Jonah Lee: Mike does a great job of keeping it real and also keeping things organized. His low pressure yet accountable style is exactly what I needed to put some ownership on my health while still getting professional expert guidance. COVAL fitness allowed me to do things on my timetable with my busy "new-parent schedule" and his instruction and guidance is detailed without being overwhelming. If you are on the fence, try it! You aren't paying for just a program, you are paying for a kickstart in the right direction, I highly recommend and will continue to recommend Mike and his philosophies, keep up the great work brother

When we started, he provided a thorough initial assessment and established unique workout plans to meet our individual needs. Mike’s high expectations and “up close and personal” approach are reflected in his policy of no more than three clients at a time per trainer. We appreciate that our coaches provide frequent feedback to maximize our efforts. Being in an older age group, our exercise plans have improved our overall health and helped us increase our physical stamina. Donald Levitt: I started at COVAL when I was 64 years old. I'm now 66 -- and more fit than I've been in 30 years. It's not that I wasn't previously working out -- I was -- regularly. But the workouts and coaching at COVAL are just more effective. I started with the "Kickstart Program" to see if I would like it -- and have never looked back. I used to work out three times per week. Now I go to COVAL two times per week -- and am getting much better results in much less time. It's just a better use of time -- and well worth the investment.

Karen Braxton: I discovered Coval because my daughter trains with them for basketball. Faced with significant weight gain and health issues, I had no choice but to make some changes but I was completely lost on how to do it. I met with the owner, Mike Coval, and he started me on a workout regimen. Once I accomplished some goals in that area, I participated in a challenge and changed the way I ate. Since joining and becoming consistent with my workouts and my healthy lifestyle, I have lost 36 pounds; I am continuing on my journey to more weight loss and creating a healthier me. Nick Laten: I only have wonderful things to say about Coval Fitness. Before I came to Coval I was frequently injured, necessitating several rounds of physical therapy. I was also having to schedule weekly or biweekly massage sessions to stay on top of alignment issues to prevent further injury. I had to stop my yoga/pilates practice because it was only worsening my alignment issues and a prior tenure at another gym did little to help. I am happy to report that I haven't been to physical therapy since I started at Coval approximately 9 months ago and no longer have the need for maintenance massage work. I love my workout at Coval. The workouts are personalized and based on where you are at and what you need. I can't say enough good things about the coaches at Coval. All of them are excellent. They do an amazing job putting together the workout plans and coaching us through them. They are incredibly positive, supportive and knowledgeable. It's definitely my new happy place to go to. If you are hesitant at all to check them all, just give it a shot. You have nothing to lose and potentially so much to gain. Financially this is a win for me. There is obviously a cost associated with the incredible support we receive at Coval, but for me it's actually resulted in a cost savings. Dan Duong: I joined Coval Fitness after reaching a self learning plateau with my workouts. Youtube and tips from friends was not cutting it. Biggest issues and worry was learning bad form without a good foundation.At first I was super concerned about pricing since I had just finished undergrad figuring out how the whole budgeting thing works. Trust me I was like what did I sign up for. However the 21 day kick start program gave me a great example of what to expect from Coval. You will be helped and there will always be someone there willing to help. Plus there is a diverse group of members and very little gym egos. Everyone is there to reach a goal, get better, etc.Think of this as an investment to your health and your future self. Also, Mike is pretty awesome and will try his best to meet your budget needs.I am a few months in into to my 12 months program at Coval. All of my concerns and issues were alleviated. Everything builds up and does not become monotonous. You will be challenged to become the best you. You will be taught proper form and how to be safe. You control how challenging the programs are based on how you feel. You will be given advice and motivation.The environment at the gym has really pushed me to be at my fittest form and helped make fitness one of my top hobbies.
Michael Gordon: I've been at Coval for 4-5 years. I love it. I am in my 60s and it makes me feel like I'm in my 30s. The workouts are tailored for ME (and would be tailored for you, too). No matter your aches, pains, or limitations -- and believe me, I've got some -- this place will make you stronger, fitter, and able to take on the world. Starting with Mike, the coaches are fantastic. I've been to other gyms with other trainers -- Coval is on a different level -- in terms of the attention you get, the attn to every detail, the ability to get any and every question or concern addressed. Drew Zuniga: I can't say enough about Coval Fitness! I had a sport injury back in December 2018 that resulted in surgery and I was looking to get back into shape when I joined Coval. I was frustrated with my lack of mobility and energy after surgery and talked with Mike about creating a plan to get me back active. He centered a workout that focused on the rehabilitation I was already receiving through physical therapy. I have regained my motivation, mobility, and strength in my injured area and am considering going back to playing sports! At 35 I'm hesitant, but know that I wouldn't even be considering playing if it weren't for Coval. If you're considering trying Coval Fitness, do yourself a favor and go for it! There are trials and challenges available to get you started. I believe I get more out of the gym than I pay. Knowing that I have 1-3 trainers at any given time to check my form is a relief. The last thing I want to do is regress and re-injure myself.

Stephanie Shin: I joined COVAL after numerous seasons of various workouts—BBG, Blogilates, running, OTF, yoga, pilates, spin, etc. None were bad, but I always found myself falling off the train after awhile. I realized that even in a class setting, it can be hard to get personalized guidance when there is only one instructor. I would do the moves that I knew confidently, but the ones that were difficult I would either skip over or not do them well, & that was just my loss (physically & financially).All of this made me a bit wary of joining yet another gym, but based on COVAL's stellar reviews I had to give it a try. I submitted an interest form via the website on a Sunday & within 10 minutes had an email from Mike (the owner). Mildly impressed but thinking it was probably automated, I responded with some questions & received a definitely non-automated reply less than an hour later! Now I was surely impressed with the level of attentiveness, attention to detail, & communication that I had not experienced before.Going to a gym was intimidating for me bc I felt like anyone could tell I had no idea what I was doing in a room full of weights & contraptions. But Mike & his staff made me feel comfortable & welcome, & helped me so I wasn't doing it alone. Even trainers I hadn't trained with knew my name & said hi. I agreed to the trial period hoping to not like it too much initially because of the price, but quickly found myself looking forward to the next session each time bc I just felt better. I also appreciate the many time options for busy people with demanding schedules. Just wish there were more 5:30 am spots ;)Before COVAL, I was afraid of weightlifting because I didn't want to look bulky/scary, so I stuck to 5 lb weights. But all the coaches are knowledgeable & helped me understand that that isn't the case. With the help of my coaches Thomas, Anmar, & Mike, I have progressed more in a short time than I thought I could. I started about 6 weeks before a trip to Zion & was able to summit Angels Landing without much difficulty (which was big for me—I was expecting to only get to Scout Lookout)! My running pace has also improved just from the strength training alone, & I'm hoping it continues to as I try to reach my sub-2 half goal sometime next year. I just feel stronger all around.Each person has a program personalized to circumstance, range of motion, goals, & needs. There are 2-3 people training with your coach in a session, & it's a good balance of independence & attention. They are quick to ensure correct form to prevent injuries. The training program changes every 4 weeks so you don't feel like you're doing the same thing repeatedly, & even within a given training program, the reps/sets will change so there is still some variation. You also get an accountability coach who will check in with you about your goals in and out of the gym. The trainers are lighthearted & funny, which is great when the workout doesn't feel as light :)After a long day of work, it is hard to feel motivated to stay active. I used to go home & pass out on the couch for 2-3 hours. Despite being vegetarian & generally making healthy choices, I literally had no energy beyond making it through a work day every day. But after joining COVAL, I somehow have more energy & am generally happier, more productive, & less stressed. Mike is a very busy man, but is always responsive & takes time to patiently/kindly answer my questions. COVAL isn't just a gym... it is a family that will truly change your life! So I got my boss to join too :)One last thing—I feel like Jill doesn't get enough credit in these reviews, but she is behind the scenes making sure everything is running smoothly. Her response time is quick, & she is kind, helpful, efficient, thorough, & patient. I can always count on Jill to have my COVAL life together. Thank you Jill!Not sure what more you can ask for. David Mazzotta: I've been going to Coval for almost a year with a goal of increasing strength and fighting age-related muscle degradation, and it's been a terrific experience. The process starts with an initial assessment, which is free and easy. It's not a "test" workout, it's an evaluation of mobility and any movement limitations you might have. After that you'll have a discussion about your goals and options. In my experience there was absolutely no hard sell or pressure to sign up.The format is semi-private training. To be clear, you are not being led through any sort of small group workout. Your workout is always personalized. You're just sharing a coach with two other three others. In practice this works well because the different cadences at which people work allows the coach set up equipment and critique form as effectively as a one-on-one session. Since the coaches have ongoing sessions running through the day, it allows you some flexibility in arrival/departure time -- if you are early or late for your scheduled appointment it doesn't pose a problem and you won't end up missing a portion of your workout.Another benefit is that you can work with any coach on staff which provides you with a broader variety of insights and input into your training. All the coaches are skilled professionals who are good communicators and dedicated to their craft. The programs are three sessions per week of varying routines and you repeat those three sessions for four weeks. Once you complete a program, you get a new three-per-week program for the next four weeks based on your progress. This is a good balance as you get time to get comfortable and progress in a workout, but you don't do it long enough to get bored.Good workout habits are encouraged. You are given a comprehensive warm up routine (~15 mins) that you complete before *every* workout. Working at a steady pace the typical workout will be ~45 minutes. Breathing and core engagement are emphasized. The common exercise variations are selected to provide the benefit in strength development but with reduced risk of injury (ex. front and hand-assisted hatfield squats over back squats, trap bar deadlift over barbell deadlift). In the year I have been there I have made improvements in strength and body comp while never feeling at risk for injury. Also, as a client you have full access to the facilities to workout on your own if you wish.I highly recommend you take a look at Coval if you are looking for a personalized fitness solution.

Katherine Lawrence: I've been working out with Better Living since 2003 because I knew I couldn't motivate myself to do consistent exercise on my own. Mark is a terrific motivator, and he keeps workouts interesting by changing the exercises each week (which also strengthens different parts of a muscle group). Now that he's grown his team, he has a crew of friendly and upbeat trainers. I've also enjoyed Mark expertise as a nutritionist, and I participate in the online fitness classes every week. (They're like a semi-personal training session in your own living room.) I particularly appreciate the team's expertise with skeletal alignment. It makes such a difference being able to diagnose when my hips are out of whack and then adjust them.Better Living has made all the difference for my health and well being as I've aged, had a child (now a teen), and worked through the aches and pains that come with everyday life, aging, and sedentary work.

Annemarie Palincsar: Dedrick is an outstanding addition to Better Living Fitness. I will start by noting how knowledgable he is about the musculoskeletal system; he explains the benefits of each activity and why it matters that the activity is done in a particular way. I learn so much from each session that I bring to my everyday activity. I also greatly appreciate how he pushes me, but also listens carefully and makes adjustments as they are called for (in terms of, for example, amount of weight or positioning of my body). I feel very safe while working out with him. Finally, he has a wonderful attitude about his work; he genuinely seems to enjoy what he does, which makes the sessions both rewarding and enjoyable!

Tom Phillips: Getting off the floor and other seemingly remedial tasks were getting hard to do. (Especially with a bad knee.) Brittany Hammond: We are advantage junkies!! This place makes working out fun. The value is insane. Having a professional correct your form and hand feed you a functional, whole body workout is invaluable. I no longer have shoulder pain which has plagued me for years. John challenges me on the bench press which used to terrify me. Jaiden comes up with the funnest and toughest circuits. Evan always gives the most useful feedback. The value of having the strength in and of itself is high, but the unlimited circuits are sooo great. I only wish I had more time in my day to come more often!
Dwan Gerido: I have been working out at Advantage Strength for about 8 months…I came to Advantage with chronic lower back pain, and knees so bad that walking up/down the stairs was an ordeal. Since I began at Advantage, the back pain has gone away, and going up and down the stairs is an afterthought. I’m very happy to say that I did it!Working with the Advantage trainers has been excellent—the programs they design are challenging but not discouraging, and they listen to feedback and figure out what modifications might be necessary for your body on that day. With a maximum of six people training at any time, the gym never gets too loud and the coaches can circulate to work with each client several times during the session. It's a friendly, laid-back place to work out. Even on the days when I don't feel at the top of my game, I always leave glad I took the time to show up!

The culture here is top-notch, the staff are thoroughly supportive, motivating, generous, and kind.It was great to see progress and be significantly stronger in everyday movements, while also learning every time I went in. Lindsey Johnson: Mandy was my trainer. I struggle with social anxiety and body image but Mandy made me feel welcomed and cared for. Mandy was so involved in my session it was as if my personal goals became her own. It was as if she personally wanted to see me succeed. David Stanton: I've worked with Erin and Benton and they are extreme professionals and masters of personal training. This is a great business and they assess you well and start where you want to start - that is called active listening and knowing how to treat a customer. I even had them speak to my Physical Therapist who I have been working with to address tendonitis in my achilles. Benton has been incredibly surgical in helping me stabilize my balance, strengthen my core, and evolve my athleticism for my sport of tennis. The target audience for the gym used to be the younger, more Crossfit-oriented athlete, but they have expanded to include all types of athletes, so it's truly a gym for everyone. For example, in addition to me, my high school brother that's recovering from an ACL injury exercises at BLF, and my 59 year-old mother does private training with Ryan and adores her weekly session. I'm still working on convincing my dad to go, too!Dan and Ryan, the owners, are absolutely fantastic - if you can find time with them for a personal session, do it - and the other trainers are fantastic coaches and can provide any modifications you need.1000% recommend working out at this gym!

Laurie Bossory Goike: Have been working out at thrive for almost a year with Alexus. Love how she pushes me to be a better stronger version of myself.
Shayan Jalili: Exceptional personal training and excellent environment. Josie is a great trainer, professional, patient, and knowledgeable. .She is very focused. She gives me different exercises every time and ensures I do every exercise correctly and with a good posture. It has been a significant transformation for me. From getting dizzy and nauseous after 15 mins the first few weeks, I can now finish my workout without any problem; I feel much healthier and stronger. She also gave me some exercises to do at home, which helped me to ease the neck and shoulder pain I developed by working 10+ with computers. Highly recommend Thrive and highly recommend Josie.

She taught me so much about stretching, workouts and nutrition. She made it exciting with changing the workouts up so you are always doing something different. I will also add in that Amir is just as awesome! They always greet you when you walk in the door and just make you feel like family while you are there. My experience for the last nine months has been amazing. I have lost 31lbs and gained muscle. But the best part is I gained confidence in myself and to the new life style of being healthy. Erin Galinac: Training with Alexus and Thrive has been life-changing! I have never liked weight training or going to the gym but Alexus and Amir have changed that. I love the emphasis they put on nutrition and eating the thrive. And they are not a one-size-fits-all workout. I broke my ankle in July and had to have complete ankle reconstruction. Alexus worked with me to continue workouts while in a walking boot and continues to help me recover my strength as I heal. Kathleen Marinan: Excellent staff, clean space, and ample equipment. My partner and I trained here for several months before we moved and we will miss the expertise and camaraderie greatly. Special thanks to trainers Ben and Bella for all of their preparation to have workouts ready for us when we arrived (and motivation to get through them!) and Luci for making sure our appointments were scheduled with absolutely zero surprise billing. Fantastic experience all around - highly, highly recommend.

She creates memorable experiences that connect people of all ages and abilities through play, games, and movement – leading to stronger teams and improved self-confidence for participants.Over the last 10 years, I have invited Nikkie to lead sessions at 4 international conferences, as well as other large scale public events and smaller community activations. She has designed team building activities, seminars, and workshops for groups as small as 10 and upwards of 50, thoughtfully taking into consideration the different physical abilities of each participant and unique culture and strategic needs of each group. As the event organizer, I collect survey feedback about every workshop and find that Nikkie’s sessions always bring in 5-star ratings and accolades.Above all, she knows how to get people moving, laughing, and connecting deeply through her programs. Kyle Banas: I've gone to Coach Me Fit for several years and I really enjoy it there. The space is large, there is a variety of equipment, and it's clean and well maintained. Appointments are scheduled in a way that there are never too many people there, so you don't feel crowded or like you need to wait to use equipment. The staff are great. I have worked with a few different trainers at Coach Me Fit - they accommodate my schedule and work with me to develop a routine - not just while I'm there, but what I should be doing for diet and exercise while I'm not there, too.
