Spectrum Health Medical Group Diabetes & Endocrinology: what do users think?
Staci Jaworski: We have been patients of this office for many years, but lately I have received terrible service. First I couldn't get prescriptions refilled without reaching out to the manager, than I couldn't get someone to tell us how to handle elevated blood sugar after a steroid injection and had to again involve the manager. The doctor actually left for the day without addressing the message properly. Then yesterday I called to make an appointment with a nurse educator I was told by the girl who answered the phone we needed a referral. She was going to reach out to the PA and call me back. Of course she did not, so I called back today and this girl was going to schedule an appointment, without even mentioning a referral. The appointment wasn't for two weeks which did not work because we started a new method of testing blood sugar and needed assistance. I emailed the provider and an educator did call back and answer all my questions, which I appreciated. If all the Spectrum Endocrinologists didn't work in this office I would have left a long time ago.
Aaron Gilman: I want to thank this team for the very professional treatment I was given. I have been very sick and they have pulled my life forward. Thank you so very much!
becky cook: Bed manner sucks didn't answer all my questions. All he said was my pcp could take it from here and I knew everything I had to do.
Kyle Piechocki: Horrible automated phone system. Can't get through to a real person to refill an insulin prescription.
X X: This is a good place. The staff is kind and caring. As a T1 I have not found a better endo office yet.
Kyra Monnix: Staff are fair and professional, but be warned this is 'murican healthcare. Here's what I paid as a trans-woman seeking HRT for my dysphoria.Initial labs and appointment: $1000Follow up appointment: $250Follow up labs: $300Note: all these values are rounded to the nearest $50, and this is with an uncooperative insurance company BCBS.Good luck my fine people
Drew Detrick (Pinku-Purra): I go there for my Diabetes care.
Jonah: Just OK. My therapist recommended me to Nathan for HRT but only Mushref was available. I did a video appointment with him (spectrum health apps are also horrible but I digress) and he used my born name (as did his staff, until my mother talked to them.) He disregarded my concerns about going off of birth control when it wasn’t necessary and was really dismissive in general. As far as managing my hormones he’s done fine, and as I mentioned earlier the staff are definitely hit or miss. Edit: Switched to Nathan who is better with medication management, but the entire office is a mess. Whenever my pharmacy contacts them they always lose said contact. Didn't renew my insurance approval for 2 weeks and haven't refilled my HRT for a week now. Horrible with communication in general.
Jamie Jeffrey: We were greeted by the most god awful woman ever. She was rude from the moment we walked in the door, she was Very disrespectful and the way she talked to us was awful to the point I asked her to stop being so rude. The doctor was great but this woman needs some serious help.
Carriann Lane: Careful, caring staff. Modern treatment equipment and methods. Advocated for care and specialized drugs needed with insurance company to obtain them. Dr. Kawji and his team have been great to work with.
patricia walker: Staff very kind and knowledgeable
Daniel deVries: They have knowledgeable, skilled diabetes specialists that I fully trust. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. Been a patient there since 2012.
Deborah Kissinger: My visit met my needs. I needed education about type II diabetes. I had the staff attention. My questions were answered, the literature I received was spot on. Thank you
Ethan: Trying to get insulin refills is like pulling teeth with this office!
Renae Palma: A doctor's office that actually cares!!
Tyler Keuning: I was shocked to see so many negative reviews. It goes to show most people like to complain, not many people like to give praise. I've been going here for 6 years and have never had an issue. If you actually take the time to download your pump ahead of time like they ask its amazing how quick the appointment goes. I've had good interactions from the front desk to MA to PA and the Doctors.
Jesse Johnson: Always a problem trying to get a prescription refilled
Steve Morren: I have read numerous negative reviews but have not witnessed any issues as I have been a diabetic patient for 28 years with Spectrum. Dr. Pomeroy is fantastic and his nurse practitioner Katie Dalton is even better. I appreciate the technological advances they have made in the office and seem to be up on all the latest education and training when it comes to pump therapy and CGM equipment. I have had nothing but positive experience each and every time I visit!!!
Brenda Lautenschlaeger: When I was a patient here they failed me horribly my insulin that is not covered on my insurance so I have to have prior approval. Dr. took his sweet time so I went without 8 shots ended up in the ER with blood sugars over 500. Then did a follow up to get my syringes they changed them again had to go without. So I changed doctors. So 4 months ago I quit my services there and today I get a reminder that I have an appointment with them this week. Seriously?
Lindsey Whelpley: will be staying away from spectrum. Can’t call my prescriptions in in a timely matter..except to a pharmacy I last used YEARS ago which is my problem apparently, wouldn’t schedule future appointments at my appointment, by the time I got a new appointment I needed to wait five months instead of three just to abruptly have it canceled for a “other” reason, doctors and nurses are unmotivated and honestly really rude. I’m sure when I call Monday they will let me know that it’s my fault my appointment was canceled for no reason after waiting five months they are pretty good at pointing the finger instead of telling you a polite excuse.
Corey Kaminski: Went here to see Dr. Kryshak, he ran blood test and said all is normal. I wouldn't of went to a specialist if I felt normal. Useless office. I have to pay out of pocked $350 for a $750 blood test. Now that Dr. doesn't even work for Spectrum anymore. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS OFFICE

Mercy Health Physician Partners Diabetes and Endocrine Center: what do users think?
Heidi Heath: I have been going here for 15 yrs (since they opened). The staff is amazing and they go out of their way too help. Karen has always helped me at the front desk and is a sweetheart. Ben Borton has always answered my portal messages within that day and has gone above and beyond in helping me with my needs and has the biggest heart. Dr. Gardine is so sweet and kind and listens intensely to what is being said and is so calm in manner. Thank you for making my life easier as a 43 yr Type 1 diabetic.
Austin Hall: Kevin is the best!!!
Michael McAlpine: Dr. Cyprian Gardine is amazing. The best Endocrinologist I have ever seen.
CC Writer: My doctor did not listen to me, did not explain my condition or advise me on lifestyle changes that could help and ignored my concerns. I would not recommend anyone I cared about go here.
Bob Miller: Happy with the care I receive here...but you need to update your website. It says you are open but when I called I got a we are closed till 8 am.
Nicole Falconer: I see Dr. Therasse and Megan Fitzspatrick, NP- both are awesome. Very personable and easy to talk to.
L arthur: Dr. more interested in herself. Have to remind her I need blood tests, foot exams, and refills. Try and get an appointment when you need it...this is malpractice with an attitude.
J L L: I have had to ask the same question multiple times to the point of sounding like a broken record. Has now been 4 days and still have not received an answer. Then to top it off asked me if the answer that was given answered my question...Nope the answer given had absolutely nothing to do with the question!!!! Now I know why Mercy gets low ratings.
Curtis Bolt: My wife is happy with the service she gets there from her doctor. Sometimes the parking lot can be pretty full. So plan ahead on getting there with enough to find a parking spot.
Dave Whiting: good Drs & NP but very expensive!!!

Edward J. Kryshak, MD: what do users think?
Danielle: He USED to care. The appointment lasted MAYBE 5 mins. He didn't ask about any concerns of mine. Didn't ask me anything. He sat there typing the whole time, then closed my down my info on the computer...and...BOOM!!...we were done. Ridiculous. He doesn't care.
Karen Opperman: My husband saw Dr Kryshak who understood his situation at once. We found him clear and concise—both good at listening and explaining.
A. B.: I requested hormone bloodwork after two years of extreme heat intolerance. Dr K refused, saying that because I was on birth control the results would be invalid. I found a new doctor, she ran the blood work I requested; an abnormal prolactin level, and an MRI revealed a TUMOR on my pituitary gland. I was 34. How big would that have gotten if I had listened to this doctor? How bad would my symptoms have to get, before he listened to me? Thankful I found a doctor who would listen to me. But not this one.
Amy McKay: This doctor has a terrible bedside manor … rude and insensitive … he told me that I was gonna die young!! What doctor would say that to a patient suffering from diabetes complications?? Terrible …I would not recommend!!!
Shel Lynn: Last count I believe I’ve seen 24 doctors in the Spectrum and Metro system over the past 4.5 years. Most had decent bedside manner & varying degrees of desire to help. Dr. EK is one exception. I only followed him from Spectrum to Metro because I liked his PA, Tamra. Dr. Ed was dismissive, demeaning, and he joked about my diagnosis of Hashimoto’s in an apathetic & dismissive manner. He was also unwilling to order a full thyroid panel lab work to determine the level of TPO antibodies against my thyroid. He was completely unhelpful in regard to offering any suggestions for mitigating this autoimmune disease. I have spoken now with three other women who have run the other way from him. Unless he finds some semblance of empathy in his old age, I submit that it may be in your best interest to avoid him as well. Best wishes to you.
Joel Welch: Very knowledgeable and good communicator. Trained under a brilliant DR. . Good PA on staff also. Would recommend to anyone. Manages both my thyroid issue and Type 2.
Jim Bush: Dr. Kryshak is an excellent doctor and has done a very good job in treating me for the past couple of years. He is personable and thorough. His Physician's Assistant Tamara Martin is also outstanding.
W: Absolutely the best Doctor I have ever seen. Returns emails immediately.
Shannon vanderploeg: My dad has been seeing Dr Kryshak for over 4 years now. He is a very friendly doctor. He is very truthful about lab test results and diagnoses. He gives straight and honest answers without beating around the bush.
barbara stuart: After visiting another doctor, I found that Doctor Kryshack had misdiagnosed me and was not truthful about the lab tests he had run. Although friendly, He gave inappropriate and simplistic answers to questions. Thank goodness his misdiagnosis had no ill effects and I found out about it soon enough. Be very cautious!
Jodie - sweet pea mrs c: I give Dr. Kryshak my highest recommendation. He has been my doctor for a long time, approx 20 years. He is knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and friendly. I trust him with my life.

Robert Selfe, DO: what do users think?
Jean Johnson: Top class care from all staff. Dr. Selfe is amazing!
James Cotter: Covered the basics well.
Todd Olson: Very good doctor, very, very poor customer service. I'm a diabetic and developed an ulcer on my left foot. Was seen at Spectrum Health United Wound Clinic. When my wound was healing the Nurse Practioner had Teter Prosthetics come in and take an impression of my feet for orthotics and diabetic shoes. I had to have Dr. Selfe sign off on the request for insurance purposes. Dr. Selfe has had the form for almost 3 weeks and still hasn't found the time to sign and fax back to Teter. I an waiting for these shoes and orthotics so that I can get out of a cast and start living my life again, but Dr. Selfe doesn't seem to care.
Jeff Murray: After waiting for many months for my initial appointment with Dr Selfe, today received a text saying tphe needs to reschedule appt 9 days out. Tired of medical professionals unable to maintain a simple schedule, patents get charged if they miss so why don’t docs? This is ridiculous, and I already apologized to the receptionist for lending me her ear. He was my second referral by my primary because first one never contacted me and primary commented they were having issues with them! Is this what Spectrum?
Lisa VanTol: Had my 1st appointment today! Awesome experience- can’t wait to continue my care with Dr. Selfe
Claire Davis Gabl (Claire Suzanne): An excellent physician!!! He is organized, on time, and an superior educator. He comes into the exam room and he is always up to date with my care and he has a plan. He is the type of physician any diabetic patient should want to have managing their care!

Dr. Emilie M. Collins, MD: what do users think?
Bethany Jacobs: Receptionist is very unfriendly and apathetic. My aspiration to schedule to see Dr. Collins stopped after my first conversation with the receptionist.
Phil Goushaw: Dr. Collins is simply an exceptional physician who takes a collaborative approach with her patients. She has consistently gone above and beyond to help diagnose and treat my issues. I have a rare condition that is difficult for many of my providers to understand or treat. Dr. Collins actually did additional research on my condition independently and took extra time to get me the diagnosis and help that I needed. I am a physician myself and have worked with most every endocrinologist in town and I strongly feel that Dr. Collins is the best endocrinologist in the Grand Rapids area.
Aly S.: I've found it so hard to find a good thyroid doctor and I'm SO glad I found Dr Collins. She's very knowledgeable, very organized, discusses everything WITH you, and gets your take on things. She feels like my healthcare partner and not just my doctor, which is so hard to find in any doctor, especially endocrinology from my experiences. I get along great with her as well! I love her new office, lots of quality time with her and everyone is very nice. Highly recommend her care and she simplifies things so it's all very easy to understand.
Jane: Dr. Collins is the most professional, knowledgeable, and kindest physician I have ever met. She saved my life. Her researches to develop a competent, scientific diagnosis, testing, and treatment plan for each patient for their individual needs. Treatment plans include a medical, yet holistic approach. She understands the struggle in coping with a chronic condition and voices empathy with encouragement. Every year, I have health maintenance appointments and have never experienced anything, but pleasantness. Her team's prompt response to my calls or messages are same day or next morning. I have recommended family, friend, and co-workers to her practice.
Lynn Formigoni: She and her team discriminate against trans* people, based on my experiences as a paitent seeking endocrinological care from her office. She took my records- I faxed then over because she said she could help me manage my chronic medical conditions, and then when she discovered that I'm trans*, she now won't give them back to me, as I have requested numourous times, via calling her office and talking to office staff, and leaving messages. She's esseentially committing medical hate crimes, because you simply cannot legally take people's records under the guise of providing them care, then not treat them due to your "Catholic faith", and then you especially cannot keep their medical records and not even give them back as has been requested reapeatedly, as has happened to me personally. I have reason to believe this is due to trans*phobia coming from her, her office staff, and her organization, Mercy Health St. Mary's.
