Sonder | Desirable Studio at The Randolph: what do users think?
Josh Pawley: Great location, price, and overall customer experience. Would recommend!
kat Naaji: Be aware guys no pool no breakfast but they do have laundry and such amenities
Breno Totti: Nice room
Beverley Lubi: First time stay at a Sonder and we're already looking for other cities. Family visit for the Bills game over Thanksgiving. Great location, wonderful accommodations
annette kicinski: We were happy with our stay. We were in town for a football game and the close proximity to the stadium and casino was great. Parking garage very close as well. We parked and walked the entire time.Check in was easy and the door guard was pleasant and helpful. The room was nice and clean. We didn't notice street noise being problematic. We didn't need a washer and dryer but the amenities were nice. It was plenty of room for us for the short stay. There were a couple restaurant/bars across the street that had good food. We would stay again.
Gary: I stayed there last night and thoroughly enjoyed the newly renovated building. Very clean.
Brian Field: Welp. Full kitchen with laundry in the room is good. It’s big. Memory foam mattress and linens that actually fit would’ve made it nicer. House keeping not trying to barge in would have made it better. Place to sit other than bed and little breakfast table maybe. More than one little bar of soap to split between shower and sink woulda been good. A response to my request for late check out would have made it better. Plenty of good coffee in the room, 7-11 right downstairs was convenient, proximity to everything was great. Unsheltered folks passed out in the sidewalk. I couldn’t have done better for the money. 3.5 stars I guess.
L Z: Nice facility but the location is a nightmare. We stayed on 3rd floor and noise and activity on the street was all night. I’ve lived in NY, Philly, DC and have not experienced this level of street noise. A constant parade of modified cars and motorcycle cruising around Cadillac Sq every night revving their engines. Police did there best to control it by setting massive bright lights and park police vehicles in the area. Bright light shine into hotel room and all night. Blinds on windows are opaque and don’t block light. One our windows appeared to have a bullet hole in it. For some reason the 7-11 located at the bottom of the building seemed to be a major destination for everyone down town. People hanging out drinking all night. DONT STAY HERE IF YOU WANT TO GET SOME SLEEP.
Trudie Frederick: Been here 2 days of 10 and have not had a wink of sleep. Doors been broken into prior to my arrival and dosent lock properly. Cops have sat outside since I got here with their lights on. Can't walk outside without being harrased. Outside code box is broken and you have to force it while trying to tell people you don't have money. Rooms smell and have chipping paint and the shades don't block any sun. DO NOT ATAY HERE
Benjamin Popplewell: I stayed for fourteen nights in May in a “Superior One-Bedroom Apartment” there were a few good and bad things I have to say.Checking in -People have stated they found the check-in process difficult I didn’t have any issues at all, however, need to know there is no check-in desk. You are provided with a code to your room and the building in an email and through the app itself. Downloading the app is very helpful and will allow you to communicate with the staff in the event of problems. The room -The bad, the room’s cleanliness was on a par with a hotel’s cleaning level, not ideal when there’s no standard cleaning without request but they do provide cleaning supplies to clean it yourself. The bed linen was relatively clean within the standard of hotel linen and the rug had been walked on by the previous occupants with their shoes on multiple times without being cleaned. There was also damage to the door from where previous occupants had accidentally wedged the door into the security latch, something I did myself almost immediately so I get why they didn’t replace the door. The food disposal in the sink also did not work, but on contacting their customer service I received an immediate response and solution. The good, the room was nicely furnished it did look pretty and someone took time to design the place to look nice, it came fully stocked with utensils a pretty large television and a surprisingly comfortable pull out bed along with a dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, tea and coffee supplies and the like. It also had extra blankets and linen. The bedroom and closet were also spacious and comfortable with extra pillows and the bedroom itself was very well soundproofed. Connecting to the WiFi was also very simple, a card on the table provided the password to it.The location -The bad, it’s Detroit, you’re in downtown Detroit. It can be a bit scary to walk around outside but I never found any issues. There was also a lot of police often coming by to shop at the 7/11 on the ground floor of the building, and a security guard there most of the time too. It is a pretty touristy part of town and there’s not anything to be worried about. People have complained in the reviews about the noise on the weekend, and that is true but you are in the downtown part of a city on the weekend. It comes with the territory. It’s going to be noisy but the soundproofing is pretty excellent. Unfortunately, there is also no on-site parking, but there is a parking lot behind the building itself. If you do park there ask the morning shift attendant for a fob to open the gate if you’re long-staying, you need a $50 deposit. Do it, you’ll thank me, trust me.The good is you’re in downtown Detroit within walking distance of Greektown and just about everywhere you could ever want to walk to. You’re also literally above the local shop which happens to be the most guarded 7/11 in the country as apparently every cop shops there so the building is perfectly safe. It’s very close to parking lots, restaurants and very close to the airport along with the general area being very pretty and safe to walk around in.The conclusion -I would recommend staying here if you’re willing to pay the asking price, it’s not overly cheap, but you are in a great location with your own apartment and all the benefits that brings with it.
P K: Can recommend this place for checking out your frustration tolerance and your fear threshold.I arrived at 11:00 in the night on a friday. Homeless people in front of the door, scary people in front of the seven eleven. No stuff for checkin....Ok, seems to be just online checkin. From the emails not clear what to do. During unclear process, taping on advertisments poping up all the time. Nobody answered hotline for about 30minutes. The personal on the phone couldn't create pin and only help with the process while I was doing it on my phone on loud speaker. Absolut nightmere in front of a door in such environment. Took me at least 1h to get in.Room was comparably cheap nice and high quality. It's walking distance to everywhere in Downtown. Inside the house I felt save but it was noisy outside in the night.Good luck if you go there!
Christopher Schmitt: Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5More
Mary Britton: This place is a nightmare. It took us over 1 hour to get into the app to access our reservation. We contacted customer service who made us re-book the room at an INCREASED rate by over $200. We finally got squared away and then they never sent us codes to access the hotel or the room so we were over an hour late to check in. Stay somewhere with a front desk that isn’t such a disaster
Mike Winter: Just go with Airbnb or other hotels. Terrible service!Service: 1/5 …More
Arash Alavi: Worst customer service ever!Service: 1/5 …More
Ryan Stebbins: Made reservation, they decided not to honor it which we found out after being on hold for 1/2 hour, horrible customer service, gave up waiting for them to fix the issue because it was making us late to our reservations, horrible experience!Service: 1/5 …More
Carol Kalvelage-Bohn: Found this gem through a friend. Booked it as soon as I could for a client. Turned out perfect. Very very clean and Amazing location smack Dab in the middle of Detroit. Safe too ...building is secure at all times. You need an access code. Her room was on top so it was Stunning!!!! I will be saving this place for future reference.
Andrea Golden: So far so good! We got in with a code, it's in Greek town, there are dishes and pots and pans and coffee and even a potato peeler. My husband's chargers don't like Michigan, but that's not Sonder`s fault.
Flying Flyer: I have stayed at many Sonder properties in multiple cities, unfortunately The Randolph is the worst of them. First of all, cleanliness is the biggest problem for this location. The elevator is dirty, the bed linens are not clean, the carpet in the room is dirty, etc… Secondly, the location is very very noisy at night, especially at weekend nights. Thirdly, parking is a really pain for this location, there is no private parking for Sonder residents, you have to use public parking. If you are a long stay resident, plan your parking ahead. Next, there is a 24hr convenience store downstairs, a lot of homeless people walking around, and very noisy at nights. One of the great things i feel about this Sonder is the security staff are very friendly and helpful.
Pogo Pogo: Do not stay here. We found a toenail in the bed in the first bedroom, along with an earring on the floor. In the second bedroom there were crumbs in the bed and hair underneath the pillowcase. In the bathroom there were pubic hairs on the floor. I contacted customer service who told me they’d refund me the days I didn’t stay, we left immediately, however we’ve yet to see that and were told that our refund expired less than 24hrs after we were told we’d receive one. We haven’t heard from them after we questioned how the refund could have expired less than 24hrs after it was supposedly given. As far as location, if loud bass and fights in the street keep you awake, or homeless people sleeping outside the door are an issue, I’d advise you to move on. You’re right above a 7/11 and across from a bar.
Charles Arcario: The apartment was well furnished and spacious. The Security Guard Team was helpful and considerate. The location was within walking distance of lots of restaurants and local events. Checkout was simple. The place was well stocked with the same essentials that you would find in a hotel even though this is actually an extended stay establishment that occasionally offers rooms for short stays when they have gaps in availability.However...The check-in process was a nightmare and took over an hour using their app and speaking to a call center that took 45 minutes of on-hold time to contact. The neighborhood was very noisy and dangerous. It is located over a convenience store that attracted homeless people and locals that insisted on interacting with us as we entered and exited the building. The surrounding road was used as a drag strip for racing cars that screeched tires, blasted music and wound engines till 4 in the morning. The floors were dirty, dusty, and covered in hairs. The pillow cases and sheets were clean, but the pillows inside of them were dirty and covered in hairs. The hemp carpet was dirty and covered in hairs. We tried to get someone to clean the place using the Sonder App but no one responded to the message or bothered to clean the room. The Sonder Company seems to have a great idea for hotel alternatives, but they have a long way to go at this location. We may give them another shot in another city, but this location will not get our consideration.

The Cochrane House Luxury Historic Inn: what do users think?
Terri Russo: My husband and I have just concluded our four night stay at the luxurious Cochrane House. We have stayed all over the world at different B&B’s, and The Cochrane House exceeds them all! The owners Rica and Cina greet you with a warm smile and a glass of wine. They are always available for any question or concern you may have. The historical mansion is breathtaking both inside and out. The ambiance is like nothing we experienced before, appealing to all our senses. The rooms are expertly designed, clean and comfortable. The daily breakfast is plentiful and delicious. The sisters’ recommendations for dinner and drinks were spot on. We are writing this at the airport now and are already missing their hospitality! We will definitely be back!Safety: We felt extremely safe at The Cochrane House. There are many security features in place.Walkability: The downtown area and many venues are walking distance from The Cochrane House. The beautiful Riverwalk is also close!
Shelley Lindner: You won’t be disappointed staying here! From the moment Rica and Cina welcomed us at the door to the moment the door closed behind us when we left we felt at home! The beautiful premises left nothing to be desired. The concierge service was spot on! Our private bathroom was glorious! Wait until you see the shower room! Our bedroom was quiet and comfortable and beautifully appointed! You’ll never want to leave! Breakfast the next morning was plentiful and delicious! The hospitality displayed by the owners is second to none! This B&B is within walking distance of Little Caesar’s Arena, Comerica Ballpark, and Ford Field(football). We’ll book here again and so should you!
Emily Lemieux: This place is awesome. If you are going to a concert or a ballgame downtown it is RIGHT THERE. Smells great, good vibes, so comfy. I came in from the West Coast and time zone differences make you feel weird, but I slept SO GREAT. The sisters are so nice and the customized breakfast was fun to pick out and all delicious. I love that they use local products.Walkability: You can walk to a concert right down the block at Little Caesar's Arena
Rochelle Tapps: This home and the owners are everything and then some! Definitely somewhere nice to stay and so conveniently located. The vibe and look of the home and the decorations are so classic! Tastefully and beautifully decorated. Feels like homeRooms: The rooms are welcoming, clean, and comfortable .Walkability: The home is right by the comerica park . Home of the Detroit lions. It's 1 block from the Cochrane house
steven uebelacker: Amazing location, house is done up super nice and gives you a much more at home feel. Hosts are incredibley welcoming, they provided a pretty great breakfast menu that will get delivered to your room first thing in the morning. Just an overall great experience, they do it right here. Lauren Melissa Ellzey: The Cochrane House is a beautiful and cozy place to stay. The sisters that run this bed and breakfast are lovely hosts. Breakfast was made daily (with vegan and gluten free options) and delivered to my door. I enjoyed vegan sausage, a bagel with vegan butter and jam, vegan eggs, mixed berries, and coffee every morning. My room was equipped with a TV, mini-fridge, and Bluetooth speaker. My private bathroom was lovely, and the bed was comfortable. There is coffee and bottled water in the common area kitchen. The common area has couches, tables, board games, and more. Calming instrumental music plays in the common area, too. There is a coat hanger for my coat, which is nice, so I don't have to lug my winter coat to my room. Located near/in downtown Detroit, I could easily travel to a variety of wonderful restaurants. If I could, I would take the Cochrane House with me back home! I highly recommend this BnB over any hotel.Rooms: Cozy and comfortable. The room came with a large full-size mirror, too.Safety: I felt safe and sound in this BnB.Noteworthy details: Black-owned business.
Kari Henry: Had a great time at the Cochrane House tagging along with Chef Mike. Great food, great music and great hospitality. Very beautiful home.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury, Great view, Romantic, Quiet, Kid-friendly, Great value, High-tech …More

Christine Sebastian: My husband and I stayed at the Cochrane House for a holiday getaway. From the moment Rica greeted us at the door to our last goodbye, we felt so welcomed and cared for. The house is truly luxurious and so homey and comforting. Rica and Cina were available and attentive while respecting the privacy of all of their guests. It’s clear that the James sisters have put care and passion into the development and maintenance of this establishment. They truly have thought of everything from the beautiful decor to the smallest details. Honestly, I was a bit sad to leave the inn to go out on the town that night! Ordering breakfast was beyond easy, and the food was amazing. We love to explore B&Bs, and have been to quite a few. This one definitely tops our list!
Jessica Foley: We decided to have a staycation in Detroit, and booked the lounge suite. It was spacious, clean, cozy and comfortable. Rica and Cina were so incredibly sweet and accommodating. Their breakfast was elite. They offered so many options (including vegetarian), and everything tasted phenomenal- prepared themselves! I would love to stay here again.
June Mack: Outstanding!!!
Tamaroa: The customer service was excellent!!! It’s such a vibe here! We stayed in the suite. We regret not staying longer, that’s how much we enjoyed it. The owners got this right!!! Can’t wait to visit again.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
anne desjardins: Excellent, comfortable, clean, great location, and the best hosts ever! Do yourself a favor, and stay here.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Nicole Dees: Rica and Cina who run this beautiful place are jewels! Everything from the room, service, and food (homemade breakfast and charcuterie board on arrival) were incredible! Walked to a Red Wings game from here and all sports complexes are walkable. Will recommend to everyone and hope to be back soon. PERFECTION! Thank you! T.RRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Minou Carey: This is a five star experience. You are greeted with a soft warm aromatherapy when you walk in the door. I am big on amenities and cleanliness. Everything was spotless and fresh. The two sisters who own the place were extremely hospitable and man the breakfast was delicious too. I had my company retreat here. I will be back! It’s perfect for overnight sleepovers, hosting large family dinners, and a staycation.
Heather Walline: Was surprised by my partner with a weekend getaway to Detroit- he booked a few nights at the amazing historic mansion-turned-luxury B&B Cochrane House. Seriously lack the superlatives to describe how wonderful it was in every aspect. The house is gorgeous, the decor is fabulous, and even the fragrance is to die for (not floral, not masculine, not anything specific, but somehow perfect?). The scrumptious food- charcuterie upon arrival and made-to-order breakfast each morning (very generous portions) was fresh, delicious, locally sourced, and delivered right to our door. The room we stayed in (jazz fusion) was ridiculously comfortable, exquisitely decorated, and included every amenity one could want. Also- the bathroom! Like a mini-day spa right in the room. HUGE, beautiful, walk-in garden shower, with a soaking tub right in the shower (what??) and they have house-made bath salts for guests (of course they bring them right up to your room upon request). Location? Walking distance to everything and anything!Best of all, hosts (& owners) Rica and Cina are unparalleled in providing a first-rate experience for their guests. They are committed to ensuring not only comfort and a pleasurable stay, but truly go above and beyond to make Cochrane House a magnificent must-stay in Detroit. Will definitely be visiting them again, hopefully sooner than later.
Steve V.: Visited with my partner for a long weekend and The Cochrane House was perfect. Rica and Cina are delightful, hospitable, and extremely accommodating. The artistic decor, fragrance and culture are stunning. The home is immaculately clean with several amenities. The food choices and portions are plentiful and delicious. The location is perfectly positioned and within walking distance to almost anywhere you want to go downtown. I can't say enough about this place. We will return.
Nichole Hale: This place is perfect and Rica and Cina are so hospitable and the sweetest!!! Our room was clean and cozy. The beds (yep even the trundle) were very comfortable. The common areas are also clean and cozy. The outside space is relaxing. If you are going to a concert at LCA, baseball or football game, you're in walking distance. The charcuterie on arrival is a nice snack after a drive. Breakfast was delish! I can't wait to go back...even just to stay here and do nothing else.
Karen Kay Rush: Excellent establishment. Excellent Hosts/Owners. This quaint Bed & Breakfast is an excellent cozy place with awesome amenities and atmosphere. Great place to hold workshops, meetings, small family gatherings or just to steal away for some alone time. The Hosts are amazingly hospitable and make you feel better when you leave than you felt when you came! Black and Family owned, these Sister Sistahs have got it totally together ❤️ 🙌🏾 👍🏾

Sonder | Beautiful Studio at Gabriel Richard: what do users think?
Thermos Goldstein: The Sonder Gabriel Richard is little like Ikea and a minimum-security prison had a baby. No windows in #307’s two bedrooms (isn’t there a law about this?), the workout room has less equipment than what’s in your basement. The lobby bar is spectacular if you are staying at the nearby Shinola or the Detroit Foundation Hotel, meanwhile the security guard and two vending machines all hum pleasantly and Sonder. This property is what get when you have the least amount of retrofit budget but hire a decent photographer for your site. Oh, and the windows have been washed but not in the last five years. There is ton to love about Detroit, so much and lots of interesting places to stay. The Sonder Gabriel Richard in not one of them. 2.5 stars. UPDATE: The Sonder is a Hospitality Startup focused on equity and profit not staff and guest experience and sadly, it shows. In March 2023, Sonder laid off 14 percent of its corporate workforce — its second round of layoffs after cutting 21 percent of its corporate staff and 7 percent of workers in local roles in June last year. STAY AWAY!
tt L: I LOVED it! such gorgeous room, comfy bed! The area is so FUNN! Amazing restaurants and there was a super cool techno club just nearby, i had such a great time!! Walking distance to many landmarks, i even love the music from cars, it adds to the atmosphere, where else can you experience this. I love to see people having fun.I also was on the 6th floor and didn't hear anything that bothered me, the walls are very thick.I don't understand people staying in the central area and saying bad things about such a cool spot - stay in boring Dearborn or something and sleep there all day, knit & make pickles or whatever your soul desires
Don M: Beautiful, clean and safe with tons of unexpected amenities, I would love to stay their for extended considering it's in the heart of old Detroit. My hometown.
Nicolas NEGRILIC: Clean, convenient and well located.
Luis Galdamez: Hotel is walking distance to great places to eat and people mover several attractions like the filmore theatre, fox theatre and Central downtown. Room was clean and big and very welcoming. My only concern was lack of staff at the front desk area. But overall I would definitely stay there again.
Chris Mooney: Don't allow pets, which is lame
Daniel Ginzburg: The studio was great. Towels, dishes, glasses, laundry supplies, etc. were exactly as needed. I give it four stars because the bathroom was a little dilapidated - the toilet paper holder was installed into the drywall instead of a beam and so is falling out, the towel holder was broken and kept falling apart, and some of the laminate flooring had come up and apart. (Also, the handicapped door activator on the street next to the keypad is broken and wires exposed - just a bad look).None of this took away from the 12-day living experience I had, but five stars is "perfect" and these little flaws take away from the perfection. But I'd definitely stay at a Sonder again.
Ove Nyström: Really good. It is like your own apartment. You get towels and toilet paper yourself, no one cleans your room during your stay. Maybe you can ask for it, idk, but it is perfect for us.
Thadd F.: Sonder is a great place to stay in downtown Detroit! Great location, great price, beautiful, very stylish accommodations! Easy walking distance to shopping, lots of bars&restaurants as well as Comerica, Ford Field, and Little Caesars Arena. It was perfect for our weekend in Detroit. Wonder makes everything so easy with their app. I'd definitely stay at Sonder again whenever we're in Detroit. The only downside of staying at Sonder was there isn't any onsite parking. We parked at the 1001 Garage on State Street, just a few blocks away. Very reasonable, very safe parking garage.
Hendrik Lüdtke: PLEASE READ!First of all the building and apartment in it self is nice, clean and the location is great. But this is not a Hotel, it's an apartment complex. Most of the residents are long-term guest. For the price it's OK. But whatever you do, don't sleep in the x12 rooms (eg 412) they are directly besides the elevator. You won't get a peaceful sleep...
Matt Benson: Couldn't even check in because didn't have a US sim card, then even when we did get one to verify a phone number (never had to do that ever before to go into a hotel, why do it???) it still wasn't possible because their system is really awful. Customer service is either useless or often when contacting them, non-existent. In the end we got a refund, but we were left without a hotel room at 18.00 in the evening and had to find somewhere to stay that evening on a weekend just before Christmas, so obviously hard to do.The experience was so bad, I cancelled the other booking I had in a different city with them. The worst experience of checking into a hotel I've ever had. Will never, ever use them again. I strongly advise avoid Sonder hotels. If you don't have an American phone number you really can't check in to this place...what a pathetic approach which has meant they have lost over $1200 from two bookings because they can't just do what everyone else does if they don't have a reception because they're too cheap to hire a staff member to open a door....give people an entry code 🤦‍♂️ Useless.Booked the Indigo hotel in the end, about two minute walk around the corner...didn't even need to verify a phone number....how innovative and customer friendly.
Danielle Wittek: This was even better than staying at a fancy hotel in downtown Detroit. The images are exactly how the studio apartment looks. 100% would stay here again. This had everything you need while staying somewhere as an out of towner. The only thing that I did not expect is that you had to pay for parking.
Rami Fakhreddine: Pleasant experience, the hotel was clean and modern with a light and luxurious style. Located in downtown Detroit, the location was charming and relatively quiet. The employees were welcoming and very professional. All at a more than reasonable price, I highly recommend it !
Stevie: Nice hotel! However, no parking. The room was very clean besides bathroom, there was urine on the wall and hair in the shower and bed. Staff was not as welcoming. Probably wouldn’t visit again, just because of the overall experience.
D Jeezy: It was as a great place to stay while I was in the city for the week. Nice rooms, private entry, close to public transportation, and all the downtown night life. Next time I might stay more out east on Jefferson somewhere so I'm closer to other places of interest. As far as Sonder Gabriel goes though you won't be disappointed.
Angel Scott: This is my favorite Sonder location in Detroit. The views were great and we even got see a show being filmed for HBO from our window! The check in is easy through the app and the Sonder team is quick to respond if you need anything. Our room was clean and was nice to stay at for a week with the washer and dryer/functioning kitchenette. Also we had a view of the Ambassador bridge that was great! Definitely coming here for our anniversary staycation.
Rj Fulgen: If you're thinking about booking a room here but are nervous based on the reviews/lack thereof of reviews, I strongly encourage you to book it. Stayed here recently and after booking it I was a bit nervous, I saw a lot of reviews about the rooms being dirty or not pictured as what was expected etc. But honestly, between the location and the overall great customer service this hotel is fantastic. They were very quick to respond to any question I had & were pleasant to talk to. I gave 4 stars because yes, the floors were honestly very dirty. However, this is something some slippers can cover, and if you're that concerned just request a broom/swiffer. Everything else was spotless, and again the price and the location are worth it. Will be staying again.
Kayla Bernardino: Easy check-in, great proximity to downtown — and the space!!! I had to work during the day, and the big windows and spacious kitchen/living room were a godsend. Would definitely recommend!
Ed Loeffelman: Stayed here in a two bedroom 10th floor apartment for a weekend trip to Detroit. Very clean accomodations with everything you need for comfort. Close to the football and baseball stadiums and plenty of night life activities very close by. It's a coded entry with a security officer usually sitting at the main desk in the lobby.
Ahmed Alqarni: would not recommend.
