Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County: what do users think?
Osomar Fire: I try to enroll in the anger management clases and parenting clases and I couldn’t get help from any of the stuff members never give me information trough the phone and I went there they toll me Wendy was gonna call me or email me she did once and she never reply to any of my emails back so sad
Solid Jackson: I love venting to my THERAPIST.
David Reamer: If your a man going to set up Supervised parenting time DON’T GO HERE! Wish you could select-5 they are horrible
Robin Root: Joseph and Dr Quinn are amazing!
Christa Hughbanks: What a wonderful place and multitude of services
Kelley Cranford: We had a wonderful experience six years ago with them adopting our son. We have recommended to many people. Would do it all again.
Monika Sacks: CSS provides many great, and much needed services to our community.
DeeDee Heard: Ive been calling around trying to get services and everyone (including my health insurance) points to a person at this facility. Ive been trying to get in contact with this person for months, left several voice mails and even tried contacting anyone else in the office for assistance but i still haven't heard anything. Depression only just got worse because of this..
Lesley: WE FIRST MET ELLY AND THE REST OF THE CSS STAFF AT AN INTRODUCTORY ADOPTION CLASS IN 2011 AND ADOPTED OUR DAUGHTER IN 2012. FROM THE FIRST CLASS, WE JUST FELT LIKE WE WERE IN THE RIGHT PLACE FOR OUR ADOPTION AND FOR THE FIRST TIME CONSIDERED AN OPEN ADOPTION. CSS IS THERE TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL PARTIES INVOLVED IN THE ADOPTION PROCESS ARE CARED FOR IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE. THEY CARE ABOUT THE BIRTH MOTHER, THE PARENTS ADOPTING AND THE BABY THAT IS INVOLVED. ADOPTION CAN BE A LENGTHY AND EMOTIONAL PROCESS FOR ALL INVOLVED AND CSS IS THERE TO HELP YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.
Sharene Rumohr: I can not explain how wonderful Catholic Social Services is. They were with us through the whole adoption experience. What I love most about them is they care for everyone in the adoption process. They take care of the adoptive parents(which we were) but they also give great counseling to the birth mothers. Our experience was wonderful. I am so glad CSS recommends open adoptions, because we not only have a wonderful baby but we have a good relationship with the birth parents. Also Elly is fabulous! She was definitely the reason we chose CSS.
renee: I adopted both of my children as infants through Catholic Social Services and have referred several of my family and friends who were considering adoption to the agency as well. Some things you should know whether you are a birth parent or potential adoptive parent:1. This agency promotes open adoption which means they encourage a relationship between you and the birth parent, as well as the child and the birth parent even after the adoption is final. The agency honors the birth parent and educates the prospective adoptive parents about the open adoption process and why it is beneficial for all involved. Prospective adoptive parents attend classes about the benefits of the process and in my case, I heard from children of closed adoptions and open adoptions. It was extremely beneficial to hear from all sides and learn how the process works and the effect it can have on the children placed for adoption.2. Although the agency works with both birth parents and adoptive parents, there are separate case workers for each and very little interaction between the two until the birth parent has made the decision to place the child with birth parents. This is to ensure that the birth parents do not feel pressure to place the child with a family and have an opportunity to explore all possibilities with regard to parenting the child themselves.3. The staff/caseworkers are wonderful and work with the adoptive parents to maximize their visibility to birth parents. I have not specifically worked with the birth parent caseworkers, but have received nothing but good reports from those who do.Overall, I have nothing but praise for the work this agency did for me. They respect and provide support for both the birth parents and adoptive parents. They have helped me build my family and I forever will be grateful.
Aniketa Sarkar: Catholic Social Service of Wastenaw County is a great place where you can be comfortable to share your thoughts and feelings. You will also build up a silent confidence in yourself and they will help you to look forward not behind. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. This is a place where you will always gain a POSITIVE ENERGY!
Amanda Thomas: We had an overwhelmingly positive adoption experience with CSS. As an adult adoptee, I was searching for an agency that treated ALL members of the adoption triad with empathy and respect. CSS goes above and beyond to ensure that women facing unplanned pregnancies receive counseling and guidance regarding ALL of their pregnancy options. Women who choose to make an adoption plan are supported through every step of the process and can return for counseling post-placement. Women who choose to parent are also supported! We were able to develop a trusting relationship with our son's first mother and we have a healthy open adoption. We consider CSS the gold-standard in adoption!
Michelle Heikka: Over six years we adopted our three children through Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County and we couldn't be happier. Before we entered the adoption pool, the entire process was explained to us. We knew exactly what to expect throughout the entire adoption process. They also supported us while we were in the adoption pool - three times! Whenever I had a question or just felt anxious, I knew I could call them and would get the answers and the sounding board I needed. And now that our family is complete, and our "baby" is six years old, I still call for adoption support and advice. They helped us build our family, supported us through the process, and continue to support us as our family grows. They will get you through this process with compassion and understanding. Also important to me, they treated our children's birth mothers with the same compassion and understanding both during the pregnancy and after they placed their children with us. And just like they continue to support us, they continue to support our children's birth mothers almost eleven years later. They do what's best for birth mothers, for children, and adoptive families.
Monica Hicks: Catholic Social Services handles all parties in the adoption process in a respectable and empathetic way. They are informative and educated about every aspect of adoption. CSS is very thorough in the education provided to adoptive parents, birth parents, and the community. CSS has always been very professional in their manner of service to all of those they come in contact with and is a first-class adoption agency.
Kristina Masters: We had a wonderful experience with CSS assisting with the adoption of our son. Our case worker, Elly, was amazing! They provided lots of education and emotional support which made a difficult process much easier. We used a different agency for the adoption of our older child and were left feeling as though they only cared about our money. This was far from the case with Catholic Social Services. They continue to send educational emails and check in from time to time.
Holly Kalusha: The scheduling for classes and visitation is a joke. No one can ever give a correct date and the hidden costs are ridiculous.
Tony Mullins: My name is Beth and this is the Worse place ever! Say thay help everyone in need but what thay don't tell u is u have to have to have money to be helped and don't care one bit when ur husband has cancer and it's hard to get to them to see ur counsler! O there's more but just don't have time to finish GRRRRRRR
Andrew P: Don't mind helping those that need help

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services: what do users think?
Dan de Joux: I recently had a hearing with the Hearing Administration and MDHHS. Basically the "caseworker" and her supervisor lied and said they know more than the Washtenaw County director about processing applications. The supervisor listed on the hearing notice was not the person who was present.Hearing Officer McClintock is not impartial because he is paid by MDHHS and will not rule against the people who sign his check.A third party called Independent Medical Networks (Ginny Sutcliffe) filed a fraudulent Medicaid application and even though I called Venus Hughey several times to have the application canceled, she lied, saying that she never received my calls. In fact it was a month after I requested a hearing that she came across the request. Shows how incompetent MDHHS employees really are!! It's illegal to file a fraudulent application but it's not illegal for MDHHS to process a fraudulent application. But the governmental agencies don't want to pursue criminal charges against the perpetrators. They would actually have to do their job!! The Attorney General's office said there was no evidence of fraud by Ms Hughey because no investigation was ever conducted. These idiots also listed Ginny Sutcliffe as my authorized representative even though I never signed any documents. They listed her as being removed as my authorized representative. Not that she never was.She and her supervisor said there was no reason to think the application was fraudulent. Nobody reached out to verify the information. That's why there is fraud going on. Because the employees of MDHSS are too lazy to verify the applications. The expenses on the application was $500 more per month than the listed income but this didn't raise a red flag!!They knowingly accept fraudulent applications as long as it's filed by the health care providers or their third party representative. They commit felony fraud because they know that the government won't pursue criminal charges. The illegal Medicaid can't be revoked. If I had committed fraud I would go to prison and have to repay all the money paid out. MDHHS sent me a letter stating that the Medicaid was canceled. The reason for the cancellation was that I was not eligible. But they can illegally approve me. To further prove her incompetence she illegally accessed my employment history!! No legal right but they have access to people's lives!!Because of the illegal approval and cancellation I won't qualify for the UM Hospital Foundation. The only way I can get a much needed surgery is to pay $30,000-$40,000 out of pocket. But since University of Michigan Health System, Independent Medical Networks and MDHHS committed fraud, no money will ever be paid back. The Attorney General, Inspector General and the governor aren't concerned when the health care provider and MDHHS commit fraud. They need to start doing their job!! They would pursue individuals who commit fraud. But not MDHHS, health care providers and third parties because it provides millions in illegal money.I continue to declare that I have NEVER received Medicaid. This is the 3rd time in 9 years I was illegally put on Medicaid because everyone committed fraud to make sure they get paid with the federal money.Sadly several people reviewing here have been denied or had benefits canceled because MDHSS employees are lazy and incompetent. People also say that caseworkers and supervisors don't answer the phone or return calls. That's so true!!! They also make decisions based on how much money MDHHS can profit. Basically MDHHS employees sit on their lazy behinds and get paid to do nothing. The Inspector General and Attorney General have no interest to pursue any fraud by anyone because it helps pay their check. We need to contact Ronnie Peterson, Jeff Irwin and Gretchen Whitmer to have the laws changed and enforced. Make the lazy incompetents actually do the jobs for which they are paid!!This agency needs to be dismantled and reorganized.
sea weed: Impossible to call. I’ve called and called and called and just silence.
Makayla Stumbo: Worker keeps messing up my case 🤦‍♀️
Manda Marcell: I have had EBT benefits for years, and can honestly say that during the pandemic when there was literally one person in the office (Mr Clifford) dealing with thousands of cases, he was more responsive than my new case worker has been this past year. For the month of Dec I was refused because supposedly I did not turn the paperwork in within 30days, didn’t matter that Christmas was this month and my case worker was not even in the office for a week to process my pay stubs. Then for January I got a loan (from family) to help pay PAST DUE rent and it set my income limit over for the month = no food stamps again. I even sent over the paper from my landlord to show I was in debt.. I’m eight months pregnant and have a seven year old at home. I filled out another application for food stamps 10 days ago - not a word from anyone. This place is an absolute joke
prawnda snibbles: utterly corrupt and negligent. they have deliberately entered my information wrong for 13 years, leading to my extended homelessness and being denied disability for the same 13 years. the other reviews are not lying, these people will play games with your life and they don't care if you are sick, freezing, starving, or being abused. just being expected to do the most basic aspects of their jobs results in them getting extremely angry and taking out their aggressions on innocent people by vindictively denying them benefits they are legally obligated to provide.
Ledisi Unique: This DHS office has to be the worst world wide. I wish I could give zero stars
Casper Wander: It says to press 0 to speak to an operator and nothing happens.
M. S.: Horrible. Misinformed me. Delayed my case. Never answers or returns calls.
Krysten Booker: I had to drop off paperwork here, and I will admit that the front desk lady was really nice. HOWEVER - I have called quite a few times since then for an update and never received a response. I would even talk to the front desk person and they did not know how to help me. They just gave me the number of my specialist's supervisor. Still no luck. I already missed an important deadline I was supposed to meet, but couldn't because no-one knows how to answer their dang phones! I am going to call and bug them/fill up their voicemail box every day until I get a response because this is ridiculous.
Harley Hoskins: Extremely rude service the gentleman spoke to us wouldn't give us a quote and screamed at us and refused to talk like a sane person, I will be coming in person to file a massive complaint to this man's supervisor face to face, as apparently this organization doesn't seem to understand what a consequence is, I will be contacting you guys again directly,
The LEE: Everything and everyone is horrible!!
Jeff Scott: Been leaving msg All week just to get no response at all !!!
Stella Fiorini: They called me and were supposed to call back when I wasn't busy but never did. I've tried calling so many times and can't even get through to leave a voicemail, will be going in person asap
Ashlyn Thompson: I have been trying to reach Ms. Mills for over a month now about my food benefits I did everything I was supposed to do and sent things via mail. She hasn't responded, she hasn't called me back and now my benefits are gone because she refuses to do her job. Why should I have to suffer because of her lack of? This place is horrible and I hate having to deal with them
Purdrell Rhimes: Calling to speak to a worker they do not have an option or no one answers the phone I have an emergency case I have applied for in person and still haven't have a phone call in 3 weeks no one has reached out to me or I haven't been able to reach anyone concerning my matter
Riley Richmond: Literally years of bad reviews and nothing seems to change? Starting benefits was fortunately pretty smooth, but keeping in touch with and updating my worker has been an utter nightmare. The phone doesn’t even ring, it just goes directly to voicemail. Someone seriously needs to overhaul this department.
Hasan Zahid: They worth 0 star. Most of the time unreachable. Rarely respond to voice messages and emails. Even if response, completely unprofessional. I never see this type of unprofessionalism. The worst office ever.
Krystalyn Katz-Page: (Pre- all documents being submitted) Been trying to get help with getting my food assistance on for over 2 months! Everytime I call, I get sent to voicemail 🤦🏽‍♀️ I leave voicemails and never get return calls 💯😩 I even tried to speak to a supervisor here about not being helped or getting called back, I was told they can’t help me with talking about my worker. I’ve had to call Lansing for help because apparently this office wouldn’t/won’t help me and my worker doesn’t call back or answer the phone.. to make matters worse, I was told by my worker that I shouldn’t have called Lansing on them because I only left one voicemail 🤔 but that confirmed she heard my voicemail and willfully chose not to call me back to answer questions that I had.(3 weeks post- all documents being submitted) I have been calling my worker all day today because with times being so rough and already struggling beforehand, it only makes and made my situation worse than it already is. However, of the 7/8 times I’ve called today, I’ve gotten no answers and when I spoke to the operator, she checked my case and said it was still being worked on 🤔😵‍💫🤨❓⁉️❔ I’m so annoyed and confused because all my documents are turned in but no one will speak to me or return calls. I’m thankful I was told that much by the operator, however I was told to call after lunch but now even trying to call the operator no one answers the phone and my worker still isn’t answering!!!!Please do your freaking JOBS!! This department is literally helping crumble families that are already struggling 💯 I don’t understand, nor comprehend, how anyone could go into a field where you are to help the people but yet the job seems more about a paycheck then actually helping others!
Alexis Wilkie: Love ms. Brekke she definitely is on top of her job about everything!
Bobby Mathew: Have the courtesy to answer or return phone calls. There are people needing help - your automated msg doesn't help anyone.
Verona H.: I was approved for SER. Worker, and I use that term very loosely, Miss Valentine paid the WRONG Consumers acct.In MI in February, in 5 degrees, they shut off my gas.Sound legal?I called and called and called.Of course, they do not answer, not at this office or any office I've dealt with.My GAS WAS OFF IN 0 TO 10 DEGREES FOR 5 DAYS.AFTER BEING APPROVED FOR SER.Also, I am 100% Disabled, Deaf, live alone.I couldn't shower, cook food, of course NO HEAT.My calls were never returned. Then suddenly my Worker no longer worked there.Who is my Worker then? No one could answer.I finally emailed their supposed Supervisor, Renee Adorjan. She LIED and said all of Valentine's cases were reassigned and they SENT OUT LETTERS TO ALL OF HER CLIENTS.They surely did not.It took me another 2 MONTHS to find out who was now my Worker? Never answered me.Out of nowhere I get an email from some waste of space, S. Barnes, arguing about my gas having been shut off.Who are you lady?!?!I asked again and again and again.I asked her Supervisor, Renee Adorjan, no answer. Finally useless Barnes, after many messages, emails, vm's writes, "I'm your new worker."Oh no.I filled it out 4 times and AGAIN applied for the SER I was already approved for.Nothing.I started emailing her about this SER.No answer.Again and again. Finally a different Worker answered my emails - so Barnes is letting coworkers read her DHS Case emails from Clients.Said I had to fill out SER app yet again.I did.I uploaded all bills.Mortgage, sewer, taxes, scripts, Dr. visits, medical supplies, gas, electric, water, trash, homeowners insurance, my SSDI info, bank accounts.I also included her supposed Supervisor, Renee Adorjan.I emailed, "Are you waiting on anything else? Why haven't my bills been paid?"I sent both women shut-off notices from DTE and Consumers. For 2 weeks I got no response.Yes, for shut-off notices on a Deaf, Disabled woman. After that, I heard only from Adorjan, "I was on vacation. The system should have told you that."What system?Where is my Worker you assigned?I again, sent her the shut-off notices, over and over.I was never answered by DHS Supervisor, Renee Adorjan.I was never answered by useless DHS Worker, Mrs. Barnes.Late April, DTE SHUT OFF MY ELECTRICITY, WHICH SHUTS OFF MY WATER.Barnes hadn't done anything. She was now my Worker for 3 months.Called and called, Barnes, Adorjan, over and over. No answer, calls not returned.Called, man answered, hung up on me.Called again, finally got a different Worker, briefly explained, she checked, "Mrs. Barnes is here, I don't know why she's not answering her phone."Then she pulled my account, AFTER 3 MONTHS OF DHS EMPLOYEE, BARNES, BEING MY WORKER, THERE WAS NOTHING IN THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM ABOUT MY SER APP.!What?!?!Our taxes pay these fools.FIRE THEM.She transferred me to another supposed Supervisor, Ms. Burr. This is the middle of a Monday. These people do not have to work.Left her a message. In total, on 1 single day, I called DHS WASHTENAW OVER 30 TIMES, LEFT 10 VOICEMAILS, AND 5 ADDITIONAL EMAILS.No answer.DHS Washtenaw is happy to take all taxpayers' money, then do nothing, go on vacation, no supervision, no accountability.I then called DTE. Talked for an hour. They wanted some SER approval code that DHS would have, I don't have it.They could not see DHS Washtenaw sent them ANYTHING.I paid full amount due.A DEAF, DISABLED DHS CLIENT PAID THE ENTIRE ELECTRIC BILL WITH NO HELP AT ALL FROM DHS AFTER BEING APPROVED FOR THE SER PROGRAM.I called Barnes, Adorjan, and the general DHS Washtenaw line, left more messages, emails.-DHS Washtenaw paid nothing after I was approved for SER-DHS Washtenaw let my gas get shut off for almost a week in 0 degree weather-DHS Washtenaw let my electricity get shut off, which turned off my water, by doing nothing with my SER app.Now they need my ADDRESS-they have gas bills, DTE bills, mortgage, taxes, homeowners insurance, water, sewer, phone, medical, scripts, & where they mail their letters.
