DYNO Detroit Climbing: what do users think?
Roland Amarteifio: Love this Gym! Great staff, routes and atmosphere. I just wish they opened earlier in the morning so I could get my climb in before work.
Riley Ketvirtis: I love coming to dyno! There is a great selection of climbing routes for all different abilities. The routes are changed pretty often so there is Always a new challenge. The staff is always super friendly, helpful and informative. Dyno is a great place to learn and push yourself to new heights! 🧗‍♀️🧗
Kayla: Had an amazing experience here the other day. We came on a weekday which was perfect for us beginners less crowded. Carolina was really sweet and explained everything well during our tour. The owner Dino was also very personable and encouraging.Side note- I’m in no way shape or form super athletic or thin. As a plus size gal, I was worried about a few things but, shortly, I realized this place is very inclusive, and the instructors were encouraging overall. It seemed that all body types and athletic levels were welcomed here. It was exciting to try something new and feel very welcomed. We will be back!!
MD M: DYNO detroit climbing is amazing. Good ambient, good people, good staff. Ive been climbing in many diferents climbing gyms in US and Spain and DYNO has the perfect combination. The most remarkable point is the routteseters. They build with logic and the most important thing, both the rutes and the boulders are very fun. This is very important. Again my congrats. Keep going.Marcos
Owen Mills: Such a great place! Staff are beyond friendly and helpful. Great sense of community. Every single staff member is very kind and charismatic. They make sure to make everyone feel welcomed. I’ve been a member for a few months now and I’m excited every time to go.
Dilluhn: LOVE THIS PLACE!!!Just got back from Dyno for the first time and it was an absolutely amazing experience. My friend and I are complete beginners and we were able to do a lot and learn a lot!The environment and workers are so friendly and inviting! No intimidation at all!1000% coming back if I could give it 10 stars I would!
Bryan Devan: Great climbing gym in the Detroit metro area. The building is super nice and there are many climbing and bouldering walls.
Kristin Pelletier: Owners feel like hosts at this rock gym - especially welcoming and helpful.
rob montgomery: Awesome place to visit. My 13 year old son loved it.
Ping Zhou: Awesome establishment. Lots of space all around and ton of bouldering problems. The staff is helpful and the atmosphere is very chill. Lots of climbers of all levels, making the place feel welcoming and comfortable to all. Membership perks, which includes yoga, bring a first time friend for free, one returning friend per month pass, and discounts on merchandise makes it totally worth it. Oh, and the owner always brings his adorable Chihuahua in. This is my favorite place in all of Detroit.
Dustin Gibson: Used to live around detroit area and climbed at planet rock while I lived there. Moved away for work and Dyno opened up a year or so later. I come back occasionally to visit friends in the area and have climbed at dyno multiple times while returning.LOVE the setting, the gym layout and that they are working on a cafe setup. Staff is super friendly.Recently left some shoes and a chalk bag while visiting and the staff was super helpful coordinating it to be dropped off by my place in northern KY! (Someone from detroit making their way to the red river gorge)Highly recommend!
Calum Bryans: Best climbing gym in south east Michigan. Great route setting, staff is friendly, gym is clean and spacious. I'd live here if they would rent me a closet.
Neal Captain: If you're looking for a climbing gym that will exceed your expectations, Dyno Detroit is the place to go! The gym is truly exceptional - top-notch in every way. The first thing you'll notice is how clean and well-maintained the facility is.In addition to being immaculate, the gym features some of the best route setting I've ever seen. Each wall has a variety of routes to choose from, ranging from beginner-friendly to challenging and technical climbs. The staff at this gym are excellent too - they are friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help you with any questions you might have. They do a great job at providing a fun and safe environment for climbers of all levels.Overall, Dyno Detroit is a fantastic climbing gym that I highly recommend to anyone looking to up their climbing game or just have a great time climbing indoors.
Breanna Wagner: Good orientationLots of levelsVery clean
Kevin Kurasik: If you want to go climbing I would recommend not wasting your time or money at this establishment
Margaret Whitfield: CHAMP!!!
Syed S. Qadri: Had a great experience with my 7 year old son. Quick and clear instructions prior to starting the first time. Multiple levels available from beginner to advanced. We are looking forward to going again soon.
Alex: Incredible staff and fantastic facility.
Greg Eakins: This is a large climbing gym with a huge bouldering area with routes of all types and quite a few top rope options as well. The staff are friendly and helpful and got us on the walls pretty quickly after an orientation. We are experienced climbers and the ratings are definitely on the harder side here.Being one of the few climbing places around, it does get very crowded. However, the bouldering area was large enough that we were able to find appropriate routes away from the crowds just fine. All of their climbs are accurate in the Kaya app, so major plus there. They also have a cool little hand care station for any hand damage you end up with.
Debra Levine: Love this gym! The staff and owner are so welcoming and kind! They strongly focus on safety and the gym feels very inclusive of different skill levels, ages, and body types. The gym is clean, and the routes are fun and interesting! I wish I lived closer! My friends have set up a carpool group to make the 45 minute drive more sustainable. Thanks, Dyno!
Andy Miller: I found myself in Detroit for 24 hours to get a rushed passport (long story) but I had time to kill. Luckily I brought my gear ahead of time but the owner was extremely friendly and accommodating to my surprise trip to Detroit. The walls and routes are great fun and everything is very clean and pristine. The protein bites are awesome and the vibes of this place are what a climbing gym should be. Kudos for being awesome

Planet Rock Climbing Gym: what do users think?
Luke Demo: it's a decent gym, probably top 70%. the wall angles are dope. need to reset more; some feet are so slick and fingers actually were turning black from the rubber/grime. grading is kinda all over the place, but that's like a lot of gyms. pretty soft up to ~v7 then it's really hit or miss. some accurate, some up or down a grade, but around v7-9 it starts to mirror outdoor difficultly. kind of feels like they don't have a bunch of strong climbers forerunning? some 6s are more like 4s, same with a few 5s that are like 3s. anything that mirrors technical outdoor climbing is very ...forgiving, but your overhung jug/crimp haul is more or less par for the course on the grades. thought the setting was pretty good though! could just use better grading. and maybe a tension or fricticious hangboard rather than the old/gimmicky stuff.
Dax Billcheck: So much fun!
Olivia Eddy: Have been a member here for years, love the environment and great community of climbers. They should bring back the crank nights and bring a buddy day so we can get friends more involved in the activity.
MH Shin: Like the sign on the wall “Did you clip in”.Safety, and fun walls.
Devin Cleveland-Stein: Did the intro session with some friends. The staff were very knowledgeable and made it simple to learn the basics. For $45 it included the gear rental, the class, entry for the day as well as entry for one additional day.
T mei: It was the best!! We had such a blast. Me personally I liked the bouldering.
Manuel Pumarada: I went with my daughter and her friends. First time in 6 or 7 years. They gave me a refresher. A thorough refresher. I climbed a couple of times the tall but easier ones (5.7 and 5.8 in case that means something to you). Anyway, the employees were friendly. The place is well kept. It has a decent gym. The $20 fee covered both. They also have a coffee shop, a fireplace. It's a pretty chill place. Get a workout while having fun with friends.
Sean Hunter: Great time. Instructor was thorough. Clean place with gear for purchase. Not too crowded. It's a pretty large place to begin with. All around I have no complaints at all. Get out there and climb! (Safely of course).Still awesome all these years later.
Karli Raimondo: Great gym and a huge facility. PR has been a staple for Michigan climbing for years. They bring a strong kids team to the national stage and they have very classic climbing style routes. All the climbers there are super nice and the community is great. The reason for 4 is that all of the great things about PR are overshadowed by the immense access/paywall to climbing that they provide.Specifically, in order to have access to their facility you must take a belay certification which costs an additional 50$ and 120 minutes of climbing time.PR has an extensive bouldering area and and personally I just boulder. It’s a shame.I often introduce people to the sport I love but I always have to skip PR and go to Dyno instead to have people come join me to climb.I hope that they change it so just bouldering is an option.
william kemp: Love this place. I try to make it once a week. it’s a great workout
Tomer Assaf: Pros:- It's a climbing gym in Michigan, you don't have much choice- Actual facility is spacious with toping out on the boulders- Has some basic barbell gym equipmentCons:- Place is filthy, even by climbing standards. They don't really enforce "don't go to the bathroom with climbing shoes on"- Routes often stay up for several months, get taken down with no schedule- Broken equipment (lifting eqp, water fountain, cubbies) stays broken for years- Chunk of the staff is just straight up aggressively rude...luck of the draw who you get :(- Only gym ever to require pricey 2 hour intro lesson on top roping before you can boulder. No exceptions- Have lied in attempt to charge me extra fees. Just sort of sleazy business practices.- Does not take safety seriously, allows the birthday party kids to run amok under climbersTake away:Now that Dyno in Detroit is open, skip this mediocre-at-best experience. Planet Rock has a lot of potential in its facility, but squandered by its poor staff and worse operations.
Rahul Singh: A+ great place to learn or advance your skills. Truly feel you are not judged here and everyone is helpful or learning themselves. Staff have always been friendly to work with. Check their website for training classes, prices etc. only downside is it can tend to get to crowded but goes to show climbing’s popularity is increases. Compared to their location in AA, I think this one has more room, more walls etc. it does feel more crowded since the bouldering area and climbing walls are all basically in the same area.
Alan Kaliszewski: Great place to climb!
Chelsea: We had a great first experience today during our starter lesson. I do not have any experience with climbing equipment, but our instructor did a great job guiding us through the basics of climbing and belaying, stressing safety measures along the way. Though we did not have time to stay and climb after our lesson today, we will definitely be back in the next few days to put the basics we learned to the test!
Len Lasook: Staff don’t smile… it’s like they didn’t want to be there! Not a warm welcoming place. Nice gym though, likely won’t go back to this location.
Shelby Wager: I had a fantastic time rock climbing with our instructor Nate. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient, and really helped me feel comfortable and confident as I learned the ropes (literally!). His attention to safety was top-notch, and he made sure to carefully explain and demonstrate proper techniques before we got started. The climbing itself was a lot of fun, and I feel like I learned a lot in just one session. I'm definitely looking forward to more rock climbing in the future, and I have Nate to thank for making my first experience such a positive one. Overall, I highly recommend Nate as an instructor for anyone interested in trying rock climbing. He is an exceptional teacher and a great asset to the climbing community.
Joseph Hampel: Lots of fun! We did the beginner's class and then climbed for a little while after. The instructors were really great, the facility was large with lots of options, more than enough room for everyone there, and we look forward to climbing again!
Michael Arwashan: No frills solid gym
dave lim: I'm a first timer at this climbing gym. It seemed to be top rope/lead climbing focused. The main autobelay section is on the short walls unfortunately, with one autobelay on the high walls. One of the autobelay sections has a spray wall which i haven't seen in other gyms. So I definitely recommend bringing a partner, or be comfortable to ask for a belay to get the most out of the gym. There were two small bouldering areas. I didn't like the mats because they are the plastic type and my home gym had more of a cloth top which is much more comfortable. Routes here are graded and written on the start tape with the route setters name. Not as easily identifiable as other gyms i've been to that grade the routes by color. Other unique parts of the gym, they had ice climber training poles, a crack and offset width route. First timers can skip the class if they can pass the belay test. I made the mistake thinking i had to take the first timer class since it was my first time at gym, but they were happy to refund. I found the staff friendly and helpful and made me feel welcomed as a first timer.
Kit Lane: Hours are wack. Never seen a gym that closed at 6pm on weekends. Unfriendly to new climbers. Setters are okay, but they don’t change the routes enough. Boulders are closed often. Youth competition kids are prioritized over members. 90% of the employees are rude and unhelpful.
ben flint: climbing is fun
