Castalia at Sfumato: what do users think?
Jason Heien: Been wanting to visit Castalia at Sfumato for 3 years and finally go the chance to!While reservations are recommended, we were lucky enough that there was a table of 4 inside that were leaving right when we walked up.Service is AWESOME!The cocktails are one of a kind. The fragrances are completely unique.Pro tip: make a reservation for their tasting menu, where you will be able to sample all 8 of their cocktails!Pro tip #2: get the candied nuts! You will NOT be disappointed. We are definitely coming back to do the tasting menu!
Zack Ostin: A unique cocktail lounge in a small intimate space. Staff is fun and friendly. You get a delicious cocktail paired with a scent. They have non alcoholic options too.
Andreas Unterste: A cocktail bar in a perfume store, what a great way to tickle all your senses. Small, intimate with great bartending craft in addition to the cool idea. Will come again.
Joe Wolfram: Amazing cocktails! Amazing atmosphere!
Briana Cartwright: Lovely intimate cocktails and create your own fragrance.
Lee Steanhouse: Clean and efficient
Todays Present: We loved our treating experience and the concept of the fragrance with cocktails. I genuinely appreciate the crafting of the cocktails and the order in which they were presented. I didn't love or hate any of the cocktails. They were a bit on the sweet side. I would totally return to the fragrance store to check that out. I especially love how they transformed the space. They have an alcohol free tasting menu too!
Jarred Gild: the best people in detroit making the best drinks in detroit
Jarred Napier: Cool space with a very unique concept. Will definitely be coming back.
Deserea De: Absolutely love this place. It’s so cozy and peaceful. What a great concept and use of space. The owners are genius and the staff are amazing. I will definitely be returning.
Likah Glitter: Very late review but extremely beautiful! Surprised my loved for his birthday and we both enjoyed ourselves (I don’t drink lol). Kyle was a sweetheart and lovely bartender! The fragrances really complement the drink. Very unique and fun experience!
Jess Miller: amazing experience!
Mark Michael: Castalia / Sfumato is the best kept secret in the city of Detroit; Amazing, brilliant, meticulous, and experiential. Something you can't get - and won't be able to find - elsewhere. The owner, Kevin, is phenomenal and the entire staff is astounding. For anyone reading this: You won't be disappointed. Everything they do here is absolutely incredible.
Kenton Taylor: These cocktails are very well crafted and paired with aromas. The owner, Kevin was really nice and explained everything for us. A great little spot that we would like to go back to soon!
Dan Nguyen: This place feels like the best kept secret bar. The bartenders (at least the night I went) were incredible, very knowledgeable, super friendly, and an incredibly fun time overall. We had a particularly great time trading riddles with our main bartender which made for such an adventurous night. The drinks themselves were all very creative and different. Go in with no expectations and just enjoy the experience as best as you can, you won't regret it!
Leonardo D.: A small and cozy experimental cocktail bar; perfect to bring a date. All their drinks are paired with a scent for a well rounded experience of the senses. Also, they can be paired with a nicely curated charcuterie board. If undecided, Kyle will give you the best cocktails recommendations!
Whit H: Incredibly unique experience here. I recommend making a reservation for the full menu tasting at the bar if possible for the best experience. I had very unique cocktails here with rare spirits and combinations paired with their fragrances. The bar is quite small so a reservation is key.
Kaila James: Kevin is amazing! Drinks,Experience , flavor pallet is the best I have ever witnessed. Cute and quaint bar with outstanding cocktails
Michaela Kociuk: Highly recommend. Cocktails were delicious and James was amazing!
Luke Lordes: One of the best cocktail places around Detroit. For sure an experience with the scents. I ended up buying the scent because I loved it so much. Super cool place to take people visiting the area! The people who work here are so knowledgeable and make you feel super welcomed. Awesome awesome place!
Chinthaka Weerappuli: Absolutely wonderful experience. The space is charming and the drinks are fantastic. Kevin is such a pleasure to chat with about his craft and his passion combining fragrance and cocktails. Highly highly recommend!

The Sugar House: what do users think?
Jadyn: So many drink options! A little overwhelming at first but it was nice to try some different drinks. I really enjoyed Pimm's Cup. Atmosphere is cool too.Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Randy S: Always great
AJ: Waited weeks to leave this review, but I can’t get over how bad the service was at the bar. Bartender literally threw our napkins at us, with no greeting… She had a terrible attitude the whole night, and then proceeded to offer me a higher priced liquor for my drink without mentioning the up charge. Seriously the worst experience I’ve had at a bar.
Tamika Davis: Nice intimate setting with very good drinks
Michael Simony: Extensive collection of solid choice alcohol with an amazing grouping to create terrific drinks. So sayeth the shepherd...
Alexandra Peterson: Amazing cocktails, super unique. Can’t wait to go back!
Jon Benedict: Brye was a delight. I'm not religious but I saw God in the drinks we were served. It was a revelation.
Mary Goebel: They make a mean cocktail! Let these experiences folks do their job and you won't be disappointed.
Desmond Cureton: They have good drinks and their popcorn is very good too.
Twonni Mathis: Amazing drinks, great vibe, and great people! Stopped here for drinks with friend while waiting on another order. I had the perfectly crafted Landing on Lavender drink and my friend was recommended the Bee Sting. Well balanced and unique drinks!
Stephen Wilke: Very good drinks but very hard to get a seat here and the service is SO SLOW. I'm not talkin "takin your time to mix an exceptional drink" slow, I'm talkin "20 minutes before you see a server" slow which is just unacceptable. I won't say the drinks made up for it, but 5 different cocktails and a full absinthe service did eventually arrive at our table and they were all dynamite, so at least the bartenders know what they're doing
Rebecca Ross: Was my pick for my birthday. We've never been here and took a chance on being a walk-in couple. Wow! This place was incredible. The atmosphere is calming, and taxidermy is fun. We were even lucky enough to be able to sit at the bar. The wealth of knowledge Tony had about the drinks, different liquors, and the history behind the labels was astonishing. Perfect birthday and great conversation! We will be back for sure to see Tony and let him make surprise drinks for us.
Zachary Coles: Booking at this place is insane. If you don’t get there early and talk to the host good luck. We talked to the host waited an hour and the time it took to walk over after the text we got about our table being ready (3 minutes maybe less) our reservation was gone and they said we had to wait another 45 minutes for a table. Was really excited to try this place but the customer service and satisfaction is not something that they prioritize here. It’s by the book and no exceptions. Wish I could’ve had the experience. Won’t be trying again.
Jill Zikewich: My experience has been terrible and I haven’t even been there yet!!! My husband made a reservation online for my birthday but inadvertently made it for a wrong date. He paid the $20/ person deposit as required and was unable to change the reservation online. After multiple phone calls, voicemails, emails and a FB message we got no responses. I called and spoke to a very RUDE manager named Kristin who proceeded to interrupt me three times when I was trying explain my situation. I finally had to snap at her to get her stop and listen. The reservation was amended. I don’t prefer to snap at anyone but being polite and patient didn’t get me anywhere. A light and breezy tone just wasnt cutting it. She proceeded to hang up on me also, very mature. I just hope the in-person experience is better. To be continued…
Michael Davis: Great service great cocktails
Lynn “Pencilmarks”: Fun cocktails, delicious and different. So many to choose from, you will definitely find one (or several) you like!
Anonda Crawford: Good food and drinks were on point.
Barry P: My favorite place to get a cocktail in Michigan. Smoked old fashion is unbelievably good!
Samantha Decker: Maybe the best cocktails I've ever had 😯 super-friendly attentive staff only problem was a parking but that's not their fault. 10/10 would go back
Chadd Corwin: Sultry, delicious, fun. Get here early because it will fill up, but that’s ok -it’s a rare place that feels just as comfortable if you’re by yourself or with 55 friends.
Kai Rod: Very very cool interesting place!! In the mood to try something different. This is the place! You will not be disappointed

Bad Luck Bar: what do users think?
Saad Gasgous: This is an awesome place! Love it!The selection of cocktails is more now with a wide variety, which is great, the people working there are super nice and helpful and professional. Definitely recommend this place
Julie Ross: Drinks are so fun. Yes, these are poprocks. Also special curtained entrance makes it feel cool. Open late
Angela V: Bartender Mario is PHENOMENAL! He was exceptional! Incredibly thorough, personable and friendly! He took the time to explain each drink we had questions on and honestly made the experience so enjoyable! Thank you Mario!
Felipe S.: Too expensive for what it is
aditya mohanty: Delicious, boozy and fancy looking . Everything a cocktail wants to be .
Tammy Barringer: Awesome experience
Justin Monroe: I have previously visited this establishment on one occasion. The atmosphere was enjoyable and the experience was good, but I was served the incorrect drink along with a few others. Despite this, we chose not to raise the issue as securing a table can be challenging.Recently, I was part of a group of 6 who dined at this location for a work event after dining at Prime + Proper. We had made a reservation in advance and were informed that we would be seated next as a table of 6 was finishing their meal. Unfortunately, the phone used for the reservation died, so we called from a different number to inform the staff of the change.During the call, a member of our party made an off-handed remark about the cold weather outside, which included the use of a mild expletive. This was not directed at the bar and was simply a general observation about the temperature. When we asked about the status of the table, we were told that our party would be seated soon. However, after waiting in the cold for an additional 20 minutes, a group of 4 arrived and were seated immediately. Upon mentioning our prior reservation and wait time to the host, we were told that our party would not be seated due to the use of an expletive on the phone. This seemed unfair and contradictory as we were previously told we would be seated soon.As a group who frequently dines at upscale restaurants and enjoys fine drinks during work events, we were disappointed with the way the situation was handled. The host's demeanor appeared to be unprofessional and overly authoritative, which left a negative impression on usOne may expect to encounter more capable hosts at a chain restaurant.
Ellie Fassoi: Cool speakeasy bar! The menu is so unique and interesting!
Adam Fisher: Awesome - just awesome
Amy Teske: LOVED the entire experience. Look forward to returning!Fab drinks, atmosphere and service
M: it really was an excellent experience. i was kind of skeptical about a rationed british naval rum and its price point, but after experiencing the other drinks and the bar as a whole, its probably amazing. the only thing i could even attempt to be a bother about is the especially crummy alley you have to endure to get to the door; beyond speakeasy.
Stefanie Greenberg: Walking down the alley way super scary lol but once you knock and they let you in....... enjoy behind the curtain. Good vibes♡♡We were welcomed with a hot toddy tea and an amazing mixologist. Every drink he suggested perfected. Music was an old school hip hop LOVED
Sarah Kelly: Great service and amazing drinks!
James Chandanais: Cool speakeasy style bar in the heart of downtown Detroit. The specials menu changes often to keep things fresh but the incredible bartenders are happy to make any of your favourite drinks.
Kavya Gorrepati: One of a kind experience with Amazing drinks and great customer service. The drinks are very pricey but worth the splurge. A great speakeasy cozy bar setup. The drinks are very presentable too making the experience memorable. Highly recommend the bar !! Loved my experience here.
manoj kumar: We went here for our anniversary date and lived the experience!! I would highly recommend trying this place out.
Sarah Kwon: Interesting drinks and I like that they offer you a snack pairing! =)
George Viju: One of the best bars in Michigan! It’s a bit pricey but totally worth the experience. Our bartender Luca was amazing and very knowledgeable regarding experimenting with various unique flavor profiles.
Rose Kanan: Amazing drinks and amazing service. I ordered the fire eater and it was hands down the best cocktail I have ever had. The presentation was gorgeous and the little side flairs they add to each one are amazing. The drink came with spicy chili tamarind candy and I could sit and eat a bowl of them. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and quick with service. Ordering off the menu is just as good. I also ordered a bourbon base old fashioned and it was perfect. This might be the most expensive drink you have had but it’s worth it for a splurge.
Edward Jackson: This place is great the service is excellent with a great cocktail menu. The venue is small and intimate but I love the exclusivity. The only thing I can complain about is the front receptionist can use better people skills. This bar is one of my favorites in the area I would recommend it.
Jeremy Yoder: Great unique cocktails, good service

Standby: what do users think?
Shaun Naidu: Visited Standby twice over the past year (travel from Western Canada). If I could have an evening out anywhere, this would be the place. Cocktails are on point, staff are great, and the music/vibe is unreal. I’ve travelled a lot and been to many cocktail bars, Standby is among the best. Can’t wait for the next visit to Detroit this weekend!
Martin Towne III: Definitely passes the vibe check. Josh is the man.
Kelly Fair: Omg it's always so amazing. The cocktails and apps can't be beat. Try the break even bottle sun-Thurs for sure. The staff is is so good.
Tim Wilson: Very cool speakeasy, tucked away at the end of "The Belt". Great drinks, nice unique atmosphere.
Scott Dodge: Absolutely terrible, reserved a table for 6, we sat down ordered drinks and after 20 mins we were told they needed one of our chairs and we asked why not take any one of the open chairs in the restaurant or find a chair in the basement and they would not, their solution was to put us at a smaller table and after we argued it they kicked us out, all because they did not have an extra chair and quite frankly I think because we were white and gay they did not want us there
Carlos Rosado: Tommy’s Margarita, best one ever!I like this bar, but it could use a tiny bit more light, feels too dark.
Denise Rouse: Great space and Excellent burgers. The old fashioned was spectacular.
Jaycee Tuttle: Love this place. Bartender josh 10/10
Jonathan Tasman: It's hip but packed, loud, and difficult to get quick service.
Michael Taillard: Exactly as the name implies: It's the place you go when you need an unplanned place to go. It's definitely good, but for the prices you can get better.... if you can get better. If you can't, then this is the best.
Joe Stierman: My favorite cocktail bar. Approachable prices for how high quality they are. Menu has great descriptions for each drink in three words each. Cool vibe.
Katie Karana: The best drinks in the D! I loved how each drink was categorized and they are all well balanced. Tasty food as well!!
Steve Kaudle: A large menu of innovative cocktails. Great vibe. Fantastic bartenders. Hands down, the best bar in Detroit.
Lakyra Shackelford: This is one of my favorite places to introduce new friends. Great cocktails, great food!
Lemuria Fashions: The drinks, interior design & bar tenders were amazing but the GM was rude and had a attitude very unprofessional for the space
Ian Ross: Love this place! I always seem to get an outstanding cocktail to go with my meal every time I come in! Don’t sleep on the wings. Ask the bartender for a “cold front” shot. So good!
Megan Trantham: Went to the standby for date night and my husband took one drink of his cocktail and had a piece of glass in his mouth. We informed the server and the bartender said “that’s not glass, it’s a piece of ice” LOL it didn’t melt in the 5 minutes it was in my hand. They never apologized, offered to remake the drink or took it off of the tab until we had asked for it. Management never appeared at the table or anything. Do not recommend going there.
aditya mohanty: Food was great but not well planned. Maybe for just that day . But all else was okay . Service was slow . So slow they took 45 mins for 2 drinks after ordering .
Denise M: Went there on a Saturday night and it was really busy but were seated quickly at the bar. I enjoyed watching the bartender make all those different drinks! I had the Dolce Rosa and it was delish. My friend had the Penicillin and that was good too. Good atmosphere and music. I'll be back!
Chyna Racine: We made reservations maybe an hour before getting here. We came here on a Staurday night and it was a decent crowd but we didn't have to wait to be seated. The dining space is pretty small, so some of the tables are less than an arm length away. Our server greeted us promptly and was very friendly and personable. We were pretty hungry, so we ordered a decent amount of food. The food came out pretty quickly and everything was really good! We especially enjoyed the Korean wings and coconut calamari. The cucumber salad was refreshing, and the Arancini was very yummy. My husband said his burger was a tad salty, but I think he liked it. The Jalapeños cheese dip for the pretzels was a little too thick for dipping, but we liked the fresh homemade pretzels. I really enjoyed my mushroom tostados, and the dessert was fine, but probably not anything I would order again because it was a bit too dry for my liking.Atmosphere: Trendy bar Vibes. Music is pretty loud, so be prepared to speak up to be heard. The lights went out at 10 pm, so it was pretty dark, but we survived. They do validate parking, so that was appreciated. All and all we enjoyed the food and good service so we will be back.
dorsey vital: Fun and good DJ

The Skip: what do users think?
Lauren F: Espresso martini from Josh was the best!! Jay makes a killer strawberry marg, too. Hands down best cocktails downtown.
Scott: Prices were reasonable and the pours were generous😊.
J Mouton: Fir time, chill atmosphere
Dimo Kallis: loved the alley vibe and the frozen drinks were SO good
Brand Blouse-Moore: This gentrified alleyway has become a great place to meet ppl. downtown during the summer; strangers & otherwise. The Skip serves up a tasty frozen take on the Irish coffee.
Stefana Valpotic: drinks are mediocre, service 0/10
Shivonna Cadwell: The bar tender was a mixologist. I asked for a strawberry lemonade tequila. He didn't have strawberry and mixed something that was amazing with raspberry and tequila. Presentation was amazing as well. Dying to get back to try them again.
Jeff Scheumann: Great place for warm nights out with friends
eric Farrell: Unburdened my incredibly strange and sad week on the two bartenders today. Thank you for listening and being real. And that’s the overall vibe, real people. Great piña. 🙏🏼
Nikia Banks: Very nice vibe
violet john: horrible execution of a great idea. the it’s always sunny in philadelphia drink was terribly bitter and $14 for a short glass that was only 1/2 full and mostly ice. also, the snake plants are ugly.
Thadd F.: Great place. Great drinks.
Samuel Sabo: Pricey drinks, long wait times, but the ambiance is nice
David Cole: Awesome bar. They always have really fun drinks.
George Viju: Small but cozy Christmas pop up bar with some good Christmas cocktails and a good Christmas vibe! It’s a must visit during the holiday season .
Kavya Gorrepati: Nice seasonal cocktails. The place is packed and almost always has a line to be seated. Good place to go for drinks with friends.
Yanely Ramirez: Came here for a drink after having it recommended to me. They have a list of premade drinks that are themed. It has a cute vibe inside with cool colors. I got the cucumber margarita and it was delicious! I will definitely come here again.
Joe Trompen: Neat drink menu
scottaj65: Went here for a couple drinks and the staff was great. Drinks were also good.
Laura Castro: Buen ambiente, buen servicio y rápida comida!
Tee Cakes: Make sure you have your ID because they check no matter your how many gray hairs you have.Cool vibrant spot in the alley. Drinks are usually good. Food isn't sold so grab a hotdog from the cart or pizza from Mootz.
