University of Michigan Hospital: what do users think?
Nicholas Ingram: Best hospital in the country.
Dormarvelyn Henderson: If I could leave a negative zero I would. I went to this particular ER because U of M is supposed to be the best. WRONG. When I got to the back I explained to the nurse and the doctor that what was going on with me was not an allergic reaction and this doctor is gonna tell me that I my face was not swollen an to take Zyrtec and I would be fine. He dismissed me because I was a black woman looking for help. He Would not listen to me for anything and over talked me and my husband. I will never in my life go back to this place ever again!!!!
Adam Gardner: YET AGAIN they are rescheduling an appointment because it doesnt fit their needs putting me at over a year waiting for this stupid dr that probably is going to be as bad as the rest of them. I wouldnt send ANY of my family to this hospital. They are a joke. They dont listen to you and it takes years for them to do anything. They are probably now one of the worst hospitals in the state of michigan. Their surgeons are leaving in droves because they are forcing them to work weekends to do surgery. I have an inside friend that has told me as much. Unless you want to die DONT GO HERE! I will stop going here just as soon as I possibly can!
Kris Perez: My son was transferred from mid Michigan this am due to having a brainbleed from a fall out of tree plus other injury's was put in the burn/trama unit and everyone was super helpful and caring and went out of there way no matter what it was and even when I called they answered all my questions the trama unit is the best and so is the nurses and the Dr would recommend this hospital no matter what thank you to everyone of you
Marilyn Cooley: I have been trying to get into the portal that I was locked out of and have spent 10 15 hours on it many many phone calls to help take care of my brother which I have been taken care of since December 8th I have is medical Advocate and his dpoa and you have that paperwork and I have done everything the portal has asked at every time they ask for more more and more and more. I will knock it out on your portal again. If this matters to you my brother is Neil Cooley and he has a patient has been a patient there had his total tongue removed and I have been the only one that the portal has gone to and that locked out now they will not let me back in. I cannot tell you you're punishing 99% of innocent people when I am still the caregiver I do not have time for this stuff. I am totally disappointed in that department
M: What has happened to the U of M hospital system?! I was urged to go to the ER by my PCP due to concerning MRI and CT scan results. I reported that I fell in March, experienced sudden excruciating pain, progressive leg weakness, numbness in my feet and significant difficulty walking. The ER staff and doctor were excellent. I was admitted as a general patient While I had a full body MRI while in the ER and briefly saw a neurosurgeon, my neurologist would not allow me to consult with a neurologist after my MRU. . I had a full spinal MRI which clearly showed the damage in my spine. He refused to consult with my other U of M specialists. I was discharged without ever seeing a neurosurgeon. After discharge, my legs became progressively weaker, I couldn’t feel my feet & I became incontinent. I went to my local ER and was transferred by ambulance to another hospital where I had emergency spinal surgery. The neurosurgeon was shocked that U of M did nothing. We’re hoping that my nerve damage isn’t permanent, Something is really wrong with this system. There are some excellent providers and exceptional nurses but the system is broken. The nurses on my floor even encouraged me to file a licensing complaint . I am going to when I feel better. Edit: A few days after discharge I went to my local hospital and they did a CT scan. They sent me by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital where I had emergency surgery. The neurologist (Dr. Popli) at U of M had the same information. I’m so grateful for Beaumont and the neurosurgeon there. To say that my experience at U if M hospital was traumatizing is an understatement.
Dennis Curtis: First of all my 6th floor Nurses are to be Commended for being some of the Best Nurses in their field! Thanks Bill, Emily, and Cayla for your Unmatched Care and Bedside manner!! The only reason I deducted a star is because th ER experience was pretty horrific.. I was turned off with Eight, count that Eight Nurses and staff standing around Lollygagging for at least an hour at a time with a room packed full of sick patients. No where near having enough Doctors to handle the ER!!! I laid on a gerny in the hallway for countless hours suffering while waiting to see a doctor. So Sad for such a good hospital !!
Bryn Prough: Just had a seven day inpatient stay and I have to tell you from day one my care was coordinated so very well and resources for going home organized way better than I’ve ever had before. All of the CNAs and nurses deserve raises. I had such great care. A special shout out to Mavis and Ube for their amazing help with such great smiles and attitudes and wound care for their help. Also to inpatient rehab for the laundry availability too. The only change I would recommend is incorporating more non-dairy & plant-based alternatives for inpatient room service. Thank you to everyone there!
Lisa Thomas: I was admitted in 1968. Drs were great. Nurses were nasty to me. I was 8. Mean women. Many tested and biopsy's were preformed. Disease was discovered. Back in 1974, new condition. Tried to get medical records. Papers Came back that they have no record of my ever being there. I need to go back again. It would be helpful if they had my past medical history available to look back on.
Danny Harlem: Worst experiences with this place the emergency room everytime I come in they say there’s no beds and they make you wait for 12 hours + in the lobby no matter what even if your dying…
James Cetlinski: Customer service was horrible
Morgan Malinski: Just don't go here.
r7d sidi: Treatment is slow. You subject yourself to a teaching environment where you lay there and they teach. If you want a dr to diagnose you and fix. Go somewhere else! If you don’t mind being a school project, this is for you. While your there you will be constantly interrupted by sidewalk sales people who want you to take part in their surveys and experiment. Kind like pop up adds on the internet
Shay M: Communication is very poor. I understand working in a field and having to turn that sympathetic switch off to do your job, but the way some info is handled is completely unnecessary. Don’t call somebody and say serious test results if you can’t follow up with some info. At least you could’ve waited till Monday to relay that. Just left hanging and had to spend Easter in a cluster of the unknown. Just for a “yeah call Monday” which then follows to calling Monday, for nobody to still yet have any details to give.
Desiree Wright: My wife had major surgery last week. Everyone in the hospital was so friendly. Dr. Kuzon did an amazing job! Two nurses on the 4th floor deserve recognition. Frank and Morgan, they were gentle, warm, and kind. Answered all of my wife's questions and had the best chairside manner I have ever seen. We will never go to any other hospital again. U of M is our go to hospital!
Rickie Moser: Excellent Care. My husband had back surgery recently and the care he received at UMich Hospital was outstanding. The doctors and nurses were impressive not only in their knowledge and skill but also in the care and patience they showed us.
Amara Afzal: Excellent patient care and medical services , procedures and friendly medical staff as well as caring. Thanks to Dr. Nathan Lousman and all nurses for taking caring of me.
Ryan Thompson: Had a heart attack on the 4th of March. The doctors and the staff in the emergency room and ICU were fantastic. That being said I have had some serious questions that I have been trying to get some answers to since the 10th and I am still waiting for the staff to answer these questions on the 21st and have called several times and sent several messages through the portal.
Ranger Dan: My urologist fixed all of my urology problems in a matter of three weeks. I was amazed. The pediatric urologist my daughter used for my granddaughter did the same thing. All problems fixed in one visit. Wound care helped me resolve an issue that had caused infection after infection. These issues here were all moved to UofM after years of frustration at other medical facilities. I am thrilled that I made the move.
Brian O'Connor: Mr. Gran,I am writing directly to you as I deem you the highest man on the totem pole with regards to patient experience. I was not given an exit survey from the ICU in 5D of the main hospital so this is my exit survey. I did a little research on the internet and found that you are the Chief of Patient Experience. Well you are just the person that I want to inform you of my thoughts about your hospital. I hope that what I tell you will be fruitful for you in some fashion. On July 30th I was admitted into your hospital with a double fractured trachea that needed surgery. I had previously tried two hospitals in Toledo (before U of M) but they turned me away as they didn't have the means to repair me.On July 31st, Dr. Morrison and his surgery team operated on my trachea. Two titanium plates were put in. Apparently my accident was quite serious. But that's not the point. My story comes out of what happens afterwards...The ICU on 5D was quite incredible to me. I am afraid I don't remember many names of the nurses and the assistants, but that doesn't matter as much either. What does matter is that Dr Morrison saved my life and the ICU kept me alive and allowed me to go home. The team of people in the ICU that work for U of M are remarkable. I can't say enough about them. I pushed the nurses call button many, many times and they were there for me immediately. No questions asked. I always felt guilty about pushing that button. But I had to and they always came. They were spot on.I like to say I'm a good judge of people, and not one person from U of M that crossed my path did I not feel that they did not like their job. In fact the vibes that I got was that they loved their job. I found that to be unique and breathtaking at the same time. It made me smile. The positivity that these individuals portrayed was incredible. Even the doctors that made the rounds at 6:00 a.m. everyday they were the best. I spent a week in the ICU, and two and a half days in a regular room. No one missed a beat during my transfer or otherwise. I will miss everyone who took care of me. I know they were just doing their jobs but they really did more than that. They don't get told that, I'm sure at least not enough. If you can please let them know that.I have written this email to you because you are the Chief Patient Experience, and the buck stops with you. If you feel that this email should go to someone else please feel free to forward it.Thank you for a wonderful stay.Wishing you the best,Brian O'Connor
Paul Bowman: As a graduate from the University of Michigan, I am very disturbed at the quality of medical care my niece is receiving. I always thought of the hospital giving great care, but unfortunately the care has been pour at best.

University Hospital Neurology Department: what do users think?
Allison LaPrise: U of M makes it so hard to refer patients to them. Why not list the fax number on the website if you're going to require referral and documentation before an appointment can be made. Waste of time to sit on phone for a fax number.
b t: Amy Ferng, md, has rescheduled my appointment 4 times in the last 5 months. Today the office (Northville location) called me 10 minutes before the appointment to tell me. I ended up cancelling my appointment altogether. If she's too incompetent to keep an appointment, I don't trust her or U of M medicine with my health. Incompetence, that's the Michigan difference.Try the MIND clinic.
Parenting Coach: What a shame!! I was reffered to this department by my doctor. They had the referral but needed some additional documents, I called then twice between now and when my referral was sent in to see if they needed more info and to add some additional notes. After a month of them saying I will receive a call back with an appointment date, today when i called again, they need more apparently and don't know who caused the confusion. Is this a joke? I had heard great things but not sure how true they were...
Kori Beth: Can't even get a appointmen. First they don't even answer phone to help anyone but their own patient, was yelled at one time thay when I finally gave her name, she said couldn't find that patient. Told her I know been tellingyou I'm new. Then the don't even inform you properly what they need to schedule a appointment. First waited 48hr after a referral then need all your last visit Dr notes. When referral says why I need to be seen and when last visit was. You need a separate paper written out for 1st graders. Next gonna be asking number hairs on my head and shoe size when I was 7. Wasted my time. Removing my kids from their ped. Care. So done with u of m all together.
Mark Clark: Great Hospital again, had a second back surgery. Great Doctors, Surgeon, Icu nurses and floor nurses. Great Rehab dept to get you going again.
Bobby Hagerman2: My daughter in law is in icu and she is in the best hands possible. The staff is so attentive and nice and care so much for there patients. Would recommend to anyone
Nancy Caudle: What can I say.. if there's going to be a near fatal accident this is where you want your child or yourself to be taken!! Nothing but praises for the Dr's and nurses here ❤️
monica harris: The most awesome place to be
D. `: Do not go here. This place went from barely adequate to horrible. Appointments get changed on you all the time, Doctors come and go, it's more a place for training residents than helping patients. Latest doctor screwed up refilling my meds, gave me a big hassle. Takes them days to answer email or phone requests. Forget about getting into a specialised clinic, got a letter saying "full up, go away". This place absolutely sucks.
A: honestly don't come here. All clinic staff does not listen when you have a concern, the doctors think they know everything and won't take into consideration what the PT is telling them, even to the point that the Drs notes are wrong. They also love to schedule appointments without your knowledge and then if you can't make it to that appointment, you cant be seen again for another 3 months. I was referred to them by my rheumatologists and I've had nothing but issues since the beginning. Oh and make sure you do your research because once you see a Dr, even just ONE time, that Dr has to release YOU from HIS care, the PT is not allowed to see another Dr unless they release you which is total BS! If I, as a PT, do NOT want a Dr on my medical team then that is MY choice, not the Drs choice... especially if the PT only saw them once.
Steph Epps: I was referred here by my neurologist. I drove 2 hours to get here. Waited an hour for one appt. Then had another appointment right after the other. Had to wait 2 1/2 hrs for that one. The doctor I saw seemed to care more about his expensive shoes than he did me. He would look at me for one second then cross his arms and lean back against the table and look at his shoes. Was not impressed. I was diagnosed with CNVS a few years ago. This doctor sounded like he was just going to refer me to yet another doctor. So mad I cried. Never really answered any of my questions. Will never come here again.
Deborah Santodonato: I've been going to the MS Clinic for 16+ years now. In all those years I have waited for a MS Clinic with designated PT, SW, Dieticians, etc. It has not happened. I've had at least 5 neurologist over the years. They come and go. My last visit will probably be my last. I seen a new neurologist who talked to me about new treatment options for secondary progressive ms only to conclude there was little data to support it. Talked about my meds, asked me if I had any concerns. After we talked about them he gave me the slip to take to check out. He never even examined me. No neuro checks, nothing. Really disappointed. I've continued to go to get my meds renewed. I'd recommend going elsewhere.
Joslynn Mroz: Initially I was impressed by U of M's Neurology dept. My daughter's first visit was great - they were thorough w/ her exam and talked to us about her MRIs and progression of disease. But now, I am frustrated to watch my daughter be treated this way. The wait time for an appointment generally is 6 months whenever you contact them with new symptoms, go weeks without a response through the online portal (that they push their patients to use), and when we do get in to see the doctor, we wait sometimes for hours in the lobby past the appointment time. One time a nurse took us back and handled 90% of the appointment bc the neurologist didn't have time to see her - after waiting more than 6 months for this appointment! The last 3 times, the neurologist's pager kept going off while we were discussing treatment options. We hardly got to speak w/ her because of the disruption. I wanted to cry - feeling helpless that no one is taking her condition seriously. I get this impression that their preventative treatment is poor, and she won't be given the proper attention until the disease has progressed and the options are slim. I think they have too many patients for their staff. The patients here need extra care and they cannot provide it. Go somewhere else if you are considering U of M or get the earliest appointment time if possible
Devil Dog: Inexperienced more focused on the learning students then the patient, classic come back in 6 months for another review, no treatment or diagnosis given. Dr. Spearman arrogant with a horrible atitude, don't waste your time. Get a Beamont (actually) Doctor, not a Teacher.Waste of time
Denise Bickel: I was informed that coming in for a recheck would be "a waste of everyone's time" by the scheduling staff. That's stellar , patient centered medicine there. I've lost 20 lbs unintentionally, can no longer walk up stairs, cant carry things in my arms, and have had to quit most of my favorite activities. I'm 43. But totally wasting their time to want medical care.
Daisy Kelley: They can't keep appointment times to save their own lives. Told us to be here 15 minutes early (1045 for 11) and made us wait an hour (it's 12 and still haven't been seen) after the original time because of someone else's issues. Make the people who can't be on time wait not the people who follow directions. Plus, you can't reschedule, unless you need your appointment moved out 5 months! I thought U of M hospital was suppose to be one of the best? Why can't THEY ever be on time when WE are expected to be early? This has happened too many times to count at this hospital not just this specific department. Don't make plans after your appointment, you won't make them.
Sidnee Sayers: Go here at your own risk. Horrible office staff. I give it 2 stars because it will take you weeks and millions of phone calls to get any paperwork/medical IMPORTANT forms filled out. I was suppose to return to work a week with forms filled out and a half ago and am going absolutely nowhere. For being "the top" in the nation, should NOT be this unprofessional and this whole experience has caused me more seizures and stress that I CANNOT have for my health. I know many patients who are going through this same problem. I'm pretty sure working at a neurology office filling out forms is nothing new.
Truth Bomb: I have come here since I was 5 for seziures. They were out of control. What I have is inoperable, but surgeon, DR.SAGAR, implanted a VNS "Vagus Nerve Stimulater" it has decreased my seizures "DRAMATICALLY"! Thank you! I also see Nurse Practitioner "GAIL FROMES" She is WONDERFUL! UofM is the ONLY hospital I trust!
