Kyle McCarthy: Stopped in before a concert at LCA. Walked in on a Tuesday evening, and hadn't made a rez but they were able to seat the 2 of us no problem. Though I'm sure on busy nights reservations are recommended. Great tapas spot, we tried several different menu items and I would have tried anything on the menu. The margaritas were classic, high quality and so refreshing.

KaIndy Global: Updated review 05/2023:It saddens me to write this review because La Féria has been our go-to restaurant in Detroit for many years. We did not dine here for this updated review** (our last visit was in 05/2022 and was excellent).But unfortunately, their criteria for making/canceling reservations/dining is very customer unfriendly. You can make a reservation online, which is great but you have to give your credit card information and after your reservation is complete, $25 is immediately taken out of your account. You cannot call for a reservation. But, If you want to cancel your reservation, you have to call for someone to physically cancel it. The first time we tried canceling, the staff did not succeed in doing it. We had to call another time, which took 15 tries of calling for someone to answer the phone. If you fail to cancel your reservations 24 hours in advance (be aware of days they are closed) you will not get your $25 back.Also, after you reserve, you get an email stating when you dine there an automatic 3% processing fee is added plus 20% gratuity for all checks. It just seemed like there is too much stress/rules/fees with wanting to make a reservation for a tapas restaurant.Previous review 10/2019:One of the most Spanish authentic restaurants we have been to in Michigan. The food is awesome and the hospitality is great every time.

JC: Overall, La Feria was a good experience. The food came out quickly. All the food was hot and fresh. The service was excellent and the servers were friendly. We didn't have a reservation so we had to sit at the bar. The bar had plenty of room to share the tapas dishesThe food didn't have as much seasoning as I would've expected based on other tapas experiences I've had. Most of the dishes were quite bland, especially the chicken dishes. I think that the best dishes we had were the churros with the chocolate sauce and the shrimp. We tried every meat tapas dish on the menu. They were decent, but I think they all required more seasoning.Parking: Parking is hit or miss, especially on a Saturday when the weather is nice.

T Scott Galloway: I understand that running a restaurant is a real challenge these days and I'm happy to pay a reservation deposit, a living wage charge, and have the restaurant pass along credit card processing fees to me for the convenience this form of payment affords - BUT in exchange I expect to have my reservation honored and to receive attentive service. My reservation of almost two weeks ago was not available when my party of four arrived. We were told to wait in a hallway by the bathrooms for 40+ minutes despite there being room at the bar and open tables that could have accomodated us. 3 members of a party of 5 that arrived 15 minutes after us were seated 15 minutes before us. Once seated our waiter failed to provide us with water, explain the menu or the wine list and made infrequent stops by our table.The food and drinks were excellent and the prices very reasonable given the creativity and quality of the food - so unfortunate that the front of the house let down the back of the house.

Brendan Watson: Meal was good, not great. Some of the flavors lacked much subtlety - the kitchen really LOVES garlic. I do, too, but I had fire breath after eating a subtle of dishes with that one note of flavor. Service was friendly, but so, so. And we were told we had a time limit to eat when we sat down, which was a first for me. No real strong complaints, but pretty middle of the road experience.

megan widman: The tapas here are quite authentic (I am not Spanish but lived in Spain for a year and ate a lot of them!) and reasonably priced. Highlights include the gambas al ajillo (shrimp with garlic) - be sure to dip your crusty bread in the remaining garlic oil. The Pulpo al Gallego was delicious and on special. It was smoky, tender, and full of flavor. The churros are divine.I highly recommend making a reservation. Note that you will have to pay a $25 reservation fee, which will later be deducted from your bill. This was fine with me, but when our party of six arrived, the hostess took us to two tables and pointed at them and said, "there are your tables". I asked if we were to join them ourselves and she said yes. We then proceeded to scrape and squeak them across the floor as she watched. It was VERY strange. I would think for the not so minor price of $25, we could expect to have our tables adjoined, especially since our reservation was at 5:45.The hostess also made sure to remind us before walking away that we were limited to 90 minutes.Our waiter was attentive and on top of everything. He was friendly and welcoming.There is also a 20% gratuity and 3% service charge added onto every bill. The sign says to "ensure their staff receive a living wage". Of course I always leave at least 20%, but I found it curious that they are passing on this responsibility entirely to the customer and was left wondering if the owners also pay a living wage to their staff.Given the extra charges, strange service, and pressure to finish our meal quickly, I don't think I will be returning, although I did really enjoy the food and ambiance.

I did go on Sunday afternoon when it wasn't busy, so it may overwhelm the staff on a busy weekend night.If you want to discover a real Mexican restaurant in West Detroit, put this on your list.Parking is gated and has a security guard to make you feel more comfortable if you're new to the neighborhood. John Jester: This is possibly my favorite Detroit restaurant, which is saying quite a bit with all of the delicious and amazing places in the city. But the food is incredible with Italian and Mexican cuisine that chef Norberto makes feel both authentic and fresh. with individual recipes of both food types that are as authentic as if you went to your Noona's or your Abuelita's house. As well as fusions that are creative and delicious. The service is absolutely impeccable as well. Very kind and attentive but not overbearing or intrusive, with several of the higher up staff taking absolute interest in the quality of the service as well as the quality of the food. Our server juan was fantastic, He helped me make my daughter's birthday dinner amazing, and I had given him no prior warning so his helpfulness was absolutely unexpected but so appreciated . And this was with a retirement party and a engagement celebration going on in the same area we were in and he still made it incredibly special for her. This is a place where people come to make each other happy .....I could probably write an entire review on just the turkey leg in molé, or the gnocchi..... But if you follow any of my advice it is to please stop reading this now and go try the food at this place.Vegetarian options: The entire menu is sorted by the type of components in the meal from vegetarian to different types of meat. The staff are very knowledgeable about all of the individual dishes so you will almost never encounter a question that they can't immediately answer at your table. They do have a large selection of vegetarian options as well as vegetarian options that are prepared without meat, sauces or possibly harder to detect meat such as stock or bullion that may not be listed on the menu.Kid-friendliness: There is not a person on the planet. These people are not friendly too, they have a large outdoor patio area that is covered by a roof which makes for kid friendly areas as well as tables that allow you to have space.Parking: They have a large fenced parking lot in the back that is very secure, and the parking enters directly to the back of the building. The only issue that is presented is that the alley to find the parking is a little bit difficult to see when coming from the neighborhood rather than off of the main boulevard. There are large signs that indicate where it is as well as street parking that is available on two of the sides of the building. Upwards of 50 spots, as well as street parking for up to 30 cars within a 1 minute walk of the buildingWheelchair accessibility: The parking lot behind the building has no step access into the building as well as no step access to the bathrooms, there is an exterior patio that most of the seating is on. On that is a solid tiled floor with no restrictions. Save for a few vertical posts It is quite easily traversible by anyone with ambulatory issues

Erin Sees: Have been here many times and loved everything about it but our last visit was just not it. Our server was training two young ladies so we understood the longer than usual wait for drinks and food but we were one of two tables at the restaurant on a Tuesday and had to ask for things multiple times and still never got them. Coffee was left cold and empty many times. Food was cold before we could even get a bite. Very disappointing visit this last time. Hopefully when we try again, it'll be back to its normal amazing-ness!

Carolina Centlivre: El Barzon has become a nice elegant over price restaurant. The service is fast and staff is friendly and courteous. I ordered tamarindo Margarita $16 and lasagna $28, i didn’t know it came a la cart. It had a Mexican spice taste i didn’t expect. A couple of years ago it came with a salad. Many change I didn’t expect.

My only complaint would be that the service can be a little slow. We had a group of 12 and ordered some bottles of wine for the table. It took about 45 mins before our two waitresses took our food order. Once the food was ordered, it came out fairly quickly! Overall, recommend this place but be aware of possible slower service.

Peter Welch: Odd experience on Cinco de Mayo. There were open tables, including a chess board table in the middle. We were told it would be 30 minutes wait for 2 people. I at first put our name on the list with the anxious manager. Then, we reconsidered, walked inside to the bar to order a takeout. We were told we couldn't do any takeout and in fact couldn't be in the restaurant (even though there were empty tables.) Another woman came in after us and seeing empty tables, sat down. Guess she missed the host stand. Manager then berated her and banned her for life.At any rate, food was OK but 3 tacos (no special orders or substitutes, beef only even though the menu had chicken...), small serving of rice and beans was $15.

The service was incredible - it was May 6th and they were just coming off a crazy Cinco de Mayo yet they are so nice and welcoming.Food? Best beans and rice hands down! I had the Taco dinner and my husband had the quesadilla. Great portions.Last thing - bonus was the Diet Shasta soda. I had no clue what it was at first but it too was delicious and I can’t recommend it enough! Can’t say enough good things!

Ken: Super good Mexican Food. You'll get chips and some great salsa for the table regardless. Food is very good with lots of options and specials to include those who don't eat meat. Drinks are decent and very reasonably priced. The booth seats are a bit shaky and you might get bothered by the person behind you but all in all a very good place to get food. Very underrated! Have returned many times and is a nice place to eat.
