Ellie Shuda: Best hotel in Detroit. very kind staff. we left a personal belonging at the hotel and the hotel staff went above and beyond to get it back to us safely.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More

Lisa Bennett: Rooms had no light.Could not check in early. The servers were really nice.Walkability: Could walk everywhereFood & drinks: No breakfast at 7 in the area. Detroit opens up at 8am.
Teresa Corey: We reserved a room at the Shinola to celebrate our 18th Wedding Anniversary. Checking in was great. We liked our room but when we took the comfortor off, we found several hairs on the sheets... ruined our first experience here ! We think the sheets weren't changed from the last guest.... also found hairs on the wash cloths! The room was so extremely noisy! You could hear the traffic from Woodward.Didn't sleep well. Beware ! !!
Scott: We were very impressed with the entire experience. The staff is wonderful!
Joe N: Very nice hotel, the staff were friendly and answered all of our questions. No issues with valet service either. But the bad review is because a neighboring bar had music so loud well past 2 AM that it was literally shaking the walls of our room. We called the front desk and they told us there was really nothing they could do, but did offer to send up ear plugs. I feel like for the price we paid for our room, we should not have had to deal with this. I understand it’s not the hotels fault, but it did negatively impact our experience.
Amy Hasselbring: My husband and I stayed and attended a wedding at Shinola this past weekend. WOW. What a beautiful hotel. First of all the staff is amazing, thank you Mika, and Q for the warm and welcoming check-in and check-out. We felt like family. Everyone was wonderful. Our room was spotless, spacious, and just beautiful. The wedding venue was gorgeous, and the food was OUTSTANDING. Very impressed with this hotel. We live 40 minutes away and decided to get a room. So glad we did. We will be back.
Albin Berberovic: Experience and food are awesome.
Paul Houle: Order a print catalog from Shinola, open it up and look at the styling of everything in it. That's where you will be staying while here. Except the people talk to you and they are VERY nice. Stay there, you won't be disappointed.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury …More
Curtis Hulme: Was there for a wedding reception. Food was amazing and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Great cocktails paired with excellent food served by friendly professionals.Food & drinks: We were there for a wedding reception. Food was amazing.
Abdul Hameed Rasekh: having expensive handmade afghan carpets all over the hotel make this hotel unique and nice.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Matthew Sinclair: Slipped inside the hotel when out for a brisk jaunt. The Evening Bar was closed but the hotel bar was open and quite inviting. Warm tones and soothing lighting. Bar service was excellent and I had possibly the best White Russian I’ve ever tasted.
Cynthia Oland: We had an absolutely lovely experience staying at the Shinola Hotel. The location is premium, we saw a show at The Fillmore and the walk was less than 10 minutes. The bed was extremely comfortable, and I love the ambience the room has. Hardwood floors are so soft on the feet! Front desk staff was kind, lobby is stunning, and we ordered cappuccinos and a pastry basket from in room dining in the morning. Ask for a chocolate croissant! We parked about 2 blocks away in a parking garage, and the walk was about 6 minutes from the hotel. Not too bad at all. Would love to stay here again.
Edward Charleston (Ed): I was there for a 50th birthday celebration. Love the experience.Food & drinks: Good spreadNoteworthy details: 50th birthday celebration

yep Nope: hands down the worst hotel experience ever. the housekeeping staff don't pay attention to the do not disturb signs and the front desk people don't coordinate with anyone else so if you call for a late checkout, housekeeping will still come and knock on your door, despite the do not disturb signs and despite the late checkout, who will then call security who will come bother you, and then they'll sit there and tell you that theres no late checkout despite what you were told by the front desk literally the night before.the walls are thin. the windows are thin ( and there's a lot of noise outside), it's overpriced, and the people are rude.

We were going to spend the same amount at a chain hotel out of town. Our stay was a real treat.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great value …More
Adati Tarfa: The most unique and beautiful hotel I have stayed in! The king-bed rooms are very lovely. The rooms have the best lighting and dimming options for optimal sleep. The beds are very comfortable and have a lot of pillows. The bathroom has a very nice tub and the water pressure is awesome.I am not sure if there is breakfast food but there is a dinning option and bar within the hotel.
Phil Williams: Atheneum was a mixed experience for us; the location in Greektown is nice and the staff were pleasant and helpful, but the price is exorbitant and the rooms were an odd combination of newly-renovated and dirty/old fixtures. Our suite had a king bed, whirlpool tub, two televisions, and a large shower. The tub was in desperate need of a thorough cleaning with bleach and so were the bathroom fixtures. Both televisions are not capable of using streaming services or capable of casting media. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet, so we did get a good night's rest.Overall a good experience but for the price we would not stay here again.
Hailey: Very spacious and cool rooms! The lobby is gorgeous. But we they don't have free coffee in the morning, you gotta pay for it. There is a parking garage right across the street if you don't want to valet. Greek Town casino is right around the corner.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury …More

Jim-Traci Zavsza: Rooms were nice but didn't like the 3 steps down to the bedroom. They needed a floor light on each step not just the middle step it made it difficult in the middle of the night when you had to use the bathroom.Rooms: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More

Dave S: We've almost never had a problem at Athenium hotel, Great staff, gorgeous interior, rooms weve had recently do need a little tlc...( If you Need Handicap accessible...Specify it Right away....) Many suites have Steps from living room/bathroom to eating /bedroom area.....Greentown casino Is 2-3 blocks away...others within couple miles... ballparks are bout Mile away...
Shawnta Allen: We stayed one night Saturday April 15th to Sunday April 16th in room 211.The hotel crew was nice. The room we stayed in has some type of water issue after we used the hot tub in our room the carpet beside the bed was soaked.

Special shout out to Ivory and Mia! Thank you both for great recommendations to local must go's! Also big thanks to Justin and Dustin at the Candy Bar! Awesome work Team Siren! See you soon.
Julie Henderson: I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Siren Hotel in downtown Detroit, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! From the moment I arrived, the valet service treated me like a VIP, making me feel right at home. The hotel's decor was visually captivating, with a stylish and unique aesthetic that extended throughout the entire property. The rooms, in particular, were quirky and cool, adorned with interesting artwork and filled with cute touches that added a playful and whimsical charm. Be sure to check out the bar, Candy Bar, for a fun and unique experience, as well as the coffee shop in the lobby for a delightful pick-me-up during your stay! Plus, with its convenient downtown location, you'll have easy access to all the vibrant attractions Detroit has to offer.Rooms: So cute and charmingNearby activities: Tigers stadium walkableSafety: Totally safe right in the middle of downtown with tons of people.Walkability: Walk almost anywhere in downtown DetroitFood & drinks: All sorts of restaurants and bars walkable including the candy bar in lobbyNoteworthy details: Loved the artsy feel
Summer Lambert: Adorable hotel, super cozy, good coffee!
Deirdre Kelley: The ambiance and decor are so eclectic and cute, the rooms feel a little haphazardly put together with the vintage furniture but they match nicely, color-wise. Josh Levey: Hip, boutique hotel in a beautiful, repurposed historic building. Stayed here for 4 nights and felt that we got a good feel for it.Check in was easy and the front desk staff was great, personable and helpful. Location is excellent (one block from Tigers stadium, a few blocks from the Fillmore and other music venues), and we loved that it’s dog friendly. The first floor is beautiful, with classy vintage furniture and a tropical New Orleansesque feel, and is home to a high end cocktail bar called the Candy Bar, which was intimate and classy. The black and white tile flooring on the way to the elevators gave the hotel a cool retro feel. The room itself felt a bit small, but the furnishings were nice. Comfy beds, great shower with a large window overlooking downtown, cute and old furnishings. The window shades were cute but didn’t fully cover the window, and let a lot of light through in the morning. The one downside, and reason for subtracting a star, was that for the price, we expected more amenities. The hotel had few frills; there was no coffee machine in the rooms, no fitness center, no food served (apparently there’s a restaurant but it was closed the week we stayed), no vending machines to get water or beverages (the front desk staff was amazing and was able to tap into the fridge at the coffee cafe in the front to get us bottles). For the cost of the room, we expected a bit more. That said, really enjoyed our time and would stay again
Briana McCarthy: Very atmospheric and cool spaces. The hotel staff was very helpful and personable. Easy walk to the riverfront. My only complaint was everything kind of has this sweet tinged smell and whatever scent they were pumping into the room was slightly headache inducing.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More

gerald congdon: This certainly feels like a boutique hotel. There's nothing cookie cutter about it. The hotel bar, called the candy bar, is as unique as its name. This hotel certainly has a historic feeling once you walk through the doors.

Woodie Anderson: I really enjoyed my 4 night stay here. The staff was very friendly, courteous, and helpful. The room was fresh, clean, well appointed. The pillows were really excellent. The location is easily walkable to so much fun night dining and entertainment. I felt safe walking the surrounding area after dark. I shall stay here again!Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Konstantin Schauwecker: The hotel itself is quite nice but they have the worst possible service: there will be no room service at all no matter how long you stay. No trash will be emptied, no toilet paper refilled, no towels replaced, no coffee refilled, no room cleaning, or anybody entering the room at all for any service. When complaining, the staff just said that this is how they operate since COVID (now its May 2023). Then please adjust your star rating, because daily room cleaning is even a requirement for a one star hotel! During our stay there were guests who just emptied their trash can into the hallway, and not even that was taken care of in a timely manner.I still give three stars just because the room itself was quite nice.
Mark Erichson: Rooms are smallish, but clean, well-appointed, and nicely decorated. Big shower, lots of phone charging outlets, a safe, refrigerator, ample storage. Desk and Bell staff are helpful and pleasant.Nearby activities: Easy walking / People Mover / Q Line distance to Hart Plaza, Campus Martius, DIA, theaters and arenas.
Sean Ingle: Don't forget to use HoteITully.ᴄᴏm when booking your room. This web site will compare hundreds of hotel sites and usually will have rooms much cheaper compared to others! Thank me later! This hotel is one of the highest rated in this area. I've been staying here for a long time. If you decide to stay here you for sure won't regret it.Stayed here recently, Very nice, comfortable room, with a view of all of downtown Detroit. Beautiful at night with the city lights. We love staying here when we " Do the town". So close to lots of great restaurants, bars and venues. Plus the casino, of course....
Anita Bosch: We parked at the Greektown parking garage for the night to celebrate my husbands best friends wedding, only to come out and see our truck had been stripped. Cameras at both ends of the lane but no one wants to pull the videos. We are not talking about small stuff… the took the step rails off!
Alex Cwiek: We had a large group booked in 3 rooms months in advance. Upon check in, 2 of the 3 double bed rooms were switched single bed rooms. The hotel provided Cold War era roll away beds instead. 2 of the 3 rooms reeked of cigarette smoke. After checkout we were charged an additional $310 per room for cleaning. All that was left behind were a few pizza boxes, towels in the restroom and empty water bottles. Absolutely insane and borderline criminal. I wish Google had a 0 star option.
Larry Lamberti: There computer system was down. One lady working the front desk checking guests in by pencil and paper and answering phones. Was a bit of a longer process than it should have been.Rooms: 4/5|Service: 3/5|Location: 4/5 …More
Mike Hastings: Top notch experience EXCEPT - multiple calls for extra pillows resulted in being told on the final call that they were out of pillowsRooms: 5/5|Service: 3/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great view, Quiet …More

Aloft Detroit at The David Whitney: what do users think?
C: Nice location and many amenities surrounding the hotel. However, ensure you carefully store all of your valuables, check the room and maybe even take a picture of your room before you check out to ensure you have gotten everything. Upon calling several times after my stay regarding my item, cleaning staff provided that they have not been found after providing details regarding where they were in the room.
Marcus: For this price, I think you would have a better experience staying in other places. We are travelling with a pet and we stay here for a night and The Henry Autograph Collection. First off, I’m shock that they don’t have complimentary water in the lobby and there is no breakfast. In our room there is a couple hours that we have hear loud music coming from somewhere. TBH, we could just come in and take a look at the lobby then leave.
Eugene Furman: Stayed for one night using Marriott bonvoy points. Was not only double charged for incidentals that were to be returned, but an extra fraudulent charge was made to my card after checking out. I’ve filed a complaint with bonvoy, and filed fraud charges with my bank. Staff at ALOFT unwilling to assist – kept hanging up or transferred me to voicemail of Julie & Jordan (managers) whose voicemail boxes were full. The hotel itself was ok-ish at best. Dirty glasses were served at the bar, propane wasn't initially filled at the outside patio, and service was very average.
Mathaiya Shanmugam: Suberb stay..Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Laurel owens: May 2023 reviewWe stayed for 3 nights and were treated to an upgraded room. A corner king on the 9th floor. The lighting is still weirdly setup in this room too but the view was wonderful. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful AND we were advised at checkin about maid service. I have adjusted my rating from 2 to 4 stars. Get a coffee shop and a good restaurant in those empty areas in lobby and I’ll give 5 stars 😊2018- We spent 2 nights in 2018 in this beautiful old building and were pleasantly surprised at all of the modern updates in our room. The valet parking was appreciated after our long drive and the staff was pleasant and welcoming. We were able to walk to Comerica Park within 5 minutes. It is quite expensive but we were happy to be staying within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go.Sept 2022 ReviewThis was our 3rd stay here and things have changed! Our room was horrible - on the inside with only a view of the building - couldn’t even see the sky! The lighting is confusing and haphazard - the bathroom light switch is by the front door and the bedroom area has no overhead lights and very dim light over bed. We had no housekeeping service AT ALL over the three nights we stayed and when we checked out and complained they told us we needed to request it - which we were NEVER told! There is no restaurant or even a Starbucks there anymore; only a bar. The “free” water in our room had already been opened and so had the body lotion. There were 5 tissues shoved in the tissue box of varying colors. The front desk staff varied from very friendly to kinda rude.We are Marriott Elite members and are so dissatisfied and disappointed with how bad the room they gave us was.Probably will NOT stay here again
Derrick Osborne: This place is amazing! Very kind staff and I was fortunate to have a great view of Tigers stadium. Room 815Everything was great!Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury, Quiet …More
Heather Allen: Absolutely stunning hotel. Everyone from valet to front desk to F&B attendants were so helpful & kind. Jennifer in valet and Jordan at the front desk were particularly wonderful. BAJ Glass: I really wanted a great stay. A huge planned special trip with my son. 500 dollar stay to be at Aloft Hotel. Planned tigers game. Game cancelled and rescheduled tomorrow. Which cant afford another special night here. Then, my son is huge basketball fan so we can at least watch the NBA playoffs in the room. But unfortunately, the satellite TV does not work in the room due to when it rains. So we sit here, with nothing and no effort from largely empty hotel to assist or do what they can. Just very disappointing, cause we could've stayed at a budget hotel and received much more for much much much less. We'll make the best, but this will be a one time and one night stay unfortunately. In reply to the review.I do appreciate the response. I understand you think the weather was what ruined the event. Ultimately, the point of the staff never asking the simple question of is there anything we can do to help? especially the manager sitting at the desk, had zero concern for any kind of customer satisfaction. I did raise my review to 3 stars as I know reviews matter and the fact that at least there is an avenue that a customer can get some sort of response of someone that cares, does mean something.
Nichole Thomas: will definitely stay here whenever I’m in Detroit
A.M. Land: This was my daughter and I first visit to Detroit Michigan. I joined her as she attended Chlöe: The In Pieces Concert Tour at the Fillmore. The Aloft was the perfect location, walking distance to the venue and excellent eateries. Upon arrival, the front desk staff were absolutely amazing. They all clearly enjoy what they do. We were greeted with smiles and checked in expeditiously. They were accommodating, attentive and genuinely admire their roles. I cannot say enough about how Happy & Friendly they were. They provided things to do in the area, restaurant recommendations etc. Kayla, Desmon and Jordan are all assets to this establishment. They deserve every bonus, incentives and wage increases offered. Thank you for hiring such polite professionals! This Trio made our visit the most pleasant stay ever.Rooms: SpaciousSafety: Really appreciated the extra security measurement with the key card access for the elevator.Walkability: Near the Fillmore and other Theatres in the area.
Eric Bleecker: This is a copy/paste of my Trip Advisor review:The Greater Detroit Area suffered a power outage from Wednesday February 22 to the following Tuesday the 28th. My house was without power for five days until Sunday night. Anyway, I booked a hotel through Expedia and when I got there, I was told that the hotel was overbooked by third parties and even though I had paid, there was no room waiting for me. So I'm stuck downtown with a very cold fiance looking for a place. The next hotel we checked was also completely full.So I thought to myself, what's the fanciest, nicest hotel downtown that I can think of since we were already down there and all the hotels I checked in the suburbs earlier that day were also sold out. That's when The David Whitney came to mind. I had never been there though and went on a recommendation. We get there and I ask the concierge, David, if they have any rooms and explained the situation. He said they have a pending cancellation and if I'd like to stay and wait in the hotel bar, he would see what he could do. Well, let me tell you did he make it happen. My fiance and I got comped drinks and after about 20 minutes, our room was ready. The price for the night was 396 which included valet parking. Pricey but the building and room were fantastic. The David Whitney Building was built over a hundred years ago as a mixed office building. It got renovated about a decade ago into the 5 star hotel it is today. Our room was spacious and had a lovely view overlooking Woodward Ave. The room was divided in three sections, the sitting area with a couch and two chairs, table and TV. Next was the bathroom with an enclosed glass door shower that rose about 7 feet in the 8 foot shower. There was also a mini-fridge, coffee maker and glasses. Lastly was the sleeping area and it featured a King size bed as well as a desk and chair, a bench, TV and two night end tables. When we woke up the next morning, we were able to call the concierge from our room and book another night! Desmond helped us with that and did a wonderful job. He even told me that Aloft Hotels were a Marriot chain and I could use my Marriot Rewards! The price for the next night, which once again included valet parking, was 436. Access to the building is available 24/7 so you're not locked out if you stay our late on the town like we did Friday night.Aloft Detroit also has a hotel bar called WXYZ and the bartender, Kevin, explained that all Alofts have a bar called WXYZ, no relation to the TV channel haha. Drinks there are affordable and strong. I love this hotel and can't wait to stay there again, hopefully under better circumstances. I'd like to thank the entire staff at Aloft Detroit, especially David, Desmond, and Kevin for their service and hospitality. 10/10
Dan McMillan: From the personalized welcome to the spectacular views of Comerica Park, this is the best place to stay downtown. Centrally located and within walking distance of many restaurants and bars. Thick walls result in a great night's sleep.Walkability: Short walk to Ford Field and Comerica Park.
Zach Mounsey: Beautiful hotel, great location, poor service. We had a rough night here - lots of rowdy partying on a weekend stay. The front desk offered to waive our valet charge. We still got charged. After several calls and emails to management, the charge still hasn't been reversed.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 1/5|Location: 5/5 …More

I needed to have something printed in color and Dalano was happy to do that for me. Especially when he had to go to the other side of the building to print what I needed. He went out of his way to help me and that meant a lot. I hope he reads this because he is very appreciated.

My wife and son had the stuffed chicken, which they said was very good. The salads had a delicious dressing of cherries and walnuts i.e. Michigan salad. The bartenders, servers very quick and friendly.Noteworthy details: The place is beautiful! It was just a skip and a hop from St. Aloysius Catholic Church, where the wedding mass, took place.

Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center: what do users think?
Linda Brazier: Just stopped in at one of the bars inside the Marriott waiting on my friend. This place is so over priced and they offer no clear ice for bourbon, they do not keep Patron refrigerated. I can go on on . Nope the Detroit Marriott is not worth it. The bartender was great though I feel sorry for the staff. They need more from the hotel to service customers.
sic “sicduk” duk: Great view and location, but pricey stay to pair with already premium priced room. No room service, costly yet limited breakfast and dining options, lots of walking needed to find anything. It was a good experience but likely not choosing this as a destination for future visits.
Dean Eiden: Near the heart of downtown Detroit. Perfect location right on the waterfrontRooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Lovely Lynn aka Ms Unstoppable: Beautiful hotel and very helpful, courteous staff! I can't wait to visit the Marriott Hotel againRooms: Beautiful well decorated roomsNearby activities: This Hotel is in downtown Detroit near all of Detroit's downtown events RestaurantsSafety: Plenty of Security Guards! I felt safe during my entire visit at the MarriottFood & drinks: Everything was simply delicious
Drew Hirsch: Rooms could be updated and the checkin process improved. It took a lot of time to check in even though they weren't busy. Gym is nice and the hotel has great views. The people mover is attached to the building so it makes getting around Detroit easy. Heart plaza is right next door and Greek town and campus martius just a short walk away. Lots of near by restaurants.
Katie Prentice: I was the first time guest of this hotel about 2 weeks ago. I made the reservation, but my friend arrived before me because my flight was delayed. As a result of arriving after midnight, I was still in line after three others who arrived around the same time.I didn't manage to take any pictures of the room, but the room itself was a solid Marriott room. The beds were decent and they were plentiful pillows. Something I always appreciate. The bathroom was not exceptionally clean, I'd put it about it at meh, but the sheets and towels were fresh and we did have soap provided.Unfortunately, even after asking several times, during my entire 5-day stay, we only received housekeeping one time. The three times I asked at the front desk and gave them my room number, they told me that daily housekeeping should still be happening. Clearly this is an ongoing issue for this hotel. I was really surprised, because they could just as easily have said no, it wasn't included daily.Depending on the purpose of my travel, I'm potentially okay with less than daily housekeeping service (if I know in advance), only if there is an appropriate towel bar on which to put my towel. This hotel has one tiny bar in the bathtub area and a hook on the door. That's not acceptable for two or more humans who need to dry towels.I'm a relatively mellow traveler, but this was a very weird situation.I ate one time in the lobby restaurant for breakfast and ordered a pretty standard item and it was fine. Nothing special, but it was a good amount of food. The coffee was a little weak at the breakfast.Otherwise, I did visit the lobby bar one afternoon with several friends, and we experienced excellent service from the bartenders.I'm not sure what's going on with Marriott computers, but this appears to be 4/4 recent stays where my bonvoy points and nights were not credited to my account. I think it's because my friend checked in first and this somehow balled up my reservation. Now I have to wait 10 days to find out anything. The front desk staff are clearly overwhelmed. I believe they are doing the best they can, and every one of them was polite including arriving at midnight and departing later in the week at 6:00 a.m.I stayed here because this was the host hotel for an event I attended. I honestly don't know if I would go back voluntarily. The views are fun if you can look over into Canada; my view the other way into the city was interesting but nothing special. The architecture is fascinating, but if I return to Detroit I'll probably stay somewhere else.
Darrel Boos: I had to call the front desk dozens of times over the course of 3.5 hours just to get some toilet paper so that I could use the toilet in my room.Nearby activities: Allot of things to do a see nearbyWalkability: Allot of things to do nearbyFood & drinks: Nice restaurants nearby
shiquiona hobson: Very beautiful place to stay at but I’ve been calling since Sunday because my card was over charged and the lady who answer the phone put me on hold for a minute. I hung up and called back no answer at all . Even today I’ve been calling it just rings . This is very sad , hope they get they staff under controlRooms: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Location: 4/5Hotel highlights Luxury, Great view, Romantic, Great value …More
Lori Wilson: Food service was horrible for the MDP Legacy Dinner. Food was cold.Service: 1/5 …More
Chris McKerrow: Really 3.5 stars. Check in often one's first experience with a hotel and needs improvement. Long lines and understaffed, while staff was very nice I was told at 3pm that check in was at 4 and room wasn't ready. I waited for a text until 4:30 and waited again in line only to be told I still didn't have a room. After making my case, the receptionist was able to find a room for me. Rooms were Marriott standard - comfortable and functional. Elevators are old and there aren't enough for the number of people staying here - and, one day I was on the elevator stuck between floors for a few minutes. I have to give the staff a shout-out - restaurant staff works hard in a busy bar. Receptionists are all very helpful but in the end it's a 3.5 star stay.
Nurgül Kılıç: The location is really nice, I definitely recommend you to stay
Carrie Adams: I’m a very mellow hotel guest. I don’t look for minor issues to complain about and let many things roll off my back. I’ve literally never complained at a Marriott hotel. Ever. This hotel is an awful example of the Marriott chain. One thing I cannot abide is consistent poor service. This Marriott is consistent in only one area. Bad service.First day, I had the great luck to get it wait in a super long check in line not once but twice. I had checked in via the app the evening before, as I usually do. I arrived before posted check-in time but wanted to drop my luggage while waiting for the room. After waiting in line for about half an hour, I was informed that a generic request I had added when booking (king bed, nice view if possible) would prevent the mobile key from alerting me to the room availability. No problem, they will call me as soon as the room is available. My phone number was confirmed, I asked about leaving my luggage, where I was directed to take it back down to a lower floor (where I originally entered) to drop off with bell services. The main entrance *does not* have any type of bell services signs and bell services is in a hidden side door. Really odd. The bell services person has been the only bright spot in this whole ordeal (isn’t that a sad statement). He was great and lovely in general. After wandering for several hours and it now being AFTER check-in time with no phone call as promised and no alert, I headed back to the hotel where I was lucky enough to wait in another 45 minute line. The front desk person was obviously exhausted and overworked, but was helpful in providing directional cues because this hotel is not intuitive designed to say the least. Finally got into my room over an hour after the check-in time and after waiting over an hour in two lines. Yay!Housekeeping was not providing their a-game. Hair from a past guest was left on the bathroom door (a lovely, large clump of hair). Gross. No hand soap was provided, so to wash my hands I need to go to the shower and use the body gel and wall-locked pump to get some soap. Classy.(I’ve confirmed with several other guests staying here that they too did not receive hand soap so this is a THING apparently and not an oversight as we all individually assumed…what a weird choice to make for cost-cutting. Who needs clean hands?!?!)Crumbs aligned the floor between the two beds. Again, I’m pretty mellow so I figured the beds were clean and I could handle not hanging my towels on the bathroom hook to avoid a clump of gross hair until housekeeping came by the next day.The word count limits me from clearly expressing all of the issues, but as succinctly as possible: dirty hotel room, no housekeeping service yet during my stay (and finally requesting today was met with what I can only describe as annoyance that I asked for something that should have been done), two hours to get ice that was ultimately unusable, broken doors, broken safe and many hours to even get someone to show up to make a super simple fix (reset the code), and on and on and on. I didn’t ask but a front desk person assured me that a manager would DEFINITELY be following-up about the issues. One guess as to whether the manager has called to follow up. Yeah, this is obviously a cultural issue. It starts at the top. There is zero accountability or follow-up and most definitely zero sense of urgency to fix issues that they have created themselves.AVOID AVOID AVOID
Noe Guevara: I just had 2 watches and 2 bottles of cologne stolen from my room. Front desk told me they can't check who accessed my room via a key card and that there's no cameras they can check. Filing a police report now. DO NOT STAY HERE!Rooms: 1/5|Service: 1/5 …More

Naomi Tingler: Valet was quick and friendly.Check in was quick.Bar located downstairs, strong drinks, fair prices, and friendly service. Our room had a beautiful view.
Jessica Henry: This hotel is quite the gem in Downtown Detroit. So refreshing to see true full service boutique hotels absolutely thriving! The service levels in this hotel are outstanding. And the cuisine in The Apparatus Room is second to none in the area. The hotel itself is rustic modern, built into the former fire headquarters building in Detroit. Just stunning!

Saad Gasgous: Update 4/2023: this place is consistently good, which is a great thing! I highly recommend it.Haven't stayed overnight but love the apparatus room restaurant and the look and feel of the hotel! Great location and nice ppl for sure!
Elijah Auger: Almost perfect, but two big misses, each worth a whole star according to my scientific calculation.First, what was good: the location is fantastic, the building is absolutely beautiful. One of the best restaurants and cocktail bars in the city shares the building. The rooms are spacious and well outfitted. The bathrooms are gorgeous. The king size bed was extremely comfortable. Blackout curtains, soft sheets, beautiful architectural details, good HVAC. Like I said, this room is almost perfect. So why did it lose two stars:1. the mini fridge had a temperature display that was almost as bright as the sun, which could not be turned off unless you unplug the fridge. Even with the blackout curtains, this room had a bright blue glow all night long, pointed directly at the bed.2. The shower head in the bathroom was among the strangest I've ever seen, and completely unusuable. This thing had a grand total of 9 holes for water to come out, and boyhowdy did the water come out. Very fitting with the firehouse theme, as it felt like I was being sprayed by a firehose. I decided to forgo the shower until I got home later that day. These two issues could probably be solved for under $400 per room, and then this is a pure five star hotel.
Zappa Brannigan: This place is SICK! So comfy! So clean! The room service food was bummy though… 😂
Laura Fiorino: Amazing building and staff!
Ryan Pettey: Can't say enough how impressed we were with this place. They managed the perfect mix between keeping the charm of the old building but adding modern finishes and conveniences. My wife said her Paloma was the best she had. And the brunch in the morning was seriously good. We'll definitely stay there again and we'll absolutely eat there again.Rooms: The room was clean and modern. They added outlets with USB plugs which was a great touchNearby activities: Tons of restaurants, close to all the stadiums, the opera house, the DIA, I'm really you're within a 10 min Lyft of everything downtown.Safety: The area is really safe, anyone who says anything to the contrary hasn't been downtown in probably 15 years.Walkability: easy walk to campus martius, literally across the street from the conference center, a block off not too bad of a walk to the Fox theater, but we took a Lyft which at a prime time right outside the Fox was about 30 bucks.Food & drinks: Food and drinks were crazy good!
E Musgrave: Fab stay! Room was modern and clean. Restaurant was available and decent food. The valets were super quick too.Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Luxury …More
Jonathan Glymph: Great experience staying in the Chairman’s suite!

Ahlissa Vaubel: Beautiful property. Slept so well, which is always a wonderful surprise in a hotel.Only thing I would change is the lighting in the bathroom. The bane of anyone needing to apply makeup is hotel bathroom lighting. Either change it or put a mirror in the living space by windows.

Christina Janek: My favorite place to stay when I'm in town for work. The rooms are spacious and well appointed - blackout curtains, full fridge and freezer, coffee maker in room, dishwasher and dishes, desk and office chair, and separate bar-height table and chairs for eating in your room. Add to that the complimentary breakfast (which is on point!) and the fireplace/lounge area in the back, plus being in the heart of downtown Detroit and within mere blocks of countless dining options, and it's a no-brainer that this place has it all.

Denise Toler: Stayed here in March for a Red Wings hockey game. Being able to park and walk to the arena was great! Felt very safe and the walk was only about a block. The room was comfortable, the bed was comfortable, and the service was very accommodating. We will definitely stay here again for our trips to see the Red Wings play!Nearby activities: Walking distance to Little Caesar's Arena
Becca Anderson: Spacious rooms & attached bathrooms. Staff was super friendly. We appreciated their responsiveness when the heat was too high in our room. Would recommend reupholstering the furniture in the rooms as it was all pretty worn. Perfect location for any downtown sporting events.Rooms: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Melody Kruger: Beautiful inn - main floor, hallways, and guest rooms. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed. The entire mansion has the feel of luxury lodging. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location cannot be beat. Just one block from LCA. Parking (paid) is right out the back door. There was no water glass in the room, but this was probably an oversight. Communication could have been better, but the overall experience made up for this.Addendum: On my second stay here, I noticed a few things that could improve. The rooms need to have a water glass, either disposable or glass, in the room. Again, I had to go looking for one in the kitchen. For the price, I expected a breakfast spread better than the average chain hotel cereal, yougurt, and store-bought pastries. The inn is still a very nice place to stay, with an unbeatable location if you’re going to LCA, but next year I’ll go for cheaper lodging and deal with a little transportation inconvenience. And be aware that you will pay $25 for parking in the “inn’s lot,” above and beyond the night’s lodging cost.
Zach Waas Smith: Beware! This place has achieved an *aesthetic*. But as we all know, looks aren’t everything. Aside from the authentic decor, there were no redeeming qualities about the experience of our 1-night stay in a "premium" room. I stay in a lot of hotels and splurged on this place for a special occasion, only to be sorely disappointed. You want a 4-star hotel? Save your money and go elsewhere.1. Questionable security at best. The lock on the room door was a standard handle lock that was finicky and difficult to operate. The key would spin and spin - I was never sure it locked and there are no additional locks on the door (deadbolts, chains, etc).2. Once in the room, it was very cold and we discovered it was only heated by a small space heater on the floor. Not quite what I expect from any hotel, much less a “4-star” hotel, but I figured we'd try it... We unfortunately didn't discover it was inadequate until we woke up shivering at 3am.3. There are no basic amenities in the room (i.e. coffee maker, mini fridge, cups or drinking glasses, not even a table for our stuff!). We looked up and the chandelier was not secured to the ceiling properly, either. Simply not 4-star quality.4. *THIS* is the kicker. Got in the jacuzzi tub (that we paid extra $ for) and when we turned on the jets, a bunch of disgusting crud came blasting out. Absolutely horrifying. See the photos.5. Jumped in the shower to wash off the nasty slime, but the shower was also janky! The knobs were falling off the wall, difficult to operate, and the temperature kept wildly fluctuating. We eventually got it “good enough” and took an uncomfortable shower.6. Got out of the shower and discovered how scratchy and rough the towels were. We’re talking bottom-of-the-barrel budget motel quality. Come on! For $375/night, at least go to Meijer and buy me a soft towel! lol but truly, just terrible. Oh, and no towel racks or hooks anywhere to hang them on.7. Are the beds from 1887, too?? I’ve slept on pull out couches more comfortable than this bed. It collapses in the middle (like a deflating air mattress) and you can feel the springs jabbing you. Give me a pillow top, at least! Again, NOT 4-star quality.8. Even just getting INTO the hotel is weird. The front door is locked and has no windows. You have to ring a doorbell to be let in, but the doorbell was missing so we had to call some phone number and eventually somebody would come get us. Even once we got our keys, we still couldn’t use the front door and had to walk around to the back to get in. And they were using the parking lot as event parking, so it was PACKED with cars.9. Breakfast? Served? It's barely a run of the mill continental. And they awkwardly forced all the guests to sit at the one table, even though there were other tables in the sitting area. Finally, to top it all off, when I requested to speak with a manager about my stay, there conveniently wasn't one there. I asked them to call me when they were in, but of course they never did and when I called them, she was never there. The ladies on staff when I was there were nice enough, but whoever is running this joint should be ashamed. Thanks for the laughably paltry refund, I guess, but this is without a doubt NOT a 4-star hotel!
Teresa Corey: The location is great for sporting events, restaurants and the theatres BUT the property and rooms are un-kept and some of the staff was rude and seemed irritated that we were there. The main floor is beautiful but the guest rooms are un-kept. Also, the parking lot is rented out to a third-party that parks cars for other events in the city. They night we stayed here, there was a pistons game. My husband is handicapped and when we left the property to go to dinner, we were told that our handicap spot would be there when we returned; it was not. The lot was full and they wanted our keys to park our car in a difference location. We refused as we wanted our car where we were staying and they were rude and unaccommodating! The room we reserved was totally different than what they displayed in the pictures. The bed was horrible; the springs in the mattress was poking me in the back and it sagged so badly in the middle, I had a hard time getting out of it. Everything in our room was dusty and the air return vents in the room and the bathroom were covered in dust and grime! The hallway outside our room was dirty, crumbs from some type of food. The bathroom floor was dusty and the cover plate for the bathroom switch was disgusting. Our room was hot when we checked in. They closed off the vent in our room. When we were heading out to dinner, we asked that, If we did get cold, could we get a blanket. We were told that there was a blanked in the armoire. When we returned, our room was freezing and we couldn’t reach the vents to open them again. We found someone down on the main floor and asked if we could get a blanked. She said she was busy but would “try” to get us a blanked in about 20 minutes; she never showed! I woke up with a sore throat and dripping nose from being so cold. The ceiling light bulbs were burnt out.We went down for the continental breakfast. The lady that was there was rude and seemed irritated that we were there. She asked if we wanted "fresh fruit" but when I went to eat it, the fruit was rotten! I decided to have a bagel but it was stale and she was irritated that I didn’t want to eat it. I asked for milk to have some cereal and she watched me as I poured it into the bowl and when I put it down, she took it away. She watched our every move; it made us very uncomfortable! Also, the walls are paper thin so we heard everything anyone did the entire night. This was not a pleasant experience and we will be staying elsewhere in the future!
Mariana Zayas: Loved the historic setting and decor. It was close to the Eastern Market that we visited for a wedding reception. The vibe is great but the walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbors clearly. The mattress was fine - not great but also not uncomfortable. Bella Reyes: Booked through a 3rd party. I don’t recommend that because you will never know about all the hidden fees until you arrive. Got there and the deposit is more than the room. Ontop of that there is 25$ parking fee, why? We already paid to stay there why would we pay to park? The room was just that a room with a space heater to keep us warm. The bathroom had a huge shower , that was the best part of the room. The room was cold, not clean, and didn’t even look like anyone cared about the I kind at all. I was shocked that I had to pay 250 deposit (reservations never said that-the hotel site does though (but again 3rd party sign up). I don’t think this place should be charging so much for a room, charging a deposit that exceeds the amount of the room, and charges you for parking your car their while you stay your stay with them. The staff was shocked when I came early but that’s because they didn’t bother answering their phones the 20 times they were called between me and the place that helped me book it in the first place. Check in is at 4pm and out at 11am, not even 24hrs and that’s ontop of all those fees. Save yourself a trip & find a hotel. You will get more for your money and feel better about it.
Rebecca De Waard: Room was on the 3rd floor with no elevator so not good for us old people, especially when you want to get a cup of coffee. No way to regulate room temperature, the fan in the bathroom couldn't be shut off, the TV didn't work,no coffeemaker in room, continental breakfast was minimal at best, but the coffee was good, 1 of the beds was very soft and uncomfortable, pillows were so-so. For $250 a night + $25 parking, it's not worth it. The best thing I can say about this place was the Hostess was awesome; also, it's a close walk to Little Caesars Arena.
Jessica Campbell: Great location, staff was attentive and kind, room was mediocre.Rooms: 3/5|Service: 4/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Max Sobolevskiy: Well, I have mixed feelings:Pros:– Unbelievable vibes of an old restored house with many authentic things– The proper spring (not bloody foam) mattress– I had two-level room with the oriel window which I think is the best room in the property– Location is greatCons:– I met two ladies on the check-in desk. One of them was really nice and friendly, the other one was arrogant and was gaslighting me about not working WiFi– Yes, WiFi didn't work in my particular room #32. To use it I needed to get out of the room.– Breakfast are just bagels and fruits.– When I asked to live my stuff until my flight, that arrogant lady was not happy and said "usually we don't allow it". Wow! I've been to hundred of hotels and this one is first where they "usually we don't allow it". And guess what? Finally she let my stuff to be left and it took zero efforts from her time.
Gayle Krufal: Safety: The city felt very safe, and was much cleaner than I expected.Walkability: Great location!. Walking distance from ALL of the major sport stadiums in Detroit. Our room had a view of Comerica Park and Ford Field. We were in town for a concert at The Masonic Temple Theater and ended up walking back to the hotel (about 1.5 miles) at night.
Russ Newlin: Recently stayed there for one night during a hockey game. Don’t expect much. It’s an old house with old furniture and old decor. Be aware that they charge extra for parking. I was not told that upon arrival but noticed the charge on my card. When I called to question it, they said it was communicated to me upon checkin. This is coming from the exact same lady that checked me in. I even read the fine print when I was initialing the check in paperwork as she told me no one ever reads it. If I would have been told that up front, then I would have parked in one of the many open spots on the street for free. Ok place to lay your head after a hockey game just one block from the arena, but don’t expect anything fancy. And sure don’t expect them to care about what was or was not communicated to you once you have departed.

Mike Kinney: Just stayed here, the wife loved the idea of staying in an old mansion, we were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was over the top but in a good way, wrought iron staircase to a sitting room in the turret was my favourite . We went to a red wings game, which was 2 minutes walk away, neighborhood looked and felt very safe and friendly to walk around. Will definitely stay here again.
Arielle Hemingway: We went for a Wings game and the location was even better than I had originally anticipated! Inside was beautiful!Rooms: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
