Detroit Vegan Soul: what do users think?
Lucrecia Richardson: I went to the location on grand avenue. We had the oyster mushroom Po boy with the sweet potato fries, macaroni and cheese and corn muffins. The food was excellent. The sandwich was delicious. Everything had to be done on line, but was easy to navigate. I was given a time I was suppose to have my order delivered and it came earlier than expected. I really enjoyed the food and loved that sandwich. I wish I had more time to experience the menu, but I’m from out of town.
T Tyson: Best vegan food I've ever had, but it didn't keep me full long. I wish the portion sizes were bigger.
Lawnda Boston: The best vegan burger and Mac and cheese nice and hot a loyal customer for life
Demetrius Bagley: Tasty soul food gone vegan in this cozy spot over on the east side. Definitely will appeal to a variety of palettes. Be sure to check out the desserts also.
Mila Johnson: The food here is great. The smoothies are my favorite. Even if you are not a vegan. I highly recommend this place.
Mikka Taplin: They didn't answer their phone. I had to continue to wait outside to pick my order up
Conor Dietrich: First off, this is hands down some of the best soul warming vegan food out there. Mac n cheese was amazing and the "catfish" sandwich tasted so legit. I ordered online NYE and it was missing an item, but the restaurant was already closed. I'm super forgetful so didn't remember to get it taken care of until now. They promptly gave me a refund for the missing item and were super pleasant to deal with! Great place!
Claire Minneboo: Absolutely love this place. Great food, fast service.
Jennifer Beitzel: Favorite vegan place in Detroit! Super fast service, very friendly, and excellent smoothies!
Shawn McDonald: Food was great. The sweet potatoes were delicious. Definitely will visit again.
LeAndra Nixon: I tried Detroit Vegan Soul for the first time and was delicious. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I could be if all vegan food tasted that good.
La Re (Intricate Empress): Very impressed! The okra stew was awesome and the kale salad was phenomenal. I will be back very soon!
Annette Hannah: Good was good.
Isis Jones: I’m truly at a disbelief at the terrible experience I have received at your west/grand river location.I drove all the way from west Bloomfield and arrived at the location at 5:20 pm. I walk In, proceed to order. And I was told I couldn’t order by Lilly, I asked why...She states their not taking orders , and the orders stop at 5:30.I said cool I’ll order on my phone I have 10 mins. Then the lady with the half orange hair(refused to give me her name)over heard our conversation and yells NO! Kitchen closed at 5:15.Now I’m standing there looking confused. because I’m receiving different information from two different employees. And I know I’m being lied to.I said well I’m here, and it’s 5:20 you don’t close until 6 PM how are you telling me I can’t order? She proceeds to tell me with a nonchalant attitude there’s nothing she can do the kitchen is closed. So I walk out, sit in my car for a second and then I walk right back in and tell them listen I’m hungry the restaurant doesn’t close until 6 PM!I arrived 40 minutes before closing this doesn’t make any sense.By this time ANOTHER customer walks in and he’s agreeing with me like so we cant order what is the purpose Of the doors being unlocked and the restaurant and not closing until six?So the lady with the orange hair goes and grabs the cook from the kitchen to talk to me(I have no idea why.)(Now I’m in the lobby ambushed with three employees telling me I can’t order And I shouldn’t be in here. Also another employee was literally sleeping on the bench, legs kicked up since my arrival. let me not forget that.)He comes to the lobby of your restaurant and tries to justify why I can’t order. Telling me he has eight orders and he’s the only cook as if that’s any of my business!!!! And how unprofessional smhI told him I’m a customer and I don’t care!I arrived 40 minutes before closing! and I’m hungry ...I asked him what am I supposed to do?his suggestion was for me to go to Burger King! I COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS MAN SAID THAT! He literally said that out of his mouth. My jaw dropped to the ground.Im in a ALL VEGAN restaurant! talking to a VEGAN COOK! and he suggest that I go to Burger King up the street! The Disrespect!!!!!I am hungry! I CHOSE Detroit vegan soul for dinner. For what?I wasted my gas,my time and energy by coming to a restaurant where employees can make executive decisions and practically close the restaurant down a hour before closing! As a business owner I would be furious! because I know for sure in that moment they turned away TWO customers! imagine how many people were before me, and after me.. there was still 40 minutes left! nothing takes that long to be cooked there! The public needs to know.I will report this type of behavior to the Better Business Bureau because this is ridiculous!I’m on my new journey..being a vegan and The service I received was so discouraging, disrespectful, and uncalled for. I came here to eat, isn’t that what you want?I frequent the East location and that was my first time coming on the west side and the disrespect I received from the girl in the orange hair and the cook by telling me to go to Burger King is crazy and sad. I had to leave there hungry and upset.
Rodney Jones: Great food
Linda Honey: Loved the meal
Karla Ridley: What a blessing good food always
Mary Austin: Although I haven't been here in awhile everything they serve is absolutely luscious. A vegan food paradise!
Kristin Tencza: I love Detroit Vegan Soul. It's one of the best vegan options we have in Michigan by far. The food is superb and the staff is always friendly and kind. I've never been disappointed by my service or meal at DVS and I've been going for years!
L: Philly cheese steak is perfect. Honestly food is amazing.
M K: The food is very inconsistent. My first time the food was phenomenal. But the more often I come the worst and worst the food & service is. Considering I’m literally ordering the exact same thing because my entire house hold is Vegan & my baby’s love it I make the hour drive because it WAS worth it. We most recently went & the food was DISGUSTING. The soul food platter had NO SOUL. Mac & Cheese - cheese less watery and loose. Red beans & rice OVERLY SALTED. Candied yams - no candy , dry & tasteless. The corn bread was harder than a hockey puck. And the catfish is HORRIBLE. From the texture to the taste and I’m an experienced Soy Tofu user. The only good thing we’re the collard greens but I did order 2 soul food platters 2 sides of candied yams ,2 sides of Mac & cheese, 2 sides of collard greens, 2 sides catfish & 3 additional biscuits. I have been calling & trying to speak with a manager but can only ever get in touch with “Lily” who tells me no matter the time of day that her manager isn’t available or I “just missed her” when I’ve called & left my number for a week straight. I’m outraged.

Seva Detroit: what do users think?
Judy Salens: 4pm few customers and yet had to go get someone to wait on us after 20 minutes of waiting. Obviously no one cares. Ford and GM friends don’t waste your time coming here after work.
Lilith: Took my grandmother out for an early dinner. Service was pretty bad, there were very little people dining and it still took us about 30 minutes for anyone to come take our order after they seated us. Staff was unfriendly and just inattentive. I almost walked out due to lack of service. I feel bad, I usually really enjoy the experience I have here so it’s a shame this one was so bad. But really, no one came up to us for just about 30 minutes. No drink order, nothing. Left feeling very confused and unhappy.
Mary Bonner: The food and service has been great every time we have come here. Just wished the place was open on Sundays.Food: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More
Lloyd Banks: Excellent food soooooooo incredible!
Karen Angelisa Shaw: It was a beautiful day in Detroit and after I finished my meeting. I was hungry and knew I wanted something full of flavor and delicious. I thought of Seva’s. Although vegetarian it really doesn’t matter because they really do take their time and use the best ingredients.I ordered the red lentil soup and fish sandwich made from marinated tofu in a home spice blend. The hostess, Brandon was very polite when sitting me in the outside dining area. He knew I wanted to sit in the sun. My waitress, Bree was so sweet and informative. She answered all of my questions and I was happy with her suggestion of soup and sandwich Keeping it 💯 the Long Beach was not satisfying 😎Vegetarian options: It’s a vegetarian restaurant 🤫Parking: There is a parking garage if you pass Seva’s and turn on John R or Brush street there is immediately an alley way with parking like $8 for an hour and I think less than $20 for a day.Wheelchair accessibility: It’s flat no ramps needed.
Samantha Lopez: Vegetarian options: Vegan options available :)Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Brooke Langley: First time, We have Gluten and Dairy Allergies in our Party. We were able to ask for the GF Menu and order off there. We had the Lemonade, Nachos, Jambalaya , General Taos, Chili Cheese Fry's and the French dip.Parking: We parked on the Street, you paid with the meter, We found SEVA around the corner.Dietary restrictions: We had gluten and Dairy free in our Party, The menu was easy to use.
Chitra Patil: Vegan food of different types. The appetizers are all great. The entrees may be hit or a miss. Many drink choices. Highly recommend in Detroit mid-town.Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options with tofu, tempeh, and vegetables.Dietary restrictions: Diary free and even gluten free.
Tia Thompson: Absolute best! Every time we have dinner here it is delicious. Great atmosphere and service.Recommended dishes Black Bean & Sweet Potato Quesadilla, Mac and Cheese, Yam Fries …More
VIVEK PURANIK: Good Vegetarian restaurant in Detroit. Tasty dishes and great staff. Has limited Indian dishes but the fusion is good. the location is not that great but ambience is good.
IU Roederer: Great place to grab a vegan meal before a show. Had been to the Ann Arbor restautant several times - the Detroit one is equally worth the visit!Dietary restrictions: Lots of vegan options.
Detroit Red: Recommended dishes Yam FriesMore
Sterling Derian: Food was great, but the service was so remarkably terrible I will definitely not return. If you like to dine in for 3 hours at a time this is the place for you ;)Food: 4/5|Service: 1/5|Atmosphere: 3/5 …More
Billy Van Bael: Service was SO SLOW . Waitress was obviously high and didn’t know what was going on. Definitely do not recommend if you don’t want to sit in a restaurant for 3 hours. Never cleared our plates took 20 plus minutes just to bring a bottle of wine. Couldn’t imagine how long it would have taken for a cocktail. Not to mention it was 10 minutes plus to even get greeted at all. Probably the worst service I’ve had ever.
james jones: I'm nowhere close to being vegan or vegetarian, but their options are some of the best I've had. The customer service is great, and I enjoy the ambiance. Their yam fries are fried to perfection with a tasty sauce to go with them. The French dip sandwich is my favorite, but I also love the general tso's cauliflower! Can't say enough good things about this place.
Josh Levey: Had lunch at Seva. Love the plentiful vegan and vegetarian options - almost everything can be made vegan. Nice outdoor shaded patio seating area (not technically dog friendly per a sign on the door, but its a nice space and should be).Ordered the vegan nachos and Caesar side salad to start - both were delicious. For mains ordered the jambalaya and the vegan black bean and sweet potato quesadilla - we felt that both were good but not great. Enjoyed our time here, will come and try other entrees (some of the sandwiches looked great) and would recommend.
Darryl Carter: Good place to eat with great atmosphere, excellent food choices if you like vegetarian options
Aaron Tate: Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5More
Joe Mares: Lovely menu, wonderful serviceFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 4/5Recommended dishes Jambalaya, Black Bean & Sweet Potato Quesadilla, General TSO's Cauliflower …More
Jerri Robinson: I ordered the General TSO Cauliflower yesterday. First of all the portion size has drastically decreased, on top of that it wasn't cooked like they use to make it. Plus they had the nerve to charge the same price as last year! They use to have very good food! 👎Food: 1/5 …More

Lauren M: SO GOOD. OMG. Love the Wonder Woman Burrito.I've eaten in, gotten it delivered ( when they had this available), and got take out... every single time has been great.I wish they still continued to do delivery orders and had more locations / open on weekends because I would eat there all of the time.
Jakob Senyko: Gave me food poisoning never going back. Had their chicken biggies burrito.
Ramiere: good fresh food and customer service
Brittany Kelleher: Pricey, but quality ingredients. Very refreshing. Can’t go wrong with your basic Greek salad.
Ron Reed: A great healthy choice for downtown lunch.Food: 5/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More
Christopher Wiley: Super friendly staff with fresh ingredients
Taylor Green: The honey oat latte is outta sight!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
S Watts: Nice big healthy salads!! The only problem is it's only downtown and not throughout the city!
L S: Food is always fresh and service is always fast and friendly.
keith wisdom: Gd. Reduce price overcharge for individual items. Salad should cost no more than 12.Greens are cheap. 8 for small bowl of greens, they should give you double amt and you should have a to go box if you spend 16 for a salad. Curry tuna is the best other then that my home salads taste better. They treat.
Audrey S.: Fantastic selection of fresh and delicious salad toppings, cozy ambience, and very friendly staff. However ... the server (who was very polite and cheerful) added more toppings than I asked for (I would ask what something was and she just added to salad, for a $1/topping). What was meant to be a simple mid-day work-week bite to eat turned into a $23 salad that was too rich and sauced to eat. The cost system for build your own salads was deceptively organized, and not very transparent. I would revisit, but I'd definitely protest if they added things I didn't ask for. Live and learn!
Margaret Fikany: Easily the best spot to grab a salad downtown. I get it about two times a week. I can’t get enough!!!!
Victor Signorelli: Driving from north to south of the city for work. Never been to Detroit so wanted to check out the stadiums. This place was great to grab something quick and healthy. Lots of great options. The Maurice salad was amazing as well as the dressing that came with it. You can eat in or take it to go.
Emily Wash: If you have an allergy of any kind or are worried about cross-contamination DO NOT GO HERE!I have a severe tree nut allergy and ordered a smoothie—when making the smoothie, the staff went off of the recipe and added granola because they were missing an ingredient. This granola happened to have pecans in it—the nut I am most allergic to.Anyways, after realizing I was having an anaphylactic reaction and urgently needed hospital attention. We promtly left, I ran over to CVS down the block, they helped to administer my Epipen, monitor my state, and called an ambulance. The owner was initially very kind and understanding at first. As a mother herself, she said she understood what it would feel like to see your child almost die (I was with my mom at the restaurant). She offered to help with the hospital and ambulance bills, or give me an Amazon gift card…I said that’s great, but I just want to make sure this never happens at your restaurant ever again. She said she wanted to meet in person to chat about better protocols and we agreed. When we were supposed to meet the following week, she went dark on us and we never heard from her again. The total for the hospital bills was $400 for the visit and $1,200 for the ambulance—this cost sucked (obviously) but the thing that left the worst taste in my mouth was that the owner left us on read. For my sake, don’t go here. It’s overpriced, the staff is not friendly, and they put random ingredients in the food. In my case, it almost killed me. Don’t let this be you!
Ali Tiktib علي تكتب: Good for first time date, couples and groups. Their prices are unbelievably convenient. I think everything is under 4 dollars, literally everything, although the servings are smaller.
Crystal Watkins: I get the Maurice Salad, with added ingredients, FABULOUS
Saad Gasgous: Doesn't get old! Great make your own salads with ton of options! Healthy healthy!
Jason S.: Las Bear with chorizo and jalapeno was life changing
Erica Hill: Great salad but the times posted don't always coincide with when they really open. I work downtown and have limited time to wait. They are sweet but I would recommend adjusting the open time if it can't be upheld. Today for example I arrived at 11:05 to a locked door and ended up walking next door to a restaurant that was open.
Amanda Foltz: Food is a overpriced and the quality has gone down recently. The chicken they use in their salads tastes canned. Has a bland taste. Paid $17 for a salad that filled about up about half of the bowl. Sadly, I won't be returning.

Cass Cafe: what do users think?
MaNazah Chandler: The vegan options I got from Cass Cafe were so filling and flavorful! I got the stuffed pepper with squash (pictured) and a lentil walnut burger to-go. I absolutely loved the local art on the walls. I even recognized one of the artist because we attended Wayne State University (WSU) together.I'm sad they're now closed for business, yet they were definitely a staple in Midtown Detroit. Thanks to the waitress for taking the picture of my friend and I!The flies and gnats made it hard to enjoy my food peacefully, yet I do understand how hard it is to keep them out.Well wishes to all on your new journey!F, 7.8.2022
Ma Serrano: Sad it is closing forever 😞
Delores Lyons: Love, love, LOVED their Tofu Scramble! So very sorry they're permanently closing at the end of July, 2022. 😥
Marcus chenevix: Egg was uncooked and sausages frozen... I understand that there is a short staffing problem everywhere, but you have to adapt (maybe shrink the menu? Maybe reduce capacity?).
Micki Miller: We’ve always loved Cass Cafe and enjoyed the food and drinks in Midtown. Great regular spot to eat and drink.Just make sure to see that gratuity is included in the price. The menu items have declined ever-so-slight since they updated about a year ago, but it’s still good and worth a try!Edit: bike racks are available on the south side of the building. It’s a small “sidewalk alley” with four(?)ish racks
Wensdy Von B: Sorry Cass Cafe, but you've changed. My family and I were there yesterday and ordered four different meals, the Monte Christo, Chicken Chilaquiles, Chicken and Waffles and Eggs Benedict. They were all terrible. I don't think I can recall ever having a worse meal at a restaurant ever. The chilaquiles were a bizarre pile of nacho chips with gristly chicken buried inside. The eggs benedict lacked canadian bacon and hollandaise sauce — just two lonely eggs dwarfed on a dry English muffin. The chicken and waffles were dry with bones, and my husband’s monte christo was inedible. The table next to us sent two dishes back. This is nothing like the Cass Cafe we remember from many, many visits over the decades. I know places are short staffed right now, but please change the menu to reflect your limitations. We left literally feeling sick to our stomachs. So disappointed because it was a special occasion and this is where we chose to eat of all the places in Detroit. Not to mention we waited a really long time for our meals. I remember saying "hopefully the food is so good it's worth the wait." Not. Don't eat here unless they announce a new menu, chef or change in ownership. Cass Cafe you truly need to give some sort of explanation for this. I'm really sorry to leave this review but it was that bad.
Ms Jen: It's unfortunate that a place that is close to a college does not welcome the traffic that a university all but guarantees.I will gladly spend my money elsewhere.
Deborah Butler: Staff was friendly. The food was good and hot when served. We will be going back
Nicole Freeman: Love the service. But the fish that I asked to fry light. Was fried hard. Was a lil disappointed. But I always love Cass Cafe.
Clayton Ford: Great service, space and the art are cool. Noisy though (wasn't that busy - lunch/brunch) and the food was mediocre.Dine in: Yes Outdoor seating: Yes Curbside pickup: No …More
Yelena Selektor: Food was very bad. Mushroom soup was watery and full of pepper. Salad is tasteless. I am not coming back.
Tim Burke: I lived in Cass Corridor growing up and on and off for 48 years.Cass Cafe has been very good to me good food good friends. Great atmosphere. Shout out to Dave Robert's for showing my artwork herecame for the total experience. The posthumous art show for Detroit artist Rico Africa, and the beer battered fish and chips.Sorry no photos. I did create a live video on Facebook live.🍟
Morgan: used to really love their food but it seems that it has gotten worse. Their lentil burger just tasted like a bean paddy, and their vegan style wings are no longer Quorn but poorly fried cauliflower, with batter chunks all in the sauce and none on the actual cauliflower.
Jeff Nolan: I've been eating here for like 20 years and today when I ordered a chicken and waffle sandwich and ahi tuna salad the menu was different. My chicken and waffles was seasoned wings with all of these bones inside and 2 sort of moist waffles. Additionally the fries seemed... Different in some way. It's possible that I forgot to order a side of the garlic aioli, but it's equally possible that the new server I had never seen before had forgot, or that it's also not on the menu. Who could really say?Google still indicates the previous menu at the time of this post, I don't see a new menu. Maybe it's just me and I have bad taste and don't know how to use the internet, but it doesn't matter bc I'm just not going to come here any longer.
Erik Mylenek: Fair beer prices and good service. Food always tasty. Gallery quality art always on display.
Mackenzie Potter: Ordered fried vegetables. Got this. Not sure what this is but was inedible. Also when food was brought out, bugs that were flying followed. The food was mostly inedible and disgusting. Pretty sure the vegetables were rotten that they served us and the onion ring batter was raw. And then the bill was $50 for three appetizers that were all not edible. Still tipped the waiter good even though his service was lacking. Just save your time and money and don’t eat here.
artsydoll - Kelly Parker: Ambience was great, food was okay!
Ronda Hart: The best lentil soupDine in: Yes Outdoor seating: No Takeout: Yes Curbside pickup: Yes …More
Jennifer Chalom: The food was good. But it was not busy at all when I went, and the service was one of the slowest I've ever witnessed. It took FOREVER to just get a quesadilla. The server just kept forgetting about us.
Steve Hunton: Was there Sat evening. They seem understaffed, which seems to be the norm these days, so I get it. Food is basic, service was slow. My first time there, plenty of other options in Mid-town.
Lauraine Andalora: We absolutely loved Cass Cafe! Great food and great staff. We will definitely return!

Nick Horlock: Definitely coming back here! The restaurant is beautifully designed, delicious food, and some of the best service we have had in a very long time. We ordered the lamb chops, filet, eggplant toast and maitake mushrooms for appetizers (incredible!)As we were leaving the owner came to the table and said we needed to try their signature trileces dessert, and he gave it to us for free! My wife’s grandfather favorite desert was this, so it plucked on the heart strings. Then Alex the manager and incredible server for us gave us a wonderful gift (image attached). We will be coming back here with friends very soon!
MT: Classy restaurant in downtown Detroit. Albanian / Serbian and other Mediterranean flavored menu is not one to forget.Great variety of appetizers, salads and main entrees and side dishes to satisfy anyone. We had a great experience. Samantha, our server did a great job of explaining the menu. Thank you chef Nick and Besa!

Tam F: The flavors were popping in my mouth an hour after I finished!! Everything I ate was so good. Our host Ride was well informed about the menu and made excellent recommendations and took very good care of us. Whoever was bar tending made me the most delicious dirty martini. We split the Sable Fish and Prawns. CHEF'S KISS 😘!! I can't wait to go back again!!

Mohammed uddin: If you're looking for a fantastic dining experience, Besa is definitely a great place to go. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed with the atmosphere of the restaurant. It was warm, welcoming and perfect for a romantic night out with my partner. The service at Besa was impeccable. Our server was attentive and friendly, and made sure that we had everything we needed. The drinks were absolutely delightful, with a wide variety of options to choose from. I had a cocktail that was expertly crafted and perfectly balanced. It was evident that the bartenders were highly skilled and passionate about their craft. The food at Besa was outstanding. We started with the calamari, which was crispy and perfectly cooked. For our entrees, we had the lamb chops and the steak. Both were cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully. The sides were also excellent, with a variety of unique and delicious options to choose from. We finished off our meal with the chocolate cake, which was rich and decadent.Overall, I highly recommend Besa to anyone looking for a great dining experience. The food was fantastic, the drinks were delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect for a date night. The service was also top-notch, making the entire experience truly memorable. I will definitely be back!
Melissa Behring: Excellent options for small plate, sharing and or dining alone, and or in a large group or a couple. Their service was excellent and they had an amazing wine selection as well. Our server was attentive and we were able to get in and out well before our need to be at the little Caesars arena for a very popular concert later that night. It’s only a 15 to 20 minute walk or a 7 to 10 minute Uber ride depending upon your spry-ness.
Jill Zachmann: Immature Upscale Dining.Upscale dining is not only about the quality of food, it includes ambience and the overall dining experience. My husband made reservations a week prior making note that it was my birthday and a special occasion. We were greeted by a host and seated at the smallest bistro table in the restaurant near the Front door located in the bar area. We asked if they could provide us with a more suitable table for this occasion. We were told unfortunately nothing was available but they could accommodate us to a bar high top (As of the bar was a better option!?!). We decided to leave and book a reservation at a more seasoned establishment. For a dining experience costing $300 plus this is far from acceptable and this experience speaks for itself.Their menu clearly states, “Our guests before ourselves”, however I experienced quite the opposite.
Vignesh Venkatesan: One of the best food in Michigan. Roasted Maitake mushroom is my favorite.
Sharon Jones: Do not be dismayed by the well written menu. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance. The food was very good and the service was even better. The parking was in a lot across the street but Besa offers a small validation fee. Ava was our hostess and she was very accommodating. She even made me a special drink! I ordered the chicken breast dish with some moderate changes and the tres leches cake... Delish!10 out of 10 recommend

Loreta Geneviciute: Amazing restaurant ! My husband and I visited this place September of 2022 and we both agreed that we will come back to Detroit just to eat at this place again. We love all the food we had and drinks were delicious! If you ever visit Detroit this place should be at the top of your restaurant list.
Stephanie O'Callaghan: Since it opened, it’s been one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Always meets or exceeds expectations. Love the vibe, the decor, etc and more importantly love the food. It’s fresh and creative, flavorful and doesn’t sit heavy. I like the Mediterranean vibe but they don’t limit themselves creatively. The pastas are always phenomenal. The veggie dishes delicious and thoughtful. I love sitting at the chefs counter and watching them work the open fire and coal oven spaces. Great beverage list too! Highly recommend. I always stop here when I’m in the area.
Alex: One of the best dining experiences I've had in Michigan. Started off with the cocktail called immediate detour. I was pleasantly surprised how tasty the drink was given I'm usually underwhelmed by restaurant cocktails. The food was amazing. I was able to try the green salad, roasted broccoli, roasted pasnips, roasted potatoes, cacio e pepe, chittara, and beef tartare. All were excellent, but the pastas (cacio e pepe and chittara) and the roasted potatoes were my favorite. I tried the horchata tres leche cake for dessert. I've never tried this style of cake before and I wasn't a big fan, but it was good to try something new. I also tasted a bit of the pecan pie -- highly recommended. Looking forward to trying this place out again.

Todays Present: This was a perfect dining experience. Ryan is the best waiter. After coming here again, I will request him every time. He gives excellent recommendations and his descriptions ensure there are no surprises. I loved everything we had here. The sweet potato pasta and the mushrooms were my absolute favorite. The broccoli was great, but very spicy. The duck on toast was divine! The tri tip and the raspberry tart were just okay (I wouldn't order again). I enjoyed having the dining room reservation, the communal reservation would be too loud/close and not my type of experience. The scallops were spicy but irresistible. The hake is the only thing I’ve ever tried here that did not meet the standards of the rest of the food. It was mushy and inedible. I wasn’t told if this was a fluke or by design. But I would not recommend the hake.
Sanam Sharif: Good place. Good food. Good service. Family style dining. Has a good vibe and ambiance.
E Vaughan: Have been here several times, but this time, my daughter, who is highly allergic to tree nuts, came along. I was able to notify Selden Standard at the time of making the reservation. The staff got the message and were ready for us. The staff was extremely careful and accommodating. We are grateful for their kind attention.Recommended dishes Lamb Chops …More
Juliette Okotie-Eboh: Rude manager and hostess staff— I have dined there frequently over the years and always had a great experience until today. Their behavior was racist and very upsetting— I will never return!! Must be new management — I did not see the folks who were always gracious and welcoming. Our server was fine but I was throughly insulted, especially by the manager. What a disappointment.
DCHS Library: Best food that I have eaten in Detroit since we moved here a decade and a half agoVegetarian options: celery root parmigiana is amazing

Nicole T: Am I the only one confused by all these 4 star reviews?? I think it’s by childless millennial hipsters who think they are dining in an upscale Manhattan atmosphere. I found NOTHING about this place appealing - except the waitress who was very kind and attentive. The menu is extremely overpriced with froufrou stuff and small portions. And how are charging over $20 for vegetables?? $18 for some cooked cheese? Tiny little portions . We had 3 “‘meals” and shared 3 appetizers and still weren’t full. To top it off, I got extreme food poisoning from there. I don’t mind paying more for a good dinner, but at least include some sides and have more salad choices. Not very impressed in the least bit. I’d rather spend my money elsewhere where at least you get good portion size- and not dishes that were created for someone’s Instagram “aesthetic”Vegetarian options: More vegetarian options than actual meat
Bridget Finn: All time favorite forever. ♥️
Nicole Castro: Great food and service. It can be pretty loud, so if you are sensitive, you may want to consider going at off hours. The tres leches cake was wonderful.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 4/5Recommended dishes Oysters on the Half Shell …More

William Vosotros: Food was wonderful. The fennel & endive salad was good. Cacio e Pepe was great! The lamb ribs were soft and cooked really well. The agrodolce and lemon yogurt works really well with the lamb. The green sauce elevates the grilled chicken flavor. Both the cod & bass were awesome! Overall it was a truly wonderful gastronomic experience.Parking: Limited parking on the side back of the restaurant but lots of parking on the street as well as the vacant lot on the front of restaurant.
Josh Levey: Excellent farm to table dining in midtown Detroit. Food is very high quality and unique, with interesting, distinct and delicious flavor pairings. Cocktails and drinks are also great. Several vegan and vegetarian options. We ordered the roasted carrots, the roasted broccoli, the roasted mushrooms, the cacio e pepe and the chittara. Everything was amazing. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive, bringing us fresh plates and utensils after every course. Great, refined dining experience

Detroit Vegan Soul West: what do users think?
Life After Los Angeles Job Corps: I had the cheese burger (bout 2 years ago) w/coconut bacon and was impressed. So, Wednesday I sparked up ah taste for it and planned my day to drive from bloomfield to the location (bout 30 minutes away) and back to bloomfield (East Hills Middle school) for a musically. The voicemail state Their business hours-One of the days being Wednesday 12-6p.. So, I went on the site to order.. The toast site stated:" Online ordering NOT available." So I'm like:"What! Naw.. Something wrong... I'll still go cuz I can order on the kiosk.." Put the directions in G-Maps.. It stated:"Vegan soul is closed today." So I took that as a hint to go to a vegan spot closer to the middle school.. But, I irritated cuz the info was misleading and I had my palette and pocket set-up for that burger. So, Thursday came.. I place the burger in my cart and I'm like where's the coconut bacon burger.. Didn't see it.. Selected cheese burger cuz I'm like maybe it come on there... (My battery dying... I'll be back 😁)
Aly: My niece REALLY liked the catfish sandwich and the Mac and cheese (as you can see, that didn't make it home). The catfish sandwich had a LOT of flavor, and as someone who has only had tofu once and didn't like the texture, they way the cook the tofu at Vegan Soul is AMAZING. I definitely see myself having that sandwich AGAIN!Food: 5/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5Recommended dishes Mac and Cheese, DVS Burger, Catfish Tofu Sandwich, Catfish …More
Inner Beauty Life !: Wow! Finger licking good! The Soul-food Platter and fried catfish! So delicious! Thank you for preparing such an amazing dish topped with outstanding customer service!❤️ You rock! Will definitely share and return to try all your tasteful dishes😋~MJ
Joe Z: Just great, honestly...some items were a bit salty but thats OK. Cant believe that was my first time trying DVS
Tracey: The oyster mushrooms and Mac n cheez is so good!!The restaurant is clean and the food and the soursop smoothie Taste very good
Sheena Jackson: Is this place ever open. Three weeks in a row the hours of operation has changed.
Mark Rauls: Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5More
Sophia “SnowSoFine” Williams: Good food. But the meals is too high for the small portions.. Updating my review. Today is my second time in to see if anything change because this the closes vegan restaurant near me. Well I got my food fast because they keep food in warmers. U still do not get a good portion. And, some of my meal was hot and some was cold. They gave me cold Mac and cheese, smh. Food not as good as the first time. So I'm done, not coming back.. This place use to jump. Not anymore and I can see why.
D 19: Ok in a pinch, but not as fresh as it used to be.
YahDaughter: The owner is extremely overwhelmed & overworked. She needs to stop & restart before she loses business. Her set up makes it extremely difficult to place a order & she doesn't seem to care about the inconvenience. I won't be back.
youngchachidaboi: Hands down, not even close... the best tasting food I've had since being in Michigan. Will definitely be back before I head back to Ohio. I had the "Catfish" Tofu Sandwich (Sandwich only), Mac-n-cheese, Oyster Mushroom Po Boy, Collard Greens, and Red Velvet Pound Cake...Very good food!!!!
Mr. B. Fullwood: Food: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5More
Katrina B: Came in from out of town passing through, I ordered okra, yams, cornbread and peach cobbler, none of which was fresh, I couldn’t even bite into my cornbread. The pricing does not match the portion sizes. Taste is mediocre at best, would not recommend. Would have been nice to get the same food all the other reviewers raved about.
Aiden: Best vegan food in Detroit, by far. The catfish sandwich was incredible. Everything was warm, neatly prepared, and super flavorful.
Miranda Smith: I had the PoBoy Sandwich with a side of collard greens and I was surprised by how good they both were, well especially the sandwich because (Moy Hair Essentials) is right down the street. Its nice to have a vegan restaurant right in the neighborhood
Cynthia Mills: Love it and so do my body it does a body good!😋
Calvin Westbrook: I’m here from another state looking for vegan food. It’s not easy nevertheless but if you’re not open please be more mindful of ppl time and effort to come to dine just to find a hand note of new hours and you’re closed. Take the time out to post on google so that others don’t waste they’re time and gas like myself. I’m not coming back after this .I can cook at home I came for good food and service or the lack of. I hope for vegan restaurants to be successful but it going to take more effort. This is not the 1st time I’ve been here either it was me giving a second try.
