Heather Hill: I was almost a potential renter until I read the reviews. The scan like practice of keeping security deposits and charging for damages when you charge extra for people with no insurance, and your website mentions that people are only supposed to be responsible for the deductible. Your website says that deposits are refundable upon return, yet NOWHERE does it state when a deposit is NON refundable. That's could be seen as intentional deception when, like most people have stated, they wouldn't have made a reservation under such absurd conditions. You want to literally get paid for NOTHING, and there's NOT a guarantee that you would've been booked otherwise. I can understand why you'd have to steal money because you're clearly running customers away. Your EXCUSE that you aren't a big business is the lamest and most unprofessional by far. If someone cancels 3 freaking weeks in advanced, that's MORE than enough time to have the vehicle booked to another client. I feel that ALL of the victims of your bad business practices should start a class action lawsuit against your company. Your are INTENTIONALLY deceiving people to keep their money; especially when it's mentioned that you don't see a contract until AFTER a deposit is made. I hope that it AT LEAST states in your contract that deposits are non refundable, and I would advise EVERYONE to read for that part BEFORE signing such a money grabbing business practice. I'm angry because I was so close to POSSIBLY becoming their next victim. I'm so glad that I read the reviews.
Terrance Warren: DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT rent ANYTHING from this fraudulent, money stealing company. I Had a trip and inquired about the van. Was told that it’s a $500 deposit to reserve the van. Unfortunately I had to cancel the reservation which I did 3 weeks before I was suppose to pick up the van. Asked about the refund of my $500 and they told me that it was not refundable. Had me very confused because I was never told this before I made the reservation because if they had told me I would have NEVER made the reservation. How are you going to keep my money and I never rendered the services. I will be sending my lawyer their way. So like I said do not deal with this company, they are up charging and scamming ppl. The lady I talked to never mentioned anything about a non refundable deposit because she know that it’s stupid. I only received the contract AFTER I made the deposit of $500. They lucky im out of town because things could have went left really quick and as I go through these reviews I see im not the only one!!! LAJUANA TURNER: I reserved a van through another rental company but the van was unavailable when I arrived. I looked up van rentals and found Michigan Car and Van Rental. I gave them a call and by the time I got there, a van was ready for me. They were able to accommodate me on short notice with a clean and serviceable van. They’re reasonably priced as well. No hassle upon return of the rental. They’re definitely my first choice for rental needs from now on.

When I called back to make a new reservation so I didn’t lose my deposit they said you have a reservation for today so if you don’t come get a vehicle you will lose your deposit now. It’s a scam! They tell you that you have 30 days to make a reservation or you will lose your $500. I never made a reservation and they are saying I did. So bye bye $500. When I called them about having to cancel they were so nice and accommodating but calling back to actually make that reservation was a different story!

Erica Leverenz: Rented a vehicle to go out of town for a funeral. First the car only had a quarter of a tank of gas. Then the rear passenger seatbelt retracted back and wouldn't come back. Today, they sent us to rental agency to switch the car for another one which was a 45 minute drive away from where we are staying. That place on Mack Ave doesn't exist anymore. This the worst experience ever and calling them is even worse.

Gabby Groce: I initially made my reservation so that I could pick up from the Eastpointe location on Nov 9.This is the location that is closest to my moms house so it would be convenient to pickup/drop off. Someone from Hertz called on Dec 10th to inform me that I could not pick up the car from the Eastpointe location and that it would have to be the Grosse Pointe location (much further from my moms house).Fast forward to to Dec 30th. I arrive at the Grosse Pointe Store. The women working asked if I had called before and when I had made the reservation. I told them over a month ago. They informed me (while explaining to one another) that they had not been checking the Eastpointe system and that they did not have the car I reserved, an SUV (Q4). They did not know when they would get a vehicle in that specific range and called around to other locations. This took some time. Eventually, they found a store, in Centerline, much closer to my moms house. So then they processed my order and I had to have my mom drive me from Grosse Pointe to Centerline to get the car for a measly $20 off the initial price.Once I got to the Centerline location I had to wait an additional 20+ mins because the car had JUST gotten dropped off! This experience has really given me a bad feeling about renting with hertz in the future.

AJ AJ: I arrived at Detroit international airport and I had made my reservation for Grosse Point, I had a ride from the airport to Grosse Point where I was supposed to pick my car up, but they told me I needed a $200 deposit on a credit card, I just had gotten back from Lima Peru and my only credit card available to have over $200 on it was in Kentucky, but I had the numbers for it, so I told them I could provide them the numbers or if they could lower the deposit to $100 I had enough on another card to do that, they said no it was mandatory and they were NOT going to be able to help me. The customer service at Grosse Point was terrible, Detroit international was better, but still no help.I transferred $300 from my debit card to my credit card to pay down my credit card so I could make the deposit, but I had to wait 24 hours my credit card company said, in the meantime my reservation was still good I was told and I would be able to use it the next day, they could push it forward one day no problem.Fast forward, an Indian guy canceled my reservation thinking he could get me a better deal for $44, not looking at my reservation properly he thought I was returning the car to Detroit, when clearly I was returning it to London, Kentucky!!! If he could have just read my original booking he would've known instead of just canceling my reservation WITHOUT my permission... after that I went to Hertz rental car at Detroit international to find out about my rental car, after talking to Hertz on the phone about 3 hours today before I went there, I got there and they said that my reservation was canceled ( as mentioned above ) and they can not reinstate it, they wanted to rent me a car for $182, and another for $170 was their cheapest... I said look I rented in weeks in advanced and I did not cancel it, it was YOUR people that canceled it, not me! YOU are the people that canceled it you need to take responsibility for YOU canceling my reservation... because this Indian guy who did not speak proper English decided it was a good idea to cancel it because he could get me a better deal, but instead of being a proper customer service agent he went ahead and made a new reservation without fully understanding what was going on.So now they will not reinstate the one that this Indian guy canceled and now I have no way of getting a car, my rate was $65.97 and they want to charge me $170... that is over $100 more than what I should be charged.On top of that, after I left the office, getting there took about 10 mins on a bus and about 10 mins waiting for the bus, and 10 minutes back ( another 30 minutes wasted on Hertz before even wasting another 30 minutes there ) after getting off the bus at Detroit international, I waited on hold for 30 minutes, after that I got really upset I decided to hang up and call back, I called back and talked to this guy explained the situation for the 20th time today and he said hold on, he put me on hold and then put me over to the main menu it was like "press 1 for reservations.. press 2 for..." what the hell?!?!?! I asked to be transferred to his boss or someone that can help me... so now I am stuck here in Detroit almost 14 hours stranded at the airport with no help, no way to get out, and my only rental car was canceled by some Indian guy who didn't understand what was going on. I can't believe this nightmare, this company is a joke.No other company would ever do this, if Enterprise was to make the same mistake, they would fix it and might even give me a bigger discount for the hassle, all and all I have spent about 5 hours talking to Hertz today and I assume I'll have another 5 hours tomorrow before I get this resolved, This is a joke and I will NEVER rent from hertz again.

My sister had to rent a car from them in the past and though she quite emphatically and repeatedly declined insurance, they still charged her card for it and it figuratively took FOREVER (in the form of innumerable calls and call backs and navigating the impenetrable Amazon of customer service prompts) to get amended.Also, if you're going to try to call them. Good luck. They have one line and if you call when it's in use, you'll get that old school busy signal that is singular to the wonders of a landline sans voicemail.Summary: if you have money to burn in the form of excessive overcharges and you have TOP SHELF health insurance that covers new lungs and tracheas ... rent a car from these guys.If you want to rent a car, only pay what you agreed to pay, and still be able to breathe independently with your original parts, go somewhere else. Enterprise isn't far down the street and my family has used them in the past and they are pretty legit.

I have to admit my frustration with my partner was on my sleeve and I was not very kind during my first interaction…again not due to the policy the company has but by the inability of my partner to confirm as requested prior to the trip…the Budget rental center here could have very well turned me down but the owner was willing to work with my situation and find an alternative way to confirm directly with my cc company and they didn’t have to do this. I received an upgrade and assisted me even as I had walked right in at closing time. I am thankful for their understanding and willingness to help. He sounded like a complete rude jerk on the phone but he was very niceTo me when I went inside and I could see why he was short on the phone. While i was there the phone rang constantly with people asking questions. The SUV was nice inside and out and it drove very well. The drop off was just as easy just a little 5 minute wait in line.

Hannah Rickard: This review is specifically in reference to a rental drop-off (drove from Miami) to the Dearborn Budget location. I will say, it is very difficult to find this location, as there is no signage and it is inside a mall. However, while I unfortunately did not get the Budget representative's name who helped me, he was literally SO KIND! I was in a complete panic, having just driven 22 hours by myself from Miami and unloaded my things into a new apartment in the area, and realizing that I was cutting it close to the drop-off time. The representative who helped me at the Dearborn location was extremely understanding and patient. He was able to stay and meet me outside for the car drop-off. I am so appreciative of this representative and the kindness he showed me. Thank you!

Terria Deasfer: I picked up the "death trap" car from the Dearborn location. Drove on the street and it shook a little, i could tell the car had possibly been in a previous accident. I entered the expressway and as i accelerated to 50 the entire front end began to shake horribly. I immediately slowed to 35-40 miles per hour for it to stop until i could get to the nearest exit. Cars were racing past me and i was almost rear ended twice. The 2 stars is for the Farmington site representative who was kind to me once i arrived there visible upset. And a star for the drop off driver. I would NEVER get another car from that Dearborn location.

Christine Merriman: The location was fine, it was the airport’s miscommunication that irritated me. The car was almost 5 hours late arriving in Southfield which severely delayed my trip and made me waste a day of hotel expenses.
Dope Boy P: The vehicle type I reserved wasn’t available, and they only had one vehicle on their lot for rent. This was an emergency situation, otherwise I would’ve went elsewhere. The van I was offered was a mess. It looked as if a family of 5 took the van on a cross country excursion for a week, returned it, and was never cleaned. The windows weren’t clear, the carpet needed vacuuming, the seats, floor mats, and all the cracks and crevices were full of grime and debris. Surprisingly it didn’t smell bad… It was an absolute mess to the point of me taking 15mins in their parking lot just to wipe the touch points down with Lysol wipes. I left a more detailed review on their follow up survey, but I’m not sure if it’ll be for public view. The sales reps are nice guys, but the products they rent don’t meet basic standards. Choose another location if you’re able to, but unfortunately for me Southfield Budget was the only location with available rentals. Lastly, when I returned the van and was asked how was my experience, of course I expressed my displeasure. I was told by Carlos I should’ve notified him of the issues prior to leaving, but as I told him, he wasn’t present, I didn’t know he existed, and I had an emergency need. I wasn’t offered any discount rate, or reimbursement for my troubles, just an apology and confirmation to charge my card on file, smh. Again… Very nice guys there, but the product I received was subpar to say the least.

I had to get a coworker to take me to get some. I had called Roadside and spoke to TANYA who came across uncaring and told me to either get it serviced or she could call to pick it up.
Ronnie Mcnair: I had THE WORST EXPERIENCE with a rental car agency. I picked up my rental on July 8th the very NEXT day the engine ran hot. I called emergency roadside after hiking for a hour I was told I would get a text for an Uber to take me to get a new car, and another to tow the car. Two hours later the tow truck company showed, but no Uber. Called back held for another two hours and was promised a Uber. After waiting more hours my Uber never showed. Called back for the third time had to request a supervisor who then sent the Uber within 10 mins. I specifically asked the supervisor was the Budget I was being sent to still open. To my surprise they were closed when I arrived and I then had to pay for a Uber out of pocket $50 to get to my hotel. When I got home I then realized I was charged an extra day which the car was dropped off after I released it to the tow company the day prior.

I have been renting from this place for really long time for my business trips and things were just fine until this round: I book my vehicle end of March for a trip early MAY (over a month in advance) and i get a confirmation number then on the day of picking up the minivan for myself and my coworkers to go to Lisle-IL i receive a call that ALL SOLD OUT and Sorry we cannot accommodate you. Very very disappointing. I will cancel my future booking from this site and going somewhere else. Watch out for one hr notification before you pick up your vehicle of sorry too bad, the confirmation given to you in advance is meaningless ... you are on your own... awesome business model

Joy Pandya: Had to wait for more than an hour for the driver to come pick us up from the specified location. We had to call them 4 times, and every time, they said, "The driver will be there any minute". It's not the greatest experience, especially when you have to be somewhere on time.

Domo Hunt: My Husband and I went to pick up a vehicle from the budget royal ok. First off the cars were outdated. But the owner checks us out for a 2020 rav 4 black we inspect the vehicle the bumper is split in half. we go back in-the owner checks out a red rav 4 we inspect the vehicle scratches galore and the rear wheel well on both sides are literally flapping. We say absolutely not. He refuses an upgrade and then says that all of his vehicles are claimed and what kind of customer service is it to upgrade our car. No way in hell would this have happened at any other rental car company ever. Just tell someone hop on the road with their family and cross their fingers and hope the car held together with bubblegum and paper clips keeps them safe. Budget/Avis as a company needs to beware who they allow to operate under their name. I wish I could have given them zero stars!

David Frank: Received rental vehicle that was booked a month in advance near closing time. Wasn’t given the keys till they had locked up, only to find the tires completely bald. Was given an exchange vehicle with slightly less bald tires the next morning (now very late for travels) 2 cars in a row, not safe to drive. Extremely disappointed and will never again book through this place.

She called her manager I guess, and he said it was up to her. She decided against the fee SO I THOUGHT until I got my credit card statement. The receipt I received was for a one day rental of $169!!!! She added the fee after I left... Do NOT RENT from there!!!!! I'm ready to call Detroit Fox 2 on them because obviously it's some horrible INTEGRITY issues at that place!!!! Do NOT GO THERE!!!! Never trust a lady who wear FAKE Cartier frames and bright long nail polish!!!

However, even though I refilled the tank to what they said was the amount it was before, they still charged me $20 for fuel service. On my way out, I asked if I was good or if there would be any additional charges, and they lied and said no.

Michael Sheldon: I returned my car on May 30th and received a text today that stated it was 3 days overdue. I had to call customer service to clear it up. Get it together. Rent from another company.
avis payton: I will never ever rent from Budget as long as I'm alive. I am a customer who never hardly rent cars. I received the car on 3/4 of a tank, then brought the car back a little in 3/4 of a tank and they charged me $99.00. I was really hurt because they never explained that to me by this being my first time. So be careful and read the fine print because they made a killing off me but I guarantee you, they will never ever do I again....from a very upset customer.
Jasmine Lewis: Budget over charge me. My flight time to leave was 7:50 am, I returned the car at 4:30 am. They said I returned the car at 9:00am. Getting over on people sure they do this often. I was on the plane by then half way home. What happened is whoever processes the cars then get to it till 9:00am. Now I have to go through bs to get my money.
Shelby Slater: The interior of the vehicle was moderately clean, however, the exterior was a disaster. There was egg shells and egg residue along the drivers side extending from roof to door bottom, the front was encrusted with bug guts and the car (black in color) was left for me in this condition. Even after taking it to a car wash, a good amount of the grime remained. The car was reserved in well enough time to have it thoroughly cleaned before my arrival.

I completely missed the celebration that I was flying in for! When I called customer service they told me that they would offer me a discount upon returning the car, however, after returning the car I was still charged the full amount on my rental. I will not use Budget nor will I recommend budget after this horrible experience. I completely missed my grandmother‘s 90th surprise birthday party. Not to mention the fact that I reserved an economy car to save money on gas and was given a full size, huge SUV.The entire experience with Budget was frustrating and in all my years of travel it is something I have never experienced with any rental agency. This was my first and last time using Budget
Richard Taylor: I got a second-rate car for double the price. I picked up around 1 a.m. I got a so-called "upgrade" - no fault of the agent from a compact to a midsize. It was a "floater" with a FL license plate.While the outside was washed, the inside was dirty. It was late and at night, so I couldn't tell at the time. Also, I saw in the morning that the interior windows hadn't been cleaned and the dashboard was dusty.The oil change light after my first day driving. I called the DTW airport Budget, but it kept bouncing to the 1-800 number. That receptionist said there was nothing she could do and to take the car back. I wasn't going to take it back and then hear they had nothing available.You guys were good until this.

Gary Libby: Dirtiest vehicle I have ever picked up at a car rental business (to include 3rd world countries). There were bug guts all over the windshield/front grill, countless food crumbs and drink spills on the interior, and months worth of dust caked up on the front dash. It would have taken over 30 minutes to an hour to switch into another vehicle and we were on a time crunch...so we just had to deal with it... after this experience, I will never do business with Budget again...they should be embarrassed by that level of neglect.

Since it was already after midnight and I had already waited over a half hour to get the car, I was told I could go back in or note it on the out ticket. I chose to note it and go on. The worse part was being charged $60 for gasoline when I filled it up at the airport car return exit. This was in Detroit so the gas station was less than five miles from the car rental return. I was told to leave the keys in the car and go on and then several hours later received the invoice showing a fueling charge. I will be disputing the charge and will not be renting from Budget again.The charge has been taken off “as a one time courtesy” but that does not change my opinion of this practice.

Craig Slaughter: The agent that handled us at the counter was very nice and helpful. It was just an extremely long time to wait to be seen. The car that we were provided was absolutely filthy inside. The car smelled so bad from what seemed like a previous smoker that my mother had to wear a mask. I wiped down every surface with Clorox wipes and sprayed air fresheners on the carpet. We kept the windows open overnight and the smell didn’t abate. Finally, I checked the in cabin air filter to discover that it was completely caked with dirt. Truly unacceptable. I bought a new in cabin air filter and replaced it and that helped significantly, but not completely.
