Mel Woj: Poor communication- I called the day before our arrival to make sure we could get same day rental. We showed up and were told they can’t give them to us same day and their technician wasn’t around (not sure why that matters) waste of our time and no we don’t know if we can get skis for our trip. Ruining our weekend. So disappointed

I took my skis in for a tune up and rented a complete set of skis for my boyfriend. We easily saved 60%+ over the cost of renting up at the ski resorts. Unfortunately, the day we were supposed to leave on our ski trip, we unexpectedly had to cancel due to COVID. I called Nichols to let them know we would be taking the skis back early, in case they had other rental orders come in. Without me even asking, the woman at Nichols offered to let my boyfriend come back any time during the ski season to re-book his rental at no additional cost. This was completely unexpected - we were prepared to eat the cost of the rentals because our cancellation was so last-minute. I’m so grateful to the staff at Nichols for being so understanding. I highly recommend giving this store your business!!!

JJ Krueger: I took my skis here to get waxed & repaired. Hans took half a look at my skis and said "you need to take some lessons." I mentioned I'm a decent skier, but i wasn't looking for criticism of my ski style, just needed a quick repair. Hans said there was nothing he could do repair my skis (they're usable, just needed some cosmetic work). He repeatedly and condescendingly told me i should take lessons. I drove across town to REI in Troy, they said they'd have them repaired by this weekend. AVOID DONS SPORTSHAUS AT ALL COSTS. I seriously question Hans' ski knowledge...

Chris T: WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!! I had them mount bindings to my new skis and on the 3rd day of use the back binding stripped from the ski, costing me a day skiing out west. I brought them back to the shop, and was told that they did nothing wrong and it was a known problem with the skis and wanted to charge me to repair them. I took them to 2 other shops, and both told me that the bindings were installed incorrectly and there was nothing wrong with the skis. Very disappointed.

Everyone there seems to be a bicyclist and are willing to share knowledge about local trails and bike gear preferences. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a bike or just gear.Previous: I can't say enough good about these guys. I bought a Surly Disc trucker there and they helped me get it all set up and running. I bought that in store and it was a breeze, they even threw all my accessories on for me.I recently bought a Kona big Honzo online and I wish I had bought it in store. Can't change that now. On my first day getting the bike I took it out and managed to break it. I got back into the shop same day and they ordered parts for me and are taking care of it. I am happy there is a bike shop near by that is friendly and fast. I will definitely keep coming here.I highly recommend if you're thinking about a bike to go see them, they can help you find the right one.

MikeWithaBike: Went here to get a new bike and had a fantastic experience. The staff was knowledgeable and answered any questions I had. They allowed me to take a ride on the bike and even let me know where to head to test it out. After I decided I did want to buy it they helped me do the affirm loan every step of the way. They explained the moose jaw bucks, gave me a couple extras for the bike, and answered more of my questions on the phone after I left. Finally they walked the dang bike out and loaded it in my car as well as explained how the front quick release works. I wanted to give 6 stars but I seem to be limited to just 5. Great experience and can’t wait to be back for tune ups.

Kyle Whittaker: Went in to buy some used skis and to get fitted for boots. They have this cool 3-D scanner for your feet to ensure a great fit. The staff and store manager, Erik, were very friendly and knowledgeable. They gave me 4 different boots to try on with different insoles to find the most comfortable fit. I will always come back to this location due to my great experience. Really quick turn around on equipment setup too!

Ian Guswiler: Took my Kona bike in for warranty frame replacement and these guys got me hooked up even though my bike was out of warranty.Super good communication throughout the process, and they tuned my bike up very nicely after the parts swap to the replacement frame.Will definitely be coming here again when the need arises.

One time they even swapped out an xx1 chain from a whole groupset just so I could buy a gold one same day. Nothing but praise for these guys. Yes Barbara, you sell outdoor gear but you need to use both soap+water after using the restroom because it’s available to you in this bathroom (this is Troy, not a campground in the upper peninsula), it is a typical Michigan winter and flu/cold season, and DUH you are still a customer representative for REI. Disgusting.

Bobbi: In addition to having superior equipment, this particular location has quality customer service as well. 10/15/22 I made a purchase and didn’t notice until I was already home that I was charged incorrectly. I called the store to explain what happened, hoping I didn’t have to drive the hour back. Jessica Bertollini very promptly handled my issue, requiring her to go above and beyond any standard protocol. The customer service I received from her that day (and the day after) was outstanding, and I’m going to do my best to give my business to the Troy location solely from this experience.
