Select Specialty Hospital - Grosse Pointe: what do users think?
mary mainor: The staff here has been very pleasant while caring for my sister. I would like to give a shout out to Denesha the speech therapist for being amazing and Percy and Tiffany the CNA's. The doctors are great and patient with all the questions i have. I definitely recommend this place!
Mary North: The staff here provides awesome care for my husband . The respiratory team was able to remove him from the ventilator and the speech therapist helped him communicate. Thank you to all staff!
Mike Burkell: Awesome care from all staff!
Kim Austin: My daughter was well cared for and very successful in completing her treatment plan. Staff was very caring.
t sully: They are a mini hospital within Ascension St John hospital. There 3 weeks+-.They brought me back to health after St John's ER and ICU saved my life. I can't thank them all enough and I'm here to talk about it 1 year later.
lil bubble: Such a caring group of people round the clock!!! Very family like especially zaahra Butt is one of the best😍 thanks for everything.Elisa Grubbs
Carmen Wourman: I would like to give the environmental services (Angie) who works the 6th Floor. Thanks for the Magical words Mr. Cozart will never forget those Heart Felt words of encouragement. And to Mo the respiratory technician, not a day would go pass and you wouldn't come in and check on my Dad to see if he needed anything. Mo would come stop by and tell my Dad , Tony youwe want you to get better and Breath on your ownAnd you can do it. And to the Amazing Doctors, Nurses, CNA's, Therapist and Occupational Therapist, I would like to Thank You so very much for working with my dad at time when all we had was Each one of you Fighting for MY dad's life and he pulled wrong through. Good Is Amazing AmenhAnd breathe on your own today as long as you can , come now Tony you can do it, y
Nancy McPhillips: My partner stayed here for a short time before going back to the acute care hospital. His nurses Meg and Crystal were so helpful to him and cared so much for his wellbeing.. Other staff members were helpful during his stay.My only concern was with the referral and intake process, I'm wondering if he should not have been referred or accepted in the first place. Also they do not appear to have a fully computerized chart, which may help in the continuation of care.
Frank Kayga: Usually, the staff is very good. They assist me with all my needs in a timely manner even when busy.
Christine Jones: Staff are friendly and compassionate.Patient advocate services are a great help.
Katrina Rice: Overall the care good people are friendly, they push and motivate you telling you can do it, especially the nurses including Kayla she is awesome, and all of the CNA’s and all the RT’s-they come check on me.
ivan fletcher: My Wife Marie has been in the Select Specialty Hospital in St. John Grosse pointe for several weeks now. I am amazed at the incredible care she has received. to have my wife in this facility is nothing less than a blessing. To start with when she was transferred here, I was immediately met by the director of case management who walked me through what the plan was for her care. The nursing staff is AMAZING it is impossible to call out any of them as they are all incredible, But Courtney is an example of what a Nurse should be compassionate friendly and very very good in caring for her patients. Now for the nursing assistants, all are great but Lauren Croft ....WOW always kind, always smiling, always there to help even when she is not my wife's CNA. If you want the best for someone you care about then Select Specialty Hospital should be your 1st and only choice. My wife is improving at, and incredible rate and it is only because of the specialized care she has received and continues to receive in this hospital.
Jodie: Lauren the CNA is one of the best CNAs I have ever met. She cares about her patients as individuals and provides personalized careShe came in on her day off and is working so that I can get a shower. In 2 weeks I have had my trach removed and this hospital has been amazing
Kathy Rybicki: I can’t say enough good about the care our Dad received in Select Grosse Pointe. My brothers and Dad agree. All the nurses, their assistants, and Case Manager Joshua have been responsive, caring, compassionate and knowledgeable. Some names of particularly helpful people are Debb, Tim, Char, Amy and Lauren. And I know I’m forgetting some names. One of the most frustrating experiences in a hospital is not having one point of contact, one person who oversees our elderly Father’s case. One of the many benefits at Select is having one Case Manager oversee everything. He coordinates all the moving pieces, of which there are a lot, and keeps us informed. While he gets busy, which is understandable, we have only waited more than 10 minutes once.I highly recommend Select for the care and concern of the nurses, CNA’s, Case Manager, etc and for having one point of contact and he’s exceptional.
Candice Kassab: My dad has had some of the best nurses taking care of him during his stay. Nicole, Lauren, Selam, Tiffany & Ashley thank you for all you have done to make him feel comfortable and safe. We can’t express it enough how appreciative we are. Thank you!
Michael Greve: I wanted to take a moment to thank the entire Select Services Team at St. John’s Grosse Pointe for everything you guys have done to get my father well last year. We came to your hospital in the middle of a global pandemic and my father was very critical at that time. It was so bad and uncertain that I could not see the light at the end of the tunnel. Now looking back and reflecting I can't thank everyone enough for the hard work and dedication. I can't thank Select Services enough and the entire medical team. You guys are truly amazing and rock stars in the medical community. My Father since has returned to the game of golf which he loves and enjoys so much. In August we celebrated his 70th birthday with family and friends which over a year ago I would never thought we would make it this far with how uncertain his medical condition was.Dr . Matti, Dr. Moore, and Dr. Gottam did an outstanding job getting my dad well again. The communication with the entire medical team was excellent and everyone did a extraordinary job My many thanks and if I missed someone I apologize. Also a special thanks to Stephanie Alfonsi for setting up the transfer and helping me throughout the journey.I am proud to be here today to write this review and to highly recommend this great Hospital. With Sincere gratitude,Michael Greve
Doris Johnson: Rob came to the hospital with no movement on his right side. In addition he was on a ventilator, a trach, and a feeding tube. Within a week he was off the vent and trach. In a few days all tubes were removed. He is now breathing on his own, and eating solid food. The staff has always been very helpful. Yeah select.
A S: They take excellent care of my mom. We have been here for 2 months.
Quintin Monger: The nurses here are compassionate caring and did the best of their ability to give me comfort.
RC L: I read many of these reviews beforehand, and would like to add my experience after the fact: We chose this Long Term Acute Care facility (LTAC or LTACH) from a short list of facilities with an available bed, after several recommendations from others to give our family member the best chance of being able to be weaned from a ventilator following a long stay in ICU for pneumonia. While the prognosis was not good to start, we were told during the initial evaluation that the plan was to be aggressive with ventilator weaning and that the average stay is 30 days (after the fact, I would like to know what "average stay" actually means: 30 days before discharge home, discharge to a nursing home, death, or an average of all?). Our family member eventually died here from their condition around five weeks later, and I am writing this review to hopefully help someone facing a similar decision between whether or not to make their family member "comfortable" (hospice) in an ICU setting, or take the next step for admittance to a LTAC facility. What we now know is that for many patients with a similar condition that have not been able to be weaned from a ventilator in an ICU setting (normally within 2 weeks from onset of intubation), recovery is rare (search "LTAC survivability" for more). These are statistics that for some reason many in the medical community do not share with struggling family members. The step down of constant care and attention from what we were used to in ICU was a big shock. There was often a difference between what case managers said was supposed to happen in weekly updates, and what would actually happen. Even though nurses supposedly only have 4-5 patients per shift, sometimes we would not see anyone come into the room for 2-3 hours. These experiences were shared with administrators, who seemed genuinely frustrated and said they would follow up, but I got the feeling that there was not much they could do but pass along their report to the Chief Nursing Officer. The level of care often varied widely from shift to shift. There were nurses, nursing assistants, and respiratory therapists who were frequently present, and then there were others who did not clean up bodily fluids as frequently, and let less-serious monitor alarms and call buttons go unanswered for a lengthy amount of time. Depending on speciality, doctors are primarily "consultants" that generally stop in to evaluate a patient and set a plan of treatment once a week. Decisions on changes to care or medications can take several days as we experienced. Overall, this may be how many LTAC facilities operate, however, it is ironic that the amount billed to insurance was $3,000 a day more in LTAC than in ICU ($13,000 vs $10,000). That said, there were many here, including administration staff, that were very nice, professional, caring and dedicated. In the end, I'm not sure that a stay at another facility would've resulted in a different outcome, however, the ICU to LTAC transition was an eye opening experience, and hopefully ours may help others who come here looking for insight on this process.
Joseph Ferraro: The staff has done an amazing job with our son. After several weeks in ICU they have helped wean him off his respirator, and his trachea. They have him on a regular diet, and stabilized him enough to start his transition to physical therapy. So many people to give thanks for, but I'm afraid that I would miss someone. So thanks to the whole staff @ select specialties. πŸ™‚

There were a couple good nurses bit most of them act like you are bothering them-especially the ones on the 4th floor. They don't have time to take care of you right. You should have seen how they dressed my wife when they discharged her! Clothes all twisted! Anyway, we both are glad we don't have to go back there...pft

Tammy Martin: I had surgery and when I got discharged the nurse that wheeled me down to the door. while my fiance went and got the car. Left me sitting at the door while my fiance is driving in circles waiting for me to come out. Select Specialty Hospital - Northwest Detroit: what do users think?
Angela Montgomery: I love Dr Mendiratta. He saved my life. Bionica was nice and Rob and girwas very helpful, I liked Alex in pt and Patrice, I was sedated a lot but I get it I had a serious illness, I have a complaint and I am going to write a letter against James physical therapy mgr . He sent me to another facility when I was almost off the vent so I had to start over. My doctor didn’t even know about it, I think he gets a bonus for referring people to rehab the worst places in Michigan. Do your research don’t listen to him.
Joni C: Thanks and Appreciation to all for some awesome care services received
Bobby Kellum Jr.: They been so good since the start and I recommend this hospital.
Joseph Camp: I got great service and I'm getting better they helping me out a lot!
Cornell Howard: My wife arrived at the Northwest Detroit facility on 12/25/2022 and since her arrival she has received outstanding care from the nurses that were assigned. The respiratory staff Florence Bailey and others did a great job in her ventilator care and was a credit in her being removed from it. They kept me informed of her progress. The speech therapist Ann worked very hard with my wife with helping her to speak so she could communicate with medical staff and me.
Charlene Bailey: This is an amazing hospital and staff kind friendly. From the janitorial staff to the doctor's nurses nurses aids and patients advocate and physical therapy team. Thank you all for caring after my son

Jonathan PattersonVlog: The Staff at Select Specialty Hospital N.W. Detroit are Angle the entire staff. I been here 7 days and I have been removed from the Vent, Trach will be coming out in a couple of days.I Love the staff from the day shift to the night shift they are AWESOME
Demetrius Kirk: The Staff at Select Northwest are angles. My dad suffered from Covid 19. He was in ICU at DMC SG for over one month. He was on a vent, trached and pegged before arriving at Select Northwest. Before choosing Select Northwest I had interviewed the DON β€œMs brown” the director of respiratory β€œ Larry the godsend”, Nick in case management, and the director of rehab. I told them about my feelings and how I wanted to do right by my dad. I told the staff that I was a very involved family member who would be calling and speaking with them daily. The DON and her team stated they had no problems with me calling every day and even supplied me with direct numbers to contact them daily with questions. The Don stated that she would instruct her staff to contact me twice a day to give me updates should I choose Select Northwest. During the conversation, I informed the director of respiratory that my dad had a prior trach over 20 years ago and that I would want this trach removed asap. Larry did not make any promises but stated he would do his best to meet my goals. After finally speaking with the director of rehab and nick from case management I elected to admit my dad to their facility. After over 60 days I admitted my Vent depended on dad to Select Northwest for continued respiratory care. While there I spoke with Larry daily about my dad's status. At times there were no updates, but Larry called anyway to keep his promise. Over time larry would have me meet the other therapist on his team who would be taking care of my dad. One therapist that stood out was Angle. Angle was an angle, she provided me with reassurance that my dad would be ok and also keep me grounded in faith. One night Angle, facetime me and spoke with me regarding my dad's condition, she had no updates, but she wanted to pray with me. That night we cried and shared a moment that I hope to never experience again. We were two people brought together by a pandemic crying and praying for answers. As time went on I grew to trust the whole respiratory team taking care of my dad and I would share a special moment with every rt who took care of my dad.Ms. Brown, the DON leads a team of dedicated nurses & patient care techs. I found the staff to be very nice and caring. They provided top-notch care. My dad stayed at select for about 60 days. During the time there my dad did not develop any wounds/bedsores, did not suffer any foot drop, and remained healthy. While in a coma, my dad received bedside therapy to help prevent additional mobility loss. After about 45 days my dad was awoken from his Coma. After being awoken, he received the care he needed to have his Trach removed and his diet upgrade. At my dad's time of discharge, my dad was able to stand after 105 days in the bed. He was able to eat regular food and most importantly Larry removed the trach.During my dad’s time at Select Northwest, Nick the case manager made sure my needs were met daily. If I had any questions, he supplied his cell phone number to me for my use any day or night. If you are questioning if you should admit your loved one here at Select Northwest my answer is yes. As a nurse, I know the care my dad received here exceeded the norm. Not only did they help save my dads life they made sure he suffered no ill will while under their careFrom the bottom of my heart, I want to take Ms brown, larry, angle, nick, and the rest of team northwest for giving me my dad back. You guys are angles.
Matthew Lynn: This is about the Select Care facility in these hospitals it is not only this one all of them all over Michigan. If I could give this place a -5 stars I would, we just had to go and rescue my father-in-law from there sub-standard s****ty care. He was bruised and forced to stay in his bed, when he had to urinate they had him use the one at bedside and when they took it they would put it next to his food and occasionally it would spill on his food. They care little or not at all about any patient in their care, I advise if you have family there get them out quick. And if you are about to have a family member, or about to go there yourself please consider your health first and not your providers bottom line.
F D: I will first say I'm a person that sets High expectations when it comes down to my mother, I was a little hesitant at first about this hospital because of the location, I've never been a fan of grace hospital, but I must say the staff at select specialty put my worries to rest, Kudos to Larry and his respiratory team, he was always there to answer all my questions, now my only disappointment was that my mother lost weight after arriving there.. so now the new place she is has to get her weight back up, she’s on a feeding tube so the calculation were off.. im just praying they can get her weight back up
