Pattie Cihacz: Tech (Tex) showed up at appointed time dis removal and install of new tub and surround and associated plumbing. Was a day long job. He was polite neat and clean in appearance. Was neat and cleaned up area he worked on. I was impressed. He went over paperwork and payment at the end. (Had to return next morn because needed a pipe he didn’t have with him because drain wasn’t as tight as should have been. He made the repair and was done in less than an hour. I discussed the security handicap handles that Mark and I discussed but we forgot to write on work order. Tex said he would see if in stock and talk to clerk and be back when they were available. Robalyn Rose VanSolkema: We had a total bathroom remodeling done. Remove the soaking tub which no one could get in or out of. Remove the original shower. Replaced shower where the tub was. Added two new sinks and drawers and cuboards and enlarged my storage spaces. New tile on the floor and in the shower. Cambria on the counter tops and in the shower seat and step over that the glass door is on and also on the cuboard next to the toilet. It is very handy for hold tissues and toilet paper and other storage. Love the job. The workmen were always on time. They cleaned up after they were done for the day. Sam Paxson: Our builder sent us here for new kitchen cabinets, counters, bather cabinets, counters and much more.Staff is pretty rude and not very personable, it's almost like your a nuisance to them rather than a customer?! The few times we stopped into the store we felt we had inconvenienced them.We started this order prior to Covid, we are still dealing with our build as we ran into delays as most people. Our kitchen island is missing, they say it was delivered and not their fault but everything was delivered to the garage, locked and shut until time to install in the kitchen. Our bathroom vanity granite is broken, they say it was also the builders fault. You can see it was damaged due to how the company packaged the granite. The color we choose for the Kitchen counter tops is now no longer available but ordered almost 12 months ago, not sure how that happens? The hardware that we picked out for our kitchen cabinets was never ordered. The list goes on....They do not communicate very well with the builder or customer, order was pretty much all wrong besides the actual cabinets themselves. Things are broken that they will not cover or stand behind. I would not recommend this company to anyone . Save yourself some time, money and the frustration and go with a different company!!!!

Sarah Preisner: My husband and I went into the showroom back in December, wanting to get a quote on cabinets and countertops for our new build. We spent a couple hours picking out selections and were very happy with the interactions in the showroom. Fast forward a month and a half, we hadn't heard from anyone, so I emailed the two sales guys that we spoke with in the showroom. No response. Literally nothing. It's now been almost 4 months.Miraculously, our builder sent in our floorplan a few weeks ago and gets a quote back in two weeks.Basically, if you're not working through a builder, don't bother wasting your time here. As a previous kitchen designer, this was completely unacceptable and horrible customer service.

Tiffany Webster: We built a house this year, and this is where our builder sent us for our kitchen and bathroom needs. The wrong kitchen sink was delivered setting us back three weeks. It was an apron sink so the counters and tile work couldn’t be done until the sink was installed. When it came to the bathroom plumbing the sink and shower faucets were all wrong except one. I have called to get the correct faucets, and have been told they are on back order. A month later I haven’t heard a word. I emailed with no response. I called three times before Stephanie in plumbing took my call. She assured me they were still on back order and would email me with an eta. It has now been 3 months and I haven’t heard a word and she hasn’t emailed me with an eta. I sent another email 4 days ago and haven’t heard from anyone. Three months of living in my new house, still living with the wrong faucets, and crickets from this company. I’m pretty certain they hope I go away, and never replace my faucets. I will never shop here again or recommend this place to anyone. Btw, I spent over $17,000 at this place, and that did not include any vanities, mirrors, or hardware. Horrible customer service.

Barbara Rapaport: We ordered bathroom vanities and countertops. The vanities were ordered under the assumption that they would have soft-close and push-open drawers. The factory took the order but only produced the vanities with soft-close drawers, instead of contacting our Williams rep to let them know they cannot offer both features. So, we didn't discover that the drawers wouldn't open until after everything was installed, since there was no hardware on the vanities. Williams worked with our contractor not only to ensure we received a refund, but also to provide additional resources to help in fixing the problem. We received great customer service from Williams throughout this experience and are grateful for their help in rectifying the situation.

Laurieanne Knape: I am writing this review after 1 year of terrible service, from Nick and Tessia Pash at Kitchen Tune-Up Grand Rapids. I waited so that I did not let emotions come into play in my review. We had them remodel our basement kitchen and bath. I asked Nick multiple times if the project was to big for them and the answer was always no, but in the end the project that was supposed to take 6 weeks took over a year and was not completed by Kitchen Tune-Up. Please be aware they charge a 30% mark-up on all service, even if they don't manage it. On our project that added over $3,000 to our project. They don't take responsibility for their subcontractors.Tessia claims to be a designer - not true. She as no designs skills and was a complete waste of our time. Nick avoids situations and follow-up, we had to get experts into our home to tell him how this team did things wrong. They recommended subcontractors who took our money then went out of business without finishing our job. We ended up having to finish the work ourselves. The flooring company they brought in did a terrible job and we had to have our entire floor (2000+ sq ft) replaced and it is still wrong.I know having your cabinets refinished is very desirable, but I warn you to do your research on Nick and Tessia Pash, before you sign a contract. lindsey johnson: I had someone come out for a quote over a month and a half ago and was told I’d have the pricing within a week. I JUST met last week to discuss pricing and asked for an electronic breakout so that I could review the information further, I was told I’d have it within a day. Again, I haven’t heard anything back. Since working with HWC I have not received any follow ups or any form of communication on my project. It’s been an extremely big waste of my time at this point and we will be moving on elsewhere.

Micki Vankampen: I would love to give HWC 5 stars but screwed up scheduling knocked it back a little.Then today when the plumber arrived he did not have the sink or faucet with him (he was told it would already be here) and he was not aware that he was also to do a toilet install (no toilet with him either). Lance (the plumber) was a real champ and went back out to get the items without even losing his friendly smile.Meanwhile, Josh and Tex did an awesome job changing out the tub for a walk-in shower. They worked together like long time dance partners and made the work look easy.In the end, all the requested work was completed before the end of the day, including a good cleanup.HWC needs to vastly improve communications within their ordering/scheduling areas, but the designer and installers were all top notch.

Sarah Stickney: We are currently in a crisis with our basement renovation and were relieved to find a Amber Valley only to be disappointed and hurt that they turned down working with us because our project was too insignificant for their time. We were not expecting that response from a company that claims to be for people, especially for people who have previously been burned by a general contractor.

Mrs. Katie Przybyla-Kimball: We worked with Amber Valley for nearly 3 years on a huge house project, so we know their business fairly well.Even with all that time, we only ended up finishing a small basement project.Some of that was due to the pandemic but some was due to what I see as three drawbacks working with Amber Valley:1. Unclear or slow communication2. Inability to retain employees and contractors3. High pricesThis will be a very balanced review, so I will share what we loved about working with Amber Valley as well.The project development system, where we pay a bit up front and make all the decisions before actually signing the final contract, seemed like a great system because then we wouldn't be constantly making decisions throughout the project.The trouble came when we just couldn't get to the end of the project development and get that final quote. We really should have been breaking ground in April 2019, but we didn't get the final quote until mid-June. Part of that was definitely our responsibility because it was difficult to go to all the vendors and make every single decision in a timely fashion. However, we also found that Amber Valley was inflexible when we requested that we at least get something down, some final number, even if it had a range of $10,000 or so so that we could move forward on schedule.When the quote came in, it was a solid $50,000 more than expected.We decided to finish two basement rooms with Amber Valley as a sort of test run.It took until January, to get that started. Part of that was because anytime Amber Valley loses a project manager or designer, you kind of have to start over explaining the whole project because although the project development structure is very firm, there aren't enough organizational systems in the company to keep track of everything that happens in meetings with clients.We were satisfied with the work Amber Valley did in the basement, and Chris is a wonderful project manager. If he's still with the company, we can't recommend his attention to detail and care about your project enough.Because of the uncertainty and price increase that the pandemic brought, we did greatly reduce the scope of our project, but we should have still been able to use many bits and pieces of the old project development plan. Instead, we started over again because of 100% staff turnover.During this process in 2021, we were repeatedly frustrated by either a lack of or incomplete responses from key players on our remodel. If Joy is still the designer, her demeanor is strangely opposite her name.By the time the final quote came in for our reduced project after months of coordination, it was disastrously too high. We were able to act as our own contractor and get the kitchen remodel done for approximately half of Amber Valley's quoted price. We were not able to get our $6,000 project development fee back, even in part, because the contract for that fee is written heavily in Amber Valley's favor. Derek fairly stated that they had put at least that much work into our project, which is true, but in large part because of the continual staff turnover and need to re-explain and restart the whole thing.We part ways with a sour taste in our mouth, but still able to say some positive things. Derek is overall good to work with and has an endearing personality, but lacks systems and organization and tends to bite off more than he can chew. I think the company grew too big too fast.Chris is a spectacular project manager, and we were satisfied with all of the contractors who worked on our basement update. However, with all the turnover, that really doesn't mean much because it's probably different people who will work on your project.I'm sure there are some great advantages to the project development strategy, paying part down and making all the decisions before signing the final contract, but just make sure you assume a price increase and realize that the business will take a cut of all materials and charge quite a bit for their office work.Services:Basement remodeling,Drywall installation,General construction,Painting,Flooring

Helen Fradette: Great service and follow up. I had my roof replaced due to it being old, but it was also leaking in some areas. After the replacement, it appeared the problem area around the chimney wasn't sealed tight and continued to leak. They worked on it until it was sealed, including a water test and climbing in the crawl space free insulation attic to locate the specific place of entry. No more leaks!

Kristine Detmers: I desperately needed my only bathroom repaired and remodeled into an accessible one. After a disastrous kitchen remodel by another company several years ago I was reluctant to get started. I had other contractors in for estimates, but it still didn't feel right.I especially wanted some one to do the whole job and not turn me into a general contractor. My friend heard Derek on the radio and urged me to give them a call. Best move I could have made! Derek had his own experience with disabilities and understood exactly what I needed. He came up with a plan that fit my needs and stayed within my budget . Every workman and woman who came into my home was conscientious, courteous and diligent in their work and answered any questions I had. It may not sound like much, but they made sure I had a working toilet every night so I did not have to leave my home. As I was in- between hip and knee surgeries this was very important to me. There were delays of course some because I made changes and some because we had to wait on inspectors. It's unrealistic to think there won't be any on any building project. I now have a beautiful walk-in shower, glass block window updated electric, plumbing and cabinetry. I can't thank Derek and Amber Valley enough and will definitely use them for any future project. PS I also now have wonderful acoustics for shower singing too!

Sara Briggs-Grzegorski: My husband and I worked with Derek Anderson and Jordan from Amber Valley to completely gut and redo our kitchen and build a deck on to the back of our 1924 home, they also replaced several windows. Richard Evans: The work that Amber Valley did adding stairs to our preexisting deck was amazing. When we bought our new house we noticed that the deck didn't have stairs leading to the back yard. This is very important to us since we have kids, and a dog. Amber Valley was very professional, and let us know what was going on throughout the whole process. This was our 2nd major remodel experience in the past 6 years (our previous home was a complete gut/remodel project).1) Workmanship - top notch. Brian was our tile guy and he was fantastic. Very thoughtful, smart, and really good at tile. We did a ton of marble in our bathrooms, tile floors...and we are thrilled with the result. Don, our other main onsite guy, did most of the drywall, plumbing, fixtures...and did a fantastic job. Made sure things were done correctly.2) Price - I don't know how it compares, but I thought it was very fair and for the finished product, we have no complaints3) Communication - wonderful. He didn't take any shortcuts which I really appreciated. There was one part of our plumbing which wasn't done correctly...he insisted we tear it down and do it correctly. It was a huge project and the results are beautiful. Being without a kitchen for months is a challenge and they did everything they could to make it as painless as possible.Customer Service - The kitchen in our home is central to our main living space. The carpentry crew cleaned up every single time they were there as did the sub-contractors, sometimes to the point that I had to check in with our designer or Jess to see if work had been done (if the work was behind the scenes) because it didn't look like anyone had been there! I had timely responses from our designer and questions answered by the construction team. They always worked around our schedule if possible and expedited what they could even in a pandemic!I think I covered service above but the only real "service" issues we had were a few stragglers after the project and they took care of them until we were satisfied. Debbie Romig: 2 stars … one for showing up and one for finally finishing.Before using Grand Rapids Construction (located in Howard City, MI) make sure you state a start/end date in contract or you may find your quoted five week project is actually six months (ten months if they use your home as the storage unit prior to start). Ask to speak/view references for comparable project as your job (ask for repeat client references as well). Stick to stated payment schedule in contract (they asked for early payments because project was taking longer than planned). Be your own project manager (as one may not be provided) and the company uses many/different subs that are “cross-trained” and workmanship may not be consistent. Grand Rapids Construction portrays themselves as a large company but in reality a small company stretching their sub’s way too thin on “thirty other jobs besides yours”. Ultimately we ended up with the master bath we wanted (but we did have to hire additional tradespeople to finish details that GR Construction felt they were “not responsible for”). Very nice/professional in the beginning…not so much at the end. We are getting ready to refinish our basement and “NO” we will not be seeking the services of Grand Rapids Construction again. Hopefully they learned some things on our remodel that will assist their company (and customers) in the future. Good Luck.
