David: It's a nice showroom, and I do assign some value to that. However, their pricing is off the rails. My wife recently purchased a ceiling fan here, and the same EXACT fan retails for nearly 35% less at every online retailer that sells ceiling fans. It was a Kichler brand fixture, so nothing terribly unique or rare. Just costs a ton more at Grand Rapids Lighting.I'm not lying when I tell you that for the price difference, I could have purchased the fixture online, then paid a licensed electrician to install it, and STILL come out ahead.We returned the fixture. I like to support local retailers, but my loyalty has limits.

When I asked to see the ceiling fans, I was escorted to the area and then abandoned, despite having a lot of questions. I saw a number of light fixtures that may have worked. However, the lack of attentiveness of the staff encouraged me to shop elsewhere.

I showed him a photo of the look that I was going for and he cut me off and snapped “that’s not a brand we carry”.I also got the feeling that he looked down on me because at first, I inquired about replacing the glass on my pendant lights. He said would probably be a better value to replace the whole light- which is fine! I’m pretty sure I’ll do that.I went into the store instead of shopping online because I wanted to support a local business and was disappointed to be treated like that.

Tim VanAntwerp: Ok, the good. 1.5 hours from home. 5 light fixtures purchased. They were in stock. We drove home with the fixtures.. The bad.. The store was busy. We had to work with two different reps to complete our task. Fixtures are expensive, but they offered a discount. Who knows? The ugly: One fixture was damaged, repaired finish at home. Fixtures came with lamps...why did I spend $60 for lamps...oh well...spares. Overall 4.5 stars. We got fixtures, installed them, and its done. One trip. In stock. Yes I would recommend the Grand Rapids Lighting Center.

Amy Yu: Great place to pick up lawn supplies with a wide selection of LESCO products but man was their customer service demeaning. Lynn, who was working the desk, was very rude and unhelpful to me, although she was very courteous and eager to help the one other person in the store who was a regular, as well as those on the phone. It felt like I was that one bastard child at a family reunion whom she was obligated to interact with but would much rather not exist. She was more than willing to explain to me how SiteOne, though indeed open to the public, is meant for contractors and businesses, and little else, even rolling her eyes when I asked the availability of their other products. Still, I was able to find what I came in for, which beats having to wait a month if bought online. Just be warned: make sure you know exactly what you want because your not going to get any help from these guys, unless you already have a working relationship with them.
