Arielle: This site was entered into the historical registry in 1958 and the memorial was erected in 1961. It states:"Flint, platted in 1836, became known as the“Vehicle City.” The production of road cartsreached 150,000 annually. Due to the foresight ofits vehicle manufacturers, Flint has become secondonly to the Detroit area in production of motorvehicles. A. B. C. Hardy made fifty Flint Roadstersin 1903. In 1904 the Buick Motor Car Companyproduced thirty-seven cars at its new Flint plant. In1905 W. C. Durant, of the Durant-Dort CarriageCompany, became head of Buick. He incorporatedthe General Motors Company in 1908 with Buickas its first automobile. In a few years Chevrolet,Fisher Body, AC Spark Plug, and other auto partsmakers also were established in Flint."
