Super easy to talk with (they actually respond to customers!). I didn't have time to play w/ the acoustic guitars or all the other fun stuff they have so will definitely be stopping in again.

Bayberry Music: what do users think?
tinesha erskine: I had my Viola looked at as well as inquired about other instruments. They were so knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. They explained everything they were doing to fix my Viola as well as some tips and things to look out for. I can tell they are passionate about all string instruments. I would definitely recommend and will be making this my go-to string repair and purchase store.
Yeman Al-Rawi: This is where you want to be for all your music needs… seriously, Andy and his team are some of the best at what they do and they’re genuine, honest people.
Catrina Street: What an amazing company! My son broke the neck on his guitar and you can not even see a mark after the repair. Very professional and friendly staff as well.
jon fricke: Andy was great to work with. Transparent on price, options, and timing. Really nice guy too!
Josh J: Amazing setup, fast turnaround & kind service.
Beo Games: Never went but I love it!
Michelle Hansen: Kkj
Jeff Pursell: Great place to buy or fix guitars or pretty much anything with strings
George M Wilson: Personable, skilled, great selection of supplies. Also, super happy to have a shop close by in Ferndale. 10/10 would recommend- for servicing guitars, and orchestral string instruments.
Patrick Becerra (PBeetheFox): I took my Strat in last week and asked Andy to install some locking tuners. They did a great job putting them on, and the turnaround was quick too. I've heard Andy referred to as "Koontz Junior" and I believe the moniker is well earned.
John Danna: Brought a 96 stratocaster in for a full fret re-work. I was nervous about who to bring it to. Took a chance and Andy up front was a professional. Promised within a week and done in 2 days. They did wonderful work for a reasonable price. I will be going back for future work. Thank you!
Joshua Steiner: Took my guitar in for a busted tuning machine. Ultimately it couldn't be fixed. But the man at the counter made a great attempt and the parts I needed to replace were in stock.
Robert Konieczko: Thank you,Andy. Your workmanship is first rate. Youve given new life to my inexpensive guitar,it now looks and plays like one ten times more expensive.
Keaton Soto-Olson: I would highly recommend this shop for anyone seeking outstanding customer service, a great selection of instruments, or expert repairs. Andy absolutely saved me (and the gig) with a short notice pickup install on my upright. Despite being close to closing time for the shop, Andy did the install and let me test it out on his PA. If you’re a string player of any sort definitely check out this shop, a great place to get a fresh set-up on your instrument or buy your new rig!
Serpent Column: Extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and professional craftsman whose work is on par with Ann Arbor Guitars. There's really nobody comparable in the metro area.
John Taylor: Great place to shop and have your guitar set up at. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were very reasonable and they took very good care of my son when we went there for the first time.
Justin Foust: I took two of my guitars to Andrew at Pursell Lutherie on a whim after hearing they worked on wooden instruments. He did wonderful work! I will always take my instruments to him in the future. He worked on both my Gibson and Mule Resonator in a timely and friendly manner. Would recommend Pursell Lutherie highly!
Joe Vrabel: Andy and team are the best! After having them fix and set up a used strat I picked up, I was sold. I will never take any of my gear to the big-box "center" again. Andy and team will take you through the repairs/adjustments they did, in detail and answer any questions you may have. I now have had them repair & set up three of my guitars and each one came back to me looking amazing and sounding even better. I now go there for lessons too. Overall, a great local business that I am happy to give my business to. Definitely give them a try!
eric kirkwood: I acquired a 1953 Gibson J45 that was found in an attic in royal oak. The guitar had so many cracks and loose bracing I was worried it might be too far gone. Andy completely restored and rescued the guitar while perfectly preserving its patina and charm and it is now the best player I own. I cant put it down. Being a craftsman myself, when I saw Andy's workshop I knew the guitar was in the right hands. This man is a highly skilled artisan. Many thanks to Andy, and to Aaron for the referral. These guys are friendly, accommodating and highly professional.
Jodi B: I’m so excited to hear the same folks are re-opening their store! Wonderful place and super nice people.
Joshua and Zena Neds-Fox: Pursell Lutherie is friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating, and extremely competent. Set up my D'Angelico after a cold snap shifted the action and frets. My budget was tight and they still did right by me and the instrument. Sounds wonderful. A+, will certainly visit again.

J.M. Lee: All thing music at this shop!
Marvin Lee: John was extremely knowledgeable in all things music. Was able to pick up some great items at a really good price. Most definitely will be shopping here again
Don Scott Music: I was told by a friend that this man sells new guitar cords for a good deal. Why he tried to sell me instead, was an old cord which he tried to pass off as "new". Clearly it looked like he found his box of guitar cords in the trash. Bottom line: this guy is nothing more than a junk man who tries to sell his junk that he found,to other people.

Rock City Music Company: what do users think?
Jaye Isham: Big thanks to Nick for making an online guitar purchase so easy. And I really appreciated the personal communication, which is something you just don’t get with the corporate online sellers. AAAA++++
Tom Haefner: Great guitar store! Wide selection of guitars, amps, effects, and records! Knowledgable staff. A much better environment than that nationwide big box chain store that sells guitars. Took guitar and mandolin lessons from Jesse Manns there for about 2 years. The dude is a great teacher and a beast on guitar and mandolin!! Rock City brings in a fair number of music celebrities to conduct seminars, etc. I highly recommend the store for guitars, guitar equipment and lessons.
Sam Wallace: Marek and others were super helpful especially for a first time customer. Would highly recommend!
Mike Schmidtke: Rock City Music is great! I recently moved to Livonia and was looking for a specific model of guitar. I stumbled upon Rock City's website and found the model I was looking for, but it ended up going out of stock literally the next day. I contacted them on Facebook to get an estimate on if/when more units would arrive. Nick (the owner) was super friendly in his correspondence with me and ended up giving me a great deal on a similar model. The store atmosphere is exactly what you'd want for a guitar/music store - staff were friendly, but not pushy or hanging over my shoulder while I tried the guitar. I also appreciated that they were all wearing masks and asked everyone to use hand sanitizer before playing the instruments. I'll definitely be going to Rock City first for all my guitar needs!Update (March 2023):I've returned to Rock City a few times to pick up gear and have my guitar and bass serviced - all experiences have been great! They even re-fretted my stratocaster, which is no small task! The staff are very nice, and turnaround time for getting work done on my instruments has been completely acceptable (~7-10 days for the tech to start work - comparable to other places I've had work done). In my opinion, this is as good music store as you'll find anywhere! Glad to also be supporting a local business. Keep up the great work!
Adam Bruton: Cool little local shop with friendly staff. Would definitely recommend it. Especially over big box stores.
Corey Williams: The best shop around go see nick they will get you all set up and make sure the guitar works for you amazing service
Kevin Watson: Just recently bought my ibenez Paul Stanley Iceman there and the staff were great with helping me out Nick and Scott are very knowledgeable on products and a great selection of guitars and vinyl and funko pops , t shirts Etc. So drop by this place and check it out
Josie Tea: my teacher is the goat. shout out micheal, absolute W
Kristine Weatherston: My favorite kind of place to spend my money! Tons of sweet Vinyl records, music gear, guitars, Funko, and pinball! Friendly staff and a great sale when I was there in 12/30. Can’t wait to come back!
John Nelson: I've had nothing but positive experiences at this shop through the years. They stock pretty much everything. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. If they don't have it, they will order it for you. Impressive selection of guitars and basses from brands like Fender, Gretsch, Reverend, Jackson and Epiphone. They have a wide array of pedals, amps, drums and parts. Their vinyl section seems to always be growing. They get all the new releases and have tons of used stuff. Awesome place!
Jack O’Neill: Amazing customer service (thanks Scotty)! Will definitely buy from again.
Jim Erickson: Great store. Scottie was awesome! Very happy with my purchasing experience! My "go to" shop from now on.
kayla k: I loved my experience at Rock City Music Company! I got a beautiful red Squier Cyclone, and everyone who worked there was so nice!! They provided fantastic customer service and helped me find the perfect guitar for me. Definitely check this place out, and go dig through their vinyl, too!
Matthew Dubay: After several recommendations, and seeing a 15% off pedal sale on their website I went to check the store out. I mention the website sale and show the sales staff their site on my phone. While waiting for the manager to approve the sale price at their point of sale, they remove the sale from the their site and then refuse to honor the discounted price. To add insult to injury - they don't accept returns exchange only. Avoid this store.
Mike Smithson: I love this place. The staff and owner Nick make me feel like a family member everytime I walk in. They have an awesome collection of quality guitars (love the Charvel's and Reverend's) and gear that can meet anyone's budget. Great for lessons and any type of work you need done on your instrument. Highly rated.
Lisa Frank: Great selection of vinyl~ Cool and helpful staff.
Ray Prevo: Went there specifically to buy a Reverend.Lots of choices. Well worth the drive. Also awesome selection of vinyl as well.KEEP DOING IT RIGHT !! A+
Jeff Schneider: Cool place cool people
Charles Lease: Very friendly and helpful staff. Needed a case for my Gretch G5220 and got a perfect fitting Gretch gig bag for a reasonable price.
Shane Michael Dignan: Rock City Music is the single coolest independent musical instrument retailer in Metro Detroit currently. Where else can you add to your boutique pedal collection, pick up a brand new Charvel, shop for records, and play the newest Iron Maiden-themed pinball machine all in one day? Nick has assembled an absolute all-star veteran cast of music retail sales associates here. I’ve been playing for about 28 years now, grew up in the area, and spent plenty of time at Music Villa, Music Plus, Joe’s Music and others — Rock City Music is the best of all of those old-school establishments and more!
Tim Govier: Great store! All your musical needs are here!

Detroit Guitar: what do users think?
Tyler Willison: Fantastic store. Have bought a few guitars from them and they’re great to deal with!
Daniel Vigil: Agree that it’s a mixed bag here. The service is hit or miss. I’m also really not a fan of them calling them selves “Detroit guitar“ when they are in the wealthy suburb of Birmingham. If you want to claim the name, be in the city and contribute.
Bert Daer: I'm in my 70's. Been playing Gibson's since the middle '60's. The 50's and 60's Gibson's feel and sound 'real' to me. I have a several of them that I bought long ago. Got a super nice '52 no serial but no LP with humbuckers.I bought a Gibson Custom '59 Les Paul Standard Reissue Dirty Lemon Burst Murphy Lab Light Aged from Detroit Guitar. About the same aging as my '59 ES330TD with a similar neck. But the action is quite a bit below what I thought was possible. Sound is similar to my '62 Explorer but both sweeter and harder depending on volume setting. Detroit Guitar told me all that in slightly different ways. The Guitar exceeds what they described. The guitar arrived in perfect condition 2 business days after the order, no issues at all with shipping or packing. As I was told by Andrew at Detroit Guitar, this is truly a superb guitar. The magazines and Gibson are correct. Gibson is making its finest guitars now.The guitar far exceeds my expectations and is quite a bit better than the local 2013 Duane Allman Artist I had been looking at. Even if the Allman was priced at say $6k or $7k and not $17k on Reverb I would have chosen this one.Doing business with Detroit Guitar was smooth, personal and professional.Thank-You Detroit Guitars!
baron: It was very relaxing and cool!
30roundz: Great gear! Great people!
Aaron Galore: Nice shop. Cool environment. Unfortunately the worker who helped me charged me 101.99 on a pedal that was clearly marked 97.50. I didn't see the price tag til I got home . It's what the guy charged me , before tax . Nice shop but feel kind of ripped off . Over $5. But 5 bucks is 5 bucks .
Marc Di Lembo: What a stellar shop. Andrew was helpful, and patient. Dealing with the team at Detroit Guitar was a wonderful experience. If you’re a Fender fanatic, this place is a must. I’ve never seen such a line up of truly wonderful instruments. Can’t speak highly enough of this gem.
Joe Pawlowski: Ok
Joe Arozarena: Boutique guitar store with surprisingly wide selection of electric and acoustic guitars. Not many basses to choose from. Mostly mid to high-end prices.Parking space Somewhat difficult to find parking Parking options Paid street parking, Paid parking garage …More
Nick: Charlie is fantastic to work with, has phenomenal prices, and great selection. Charlie took time out of his evening to get additional pictures for me (I’m pretty sure he did this even after the store closed). Happy to have found this shop. Seemed like he cared about making the sale when so many dealers just blow you off these days since the demand is so high.
Chad Coleman: Phenomenal selection of guitars to choose from, I felt like a kid in a candy store! The owner was really nice too, I'll definitely be back.
Fred: Mixed bag here. Visited many times over the years. Some folks are very welcoming and encourage you to grab a job and jam. The guy yesterday was overly concerned about anyone touching a guitar. Even told a couple of young guys they couldn't plug in and try a guitar about 30 mins before they closed. I get being careful. With your guitars. He just seemed way more concerned with his guitars being touched and getting people out before he left. I was actually going to buy a PRS but I ordered from Sweetwater instead. My new PRS Studio is being delivered tomorrow!
Joe V (joe1234): I never like to leave poor reviews on small businesses because I believe in supporting local business. That being said the manager in there is in need of a serious attitude adjustment. Has no passion for the job and even in an empty store doesn’t want to be bothered. Giving three stars because it seems they have nice stock. I took about three minutes of his time purchased the item I wanted only to find out the seal was busted when I got to my truck. I just left didn’t want to go back inside and will not return. Go here if you know exactly what you want but do not ask them questions.
John Negosian: NO PLACE TO PARK!!!! Located in the heart of downtown Birmingham. In the middle of all the chaos. WAY too congested in that area. Zero places to park. Totally not worth it.....To the owners- Sorry...but You guys picked the stupidest location. Good luck....
Hayt Cryme: Great guitar store, with fantastic guitars, very good taste. I was helped out and able to play some guitars that I had been wanting to try for awhile. The person helping me was knowledgeable about details of the guitars including hardware, electronics(pickups) and manufacturing. If you are in the market for a guitar and near Birmingham, this is a must visit.
Dave Moore: I stopped in for the first time a few days go. It's a smaller than average guitar store by square foot but they had a lot of guitars. What really impressed me was every guitar that I picked up was in better than new condition. Super clean not a smudge on any guitarthat I looked at. They were all perfectly in tune and had a good setup. Every guitar I played had nice low action with no string buzzing. Someone spends a great deal of time keeping these guitars in showroom condition and in tune. Nothing like what you see in the other guitar stores. And the prices were very competitive.
Up Up: Nice vibe and great selection. The guy that helped my daughter was very helpful.
david yarbrough: Very nice boutique guitar shop. A Fender lover's paradise. Could have a few more bass selections though. 🙂
George Watkins: Pretty cool store, higher end guitars 🤘
Ryan Kargleder: Good selection of guitars, and the staff were polite and friendly.
Colin Hicks: Great store, amazing guitars. But their service is very lacking. They’ve had my guitar for a month now just to switch the set up from 9s to 10s. I was told 2 weeks, 4 weeks ago. Again, love to support local businesses, but I cannot recommend servicing your guitar here.
