City of Grand Rapids Development Center: what do users think?
Hassan Saleh: Unfortunately spoke to two people regarding an administrative departure for a side yard fence across for our residence which is across from a commercial property. While the form does say they will work with you to get it approved, the two flat out denied it without justifying it, by stating it’s against the rules (which the departure is suppose to address).Hopefully our city can get staff in here who take a holistic approach and attempt to work with Grand Rapids citizens to keep the interest of the city protected as well as help tax payers, unfortunately this is not the current state of this department.Would generally say they will not depart from rules even when departures are justified, are callous and not swayed or influenced by logic. I don’t know what criteria/qualifications staff have here but clearly something needs to change in terms of their training for handling administrative departures and treating people like people.

Matthew Curry: Went in to ask about the zoning of a piece of property, to see if a realtor was correct in the zoning classification of a building we were interested in. Turned out the realtor was incorrect, and changing it would be lengthy and difficult. They were very helpful and saved me lots of grief.

City of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation: what do users think?
Taylor Smith: We love all the classes parks and rec offers at an affordable price. Great programs and teachers.
Stefan Pawelka: Thank you for the work you do! I am sitting here at Riverside Park and enjoying these fantastic new benches. They look and feel like wood but are plastic will last so much longer. Are they made of recycled materials?
Brenna Alton: I've been taking HIIT and yoga classes with Amy for the past several years either in studio or at Lookout Park for the free outdoor summer sessions and I can't recommend them enough! Amy is amazing and gets the entire class pumped up and coming back each week for more. I highly recommend any of the classes put on by the City of GR Parks and Rec!
Vince Catalanotti: The public authority that operates Van Andel Arena wants to build a 12,000-seat amphitheater at 201 Market Ave. SW. (Rendering provided by the city of Grand Rapids)
nick martin: I’ve lived in my house for a month and have already recieved two notices from publics works about yard waste(I have one of the most best kept yards on the block(subtle brag)). I have followed every rule about yard waste disposal and my bags still aren’t being picked up. They have done everything they can and then some not to pick up these bags. It’s sounding like they literally want me to weigh my yard bags. They are filled with leaves and filled to the line; stop trying to find every reason not to do your job. I get I have 25 yard bags but get real. I only have so much money and yard bags are expensive bags. It’s not my fault you guys are lazy, just pick up my bags. You can do it—I believe in you.
Liz England: Love the ballroom dance classes - best value for the cost, great instructors, small class feel! We have been taking this class for years and we love it - has opened up a whole community to us
Vicki Shellen: Great option for exercise classes in-person or virtual and you do not have to live in the city to sign up!
Jenny Armour: I want to thank Tonya you was working at Garfield Park early Sunday morning for opening the bathroom for us she was busy cleaning the trash getting ready for a event but took the time to help us out. THANK YOU TONYA😊
Kara Johnson: Love the free outdoor classes in the summer!
Lisa Shaw: The free yoga classes are amazing! I also register for Zumba classes and Strong classes through Grand Rapids Parks and Rec. So fun! Instructors are awesome. I will keep at it!!
Colleen Wilson: Love, love , love Rosa Park Circle Zumba! The music and vibe is amazing. Amy and Bri are super energetic and excellent instructors! It is spaced out nicely- you feel safe in your space. Highly recommend!
Emily VanderPlas: Great opportunity for exercise outdoors and I love soulful motion! It's so fun and uplifting and also a great workout. The instructors are great!
Alix Elizabeth: The outdoor classes offered by Parks and Rec are such a beautiful thing, in fact I wish they could continue through the Fall! Monday night Zumba is such an awesome way to start my week, Amy and Bri are the icing on the cake because they are such fantastic and fun instructors...and you’ll never experience judgement if you are less coordinated haha!! I also love Amy Kwaiser’s Tuesday night Sunset yoga, it’s so relaxing and the park is such a nice setting. I go whenever I get the chance. Fall outdoor yoga would be an amazing addition to the line-up while indoor classes remain virtual!!
Kimberly Dittenber: What a great gift! Thank you for offering this.
Andrea Johnson: Attended free community events put on by this department and they have always been well-communicated, organized, and most importantly, fun! Can't emphasize enough how much they do for the GR community.
Sandy Vanderzicht: I have been taking yoga classes at the Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation for more than a decade. I have also recently started taking a Zumba class. All the instructors are energetic, knowledgeable, and encouraging. The price is reasonable, and you can buy a punch card if you are planning to be out of town during the session or if you want to sample a few classes. The downtown studio space is excellent. I highly recommend the classes and the instructors.
Alana Haley: Terrific and affordable fitness classes. The free program in the summer is fantastic! Yoga in the park and on the Blue Bridge, Zumba at the Circle are my faves.
Kelsey May Fraser: Fun events and programs and so many gorgeous parks! And the splash pads are an absolute lifesaver in the warm months!
Cristopher Rogers: Most of the time they pick it up. But, there are other times when we need it dumped and they just have a full truck. So they can't be bothered to come back.
Shelly Schulte: Very poor experience. I ahve called 4 times in 3 months to have the dead tree removed from my yard. It is the city tree between the sidewalk and the street. First time i was told they would be at my house July 2nd to remove the tree. Second call, was told it could take 6 weeks. Waited 7 weeks. Third call - was told the forestry dept would contact me. It's been 2 weeks. They haven't. And the tree is about to fall on my house/powerlines/ etc. Poor communication and very disappointed. I am about to remove it myself and charge the city.
