Bad Luck Bar: what do users think?
Saad Gasgous: This is an awesome place! Love it!The selection of cocktails is more now with a wide variety, which is great, the people working there are super nice and helpful and professional. Definitely recommend this place
Julie Ross: Drinks are so fun. Yes, these are poprocks. Also special curtained entrance makes it feel cool. Open late
Angela V: Bartender Mario is PHENOMENAL! He was exceptional! Incredibly thorough, personable and friendly! He took the time to explain each drink we had questions on and honestly made the experience so enjoyable! Thank you Mario!
Felipe S.: Too expensive for what it is
aditya mohanty: Delicious, boozy and fancy looking . Everything a cocktail wants to be .
Tammy Barringer: Awesome experience
Justin Monroe: I have previously visited this establishment on one occasion. The atmosphere was enjoyable and the experience was good, but I was served the incorrect drink along with a few others. Despite this, we chose not to raise the issue as securing a table can be challenging.Recently, I was part of a group of 6 who dined at this location for a work event after dining at Prime + Proper. We had made a reservation in advance and were informed that we would be seated next as a table of 6 was finishing their meal. Unfortunately, the phone used for the reservation died, so we called from a different number to inform the staff of the change.During the call, a member of our party made an off-handed remark about the cold weather outside, which included the use of a mild expletive. This was not directed at the bar and was simply a general observation about the temperature. When we asked about the status of the table, we were told that our party would be seated soon. However, after waiting in the cold for an additional 20 minutes, a group of 4 arrived and were seated immediately. Upon mentioning our prior reservation and wait time to the host, we were told that our party would not be seated due to the use of an expletive on the phone. This seemed unfair and contradictory as we were previously told we would be seated soon.As a group who frequently dines at upscale restaurants and enjoys fine drinks during work events, we were disappointed with the way the situation was handled. The host's demeanor appeared to be unprofessional and overly authoritative, which left a negative impression on usOne may expect to encounter more capable hosts at a chain restaurant.
Ellie Fassoi: Cool speakeasy bar! The menu is so unique and interesting!
Adam Fisher: Awesome - just awesome
Amy Teske: LOVED the entire experience. Look forward to returning!Fab drinks, atmosphere and service
M: it really was an excellent experience. i was kind of skeptical about a rationed british naval rum and its price point, but after experiencing the other drinks and the bar as a whole, its probably amazing. the only thing i could even attempt to be a bother about is the especially crummy alley you have to endure to get to the door; beyond speakeasy.
Stefanie Greenberg: Walking down the alley way super scary lol but once you knock and they let you in....... enjoy behind the curtain. Good vibes♡♡We were welcomed with a hot toddy tea and an amazing mixologist. Every drink he suggested perfected. Music was an old school hip hop LOVED
Sarah Kelly: Great service and amazing drinks!
James Chandanais: Cool speakeasy style bar in the heart of downtown Detroit. The specials menu changes often to keep things fresh but the incredible bartenders are happy to make any of your favourite drinks.
Kavya Gorrepati: One of a kind experience with Amazing drinks and great customer service. The drinks are very pricey but worth the splurge. A great speakeasy cozy bar setup. The drinks are very presentable too making the experience memorable. Highly recommend the bar !! Loved my experience here.
manoj kumar: We went here for our anniversary date and lived the experience!! I would highly recommend trying this place out.
Sarah Kwon: Interesting drinks and I like that they offer you a snack pairing! =)
George Viju: One of the best bars in Michigan! It’s a bit pricey but totally worth the experience. Our bartender Luca was amazing and very knowledgeable regarding experimenting with various unique flavor profiles.
Rose Kanan: Amazing drinks and amazing service. I ordered the fire eater and it was hands down the best cocktail I have ever had. The presentation was gorgeous and the little side flairs they add to each one are amazing. The drink came with spicy chili tamarind candy and I could sit and eat a bowl of them. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and quick with service. Ordering off the menu is just as good. I also ordered a bourbon base old fashioned and it was perfect. This might be the most expensive drink you have had but it’s worth it for a splurge.
Edward Jackson: This place is great the service is excellent with a great cocktail menu. The venue is small and intimate but I love the exclusivity. The only thing I can complain about is the front receptionist can use better people skills. This bar is one of my favorites in the area I would recommend it.
Jeremy Yoder: Great unique cocktails, good service

Second Best: what do users think?
michael c: I came here accidentally at the same time as a huge crowd of people that were awaiting a nearby concert and despite it being elbow to elbow my friends and I were able to get drinks and food ordered and served all within about 30 mins! We all had the chicken sandwich and potato wedges, actually Almost every person that ordered food there had the same meal, so you know it's a winner from that alone. The interior was well designed, the drinks were great, and the staff were on top of things. I highly recommend Second Best!
Bethany Cardona: got the chicken sandwich and the cheese curds and they were both AMAZZZINGGGGG
Corie Johnson: Food was really good, staff was aloof and not really welcoming but of course, it is downtown Detroit so I'm not surprised won't go out my way to return
Heather Miller: Very cute little bar. Food was pretty good. The Gummy Bear was pretty epic. Tastes just like a gummy bear....be careful!! 😁 Prices are reasonable! Gummy Bear was $12. Sandwich was $13.
Junk Man: The bar is pretty cool. The bar seating is very comfortable. The service is not particularly friendly or welcoming. Not the kinda place that makes you feel like your at home. Not rude, just didn't stand out as friendly as some other places are.
Derek (Hurfone): Still the 2nd best place in the city. Great pub style food , drinks and beer selection. Great atmosphere centrally located in midtown. Small outdoor seating area. Their are also a couple of pub style arcade games.
Thomas Reid: Don't miss the hot chicken sandwich!
Alicia Branch: Chill place to grab a good drink and catch a vibe. They serve food as well, the chicken sandwich is amazing!! I love the Gimlets too!
Julian Aidan: (Not so secretly) an excellent cocktail bar.
Zac Sackko: Sick vibe, cool crowd, good music, awesome food. Wish they had more ciders tho.
Samantha Sanchez: After date night dinner at Bakersfield, we stopped in at Second Best for a night cap to finish off our night. They weren't busy, they were cleaning bottles off around 845 pm. We sat at the bar, staff was attentive and friendly. I highly suggest the Gummi Bear Drink! We will stop in again maybe even give the apps a try next time!
Abdelkader Fares: The fried chicken sandwich tastes like an authentic Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and it is absolutely delicious. It is relatively expensive but well worth the price! I really had nothing bad to say about it and I am confident to say it is probably the best one I've had in Michigan. I will definitely be returning just for that sandwich.
Karen Donald: Staff and atmosphere is amazing! The food was EXTREMELY salty and not good. So disappointed
D B: Very rude service by female bartender. Not friendly to people of color.
Sam I Am: Good bar to watch a game
Tyler Pattullo: Great bar with friendly staff. Awesome place to meet up with friends.
Dino Torres: Sometimes it's to loud to even hear the person next to you talk. Other times it's perfect! That just means that there's a time and place for everyone and if you get a cocktail it will be well made!
Keith Becker - Becker Home Advisors: We love this bar. It is absolutely fantastic! We always come here before or after when we have reservations across the street at their sister restaurant, Grey Ghost. It has the feel of a dive bar but not dive bar food even though it is served in plastic baskets. And they make cocktails as well...not just drinks...cocktails! Like a Smoked Old Fashioned or Smoked Margareta or Rock & Rye made with Rye whiskey and house made Rock & Rye soda. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich is a must try, and be sure to get it with a side of potato wedges. Their Jamacian short rib beef pies with curry sauce melt in your mouth and are so rich and delicious. They recently had chicken wings as a special, and they were some of the best wings we have ever had. They need to add them to their regular menu.Bottom line...don't hesitate if you are thinking of checking them out everything is delicious.Keep in mind that it can get crowded here before and after events at Little Caesars Arena.
Scott McIntyre: I usually love Grey Ghost, Second Best, and Basan. Spent a lot of time and money over the years. Last night I purchased a round of drinks for five of us, standing along the side wall. I went to the bathroom, came back, and my high noon was "cleaned up". A normal human being after this accident would have replaced the drink (thats good service for an accident). She went and got the bouncer and had me escorted out of the building. I was sober lol. Won't be back.
Lance Peters: Without Nick this place is a 3 star. With Nick this is one of the best customer services I’ve had the best experience downtown I’ve had in years. Good wings and good deals during the Lions game.
Megan Sonnenberg: Great place to watch the lions game. Friendly staff and good drinks!

The Ghostbar at the Whitney: what do users think?
Susan Clayton: Great Happy Hour
Ron Reed: The mythical atmosphere alone is worth a visit. After a second visit to the Ghost Bar, it has now become a GO TO Detroit destination. The staff is exceptional. The talented piano player has a great attitude and is a lot of fun.Strongly suggest the stuffed portobello mushroom appetizer.
Jeanine B: I loved the Ghost bar. I love the little cozy rooms. Enjoyed sitting and watching traffic and people walking around.
RG Harden: Great bar tender. Enjoyed seeing the old Whitney home.
Brandon Thomas: Cocktails are fine. Nothing impressive and little expensive. Desserts nice duo.Setting is enjoyable and historic nice, it's just hard to see many angles
Constance Dobson: Excellent food, drinks and service. The manager asked us to hurry up because he needed the table! We were still drinking and felt like we didn’t matter. Won’t go back because of him!
Corey Osentoski: Cool
Thomas Gordon: Great atmosphere
Jeffrey Buller: The Ghost Bar is a family favorite and last night was another great time. Alfred provided friendly and professional service even though he was the only bartender and the place was hopping!Classy atmosphere and great ambience make for a delightful place for cocktails.
Chadd Corwin: EVERY TIME I’ve come here (and it’s been a lot over the years) great stories and memories have come from it. And yes, it IS haunted but not in a creepy way; chances are someone in your party will see something they can’t explain. (Last time a friend from out of town mentioned talking to the bathroom attendant -but they don’t have attendants!)If course the food is impeccable, yet they manage perfect service without seeming “stuffy”. Highly recommend for a special occasion or just dinner with some friends.
Viswanath Krishna: Just the right surreal ambience for those evening spirits !
Angela Calloway: Was wonderful experience.
Kayla McTaggart: My first time at the Whitney, it was phenomenal. Service was wonderful, LaKeitha was kind and attentive. The food and drinks were excellent. I'm excited to go back again.
Alex Cornell: One of the coolest bars in Detroit and it’s such an awesome spot. Really great service!
Kevin Watson: Very nice
Abhishek Joshi: Great bar with historical architecture. Only issue is there are very few seats in the bar area and it's usually full
Carol Small: Love this place. Historical and great service! Check out their birthday special!
Ingramar Miller: I love the Whitney! My nephew got engaged there and I have other found memories from this fine establishment.
Ian Templeton: Very beautiful and surprisingly chill bar inside the Whitney mansion! The drinks are on the pricey side, but they are worth the price! I would suggest The Witching Hour if you like vodka. Even though The Whitney is a very formal restaurant, the bar is informal but in a very classy environment. If you’re looking for a great drinking experience in a place that makes you feel like you’ve gone back in time, this is the place to go! I’ll definitely be coming back.
Nat Zorach: Lovely intimate setting in a historic venue
Ben S: Amazing atmosphere, food was out of this world (order the beef wellington) and service was phenomenal! Ask for deb, she made the evening that much more special. Stick around for the paranormal tour. You will not be disappointed.

Abick's Bar: what do users think?
James Hughes: Cool place, nice staff very knowledgeable about the bar & area history.
Deborah Goode: Just an old bar with lots of history. Take a good look around! Pool table is really crammed in the place.
Ron Reed: This is a Detroit classic that needs to be on your list of historic Detroit bars.
Island Ewert: Stopped here on a tour and it was great!
Jeffrey Pollock: Awesome little neighborhood bar.
Andrew R: Stopped off at this pub and was quickly enamored with the charm and history. Bartender was great as was the ambiance. Looking forward to returning in the near future!
George H: Great prohibition neighborhood bar.
MJ C: Great neighborhood bar.
Robert Ybarra: Still the best "Dive Bar" around. Love this place.
Amber Sitko: Great place to hang out, great people.
Matt Conflitti: Knock twice mention my name you'll get a good seat ya know?
Kristine D.: We went on our own dive bar tour and this was one of our stops. First visit. What a great local bar! Tons of history. Nice selection of beers. Definitely will visit again.
Veronika Ford: Great
colette nutton: Greatest corner bar ever. The moment you step in the door, you'll live it and want to bring others established in 1907 and still owned by the same family
Peggy Muntner: Tasty libations, interesting conversation, and the cutest pup making sure all are having a good time.
Jacob Krogmeier: This is a special place unlike any other I have been to. A slice of old Detroit still alive and well. The drinks are great the beer is cold but it's the atmosphere that really sets this place apart. The cigar lounge is wonderful, well ventilated, cool and the walls are covered in historic DPD artifacts. I have been to a few events here which never disappoint. Also the door man is the best around. The outside seating area is nice and spacious when the weather is right and Eric brings in some serious talent to cook several times a year. Do yourself a favor and get down here!!
A G: Good place but need to fix the TV situation. Wasn't able to watch tigers game.
Greg Mitchell: Beautiful hidden gem.
Anne MacNicol: Cool place. With an outside and does parties. Tiffany behind bar is amazing
Stephanie: Place is closed for good
Martin Rapson: Great neighborhood bar

Evening Bar: what do users think?
Jordan Burciaga: A very strange "door in the wall" bar. Cocktails are quite adventurous but good. Staff and bar tenders are excellent
Scott: Hhhhhmmmmm??? It’s very dark in here. I realized they keep it dark so you can’t see the tiny pour of overpriced bourbon. 5 tiny wings for $20, little fried olives were $18. Not even a speakeasy vibe, disappointed. The hotel here is very nice with great service, so that’s a bright spot.
Ryan: Being early means waiting in a cramped bar and never getting seated.8:15 Reservation. Showed up at 8:03, waited 6 minutes for hostess in a cramped nonexistent waiting area. She told us we were early and to go wait in hotel and would call/text us when ready. Waited until 8:30 no call or text. All we got was a “almost ready” text when she checked us in. Didn’t get one the entire night saying we had our reservation. Reminded of the Seinfeld “you know how to TAKE a reservation, you just don’t know how to HOLD it”.It’s a cramped tiny bar that has no problem being “exclusive” at your expense. Will never try to go there again and will actively tell everyone we know to avoid it.
Josh Levey: Swanky bar in the Shinola hotel serving interesting drinks with liquor I’ve never heard of. Ordered the Dirt Cup and Eddie Gordo. The Dirt Cup was a nice blend of sweet and bitter, kind of like a grapefruit with sugar. The Eddie Gordo was tasty and tropical. Staff was great and helpful, vibe was nice.
Ashley Lowman: Only giving 2 stars because of how I was approached when I first walked in. I didn't have a reservation but it was only the bar full not the tables. They made it seem like they were booked up for the time I was there and they were not. I stood there and made a reservation to get seated then and there. I was able to schedule a reservation for the time I was there when the host could have just sat me down at a table. The drink I had was good but I'm not wowed by the service.
D'Kari Wilson: This is my favorite bar in the downtown area. The drinks are always made well. This time we ordered a Moscow mule and pinot noir. But we also love the music and atmosphere. It’s inside the Shinola Hotel so it’s very intimate, almost like a speakeasy. It’s dimly lit and has a very sophisticated aesthetic. This upscale vibe invites you to dress up to match the energy although there’s no dress code. It’s a sit-down bar that takes reservations (they also take walk ins but wouldn’t recommend) so there’s no one ever bumping into you and it’s never overcrowded. For music you’ll hear everything from Frank Ocean to Rihanna to Prince. It’s a perfect spot to start or end your night.
Zachary H: This place is horrible. Within 5 minutes of being here our server came by and forcefully took our order. When I told her I wasn’t ready yet she pointed me to the beer section to let me know that’s what most people order when they don’t know what they want. After ordering a beer and sitting for ~10 minutes our server came by to ask if we needed anything else or if she could bring the check. What a literal stain on a nice complex where service is at the forefront within the Shinola hotel. Hope they close.
Melyssa Bonner: The staff was very rude and did not accommodate us with the insane traffic downtown. The staff was dismissive and angry. I would not recommend this place
Raven “Frank” Sharp: As bad as I like this intimate sexy night out type of place, I am treated very differently at the door based on how I dress for the day. And what I mean is, the more “urban”= “the longer the wait” if you know what I mean… yet when I dress for the gods, I’m treated like one! I’ve been going since 2019 soooo… just dress well when you go and you’ll love it!
T White: Nice spot to "wine" down and enjoy.
Ryan Preston: Lovely food and cocktails
Rosemary Magidsohn: Cozy vibe and cool location but the cocktails were overpriced and not very good. The bartender and hostess were not welcoming. Overall the bar was pretentious. Would only go back if the drinks were better.
usagiecyla: It was dimly lit and intimate like the website said and nicely decorated. The problem is the loud ratchet music, you can't hear your date. I thought this was going to be a great place for a first date.
Torya Blanchard: Sexy vibe, but the drinks were overpriced and bland. People don’t mind paying for a good quality drinks, but my drink was like fruit juice in a martini glass. They need to revamp their cocktail menu ASAP. Candy Bar blows them out the water.
David Smith: Waste of time. The service was a joke and the drinks were weak. The staff was rude and wasn't worth the time it took to go there!
Lorenzo Pavoloni: Very disappointing experience. My family and I travelled from San Francisco, CA to visit the Shinola Hotel and its bar/restaurant. Upon walking into the bar, the maître d' refused to come over and seat us. When we flagged him down, he proceeded to inform us, rudely, that there were no available seats, despite there being 4-5 open stools at the bar. When we asked if we could add our names to a waitlist or make a reservation for a later date, he simply said "no" and walked away. Our family has several Shinola products -- we love the company and have always been treated very well at their retail locations. However, the hotel and restaurants have exceptionally haughty and pretentious vibes which are disparate from the company's overall mission and values.
Gwendolyn Stein: I absolutely LOVE this place. The atmosphere is great. Reminds me of a place James Bond would frequent. It's attached to a hotel. The bartenders, when I went, were great and creative. Good vibe.
Ronda Majeran: I was so excited to try this bar, we stayed at the Shinola. Had friends meet us at the bar before walking to have dinner. We are originally from Detroit, moved to Chicago. We sat at the bar as we waiters for our guests to arrive. The bartender could not have been ruder. You could tell that he was more interested in watching himself shake the shakers in the mirror, more than he was actually interested in being a bartender. We were trying the enjoy the music, however, the bartender thought for some reason we would be more interested in his cover of the Kanye song that was on. My old fashioned was terrible. The service was so slow, that we had no choice but to leave. For a lounge bar in Detroit that charges Chicago prices. It could be SO much better. Shinola deserves better as this bar is *not* affiliated with the hotel.
Adam Lewis: Cocktails were on or with similar establishments around the area. The service was terrible. After finishing my first drink no one came to ask if I wanted another or to close me out; after 15 minutes I got up to find an employee and have them cash me out. They were not busy as we were one of two tables in what I would call the back area of the bar. I’d also say the autistics need to be improved as for as few people that were there it was very loud. To the point I couldn’t hold a conversation.
Simyra Haynie: Love the ambiance & Drinks this was my favorite bar that I support frequently until last night. The host was rude from the second I got in and I was nothing but respectful. I was late to a reservation and was not able to keep my reservation which is understandable. Then I went online and was able to rebook for 15 min later so I booked it and the host said well I dont know how you were able to book that I’m full for the night then walked away from me and never walked back over by me or acknowledged me. Then I get a email that says my reservation was cancelled.
K M: Awesome spot for some late night cocktails and conversation. I really like the low key elegant vibes and our party had a great time.

The Sugar House: what do users think?
Randy S: Always great
AJ: Waited weeks to leave this review, but I can’t get over how bad the service was at the bar. Bartender literally threw our napkins at us, with no greeting… She had a terrible attitude the whole night, and then proceeded to offer me a higher priced liquor for my drink without mentioning the up charge. Seriously the worst experience I’ve had at a bar.
Tamika Davis: Nice intimate setting with very good drinks
Michael Simony: Extensive collection of solid choice alcohol with an amazing grouping to create terrific drinks. So sayeth the shepherd...
Alexandra Peterson: Amazing cocktails, super unique. Can’t wait to go back!
Jon Benedict: Brye was a delight. I'm not religious but I saw God in the drinks we were served. It was a revelation.
Mary Goebel: They make a mean cocktail! Let these experiences folks do their job and you won't be disappointed.
Desmond Cureton: They have good drinks and their popcorn is very good too.
Twonni Mathis: Amazing drinks, great vibe, and great people! Stopped here for drinks with friend while waiting on another order. I had the perfectly crafted Landing on Lavender drink and my friend was recommended the Bee Sting. Well balanced and unique drinks!
Stephen Wilke: Very good drinks but very hard to get a seat here and the service is SO SLOW. I'm not talkin "takin your time to mix an exceptional drink" slow, I'm talkin "20 minutes before you see a server" slow which is just unacceptable. I won't say the drinks made up for it, but 5 different cocktails and a full absinthe service did eventually arrive at our table and they were all dynamite, so at least the bartenders know what they're doing
Rebecca Ross: Was my pick for my birthday. We've never been here and took a chance on being a walk-in couple. Wow! This place was incredible. The atmosphere is calming, and taxidermy is fun. We were even lucky enough to be able to sit at the bar. The wealth of knowledge Tony had about the drinks, different liquors, and the history behind the labels was astonishing. Perfect birthday and great conversation! We will be back for sure to see Tony and let him make surprise drinks for us.
Zachary Coles: Booking at this place is insane. If you don’t get there early and talk to the host good luck. We talked to the host waited an hour and the time it took to walk over after the text we got about our table being ready (3 minutes maybe less) our reservation was gone and they said we had to wait another 45 minutes for a table. Was really excited to try this place but the customer service and satisfaction is not something that they prioritize here. It’s by the book and no exceptions. Wish I could’ve had the experience. Won’t be trying again.
Jill Zikewich: My experience has been terrible and I haven’t even been there yet!!! My husband made a reservation online for my birthday but inadvertently made it for a wrong date. He paid the $20/ person deposit as required and was unable to change the reservation online. After multiple phone calls, voicemails, emails and a FB message we got no responses. I called and spoke to a very RUDE manager named Kristin who proceeded to interrupt me three times when I was trying explain my situation. I finally had to snap at her to get her stop and listen. The reservation was amended. I don’t prefer to snap at anyone but being polite and patient didn’t get me anywhere. A light and breezy tone just wasnt cutting it. She proceeded to hang up on me also, very mature. I just hope the in-person experience is better. To be continued…
Michael Davis: Great service great cocktails
Lynn “Pencilmarks”: Fun cocktails, delicious and different. So many to choose from, you will definitely find one (or several) you like!
Anonda Crawford: Good food and drinks were on point.
Barry P: My favorite place to get a cocktail in Michigan. Smoked old fashion is unbelievably good!
Samantha Decker: Maybe the best cocktails I've ever had 😯 super-friendly attentive staff only problem was a parking but that's not their fault. 10/10 would go back
Chadd Corwin: Sultry, delicious, fun. Get here early because it will fill up, but that’s ok -it’s a rare place that feels just as comfortable if you’re by yourself or with 55 friends.
Kai Rod: Very very cool interesting place!! In the mood to try something different. This is the place! You will not be disappointed
Josh Levey: Hip bar in Corktown serving high quality craft cocktails. The drinks were 👌🏼- ordered a painkiller and a mezcal drink, both very tasty. Staff was friendly, talented bartenders
