Rheumatology U of M: what do users think?
Lauren Macuga: **COST ME $1900 FOR ONE HOUR** I went here to have a check up on my RA symptoms. I had been doing well but wanted to check my blood panels. I saw the doctor, had a blood draw and had x-rays of my hands to make sure there were no boney changes.I was seen for 30 minutes total and I just received an invoice for $1,900, I will never be returning. I have never seen so many different blood panels ran ion my life, normally a blood panel costs me $200 WITHOUT MY DEDUCTIBLE BEING MET.She ordered 20 different labs costing me $50-$159 EACH. This was completely unnecessary.
Bess Byrum: I already know this is a really bad team of doctors etc... I have been trying to see them for over a year now and they cancel on me twice and say we have nothing open until 4 months later.Luckily I found another Rheumatologist and they will see me in 3 weeks.
Deidree Mathis: Have gone to this Rheumatology Clinic for 30 years and they have kept me healthy and mobile.
val moore: Dr Moore is my rheumatologist and I do not like her team the Dr in charge of her is a b. They never gave me pain meds ever. They only I’m sure give it to a certain race. There’s a lot of things these people took me through and I’m feed up. I been having tons of pain no one check on me. Gave me and meds my iron low no one cares. From day one they have shoved all kinds of lupus meds down my throat now I can get off. I’m still in soooo much pain after all my meds. Nothing works. When I went to regular dr they gave me a some amount of pain meds which help me at least get out of bed. I can’t take Motrin and nothing works I’m in so much pain I crawl to toilet and cry I tell them this but they don’t care. They controlled my body told me when I can have a baby and I can’t they control everything on my body. I’m so unhappy. The pain is so much I cry every day and night. I think if I was a different color they might help me more. . I was depressed because of this because they won’t help me. I got on all this meds nothing works I told her I’ll get on for her because I really liked her. Her team is rude and they just don’t like me I need a dr to help me in suggestions I need to go back to work help me
lynn wolf: I have been seeing Dr. McCune for almost 30 years; he diagnosed my lupus. I trust him with all aspects of my health. He has always treated me as if I were his only patient. He has worked with my other doctors to assist with other medical concerns. I have never had a bad experience at the clinic.
April Marie Tucker: I went to U of M Rheumatology & after 6 months of my ex Dr Amber Young promising she'd write me a prescription for medicine. She also never wrote any after visit notes would say she'd refer me to other specialists tests etc then forget. My condition continued to decline so I decided to contact u of m to let them know. I asked to switch Rheumatologists. They wouldn't let me & this Rheumatologist retaliated on me. She wrote the longest after visit summary I'd seen in my life filled with lies. Things that shouldn't even be in an after visit summary like I have switched Rheumatologists many times & primary care drs making it look like I'm Dr shopping. When I had just moved from Michigan & my Rheumatologist in Michigan referred me to U of M she new that. My Rheumatologist before that was also my primary care Dr & I changed insurance so I had to change primary care drs.She put that I don't have raynauds when I gave her my Vascular disease records that had all my tests. She even had in there how my feet turn purple at times & red hello that's Raynauds. I highly recommend going to Beaumont or somewhere else because U of M doesn't care how their drs treat their patients when I let them know she did this they didn't care.
Jett Vanschoten: the docters and nurses are so nice
Saba Niaz: Dr Nada Abdul Aziz is my mom's rheumatologist for over 3 years and has to be one of the best doctors I've experienced so far. From her diagnosis to the treatment, follow up and excellent staff, I have really no words to describe how seamless the whole process has been always! I actually wanted to leave her a review myself because she earned it.
gary paelicke: Despite a referral and very painful osteoarthritis in both thumbs, they won’t see me. I was told they’re too busy, everyone wants to see U of M. So I have to go outside the system to IHA.
Andrea: I started having health issues around 2012. In 2014 I was in and out of doctors offices trying to figure out what was wrong with my body. I was referred to U of M. After many blood test, ultrasounds MRI's, and CT scans I was diagnosed with Undifferentiated Autoimmune Disease and Fibromyalgia. I was put on plaquenil and flexerol. When my symptoms were not relieved and my health continued to get worse. I was turned away by the head of the rheumatology department who decided that despite my test I had "no rheumatological reason to be there and kicked me out of the rheumatology clinic. A few month later I had a flare and was diagnosed with SLE and RA. I do not have fibromyalgia and the time it took to be properly diagnosed was paid for in my bodies tissue damage. Last night I had no choice but to go to U of M ER. Where I learned my liver enzyme count that was already moderately high had gone even higher, my pancreas is inflamed and my urinary tract is also inflamed and to be clear that is only what they tested. No microorganisms were found to be at cause for anything no abnormal growth, ect. I was sent home and told to continue antibiotics for a UTI that I do not have. I had to argue with the attending physician that this all could be part of a lupus flare. Who decided that because she does not understand lupus or me as a patient to send me on my way. Now I am sitting at home untreated and my lupus out of control. My chemo and steroids not working. So while my organ gain new scar tissue and new irreversible damage that doctor still gets a paycheck for not doing her job. The rheumatologist that originally kicked me out of the clinic caused me even more time and irreversible damage due to his incompetence. Shame on you University of Michigan your nothing more then a money greedy business taking advantage of those in need.
MoneyMonet: Terrible place terrible service and rheumatology doctors not worth driving 2hrs for .. I've given them chance after chance over a 3yr period nothing but problems, constantly switched from doctor to doctor, incorrect information, not wanting to fill out FMLA papers etc.. If you care anything about your health or care please go someplace else! Dr K. Chakrabarti will no longer be seeing me!
Christy Campbell: This is the worst set of doctors. I have had my appointments cancelled now twice a week out that I have had for three months due to the doctor will not be in at that time? The next available appointment is another three months out. I will not go back.
Kristen Stokely: It did take six months to get a new patient appointment, but really, this is a top ranked university program. One has to expect this, as so many people are becoming ill with autoimmune disorders much more nowadays, and all of us want to get the best care possible. Obviously, they're inundated with more and more people looking for a great doctor. So, if you're not willing to wait, I'd look for a rheumatologist elsewhere. The UofM rheumatology department is located in the Taubman building. Every person who I encountered was very friendly and helpful. They have both regular wheelchairs and motorized ones available, without any fees. Once, I arrived late for my appointment. The gentleman who was outside of the information desk was right there to help. He arranged for a motorized w/c within a couple of minutes so I could make it to my appointment. *the motorized wheelchairs are on a first come/first serve basis. It made a huge difference when I was on my own.The doctor I saw was Dr Abdulaziz. She was very thorough with her assessment and physical exam (that did not happen with a rheumatologist in my area). Once she was confident that she had all of the information needed, she ordered labs and some tests. From my lab results, my original doctor had found a certain disorder. With the specialized lab testing through UofM, somehow all of my results came back negative. My x-rays also looked fine. On one hand, I was glad nothing showed up. But I was also concerned because I was always in severe pain. I still had a specialized ultrasound of my hands ordered. It showed Dr Abdulaziz that I indeed needed treatment. My ultrasound was on a Thursday afternoon, and I received a call from Dr Abdulaziz Friday morning (and she was in Chicago). That day she ordered medications. It has only been 2 weeks, so I haven't begun to get the full benefits from the meds yet. I do though, feel confident that we will do whatever necessary to stop this from taking my body away from me.I'm very satisfied with my experience. I don't think I would be diagnosed correctly and getting the right treatment if I hadn't gone there (especially since I already was not).* I've also heard that getting an appointment anywhere within the UofM Medical Center takes a long while. As an established patient, my daughter has a 2 month wait just to see her PCP.
Kaitlyn Maxwell: Although the beginning is rough, "Hail to the valors victorious!" I got a severe onset of arthritis at 16. It took me 7 months to get as a patient, even though we were originally told it'd take a year before being accepted as a patient. Dr. Haftel saw me on her lunch hour, barely squeezing me in. She was surprised by how blatantly obvious my case was, apologized for not squeezing me in sooner, and started me on medications immediately. Since then, I've gone from becoming handicapped at 16 to getting my life back around 19. It obviously took a few years for the medications (and physical therapy) to really do their work, but I couldn't be any more grateful for her professionalism and hard work. Miracles really do happen, and sometimes doctors like Haftel have some part in them. :-) If you need a pediatric rheumatologist for your child, this is a good place to go. (Four stars instead of five for poor wait times to get another regular checkup appointment. They are usually booked out by 6 months, but Dr. Haftel will go upfront and show her office staff where to squeeze you in earlier if your case is severe enough to be seen sooner than the schedule normally allows.)
Cinda Gardner: I have always found the staff and doctors very helpful and caring. Love them!
Heather Deann: My husband waited 7 months to get in. UofM was a second opinion for us. My husband had already been diagnosed with RA but this UofM dr states because he does not meet all the RA markers he does not have RA. I felt she was very black and white and could not see outside the lines. We will stick with our orginal dr.

Dr. David K. Vallance, MD: what do users think?
Laurens Light: I’ve seen dr Vallance for 15 years and I have never had another doctor as kind, smart, compassionate, understanding and caring for those with chronic pain. He really listens and works with you to find out what you really need. He is an excellent doctor, and I’d highly recommend him to anyone.
Ladybird: Dr. Vallance is a Dr. who believes you, hears you, understands you, and helps you. He is kind and patient. He really cares.♡ I like that he is integrative. Dr.V is worth the wait and any expense. Wish I saw him years ago for my fibromyalgia and Lupus. I think his recommendations are tailored just right for each patient. I have a friend who’s also been helped by Dr.V.It may be hard to reach a receptionist on the phone, but they will eventually call you back if you leave a message. Patience is definitely required in this one area.
Patricia Dowker: Dr Vallance has been my Dr for over 20 years. He is kind, listens to you, caring, and most of all compassionate. He has been able to diagnose things other Dr missed. Also a shout out to Mary his office staff she has a huge job ..I have always found her to be helpful, nice and so easy to work with.If other people have a problem with her you might want to check their own behavior..because Mary is the best!!
Laurie Humphrey: Dr Vallance and his nurse Christine Frey are great. The Big problem is the lady(Mary) that runs/owns their office support. Not only is she terrible about answering/returning phone calls she is very rude and mean. I have witnessed this first hand myself and have sat in their waiting room and seen her act this way to other patients that came in. I left that practice because of her which I really didn’t want to do. She wasn’t very helpful in regards to getting med refills and authorization with insurances. Never in all of my years(60) have I encountered office staff like her at a doctors office😢
Keith Scott: Very thorough and professional. Multiple members of our family see him, and have for years.
D K: Dr. Vallance and Chris Frye are excellent however it has become harder and harder to schedule an appointment since no one answers the phone. Ever. I finally stopped trying after over two months of calling almost every day but never getting thru. The last thing I wanted to do was to find a new rheumatologist but I finally had to. So sad that the office is run so incompetently. Or maybe it's permanently closed?
JR SH: Dr valance is a good physician but his staff is horrible.
BarbaraW: Excellent in his knowledge, bedside manor, and integrity. Dr. Vallance never makes me feel rushed, always cares about me as a person and not just a “condition”, and is very kind. The best!
Kris Wood: My Mom sees Dr. Vallance about twice each year. He is helping her alot to manage her arthritis. Only complaints I have is I have tried to call maybe 10 times since I started driving her to appointments a year and a half ago. I have yet to get someone to answer the phone. I thought maybe because they didn't have my cell linked to Mom's account, nope, they have it.
Pam Dennison: Dr Vallance is top in his field! He actually listens, not just hears, your complaints. He will thoroughly review your treatment plan with you, and write it down for you as he does. This of course is of great help when you get home. He will use western meds and natural supplements as needed. He even keeps the costs of these meds in mind, even though I never told him it was a concern. I just think that is part of who he is...treating the patient as a person not a disease!! One of the few, possibly the only, doc I have given 5 stars to!! I recommend highly!!
Christa Hanley: Fantastic Doctor, he listens to you and will not shrug you off like most Rheumatologist do, he runs his tests and his bedside manners are 100%.
Kristin Reece: I've been seeing Dr Vallance for years. And he is a Excellent Dr. He takes time to listen and explain and even give you notes so you don't forget! Highly Recommend
john taylor: A great Doctor that really cares for his patients. Very kind, and very professional.
Leslie Hoffman: wonderful doctor. he is a great listener and looks at every option possible to help you. Chris is great makes you feel comfortable being there. i highly recommend this place
Nancy Paris: Excellent medical professionals, highly recommend for rheumatology
charles jackson: One of the Best doctors I have ever had and a trusted friend
Jen's World: Dr. V is amazing. Explains everything and listens well. 5⭐️S for him!Office staff is awful. They don’t answer the phones, don’t return phone calls, can’t figure out how to schedule appointments more than 1 month in the future, are slow and unfriendly in person...1⭐️ For office staff.
Dwight Johnson: Such an amazing doctor! Takes his time with me. Listens. Asks the right questions. The office wait room is a bit 1987 and the front desk staff is not the friendliest ever. But overall a great place!
Judy Huber: He has given me back my life
Yvonne Berger: Dr. Vallance is really one of the best Dr’s I’ve ever had. Compassionate, thorough, and helpful. He actually listens to you. He hand writes down instructions gives helpful suggestions. I would recommend him to anyone.
Shiny Helmet: I have been a patient of Dr. V for 10 years. My wife has been a patient for 20+ years and neither of us would ever go anywhere else. Although her insurance doesn't cover his service, we would rather pay cash than go elsewhere. He is an amazing physician and is the only rheumatologist that has been able to treat our symptoms and our pain. 5+ stars

Monrad Seetha U MD: what do users think?
Katie Wimsatt: I think it is important to differentiate between the doctor herself and the support staff. I too have had frustrating experiences with getting my information through the staff accurately to the doctor, getting the staff to refill my prescriptions in a timely way, getting them communicate to my pharmacy promptly, and general issues regarding communication with the support staff. But I have had really really good experiences with Dr Monrad herself. She was the first rheumatologist that I've ever had that really explained to me what of my symptoms will be alleviated by the medication that I am on, and how to tell which of my symptoms might be due to which aspect of my disease. She just really spent extra time listening to my questions and concerns, and answering them in a clear, concise, and patient way even though I am sure she was very busy. I have had other really good rheumatologists through U of M - also with good bedside manners and knowledgeable about their fields of expertise. Just felt like she was willing to explain things to me in depth in a way that I had not experienced before with a rheumatologist and which I really appreciated.
Megan Reaume: Absolutely the best doctor
Theresa Hayes: I call their office in May 2017 with a referral. They scheduling staff made me jump hoops with paperwork. Having the primary care office with FAX machine issues. After attempting for 2 weeks, I get a phone call that they will contact me sometime in the Summer with an appointment. It has been five months since that call. And I still have not received a appointment. Sad excuse for an doctors office, St Joes Ann Arbor from now on. Bad bad bad!!!

Rachael F: She goes above and beyond every time I see her. So blessed to be in her care!
k b: Dr. Marder is the most professional and thorough rheumatologist I have ever had. I have been treated for over 20 years by various Dr.'s. Dr. Marder outshines them all.
Kandi Staricha: THE BEST- IF YOU WANT SOMEONE THAT WILL FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU HAVE AND WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU, SHE'S THE ONE. DR. MARDER HAS BEEN MY DOC FOR OVER 15 YEARS!
