Trisha Bruns: If you like your neighbors do not use this company. They have been building a property next to our house in East Grand Rapids and we have a shared driveway with the property. It’s been an unprofessional mess with lack of communication.They approached us on a Friday afternoon that they would be cutting into the driveway and promised by two employees the driveway would be put back. Unfortunately, we agreed and the excavation team was tearing into our driveway on Monday at 8:30 am. We found out through the concrete company yesterday that this is not the case and the driveway they tore out will be landscaping. They clearly know what they are doing but have yet to communicate with us. I understand it’s their portion of the driveway but it’s still an easement and portions of the driveway have been cracked from their equipment. As of yesterday, they will not be replacing these portions.Their subcontractors have also used water from our spigot and have ran into our garage with their equipment multiple times. This has caused paint to chip off our garage (picture enclosed). They claim this will be fixed but I’m doubtful since they don’t seem to keep their promises.In addition, they flooded our front yard three times with sediment water pumped from the basement (picture enclosed). It caused our grass to die. When I reached out to the city this water is supposed to be pumped into a sewer drain which they clearly did not do. Even after I said something to Whitmore Custom Homes, they pumped water onto the street. They did nothing about our dead grass and we had to reseed it on our own.Yes, this company may build nice homes but they do not treat the neighbors property with respect. I thought I was overreacting until I talked to someone else in the neighborhood who had a very similar story. Their culture is to not apologize for anything so if they mess anything up do not expect one. I also recommend police reports if anyone else has similar issues and to have all agreements from Whitmore Custom Homes in writing.

Although we have never experienced any major problems in the past, we have never built long distance, which adds a whole new dimension to the project. The "Whitmore Boys" as my wife, Marilyn, refers to them, never disappointed as it was as smooth as it can be and the experience from start to finish exceeded our expectations. Nate had "the patience of Jobe "as we designed our home and often made changes to the plan or to our selections. I felt like he just wanted to please us while at the same time being honest, sincere and professional. We selected them because we liked their finishes and default designs; most of the pictures on their website were of homes in which we would have chosen to live.Engelsma handled everything for us. They assigned a project manager and designer dedicated to our project. We also made use of their architectural services (inside and outside) and used their subcontractors extensively. The home was completed on time despite several scope changes. All price changes were communicated quickly and required our approval, so at the end there were ZERO surprises re: cost.We lived more than two hours away from the build site, and we really appreciated the daily progress pictures. There were no slow-downs at all during the process -- the builders moved steadily and quickly until the home was complete.I recommend Engelsma without reservation for any home building or remodeling project. Steven Prince: Our experience with Engelsma Homes was enjoyable and a ton of fun! On the front end (sales), Jason was a visionary. We worked with Jason and an architect to bring our vision and ideas to paper. Jason and the architect know how to have fun and would bring jokes to the table. Both have great personalities. Eventually they have to hand you off to other team members and it’s a sad day. You just want to be their friend. Design was second to none. Full 3D renderings of spaces was very helpful. The designers, Andrea and Jaclyn, came with us to every selections meeting. My wife loved them. You should see our house. It’s sweet!We built a house in 2021/2022. Our project manager, Jordan Cooper, navigated supply chain issues, labor shortages, and the schedule like a beast. Our house was finished EARLY! Jordan was in my phone contacts under favorites, above my wife even.What impressed me most about Engelsma Homes is how fair they were and how much integrity they have. Couple examples:1) We built in Grand Haven Township. Don’t do it. The building officials will make your life h-e- double hockey sticks. Permitting was a nightmare. Long story short, GHT made us hire additional engineering and add construction materials that were overkill. It added $22,000 in cost to our house. Our house could take a direct hit from a Russian missile. Jason Engelsma split the cost with me. It wasn’t his fault, he didn’t have to do it, but he did it anyways.2) At the end of the project, our custom staircase didn’t pass inspection. One of the treads was 3/4” too high. As the homeowner, I told Engelsma to just add a temporary landing that they remove after we pass inspection. The Building Official obviously knew what I was up to and asked Engelsma to sign a document that said they would not remove the landing after inspection. Engelsma wouldn’t do it. They have integrity. They spent a fortune and redid the stairs at their expense instead. Whoa! Good luck finding that kind of integrity from contractors!Stop looking. Work with Engelsma. Rudy Supanich: Engelsma Homes is a supreme builder. We trusted them to help us design and build our dream house and did they ever deliver! They run a turnkey operation from start to finish, which is one of many things that make them a unique builder. Everything necessary design/build a custom home is included…the architect, landscape architect, cabinet designer, interior designer/general designer, project manager, etc…if you need it, you’ll have it.We went over budget, but it was mostly our fault and the costs were justified with quotes and clearly organized change orders. Everything was explained in detail with costs and any other information we wanted - we always felt like everyone was on the same team, which is a huge deal when you are in the middle of a large custom home project and unforeseen costs come up.If you are considering a custom home “builder” (I put quotes around it because Engelsma is more than just a builder) in the Michigan area, you would be stupid to not choose Engelsma.Allison - You are a master of your craft. Jacque Jennings-Carter: This review is for Natural Elements, the cabinetry division within Engelsma Homes. Natural Elements built a significant amount of beautiful custom cabinetry for me and I absolutely love them. The quality and craftsmanship was great but even better was the customer service, not only during, but after the sale and warranty period. Most everything went very smoothly but we had one glitch that could have been a major issue but it wasn't solely due to their integrity, ethics and wonderful customer service. Rob took care of it all. He even found a small item that I missed. They probably could have said that the issue was past warranty and not done anything as many companies do (although I would have challenged it), but they didn't and for that fact alone, I was very impressed. Problems can happen even when using the best companies and while no one wants any hassles/problems, for me, it isn't the problem that matters, it is how it is handled and resolved. Engelsma Homes/Natural Elements handled everything in a first-class manner from beginning to end. They knew it had occurred during the warranty period, the problem reoccured and they voluntarily "owned it". Impressive. I highly recommend them.

WM123: Look. No. Further. The Hanson Home Team will not disappoint! We were lucky enough to find Brian and Lindsey Hanson (Owners) through a personal contact who worked with them previously. After reading all of the glowing reviews online, we decided to meet with them. Initially, we found them to be professional, detail-oriented and organized. Over time, we found them to be so much more. We were about to embark on an extensive remodel on a house we recently purchased and were hoping to find someone up for the task. Luckily, Brian and Lindsey are not faint of heart! The process started by completely reworking the home’s layout and defining the work process and budget. Brian and Lindsey provided creative input and options given our home’s footprint, while being mindful of our budget. It was easy to follow the process through their online system that allowed us to keep track of the schedule, purchases, and any changes that needed to be made along the way.These are all things you would expect from a quality construction company. However, the first real test came when our current home sold immediately and we ended up living on-site during the entire remodel. We really got to see how the team works together, first hand.Brian was on-site every day whether he was working or checking in on progress. He was always ready with updates on what would be happening that day and through the next week on the project. Throughout demolition and re-creation, the job site remained orderly. Brian, and his right-hand man, John, are masters of wood and trim work. All of the trade people on the team were professional and personable and did high-quality work. As with any remodel, there are stumbling blocks. Brian navigated these with ease, creativity and excellent communication.Lindsey was the glue that kept the project all together. Her design recommendations came with a creative eye and the voice of experience. She was able to incorporate our design tastes into the selections we made for the home, while staying within our budget. She was always ready with options to get the process started; sometimes it even seemed like she could read our minds. Additionally, because she understands the build process so well, she was able to organize the selection ordering so that everything arrived before it was needed, avoiding delays.Along with their professionalism, the fact that this is also a caring and compassionate team should not go unnoticed. Brian went out of his way to create a dust-free zone for us to live in during the remodel and he even built a temporary countertop in a kitchenette area so we could do holiday cooking instead of using our camp stove, without even asking. The selection process can be stressful because there are so many options out there; Lindsey was patient and positive throughout, even when we were waffling. When the pandemic started to disrupt all of our lives, Brian and Lindsey made sure that everyone who came into the home had access to the proper safety PPE and supplies; another glitch that didn’t get them down. Hilary Lapham: My husband and I moved into our dream home about 2 years ago on a total whim. The house went up for sale, had never been lived in, huge price drop shortly after it was listed, we took a chance and we put in an offer. Boom. Accepted. As we met everyone in our neighborhood, they said two things: "Oh yes, you can totally tell it's a Hanson Home with the quality of the build," and, "Did you know it was a Parade home?" At this point, all we knew about Brian and Lindsey was what we could learn about them from this beautiful home that we just scored. But to everyone who came over, I said, "I don't know the builder personally, but I feel like I would like him based on the love and care that he put into this house." I repeat: I had never met these people, but I could tell based on the detail, the quality, and the love put into this house that they took pride in the homes that they built, cared about the relationship with the client, and weren't afraid to do amazing things with design.About a year after we moved in, we decided to start looking into finishing the basement. We met with Brian and Lindsey for a bid, and we loved them from the moment we met them. Everything that the Lake Birch house told me about them was spot on. Professional, fun, know what they're talking about, responsive; K, you're hired!Does anyone like their builder by the time the project is done? Not usually, but without question we did. Brian and Lindsey saw the project through to the very end. Brian was onsite nearly every day; he even did the framing and trim himself. He even took care of a couple goofy little hiccups throughout the rest of the house. Lindsey's guidance on what grey out of infinity number of shades and all the other details that don't make sense in my left-dominated brain was outstanding.My only regret is that we didn't get to build the whole home working with them. I guess we'll have to look for a lot in 5 years to start from square one! Hiring Hanson Homes is the best decision you could make for making your dream home come to fruition!

Jacob Belter: We had Hanson Homes redo our kitchen floor, countertops, backsplash, and tile our mudroom. The are very easy to work with, and Brian was very flexible and squeezed in as much work as he could to accommodate our schedules. Lindsey helped make our decisions easy with her samples & ideas. I would recommend Hanson Homes to anyone, and I plan to have them redo our basement when the time comes.

I would give them 10s in all categories.....On time,cost, detail, professionalism,work quality,politeness,friendliness,cleanliness,etc. The construct at my home had to do with creating a sunroom and this included changing existing walls, windows and floors. They also did kitchen reconstruction simultaneously. I have owned 4 homes over past 30 years and have had many construction companies and projects. They come in first!

Dave Walz: We saw a previous home they did and had to have them do our new home - The Grand Reserve - and the result was amazing! They were super easy to work with from project inception to project end and made sure we were comfortable every step of the way. They used the highest quality materials and had great attention to detail...they even put in a few things to make our home unique. Everything is just perfect. We're going to have them do a follow up project on the home in the spring and something in the basement after that. We're so glad we met them and had them do our home...we now count them as friends.

Nicole Purdy: We've completed two small projects with Hanson Homes - a deck re-do in 2012, and most recently adding some additional cabinetry and storage space to our kitchen/dining area in 2014. Brian's craftmanship is second to none. He's wrapped up our projects quickly, working around our schedules and communicating the status along the way, making the whole process painless. Lindsey has a great eye for design, and was a huge help with making decisions on colors/materials for the kitchen redo, as well as tracking down impossible to find matching hardware. They are wonderful to work with - doing high quality work at competitive prices. I can't wait to dream up a THIRD project for them!

lovee cole: We hired Brian Hanson to add a roof, put in outlets for lighting and install an outdoor fan to our exsisting deck. We then added a step-down to a much larger deck area with a built in bench between two boxed-in tables wired with outdoor speakers. This deck extended all the way to our freestanding garage and then a very wide walkway down the side of that garage to steps leading to the back yard. It was a beautiful addition to our home and we were very happy with the design that Hanson Homes created for us. We just told them what we wanted to do in our outdoor space and they were able to make our wishes come true. Along with great design the quality and care was very impressive. The deck will probably last 100 years :) Thanks to Brian and Lindsey Hanson.

Mimi Jansma: Hanson Homes is awesome. We had our bathroom completely wiped out and remodeled. With Lindsey’s artistic eye and ideas combined with Brian’s amazing skill our bathroom was gutted, remodeled, up and running in NO time and I haven’t had any problems and no complaints on the outcome. We are very much in love with our bathroom. One thing I can say about Hanson Homes is they do fabulous work in very little time and they won’t be complete with a project until it’s absolutely perfect !!
