and character style paddle boats that seat five people that the kids love I also rented two two-person kayaks the rates were pretty reasonable. The only flaw that I saw was the rental time of a minimum of an hour started the moment of purchase and it takes probably about 5 to 10 minutes to get everything going and then The kayaks were on the other side of the parking lot so when coming back it took a few minutes to get back to the return area so that cut into the hour of payment so it ended up being about 45 minutes for the first hour of actual on the late time though I did stay out for closer to 2 hours. When you get back you pay the difference of time used if you go over the hour

Cheryl RONK: The lake has is gross. There is so much algae in the water that it is disgusting. This is the first year that that has seemed to be a big problem.

Athena Belanger: Not a wheelchair accessible place as they do NOT have accessible kayaks and all the boat launches requires the travel through sand. I was highly disappointed because after paying to get in the park and being told they have adaptive kayaks and finding out differently. I will stick with Gallop park.

I highly recommend this family owned and operated business and wish Nick good luck now that he has taken ownership.

sam jackson: I live directly behind them. Boat is parked right at the shore. Nick told me he cant put the boat in for a month and chuckled. Literally a 10 minute job from start to finish. Won’t wrap my boat and winterize my boat here ever again. Not too smart of you nick.

Janelle Brown: If I could give 0 stars I would. We have been taking our boats there for as long as I can remember. Normally we have had minor issues and the one employee is always very helpful and polite. Our cottage is just down the road and has been in our family for 30 years or so. In July of 2022 we needed a new starter for our boat. Bought a new starter from N&K. We took the boat out 2 more times after the new starter was installed. Our boat is well taken care of, is always covered and sits on a boat lift when not in use. In August we went to take the boat out and it would not start. We got it started by tapping on the starter and then removed from the water and took to a marina closer to our home town. Sure enough the starter is bad. The women working the counter at N&K was not only extremely rude, questioned how we knew the starter was bad, offered zero assistance and refused to refund or replace the starter that we had only bought 2 months prior. They have now lost loyal customers of 23 years.

We felt very comfortable leaving our boat with this marina. They were able to look at the issue within just a couple of days and called us with the estimate. They called us the next day with an updated estimate which was LESS MONEY.... I think they are very honest and skillful and fixing boat issues. We were checked out by Bobby who is the person that actually fixed our boat, again Bobby was very friendly and knowledgeable. I have 100% confidence in this marina and would highly recommend them!

D K: I've been taking my deck boat to JR for several years and have never been disappointed with the level of service received. Yes, you need to plan ahead (all boat maintenance providers are busy in Spring/Fall) but they're honest and will do their best to get you in/out and at a fair price. I live in Brighton and if I was to use the local guys, I'd need to be scheduling a year out - or anticipate a problem before it happens!

Patty Browne: They do not work on older boats. They also do not winterize them or even bother to look at them. They do not tell you that when you call or even when you get there and check in.But they do tell you that later (2 days) when the rude guy on the other end of the phone asks you to come and get your boat and I quote "as soon as possible" like it's a piece of old gum stuck to the bottom of their shoe.

Understandably they get busy at the end of the year and was told that it would take 5-6 days to get to, so I asked if I can arrange for the boat to be inside so it does not freeze, the older lady said no, we don't offer that. I asked if I could make an appointment so I can bring the boat on the day of service, she said no, we are not taking appointments. So I asked if they wanted my business, she said yeah but we are getting ready to close in a couple weeks. I said, how do you expect to get my or any new business.This is the kicker.....The older lady said, we have plenty of business and maybe you should have planed better so you don't have this kind of problem.To the owner of this business, this lady cost you a long time customer. Not only that, I will make sure I tell everyone at our Marina during our end of year open house that you have enough business and you are not interested in New or re-accruing business patrons who come to you in the last month you are open. you do not deserve the one star you received.

Chris Moore: Customer service is horrible. If you call and ask for advice or perhaps need a part or two, prepare to get yelled at over the phone and pay a whole lot of extra money. I refuse to do business with this marina anymore. Its quite a shame too as they are in walking or boating distance from my house.
