La Lanterna: what do users think?
practice happy: Will definitely return when in Detroit. Very attentive and friendly staff. Food super fresh and tasty. Tried the calamari (battered, fried, lightly sauced, slightly spicy), pizza (nice chew). Later ordered door dash to hotel. The chicken Parm on spaghetti and Bolognese on tagliatelle were amazing: fresh and delicious.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese, Chicken Parmesan, Calamari Arrabbiata …More

Christopher Iloff: La Lanterna is one of our go to places for a great meal, wonderful atmosphere, and amazing drinks. Pizza, Pasta, Calamari, and did I mention cocktails. Yno and everyone at La Lanterna goes out of their way to make you smile, relax, and enjoy every minute of your time there. Back to the excellent adult beverages. From his signature Dominican Old Fashioned to the magical gin concoctions he stirs up for my wife, Yno always seems to know exactly what to make for his guests. Awesome bartender and an all around great person. Go as soon as you can. Just don't take our seats at the bar!
Jessica Iloff: Always an awesome experience with the best bartender Ino and Rob as your host. Italian food is at best and you can’t go wrong with the pizza too!Kid-friendliness: Family oriented - fee free to bring your kiddos!
Donya Ahmadian: We came to La Laterna for the first time for my partners birthday and we had been eyeing this spot for QUITE some time. From the service, to the ambience, to the quality of the food, drinks, and atmosphere- this place was a 10-star worthy experience. We loved every moment. Our sweet waitress Corinne was an absolute dream- so incredibly kind and accommodating. The entire place feels so homey and is worth the trip!!!! Come down for yourself please- you won’t regret it!!!! We got the Maragarita pizza, lasagne, chicken, almond cake, and bruschetta and WOW!!! All of it was DIVINE!!!
Simon Michell: the best place for a family meal in detroit is la lanterna. food and cocktail 10 to 10 drinks and cocktail first class. you have to ask for Yno the bartender from punta cana is the best he makes a high quality espresso martini the best in all of Michigan
Rhonda Gilbert: Every dish I've tried has been delicious! My favorites are the salmon fettuccine, the lemon chicken wings, and the tiramisu for dessert. Be sure to ask Ynocencio to make you a delicious cocktail!
Raquel Garcia: Went with my family to celebrate my birthday. Pizza was ok, chicken wings were delicious. The only bad thing about this place was the restroom, one of the dirties ones I have ever seen. After seeing the restroom I wasn't comfortable just thinking how clean the kitchen was.
Jl Sillman: Food was good, service was decent, atmosphere ok. Problem was value. Portion sizes are pretty small for the pricing. Good food but very overpriced.Food: 5/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 3/5 …More
AL TROMBETTA: Not the greatest Italian food lasagna was not great but different tasting with a strange sauce An Italian restaurant that does not have penne or mostaccioli noodles. Out of a jar marinara sauce that I would not serve at home I make my own. we had a table of 6 with only 3 other people in the whole place and it was so noisy and it was not us that is how the place is because of huge mirrors on the wall the sound bounces off them. The waitress would not split our bill up even though we were the only people she had to wait on, can you say lazy. We won't be back.

J A: Their chicken Milanese sandwich is delicious. So are the garlic fries that come with it. Pizza is excellent too.
mark scaddan: Food was great. Service was embarrassing. Six of us Arrived on time for our reservation and was rushed through every part of the delicious meal. 20% gratuity added automatically for horrible service. Impolite, and at time rude trying to rush us out. Worth the food but avoid for service.
Timothy Fenech: Sun eve 630pm arrival on time with a reservation made well in advance with no warning that they were closing soon etc. We were a table of 6. Food was good. Service was not rude but not overly friendly and definitely abrupt and rushed and 20% gratuity added without being warned or advised. Main dishes being brought out on top of and in the middle of appetizers and salads course. Service ruined our dinner more and more as it progressed. Won’t go back. Won’t recommend. Unfortunate because food and prices are fine.

San Morello: what do users think?
James Randel Virgin hair & Beauty Collection: Beautiful restaurant and beautiful staff. Can’t wait to come back. First time visitor was very impressed
Jennifer Sitto: In from LA but from Detroit originally, San morello has been a staple since the shinola hotel opened so we made a res for my last weekend in town — food and service were great, but was surprised to see our bill with $26 martini’s on it - ordered an espresso martini with tequila— and the bartender assumed represado was the way to go I guess? Worked industry for 10 years and it’s a known fact that if you want to sell top shelf, you ask if they have a pref on their liquor… I barely pay $26 for a martini in LA… so it’s laughable that I got duped here. Def ask for your preference unless you want to be upsold without asking..
Aaron Blair: Good food and great service. Seasonal menu so it may have something new for you. Can say enjoyed the "Grandmother's Ravioli" a more traditional dish with classic flavor profiles with a bit of a twist, really enjoyed it.
T T: I would not recommend the the pizza as the crust is as thin as a crepe. I would recommend the crispy potatoes. The service was.....well made me feel like my money was dirty and they were doing me a favor by waiting on me.Food: 3/5|Service: 1/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More

Stacy Marino: Dined here on Mother's day, and I have to say it was great. We had a reservation and was pleasantly greeted and promptly seated by the hostess. The serving staff is a very well orchestrated team, which provides excellent service even on a hectic day such as Mothers day.The menu is a perfect size menu, the dishes seem simple, however they're prepared and served completely elegantly and the flavor is wow. The cocktails were great as well.Desert. I ordered the coconut cake, which was just amazing. Even though I was full I could have eaten like 3 more lol. My daughter got the strawberry tiramisu (I sampled hers as well) and that was amazing too. - looking at the desert menu I would have liked one of everything 😋There's not one negative thing I could say about dining here. Because even if you have a question about something on the menu, they happily explain.5 or 10 stars - thank you for a great mother's day.
D Jordan: The restaurant was in a great location, however their service was terrible. The hostess that was assigned to assist us appeared to be unqualified for her position. She was able to under simple request like adjusting our table due to a child seat. There were several other families with baby strollers that were accommodated. Our hostess however did not seem interested in assisting us with our car seat. She then went to get a manager who appeared to have been bothered that he had to come and speak with us. He too was not interested in trying to accommodate us at all. Being that it was Mother’s Day and places were aware of the influx in service, you would think they would have been better prepared to handle most situations. Again, they accommodated two other families and their seating requests but failed to assist us or even be willing to try. I’ve dined at some of the finest restaurants in Detroit and I was hoping to add this one to the list. But I will never spend my money with businesses that don’t respect the fact that they are only thriving due to customers who visit their establishments. I hope they read this review and make some changes in they way they serve their customers.
Sierra Davis: Recommended dishes Carmellini’S Lamb Meatballs, Ricotta Dip, Lamb MeatballsMore
David Sayah: This was an enjoyable evening. We drank a couple of improvised sweet mocktails, strawberry and lime. Our starter was the housemade focaccia with roasted asparagus & basil pesto. For our entrées, we ordered the parmesan risotto with asparagus, meyer lemon, fontina d’aosta and my grandmothers ravioli. For the dessert, we did the torta setteveli chocolate-hazelnut layer cake & fior di latte gelato. Everything listed above falls under the same category, mediocre. I’m not dying to come back to get any of them again in all transparency. We were serviced by Brianna who was helpful and descriptive about the menu. The atmosphere is gorgeous, it’s in the shinola hotel! I’d suggest giving this place a try but perhaps ordering things other than what my guest and I got.Parking: I had to valet, very limited parking options otherwise.

Daphne Navarro: We made a reservation for a table on the patio, attracted by the pleasant ambiance shown in the photos. However, upon arrival, we were disappointed to find that the patio was adjacent to the street, separated only by a fence, and the tables appeared dirty. After expressing our concerns, we were relocated to a makeshift table, but following a conversation with the waitress, we were eventually seated at a more suitable spot. The food failed to impress. I opted for the duck, which seemed to have been boiled and lightly fried to achieve a crispy skin. Unfortunately, the presentation fell short of expectations. My husband ordered the saltimbocca, but the meat was slightly tough, and the accompanying sauce lacked flavor. What struck us as unusual was the separate charges for each component of my 2-year-old daughter's pasta dish: Pasta $10 + Alfredo Sauce $10 + Chicken $9.Considering the quality of the cuisine, we found the prices to be steep. Our bill amounted to $270 USD, encompassing 1 appetizer, 2 main courses, our daughter's pasta, 2 glasses of wine, and 2 coffees. Additionally, a 20% service charge was added at the end.The highlight of the evening was the kindness displayed by our waitress, Tatiana. However, the overall quality of the food and the establishment itself left much to be desired. It is unlikely that we will revisit this place in the future.
AJ: Poor service and mediocre food. Not to mention, it’s very pricey. A total waste of evening.

Everything about this restaurant was top tier! Highly recommend experiencing for yourself.

Ms. L: Eas told brunch ended at 3:30 when I made the reservations, got there at was the told menu's were not available till 4. I had someplace to be, so I partook in brunch, even though I don't like brunch. The food was awful. They did not put out fresh food. Fish was dried, prime rib was fatty, risotto was stuck to pan, need I say more. Will not be going back, even though it was recommended.
Silvia Guadiana: We've been going to Mario's for a few years now. The service is always great and the food is delicious. My favorite is the filet mignon.
Ratna Garapati: We had a very bad dining experience at Mario’s tonight. We went as a group of 6 including 2 small kids and 2 elderly adults. As we are not big eaters we ordered 2 heavy appetizers and 3 entrees but requested 2 extra soups, one to be shared between the kids. The server kept making his own decisions for us and gave each kid a full soup, which neither of them ate. Also he took it upon himself to give us an entree of pasta instead of the separate side pastas that come free with the entrees. We didn’t even make a dent in the pasta and had to pack it all to go home. When the bill came, which was over $200 we saw that he charged us $37 for the pasta entree and when we asked him about it he acted like he did us a favor for not charging for the soups. We were very disappointed with the rude service today and will not be returning to the restaurant!

Rick Behar: Had a 5 Star evening at Mario's. Life Long Detroiter, but somehow never ate here before. Sandra and Venetia our wait staff were amazing! The Chateau Briand was EPIC! Jacob Krogmeier: Or server was very nice and prompt. All of the staff seemed friendly. The food was flat and uninspired. The beef dish we got had little to no flavor and there was so much sauce you could barely find the meat.During one of the courses they brought out pasta with marinara sauce on it, it was flavorless. The restaurant felt old and very much in need of freshening up.It really looks like Mario's was at some point to tier Italian dinning, unfortunately that era has clearly passed. For the money there are much better options.
Brianna Ramsey: My husband, my daughter and I were searching for an authentic Italian restaurant to have dinner. Although we realized we were a bit under dressed upon arrival, the staff and our waitress Shawna were very courteous, polite and welcoming. Shawna explained the menu since it was our first time, and offered us great service. The food was great, our appetizers and drinks came out fast, my pasta was delicious, my husband got the filet; he loved it and my daughter had ravioli. We will definitely be making our way there again in the future.

What a shame that it went down hill!!! We will never be going back there again and I’m saddened by the whole experience from start to finish…from the host to the waiter to the food!!!
Mel: Unfortunately most of the vegetarian options are drenched in an unreasonable amount of not that great cheese. The starter salad was yummy and then everything went downhill from there with food. Giovanni's Ristorante: what do users think?
Bianca B: Made reservations and had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. Very long wait time in-between dishes, was there in total 2.5 hours. Our server was very nice and tried to be as attentive as she could. Table size was small for 4 people, we did find out we could extend the table ourselves, so that's what we did. Calamari was delicious. Alfredo serving size was small and lacked flavor. The shrimp scampi was okay.

Conor Gray: They totes hooked my cousin and the family up. For that they get some mad props. Noodles, great. I ordered the fish special. Not the best salmon I've had, My advice would be to stick to the classics.
Don Barbacci: Last night we went to Giovanni’s - hungry for some delicious Italian food — Giovanni’s did not disappoint.Reservations were a little behind - about 20 mins - before we got our table. (We were on time.)We split the Cannelloni di Carne (to die for!) and a salad.FOOD = EXCELLENTSAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT ! Lemon cake and ice cream puff covered in chocolate was served with coffee.DESSERT = EXCELLENT !A NOTE about the service:Erin was our server. She was a consummate professional. All servers say “I’m here to take care of you”. Most of the time the words ring hollow.Erin knew the menu inside and out. She was able to guide and offer opinions as to what each menu item would deliver to our palates. From the beginning, she paced the delivery of food to coincide with our desire to have a relaxed (but not RUSHED), enjoyable dinner. She was the perfect hostess as our server. THANK YOU ERIN !The only distraction for the evening, was the wait staff that filled our water glasses. After about two or three sips, he was rushing to fill up the water glass. It was almostas if it were a race to the finish. It was very annoying, especially when you’re having a conversation, and an arm is thrust in front of your face trying to find the water glass. Finally I said to him - “how about I ask you for water when I need more?” And that was the end of that…As far as the atmosphere, we found the noise level in the resturant was super loud - enough of a distraction that you had to raise your voice to be heard during conversation.Go back again ?? La Dolce Vita: what do users think?
Vince Houle: This used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but the new ownership and apparently new management is terrible! We had a reservation for 4:45 and I had to leave by 6:30 and the manager suggested I do a takeout when our meal had that gotten there at 6:15. When my friends asked if they would calm them dessert because of the terrible service the manager said no, and suggested that they are free to leave! The manager was awful, and did nothing to accommodate, and was rude, and made the experience awful! We will never go back to La Dolce Vita which is sad because it used to be one of our favorite restaurants. Also, the plans they have to make it bigger and to open it to the street side to see out more is going to ruin the intimacy of the place. I would suggest going somewhere else for dinner.
traci romo: Amazing dining experience! The food was amazing and the staff was very friendly and polite. This is truly a hidden gem in the city of Detroit
Cori Carr: Well ... the food LOOKED incredibly good and I really wanted to eat it, but unfortunately, it never came once we ordered it. After waiting for an hour and a half and watching everyone seated around us get served, pay, and leave, we left without having gotten our entrees. The appetizers were great, though. Calamari, steak tips and sweet & spicy shrimp.I was really disappointed because I had heard such good things about the food. The bussers were very attentive and my water glass was always full. The server, not so much. We had a large-ish party (two tables, one of 8 and one of 4), and we're not the easiest people in the world to wait on, I'll full on admit that. But an upscale restaurant like this should be equipped to deal with someone who asks for no sauce on their fish. After having placed our orders for entrees 30 minutes prior, we asked if they'd be out soon. We were told they had a large party of 50 and were slammed. I worked in the restaurant industry for years - that doesn't just happen. A party of 50 is something you plan way in advance, including extra staff for the night and/or limiting the menu selections of what the party can choose. We had made our reservation about 2 weeks in advance - so, they should have limited their reservations for the night or brought in extra staff. I'm not so sure I even buy this excuse - I didn't see any large parties there, and literally every other table surrounding ours got their food with no problems. So we left at 9:00 PM without having eaten - and there was actually another couple in the parking lot doing the exact same thing - leaving because their food never came.I hate to have to give it one star, but I won't be going back. Maybe if you have two people, it would be worth it, but definitely not for groups of more than 4, even if you do have a reservation.
Anthony Wilson: This was my first visit to this little hidden gem. I must say everything was amazing. From the food to the service. It was extremely busy during my visit but the staff didn’t let it get to them. The manager DAndre came to our table and introduced hisself giving it an extra touch. We will for sure be coming back.
Brendan B: Wonderful Place! Can’t go wrong with the amazing Gnocchi and Lobster Ravioli. Even got the wonderful chance to meet the manager dre who was checking on all the tables! 10/10 we would dine again!

Annee Really: I was last here before Covid-19 so was really looking forward to returning. Unfortunately my experience was such I will not be returning. Saturday night dinner with friends where the drinks and appetizers were best part. Lasagna was "meh" branzino was overcooked although the caper sauce was tasty. Risotto was overly salty but the worst part was that the Creme Brule was not bruled! The sugar topping was soft as if the custard was delivered straight out of the fridge and never torched. The service was slow like most places these days but delivery of cold bread 15 min apart from the oil and plates is not slow, it's not thinking. Silver was removed with appetizer plates and not replaced. Again, not thinking .Still on the menu is the make at your table Ceasar salad but we were told that it was not available.. Comon Man! Get it together or this place will be nothing but memories.
camille martin: This is a great place for a brunch date. Very cute and intimate. Valet parking is available. Street parking is also available. A bar for drinks. Waitstaff is pleasant.Food: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More
Rocky W: My appetite was utterly destroyed after my husband and I were singled out as a couple for mandatory gratuity. We received our bill and were told that it was up to the waiter to charge gratuity fee on the bill. Please be aware that you may be discriminated against as an African-American for visiting this restaurant.
Rosanna Hinds: Great atmosphere, delicious authentic Italian food, friendly staff, and great service. This is a hidden jewelry in the city of Detroit 💖 Do I recommend? Absolutely 💯 We left out very happy 😊

Michael Tyson: LaDolce Vita has always been a 5 in my book but last evening stopping in for a drink and appetizer at the bar was a different experience.Simple ask calamari/ bread and a drink. The bar person/ server was quick with the drinks. The calamari was undercooked. I like mine a little crispy and less chewy! But the killer was the bread which we were told was being prepared arrived after finishing my appetizer and it was cold. So it was just a matter of bringing the bread and not blaming it on the kitchen. Our server was less than enthusiastic with her job that evening and we felt her frustration! Maybe she was overworked and underpaid or maybe she just needs a new job. See her expression in my pic.!Regardless her service was POOR!Parking is Valet and professional! We gave the valet guy $20 for a tip he saiid thank you but I had to ask him for change-$10.He assumed we were giving him a $20 tip. My suggestion ask the car owner politely how much change back and not assume it’s all yours! All in all a 1/5 evening but this is not the norm. Head outside to their sexy patio for dinner or a brunch. Great atmosphere! Reservations are a MUST HAVE! Unless you want my bar experience!I highly recommend this establishment for fine dinning!
Venus MasonTheus: My husband and I celebrated our anniversary there. The moment we walked into the restaurant, we were heartily welcomed by "Antonio." We were well attended to from start to finish.Food: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Antipasto Italiano, Tiramisu Amaretto …More

Lexi: Never even been there but was going to go there for a date until I saw there overly extreme rules. Is this a school or a restaurant? Looks like they would be measuring my dress if I came lmao weird.
