Linda Winter Culver: Matt seems like a nice, extremely knowledge guy. He came to our home twice, provided quotes for several jobs. We signed a contract and he went MIA immediately after. No money changed hands, but we've called, texted, begged him, or someone at the company, to reach out to us (we have a deadline to meet with Canton Township.) Sometimes the phone rings and goes to voicemail, sometimes the voicemail box is full, sometimes the phone line doesn't work. We've emailed, as well. I'm super disappointed in the situation, even worried that something may have happened to him. The whole experience is just plain ODD.We will be hiring someone new unless we hear back in the next day or so.
John Geeting: Mathew and his crew installed a driveway addition and replaced a porch cap for me. The end result looks great, the slope should work well for rain runoff, and they did it without tearing up my lawn or even cutting one of the many cable lines running through the area wear they dug.The price was very fair and I was impressed that instead of replacing a sinking sidewalk I asked about he suggested I save money and have it raised.I highly recommend Gatlinbyrd Cement!
Susan (in Belleville): What a nice company to work with, Matt and his crew were awesome! They were here working for 6 days and the boss, Matt, was here every day. Very nice job, we are very pleased with the work, they did a large stamped concrete patio and replaced two sidewalks.Update, 9 months later...Over the winter and during the Spring thaw we've had a few problems with the cement chipping off on 3 corners, they were all on saw cut edges. After numerous attempts to contact them, Matt finally came to take a look and told us there was nothing they were willing to do to fix it. He suggested a couple fixes that we could try but that's it. Allison Kincius: Matt and his team were outstanding to work with. I scheduled with them in January to build a concrete patio to replace a deck that was falling apart. They came out as soon as the frost restrictions lifted. Given the nature of the project there were some odd bits but the finished product is beautiful, easy to walk on in bare feet and best of all moves water away from the house! I had other estimates that were so much more expensive. They were very professional and hard working men. Very friendly and personable and easy to work with. Matthew Robertson: Excellent customer service and professional work. Followed up my messages and phone calls promptly and provided a competitive quote same day, better than three other contractors who provided higher quotes and then never responded to me to schedule a visit or work date. Matt and his crew came to my house early Saturday morning with a mixing truck, got to work filling a trench in my basement, cleaned everything and were done before 1pm. These are leaders in cement contracting to set the standard.

Bo Bucklin: Great work, fast service and very reasonable price. Make sure you put your special reqirement in writing and get feedback ahead of time so not be left out in a hurry. These guys move from job to job fast. So anything not in their regular routine can be forgotten easily. However, once they understand your point, they will gladly follow. Project: half circle concrete driveway connecting to another concrete driveway, garage concrete floor with exterior wing and concrete patio, including gutter drain below the concrete. Proper slopes on all exterior concrete work so no standing water after rain.
Matt Lesko: Can only assume the positive reviews are from close associates, since trying to get someone out to do an estimate was like pulling teeth, and after finally getting a scheduled appointment and with us even following up with texts the same day to check time (since no timeframe at all was given prior to the date), it was a no show, and they had no followups since to say anything about why they failed to show up. In short, we wasted a whole Saturday waiting on this no-show.UPDATE: Sorry, there was only a time given of after 12PM. Storms were a few hours later. As well, if nobody was then doing anything when the storms did actually hit, then there was plenty of time to send a short text stating nobody was coming at all that day, even after the storms. The only text followup came 3 days later, coincidentally after a review showed up. So the response to this review blaming weather, and claiming things like “playing by ear” is not accurate. If the owner would like to chat further on the accuracy of events with this military officer vet, I would welcome it. This includes facts of only finally being provided an estimated time of arrival of after 12 PM at 9:14 AM that same day of the appointment, 3 days after we had originally asked what the appointment timeframe would be. In any case, we now decline your offer made 3 days later via text of trying a new appointment to have a final estimate for the work we were originally requesting. That work will now be done by someone else.
Scott Willets: We jack-hammered up the curb in our garage to repair the sanitary sewer line. I got several quotes but nobody wanted to do the job this year, they said they were scheduling for next year. Matt and his crew hopped right on the job the very first rainy day( it was an indoor job) and kept the heavy concrete trucks off my driveway by delivering the concrete with a powered buggy. Matt also gave me advice on pouring a small bumper strip using bonding agent, which we did and his additional price for this small extra was reasonable. The work quality was very good, their prices reasonable and their attitude excellent.

Stephanie Meggison: Tom came and gave us an estimate for a new asphalt parking lot. We had three companies give us estimates, A2 asphalt was on the high side, of all three quotes. We went and seen the other companies work and we were not happy with the quality of their parking lots. We called Tom and his crew came out and did an AMAZING job. The job took two days (my parking lot hadn't been taken care of for 10 years) and the company came out to make sure I was happy with the parking lot, sidewalks, and back yard asphalt pad. A2 asphalt is 100% worth every dollar that I paid for their service.
Michelle Eastlake: We had our asphalt driveway resurfaced earlier in the year and a small patio poured in our backyard. Overall happy with the driveway but a little disappointed with the patio in the backyard. We were told to let it sit two days before putting any furniture on it and we waited two weeks to be safe. However the first time we sat in a chair on the patio, the legs of the chairs sunk into the asphalt and have left multiple little holes in the patio. I asked about the bad review because I was so surprised that the lady in the office would do something like that, but she said she was on the phone with 3 customers at the same time and the call had somehow accidentally got disconnected before she could provide some suggestions on who may help that customer dump their old asphalt.I'd highly recommend using them for all your asphalt and paving needs, commercial or residential!

He looked at all the levels of our house and both inside and out. He answered all of our questions and even gave suggestions for what we could do ourselves. He explained what to look for with older homes and when to be concerned. It turns out we don't need any foundation work right now. Now a gentleman named Ethan was supposed to call me to set up an appointment never did, so I called him. Expecting the worst, he told us it was nothing to be concerned about as it would not effect the integrity of the foundation or structure. He advised a floating floor as we were planning already. I appreciate that he didn't try to take advantage of a situation to make a buck! (Actually many!) We thank him for his honesty and speaks volumes to this company's reputation!!!

G NB: A-1 did concrete leveling for us. They did an amazing job. We were hoping they could make some improvement in the driveway but didn't expect that they would be able to level it as well as they did. The guys kept working at it until everything matched. They were professional and thorough. Cleaned everything up after they were done. Gave us a 4 year guarantee that it would stay level or they would come back and redo any area. After they leveled it we caulked all the cracks. We couldn't be more pleased.

Anthony DelRicci: Unfortunately there was no way for concrete leveling to fix the issues with my patio, but A1 came over on a Sunday to have a look and were very thorough and honest with their capabilities and problems with the concrete. Friendly, professional, and informative. If I ever need concrete leveling done in the future, I wouldn’t hesitate to use A1.
Curt Bagne: A-1 did a great job leveling the slab in my basement, which had sank about 5" on one side some time prior to my buying my house. Their sales guy who did the estimate was helpful and honest. The crew that did the work was professional, experienced, and got the job done in a timely manner without cutting corners.

Pete Ward: Greg was very responsive and very easy to communicate and work withHe was able to provide a quote for free and was on time and provided feedback and advice on the driveway.On the day of install Greg and his team were here early and got the job done really fast.Due to the weather, the pour had to wait but when it the pour day came they were early and got the work done quick.After 24 hours his team came back and saw cut and made sure the rest of the driveway was good to go.I called five different cement companies and Greg was the only one to return my call. I’m glad I went with Rolland because the price was more than fair and the quality of work is stellar as well.All my neighbors have commented on how well the driveway looks. His price was competitive (received quotes from most local and some downriver contractors) and he had done previous work for us in the past that went well. Scott Ryan: Nobody wants to spend hard-earned money on cement. We were those people that kept putting off our driveway replacement because of the insane quotes, unresponsiveness of contractors, or just the lack of enthusiasm to spend the money. After contacting 7 or 8 other contractors for a quote, it seemed like nobody wanted the job or really cared to take the time to quote it and get us on their schedule (or respond to our inquiries, period).When I contacted Greg (Rolland) it was the opposite experience. He was quick to respond, insightful, honest about timing and price (spoiler alert, he was also one of the lowest quotes), seemed genuinely interested in the job, etc. He responded by email and text (which I loved) so that we weren't playing phone tag all day long.Once we got scheduled, his team (including him) showed on on time (literally, to the minute) and busted their butts until the job was done. They worked day and sometimes night (Frank, cutting the expansion lines /joints at 9pm on a Sunday night) in order to get everything done.We're now the proud owners of a new driveway (hooray?). The workers were amazingly skillful, professional and friendly. In total we had a new driveway designed to divert water into a drywell which was 5 ft deep, a new retaining wall and flower beds along the new drive. The stairs gets compliments by anyone who walks up them. The sidewalk was elevated to avoid a step up into the house. All these things were designed to divert water away from the house which is Amazing and beautiful. We were introduced to Brandon Fischer, Mettlework Designs to do a railing on the stairs and porch which we love. Debbie F: Sam from Midwest Construction was great to deal with 2 years ago during the installation and we loved our new driveway and sidewalk. We noticed this spring that the driveway concrete is pitting and peeling; we have not used ice melt pellets for 2 years so that we could avoid this issue. We even paid extra to have a sealer installed. I have contacted Sam multiple times. He keeps saying he will come out to inspect it but never shows up. Mark Nolff: Untrustworthy business owner. My neighbor hired this company to do some work in his backyard. The side easements on my neighbors property were not wide enough for the equipment needed, so I let them drive on my property to be neighborly, with the gentlemen's agreement my property would be repaired back to its original landscaping slope. Obviously this wasn't done or I wouldn't be writing this post! Called him, and asked the neighbor to get this fixed both requests left empty! I'm left with ankle breaking divots along my property line.GOOD JOB!
Amy Nowland: I've never been so impressed with a company and their work ethics. My driveway was a mess. It banked toward my house causing water issues. My downspouts contributed to the problem. The front and back steps were awkward and falling apart. Now all the water issues are gone, my driveway tills away from the house, all my down spouts drain underground. We moved the sidewalk creating a graceful walkway to the new steps. Right now a 13'x12 foot shed is being built. Heather Kleber: We initially had some challenges scheduling our service, but once we set a date, the work was done quickly, professionally, and beautifully.They had a large crew come out to tackle our steep, disintegrating dirt driveway. They took the time to make sure the design was exactly what I had in mind and the results were amazing. Nick Aquino: Neighbors patio looks great. The guy running the show is an a-hole. They started running their equipment at 7am outside my kids bedroom window. When I asked if he was following the noise ordinance (used to be dusk to dawn, apparently 7-7 now), he revved the motorized wheelbarrel and drove off ignoring me multiple times. Also, despite the crew speaking fluent English to me weeks before, the same guys act like they didn't understand me when I asked if they were allowed to run equipment before dawn. They also keep blocking fire lane.If you like your neighbors, don't hire this crew. They are a-holes.

Midwest Construction took over - corrected the problem and even enhanced the driveway with curves as opposed to straight lines. Additionally, the previous contractor created significant problems with grading. MW took on the challenge and made a problem I had no idea how to fix and made it right. Matthew Hahn: Had the pleasure of having Sam come out and give me an estimate for replacing my patio and he was nice and very knowledgable. Due to rain things got delayed a little, but when they came and did the patio, the crew was very polite, meticulous and kind. Holger Elischberger: Last fall when other companies apparently were too busy to even return calls or took weeks to schedule an initial visit to our house to assess the work that needed to be done, Sam came out within a matter of days, drew up plans, and gave us an estimate. Because it was too late in the season for them to fit us into the schedule last year, we had the work done this spring. Working around the many bad-weather days we've been having, Sam's crew did a fantastic job replacing our very long driveway as well as putting in a concrete patio and back stairs - and at a fraction of the cost that some of our neighbors have recently paid for smaller jobs than ours. Lots of thanks also to Iba who kindly put up with our many questions via email. :)
