Margaux: what do users think?
Joe Blow: Extremely disappointed in the food quality. Service was excellent. We won't be back! The food offering for a $50.00 per head breakfast brunch, was comparable to IHOP! The Omelet Chef was the best thing they had going! He was really good.
Ms Jade: Made Mother's Day dinner reservation's two weeks in advance. 6pm 15 minutes prior to our reservation, I received a phone call from staff stating outdoor seating wasn't available.. But makeshift seating with Riverview was still available. We arrived for our party of 6. We were Sat in the hotel lobby. The host apologized, we were Sat. The brunch buffet apparently was a hit because there was bacon strips and food all over the floor under our table and throughout. Disgusting. We reluctantly Sat made the best of the situation. Server came. All 6 in our party ordered salad, appetizers & steak dinners. Everyone ordered (med-med well) all plates were rare had to be sent back. When the plates did come out we had to wait an additional 20 mins for our server to come back. Because, no one was given a steak knive. We asked for recommendations for wine pairings. Multiple drinks from the very limited specialty menu we're not available. Our server kept trying to convince me to get a bottle of wine and if we didn't finish we could cork it. Quite inappropriate considering 3 of our 6 guest were adolescents. Completely and udderly disappointing Mothers Day experience. I've dined here more than a handful of times and never had this kind of experience here. We'll never be returning to Margeau for Special occasions!
Michelle V: We went for the breakfast buffet. Nice ambiance, elevated tableware, our waiter was amazing and accommodating, and good food that rotated out as it became closer to lunch time. Definitely a nice brunch spot!
Rhiannon: A quick summary: This place has been on my list of places to experience. We finally came here for a date night. Upon walking in, the ambience is very nice and upscale as you would expect. Our waitress was fantastic and our waters were topped off before we could ever get down to half-empty, which we truly appreciate because dying of thirst before getting halfway through a meal and having to flag someone down never makes for a great experience so 10/10 on customer service and the wait staff taking great care of us! The food is delicious and overall well-presented too! I highly recommend giving this place a try.For more detail of our experience and the food, continue reading..The drinks:We love water. So we usually get that but I also ordered an espresso martini. The drink was made well. The alcohol didn’t overpower the espresso, which I appreciated. A well-made drink that was truly enjoyable. The appetizers:We started out with the oysters and a potato dish. Wasn’t a huge fan of the potato dish but the oysters made up for it as they were DIVINE! I am usually an Oyster Rockefeller gal and I’m not a fan of raw oysters but when they’re served properly, it’s the best treat! It’s all about balance and I would order these oysters again and again! The acidity of the mignonette, the layout of the salt, the sweet tartness of the sauce and the playful texture of the gelée really elevated this dish. I hope they’ll keep this on the menu because I’ll be coming back for these oysters! Now for the main course:I ordered from the “specials” menu. I had the lamb. I’ve never had a lamb before the way that it was prepared here. It was like a filet but a lamb. Perfect texture, great taste and we absolutely enjoyed eating this. The veg surrounding the lamb didn’t look the most appealing but it was extremely appetizing and I found myself eating most of it. I also ordered the side of fancy mushrooms and although it was not something you’d just eat on its own, when eaten with the lamb, it helped elevate that dish even more. A perfect pairing.Mr. Sexy ordered a Luxe seafood platter. Once he saw a picture in other google reviews, he already knew what he was coming for, lol. The broth that the seafood sat in was extremely flavored and not watered down, which made every bit of seafood on the plate and every bite very flavorful. We also loved that they complimented that dish with a cheesy pasta afterwards because it really helps “hit the spot” and pasta is such a comfort food, plus, it’s always a great pairing with most seafood dishes. So at this point, we are soooo full and satiated but we don’t dare leave this place without trying dessert…So now onto dessert:The cheesecake is phenomenal! I loved the fresh strawberry with it as well as the pistachio but wished there was more strawberry. We also had the passion fruit chocolate dessert. It was really good too but I would recommend asking for an extra scoop of gelato as the chocolate is a bit rich. We also got the creme brûlée which is just one of my favorites so I’ll always order it. It was garnished with fresh fruit on top and was delicious as expected.Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner date here. A great experience with great service and the food was definitely top-notch. We would come here again. Highly recommend!

Steven Caio: I first came here shortly after they reopened under a new name with an updated menu and was less than impressed. I recently came back with a group of friends and was blown away by the improvements made. The quality of the food was so much better. Juan Fernando Ortiz: The waiter told me that the tip was already included in the bill, is that true, the waiter seem new. He told me it was 20% already included, if that is true, I would say that would highly unethical It was a party of 2!!!.
Soojin Jeong: Recommended dishes Moules Chasseur, Creme BruleeMore
Jason Mulder: Food was delicious! Service was ok.
Elliot Olson: Felt a like a hotel with overpriced food business people eat. Not a must go to for experience and creativity like the bill suggests.
Dillon Pinkus: Absolutely, positively, utterly enchanting. Head to toe perfection. Service from the busboys to our server Alyssa to the manager Callie top notch in every way. What a beautiful, flavorful and soigne menu by Chefs Kelsey and Giuseppe. Hats off to the entire team. Will be back soon.
Heidi Ford: Gosh, I almost hate to post this so Margaux can continue to 'stay under the radar' but WOW it was great!Everything, the food, the service - Liz our server was lovely, kind, and patient,(she fussed over Grammie and made sure she had the perfect drink). The ambiance, the wine choices -- it was all top notch. I did not have a cocktail but my dinner companions did and found them well done. Although on the expensive side, everything we ate was excellent in both taste and preparation.Honestly, Margaux is GR's best kept secret - a hidden gem!
Autumn Knol: Was intimidated going in but we had a LOVELY time celebrating my parents' birthdaysFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Laura Johnson: Exquisite food, fabulous staff! Liz was amazing (ask for her table). Perfect way to celebrate my husband's birthday. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the baked Alaska was literally a feast for the palate.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Mark Rodgers: I had an excellent dining experience at the Margaux. My french friends gave thumbs up as they felt it is authentic french cuisine. Delicious and tasty preparation Indeed!
Bill Norton: Platinum elite member here. Two weekends in a row the bar tried to sneak a bottle of wine in on my tab. Once is a mistake, twice is culture problem.
Mark Robinson: Always great food and serviceFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Brad Konkle: Went there for my birthday. Started off with Gun Rue old fashioned cocktails, very good, smooth flavor. Then we received complementary bread that seemed a bit stale and hard to chew, like it was reheated. Next we had beef tartare, not the same as it used to be. Instead of a classic preparation it was more like a beef dip with the beef ground very finely and a lot of other ingredients incorporated with it that muted the beef flavor. It wasn't bad, but not what we traditionally consider beef tartare. The mustard potato chips that came with it were fresh and very delicate so you couldn't drag it through the dip but they did melt in your mouth. The French onion soup looked spectacular, the top was covered with melted cheese that was hot and very gooey and the French onion soup had a good flavor, the crouton was unfortunately a pile of mush at the bottom of the bowl, like it was from a previous day and reheated. The stale bread did work as a substitute crouton to make the soup a little better. The salads we had were mixed results as well. The Ceasars with salmon was excellent. Well dressed lettuce with good flavor and a large, perfectly cooked fillet of salmon. The winter salad I got was the opposite, incredibly bland with almost no redeeming qualities. We were offered a complementary chocolate mousse to finish the off the meal that was very good. The service was always excellent.Parking: Parking validated at restaurant
Meghan Couch: Lovely atmosphere, delicious wine, mediocre food, service lacking-at best. I was very disappointed with my dinner experience. If I’m paying 4 star prices, I expect a 4 star experience. The drinks, appetizer, and meals took SO long to get to us. We didn’t mind that so much, but our server never came back to our table to get our second round of drinks. The meal presentation would have made me laugh, if it weren’t so expensive. Shortly after taking receiving our meals, a manger came to us asking if we would like them boxed up. There was one really nice female manager that got me part of my meal that was missing, and brought us our second round of drinks. She was wonderful.Overall, very disappointing. I might give it another try.
Kendra Morris: Been twice. First time we had breakfast and it was buffet style. The chef was behind the counter and was super friendly and chill. The food was great, especially the chocolate croissants. Went again for lunch and got the falafel which was excellent. Def on the expensive side but the food is good.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Truffle Fries …More
Illiana Falkenstern: The food here is exquisite. Really, really good. Service is friendly. I would highly suggest that whoever maintains the JDek igloo domes conducts a walk-through and troubleshoots issues with door latches and heating. This was a challenge upon most recent visit. Aside from that element (which is not under the control of Margaux or a reflection on the chef), I would highly recommend it.

Mertens Prime (formerly New Hotel Mertens Brasserie): what do users think?
Thao Tran: The host was super rude but the servers were amazing. Water tasted weird to me but I don't like tap water. Very accommodating with my sodium restrictions for the steak kind of disappointed that the garlic that came with it was hard to eat instead of the soft version, garlic mashed potato was delicious though.Food: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
T D: My review is strictly on poor customer service. Had a reservation there for 4:30pm for Mother's Day. Was promptly seated. Sat there over 12 mins. without one waiter or waitress saying a word to us not even hi I will be right with you. They served the couple tables around me and it was like we were invisible. After waiting over 12 mins. We went to the front desk and ask to speak to a manager. The lady who was seating people said she was manager, which is odd bc managers don't usually seat people.I told the lady what happened how we didn't receive any service. With a smirk on her face she said sorry we are busy, which at that time they really weren't in my opinion. She then asked would we like to be reseated. At that point, i was getting extremely annoyed and asked to speak to someone in charge. Same bs was coming out her mouth. We just left. Completely ruined my Mother's Day. I will never go there again!

Drew Looyenga: Mertens Prime is the definition of a premium steakhouse restaurant. It's a tight race between MDRD and Mertens Prime for the title of the fanciest schmanciest restaurant in Grand Rapids. You're going to want to dress up a little to come here or you're going to feel out of place. The location has a lot of history baked right into the menu. The cocktail menu hails back to the early 1900s when this building was a fancy schmancy hotel in the same hospitality vein as the world famous Ritz Carlton. The ambiance of the place leans into that history. The bar itself even has mixologists in the white lab coat, setting the tone of how seriously this place is about what it's trying to be. The menu explains the chronological history of the various owners (like Mertens) and of the building itself. It's really fascinating stuff. I love that our humble city of Grand Rapids boasts something like this.I don't even have to tell you this place is going to cost you a mortgage payment. Drinks are actually pretty standard downtown prices, around 12-20 dollars for a cocktail. The lowest end steak they have is going to be 70 dollars. All the sides are a la carte. I had the Brussels sprouts with my steak. They were so good they made me want to slap past me for ever saying I didn't like Brussels sprouts. Just so you prepare, if you and a plus one get a steak, a side, and a drink each, you're staring down the barrel of a 250 dollar bill without tip. They have some other things on the menu if you want to try and keep the bill down. They had various poutines on the menu, which surprised me some. But this is Mertens Prime. If you're here, get a steak. It'll rank among the best steaks you'll ever have in your life. That's a promise. If you're going out for a fancy dinner to celebrate a life achievement or you're attempting to dine and dazzle a client, then Mertens Prime is an excellent choice. You're definitely going to need reservations, though, so be prepared.
Chris T: The food was amazing. Several things on the menu I would like to try. Got the mac & cheese and brussel sprouts for sharable sides and both were excellent. The drink menu is top notch and made with a heavy pour. Can't recommend this place enough.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Ratatouille Stuffed Pepper …More
Jess Wojo: The place is unique in that it is an historical building that serves French cuisine and wine. Onion soup was delicious. Overall, the steak and duck were comparable to other restaurants with lower prices.
Campbell Wiersma: went here with my 7 besties for a graduation celebration. the service was amazing, the food was incredible, and the building was stunning. We ordered drinks, and they were phenomenal as well! Would recommend to anyone looking for a high-end resteraunt in GR!Parking: the resteraunt will validate parking for two garages right on the same street on the resteraunt!
Dennis Ross: This food here is so excellent! Some of the best fine dining service I’ve ever had. Server was very kind and very on top of everything. Prices mirror food quality. The duck l’orange and the filet mignon was so delicious! I recommend the mashed potatoes!Recommended dishes Duck Confit, Cheese Plate …More
Brian Lichterman: My new wife and i, along with another couple were celebrating. We arrived at 5:50pm, our reservation was at 6:00pm. We were greeted warmly and promptly. It took us a minute to get settled in and ordered a round of apertifs: 2 sazeracs, a pink lady, and a glass of sparkling wine. It took about 20 minutes to get the drinks, but they forgot the sparkling wine. We were conversing, so it honestly was not paying attention to the wait. We placed starters and entrees/sides:Starters hit the table at 7:00ish:Bone Marrow - tasty, loved the marrow spoons! Could have had less caramelized onions, honestly, ratio was a little off.Beet and chevre - server recommended and was great. Creamy and just a beautiful salad.Montréal poutine - traditional brown gravy was gritty. Not my favorite.Dijon Poutine - the addition of the dijon was a great touch with the smokey bacon. This one was much better than the other poutine. At this point, i had ordered the "2016 pascal granger, "Clos de Pouletes"" for the table just so that it could breathe for a minute before the four steaks we ordered came. By this time it was 7:45pm before the entrees came. We honestly were blown away that it was so late and entrees hadn't arrived. Our server appeared to have 3 tables. We had to accelerate our eating to make our next event that started at 8 that we pushed back to 830. Back to the wine... when our entrees dropped, our server informed us that the wine i had ordered (and wanted to breath a second) was out of stock and said "we will find something comparable." The manager brought it over and it was the wrong wine and discovered that it was for her other table. The server returned with another wine, presented it, in which i will say, by this time, i did not remember what we had ordered so i said ok. It was a lovely wine, however, later discovered after we had paid, in haste, that we were charged almost 3x the amount of our original bottle of wine. Shame on us for not checking the price before we paid the check, however, shame on the restaurant for finding something "comparable". A restaurant has an obligation to find a wine comparable in flavor AND in price.... or at least let the guest know of cost difference. It was recognized there were some difficulties by the server and manager and the both apologized. The manager apologized again and gave us a gift card to come back. This is "managing a restaurant 101" and i thank you for recognizing it was not the best performance. However, i find it rather insulting the price difference in the bottle we received and the one we ordered was +$91 and the gift card we received was just $15. That's not even enough to offset one sazerac ($14) with tax and tip. Our total bill was around $500 without tip. One can do the math of our 3% "gift card" compensation to our +31% increase in bottle of wine to billFood was good, service was pretty good. Just some growing pains and training for guest satisfaction.
Jereme Lambert: Food was very good. However, I didn’t love the atmosphere. It seems the wealthier you are the more drab and broken you want the venue to be that your in. Just my personal preference, I didn’t love the old, peeling paint, non-remodeled, broken looking interior.
Karla Penate: This has been one of our favorite places to stop by when I'm out on date night with my husband. We have been going to this place since 4 years ago. We stopped by last Friday night after having dinner al Luna and brought our friends with us to show them one of our favorite places, however, we were targeted by the manager and bartender as soon as we walked through the door. When we sat down at the bar, the bartender gave us really bad attitude, we kind of ignored it at first, but then he was so rude and we decided to address it, we almost walked out but we had already ordered a drink and thought it would be rude to just leave. My friend asked the bartender if he was ok and he told her that he was fine, that he had been asked by the manager to not serve us anything the moment we walked in, but he decided to let us order one drink and then asked us to check out, we talked to the manager who took no responsibility at all. It was such an aggressive experience and it sadden me because I love the place and now it feels like we can never go back after the way we were treated and targeted by the manager and bartender. My feedback is to not take out your frustrations or personal preference on the customers, I'm still confused on what made them target us, if it was because the bartender or manager were having a bad day, I or if there is another unknow reason. I had never experienced such awful and aggressive treatment before. ☹
Jenny Chen: More to come on the details but this was the most hostile service experience I’ve ever received.
Chris Brown: Had a wonderful time for our anniversary. Ordered the roasted chicken and pork chops. Both were cooked to perfection. Also had the fried brussel sprouts which were the best.
victor hernandez: Great food. Good service.
Asheesh Batra: Had a pretty subpar experience across multiple levels. First off the ambience while nice was a lot more rustic than I would've expected so a bit charming. The bread was cold and borderline stale, the soup I ordered was served hot (vichyssoise is supposed to be cold as even the waitress told me). Not only did she not realize this when giving it to me but made no apologies when taking it back as I had to wait while the rest of the party dined. Even when getting the correct dishes, the flavors were overly salty and underwhelming - I've rarely been so disappointed in such place.
Nicole Proxmire: Amazing experience with the perfect ambience. Our server was the best, Perla. Go see her for an amazing night.

Dreamer RT 21: I was in Grand Rapids for a two-day conference and found this lively spot after doing the standard "restaurants near me" Google search. Man, what a find! The atmosphere was electric and the place was bustling with activity. There was a violinist and a bassist playing music to add to the ambiance. Debbie was my waitress and she was amazing and attentive but not overly so.I had the pear and blue cheese salad and would drive 2 and half hours across the state just to go back for that alone! The lemon cake was amazeballs as well. I chose the asparagus risotto for my entrée and the flavor was off the charts. All in all, it was a fun and fantastic evening and the perfect escape from the boredom and sterility that usually accompany conferences when you're on the road alone.Highly recommend!

The owner took the time to come by and greet us and make sure we were all happy.Highly recommend.By the way I had Butter Egg Noodles with the Marsala and Wild Mushroom Sauce. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Bellissimo Bellissimo: We dined in there on our anniversary night. This is indeed a hidden gem on 28 th street if you want to spend some cozy and quality time with your loved ones or special one. We enjoyed the food, ambience and the service. One star down only because I found the menu is not having wide variety but might be the case that chef just wanted to keep those items which will speak about distinguished French cuisine. This restaurant can be bit pricey to few but if you want to try something different and want to celebrate special occasions then you must try this out. They also have a decent party hall kind of area if you wish to invite few more people.I am planning to come back again.
Heather Morrison: So good! Everything about this place is great! We showed up on a Saturday with no reservations and scored their last open table (lucky for us)! Our waitress immediately stopped by to take our drink orders and was kind and attentive all evening. Always showing up before we needed her but not checking in too often. The food was amazing! This time, we both ordered options off the weekly special menu and we were not disappointed. We have been a couple of times and this is always the case.Parking: Large, free parking lot. You may have to walk a little ways, but you will easily find somewhere to park.
Ali Abdo: Great food and friendly service 💯
c collins: Good service. Nice ambiance. However, the inaccurate listing of prices online is greatly misleading and leaves a bad taste. Prices are 80-100% higher in the restaurant than on their website. Steak listed $28, charged $52. Risotto $16/charged $25. Coq au vin $17/ charged $30 - and so on. Asparagus risotto had no taste despite adding pepper and salt, it was nothing more than a bowl of bland risotto. Terribly overpriced. Disappointing. Not a French restaurant at all. No espresso machine to order cappuccino or espresso.
Bridget Gibbs: What an incredible experience. Ackrum, the owner, is so friendly and talented. We had the best food in a wonderful environment!

Steven Castle: Speaking for only the two dishes I ordered:The French Onion Soup was really quite flavorful and had a nice deep broth. Piping hot! Just as it should be.The Papperdelle was wonderful and reminded me that americanized wine sauces are often too aggressive. This sauce had a full profile and as I left the establishment I had the luxuriously soft and buttery after taste playing in my tongue.I would eat here again, and as I’m in town for another day, I will eat here tomorrow.

Ryan: A Memorable Evening at The Little Bird!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Last night, I had the pleasure of dining at The Little Bird, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and impeccable service, setting the tone for the rest of the evening. The atmosphere at The Little Bird is a perfect blend of intimate and inviting, with tasteful décor and soft lighting that create a cozy dining experience. I appreciated the carefully curated artwork on the walls and the delicate bird-themed touches that brought the restaurant's concept to life. The menu offered a wide range of delectable dishes, each crafted with an artful blend of flavors and textures that cater to a variety of tastes. I was delighted to find a selection of appetizers, mains, and desserts that showcased the creativity and skill of the chef. One of the highlights of the evening was trying their signature cocktail, the "Feathered Fizz." This refreshing blend of gin, elderflower liqueur, lemon, and sparkling wine was a true delight. The presentation was stunning, with a delicate feather garnish that truly embodied the essence of The Little Bird. The service throughout the night was exceptional, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who were more than happy to recommend dishes and answer any questions I had. Every visit has been on a busy weekend and despite the limited seating in this cozy establishment, my group and I have always been sat in a reasonable time—Usually less than a 30 minute wait.Table service is always quick and pleasant.Food is consistently fabulous, both classic dishes and unique menu items. We always get an order of the seasonal French toast for the table to start. It seems like every flavor is better than the last. For savory items we have ordered the brunch burger and steak & egg’s multiple times—SO GOOD. And this last visit we also had their French omelette and it was amazing.Keep it up Little Bird !
