West Side Book Shop: what do users think?
Phynique Queen: Quaint bookstore with historical books maps and typewriters. Neat atmosphere
Marcelo Cassani: First I have to say that this place is not 5 stars, it is 6 or more!I do not write reviews so often, I have been in plenty of bookstores but none reached to my heart as this one. The three rooms and an aisle plenty of curated books and photographs provide an eclectic mix of curated antiquarian and contemporary genere. If you are looking for some used and/or rare books then this is your must go place.
Bruno: Might be the best bookstore I’ve ever been to.
Fran (Gooble): Oh, the owner was just so kind. And I had a lovely conversation with someone else there about my heritage which was super fun to delve into. Lots of great books and they're labeled by genre, historical events, countries, etc. Just lovely all around, will definitely come back.
Jeffrey Mays: Amazing bookstore. So many classic hardbacks. There is another whole bookstore in the basement. Ask for a tour!
servando vazquez: Para los amantes de los libros, aquí puedes encontrar de todo.
Kathy Yu: A cute little old shop with a very friendly owner. Loved the old library vibe of the place and how every nook and cranny is filled with books.
Betsy Dyke: Great old book shop where I wondered if I might run across a first addition. Yeah, it’s THAT kind of book shop. Must visit
Nick Gracilla: An eclectic mix of curated books across antiquarian, classic, and contemporary genere, with a surprise gallery of high quality, rare portrait prints in the back. A delight for the book lover, not to be missed.
The Strand Magazine: Fantastic bookstore. Great books and a vibe that feels like a dickens novels!
nishat tasnim: True gems! Very good bookshop.
Lauren: The layout is much more customer friendly than many other book stores. The kind gentleman working told my friend and I stories about The Summer of Love in San Francisco. Super neat place.
Lois Meppelink: Impressive collection
Marianne Kordas: Fun shop to explore for the book lover, absolutely crammed and kinda messy, but in a good way. Still maintains an organization system. Boyfriend bought a collectors set of Lincoln biographies he’s always wanted. Owner was very helpful.Only downside is that this shop is not ADA friendly. There are piles of books on the floor spilling into the narrow aisles as well as two stories of stuffed shelves. Not sure how they keep the fire inspector happy. But otherwise a bibliophile’s paradise!
Chef John: Jay, the owner, is book affectionate and very knowledgeable of classic and rare books. He buys/resells books at West Side Book Shop on West Liberty St. in downtown Ann Arbor.Located half block west of Starbucks coffee near The Ann Arbor Art Center Galleries and Studios. Drop in if you love books.
Heidi Fods: A beautiful little shop stacked floor to ceiling with every kind of book. I nearly took home a two volume set of the Tale of Genji, but restrained myself only because I don't have room for any new books. I would love to visit here again!
Sean Poole: Such a special place. If you love books, you should budget some time to wander the stacks at West Side.
Natalie Rohane: They have a decent graphic novel selection.
Dana Matson: A really cool bookstore that has a vast collection of books with varying ages and topics. It has something for everyone! Prices are very reasonable too, and owner is very sweet. Overall an awesome place to explore.
William Dobrowolski: Such an interesting place to explore for books. Richard was delightful to talk to.
james neuenschwander: Wonderful little bookstore. Broad selection and some very nice items as well.

Motte & Bailey Booksellers: what do users think?
* DL: Lovely little bookstore, friendly owner. Great variety and easy to find something youre interested in.
Deb Bohn: We’ve had a wonderful time selling our books to Gene’s store. He’s fair and knows his books.
Taz Earls: Condescending and complete maskholes
Yogi Paliwal: Fantastic book store with one of the finest curation of posters, books and fine prints. Owner has been here for 16 years and everything is placed to perfection. If you like bookstores stop in and admire a lovely collection of goods.
Peter Carroll: Wonderful bookstore. Great selections.
Parisa: A beautiful shop! I’ve found really nice things there. I’ve found everything from classics (a beautiful vintage hardcover of my favorite book - Crime and Punishment) to newer fun cookbook finds! All in great quality.
Patrick Carrico: Got me a signed Mr. Rogers script. Yeah boi.
Faatimah Raisa: Great collection of books, especially history related items! Found some great books that I'd been looking all over for. The owner was very friendly and helpful
Debra Underwood: This small shop is in a great location & has a large variety of books for every reader! If Gene doesn't have what you're looking for he will do research & find it for you. He also sells online.
r vix: This is a great used book store. The owner keeps a fresh selection and is very good at getting unusual and interesting titles. I can spend hours looking through his stacks. Prices are very reasonable and the owner is willing to make suggestions and help you find books to match your interests. The world history and US history sections are very well stocked and I have found some real treasures here over the years. Parking is a bit of an issue, especially on days when the Farmers Market is open. If you are in the Kerry Town area of Ann Arbor, by all means take the time to check out this great shop.
Alexander Jones: I've been going to this bookstore for years, where you will find more of the collectibles and rarities instead of the bigger and mass published books. The owner is a fantastic guy to talk to, and his years of experience always leads to great conversations and recommendations for new books to enjoy.
vadermask mass//retaliation: I love this bookstore! Gene the owner is the most knowledgeable & helpful bookworm I know! He has an awesome selection of QUALITY books! No junk, only the best reading material. Friendly owner, pleasant atmosphere, a real winner!!
Peter Dale: Quality books. Integrity when purchasing.
Alanna Woolley: This is a fun, welcoming, used book store with excellent service and a good selection of poetry.
Henry Dowser: This bookstore wasn't around when I was at UM, but it's great. I go there, when I'm in Ann Arbor. I dropped over $50 last time I went- I have no idea how they get great books, however they do. It was a joy to visit. I love the hardcopy experience of bookstores, yes I go to Amazon, however I love hardcopy.
Will Juntunen: On the job since 1996, Motte & Bailey Bookstore has shelves and shelves of clean, fragrant and well written books for you to browse and buy.
Christine Comer: Great finds!
lillian russell: This is a wonderful little bookstore with a good selection of reasonably priced fantasy/scifi. I never leave empty handed, but like other reviewers I have to agree that what makes this my favorite bookstore is the owner and his wife. They are excellent conversationalists, very laid back, and always have great book recommendations.
Claire I Milldrum: This is the place to buy Loeb Classics. The staff is super helpful and knowledgeable. Check out their culinary section. It's impressive.
V Figueroa: I was looking for classic children's book, and they had it- good inventory. The staff seemed well-read and book historians. Knowledgeable and pleasant, but efficient. They made my browsing, reading and buying experience the best I've had at a bookstore in a while. Lots of treasures, some a few centuries old. Please everyone - support your independent bookstores often. They make a community complete.

Garrett Scott Bookseller: what do users think?
Kenneth Mallory: I came to Garrett Scott, Bookseller in search of something; but more accurately I came in search of the 𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 of something. Interestingly enough within these walls shunted off from the outside world by a door that does all but ask you to come in is something no single man can hold. The NUC catalog. It's 754 green buckram bound volumes. It's heavy, it's big, but you know who has the wherewithal to house and deftly use such a large bibliographic tool such as this? The establishment located right here. I've seen Garret operate in all manner of commerce involving old paper bound upany way you can imagine and he always comes out on top. I can only imagine the surprise and hopefully joy of the most experienced librarian who relying on their vast institutional knowledge find out that no, they actually don't have the 1867 Rocky Bar, Idaho printing of the "Beauties of Josiah grim, Seer of Grist" because the man went straight into the mouth of th e green monster and found the truth. Garrett's is a wormhole. I don't know where it goes, and honestly I don't want to find out as I've got things to do, but if you've got a sense of adventure that might involve obscure Midwestern communal societies and/ or baseball, this might be the place for you.

Dawn Treader Book Shop: what do users think?
David Rouse: So if you are looking for that old book or a signed book or a first edition, this is the place to visit! The staff here are so friendly and accommodating. They are willing to help answer any questions you may have about books like how to tell if something is a first edition or if it is worth anything. And they are passionate about books! This is one of those stores where when you first walk in, the smell of old books just hits you. You know, the scent of ancient leather, aged paper, and older printer ink. The smells that take you back to the days when libraries were for reading and learning. And then as you weave your way through the maze of shelves and stacks of books you know the hunt is ON! There are markers to give you a general idea of what you are looking for but the joy is in the search. And the reward is when you find that one, last, OOP novel that you have been searching for your ENTIRE life for and you found it!!! Plus, the price is exactly what you want to pay! The rush! The thrill! It is better than an amusement park!If you are in Ann Arbor and you are looking for someplace to find a book - to read or collect or just to say "I own that!" - this is the place to go. And if you don't see it, just ask one of the staff. You may never know, they may have exactly what you are looking for without even knowing that was what you wanted. 😏
John Klavanian: Always an amazing experience.
Clare Higgins: I have such fond memories of this place and was overjoyed to see it survived the pandemic. Will make a point to shop here when I’m in town. Hope it stays for a long long time. :)
Kari Hofmann: Lovely bookstore! It is like walking into a nutty professors office as you wind through the aisles, discovering treasure after treasure with each turn.
Destiny Lewis: Ann Arbor's best used bookstore. It's only downfall is the same for all of Ann Arbor's stores and restaurants, being overpriced due to out of control and underegulated landlords. They can pretty much price anything as whatever they want. Pushing out citizens who were born and raised in this city.
ichriou: love the selection of books!
The Victorian Needle: This place has so many books!
Steve Wayne: Fun used bookstore! Great selection and good prices! I enjoy the selection of early edition sci-fi classics. Conveniently located.
Samuel Zisk: An absolute maze of a bookstore. Don’t expect to go in looking for anything specific and find it. I loved the cathedral-like room of old pulp sci fi novels.
Karen Blaisdell: Very disheveled
Mary chelone: I've been going here for 30 years or so, so it's magical to me. Something about the layout and design makes me feel like I could open a door to Narnia or Fillory.
JB: I can call requesting a random book and they’re always super helpful and kind checking to see if they might have it.
Laura Smith: A family-owned neighborhood staple! I always find the most eclectic titles here and they are my go-to for gifting old classics!
Kimberly Montgomery: Love this place! I could spend hours here...so many books on so many subjects!
Sarah Jane Uldricks: Great for textbooks and random things. Foreign languages section has an amazing array. Buy back is lovely. I don't think I've ever seen anything in there in any kind of order other than what genre/focus the book is, so you have to really search for things and the sheer amount of books there can make that a task, but you are very likely to find what you want.
Sandra Renee: Great selection. Helpful staff.
Dempsey Dimedio: Thoughtful collection of well priced books! 10/10 will be back for more.
Xiao Meow: A good collections of books. I found some interesting and rare books. Can spend the whole afternoon here.
Carolina Rivera: So many books to pick from!
Gretchen Turner: Exceptional inventory, exceptional owner. I had the privilege of meeting and chatting with Africa (the owner) and they couldn't have been more friendly and a delight to connect with. I am a newly published author and I'm honored for my book to share the shelves with the countless masterpieces gracing this world-class gem of a local book shop!
Allen Kinzalow: Fantastic used book shop! Great book organization and really cool decor. They had a fun surprise book pack for $15 with 3 books. Friendly and knowledgeable staff too!
