Great Lakes Behavioral Health: what do users think?
Lisa Klenk: Really good experience every time
Jennifer Chapman-Cruz: I have known the whole staff over 23 years and there is nothing you can say bad about them. I appreciate all of them! They cared for me in my darkest hour with a priority-there was never a time that they acted shady or unfair! They are so caring, compassionate and always there for me!
Rick and Brenda Becker: Dr. Vander Velde's a truly caring person! The time it takes to get a diagnose, understand my needs and figuring out the appropriate medication, took so much energy for me but Dr. V was very patient, thorough and encouraging.
Ashley Blaauw: I had lost all hope until someone told me about this place! I love it and the PA is great to work with!
Carolyn Schroeder: Dr. VanderVelde is an empathic and caring man. He is also no-nonsense. If you are looking for someone to enable you to be unhealthy and non-compliant with your meds, don't go to him. He is THE most competent psychiatrist in Grand Rapids. I have referred many patients to him for 28 years. He runs late occasionally. However, that is sometimes due to emergent calls and ensuring patients' needs are met.
Leila: I have found that Dr. Vandervelde and his associates were very concerned for my health. They have helped me get through some tough times and allowed me to control my therapy and treatment as much as a patient is allowed. I am very happy with their care.
Deb Westveer: HE FIRED ME!!!I had been seeing Dr Vander velde for several years and never once was he ever on time. I'd schedule my appointments for the first one in the morning and still had to wait a half hour or more. I'm sorry but my time is important too. When waiting over a half hour for the first appointment of the day, I decided to reschedule for another time. I said that I thought it was rude and disrespectful that he was always late. (Every now and then I would be able to understand) I was told that he was back in his office reviewing files and would be out in a minute. I still chose to reschedule. By this time is was 45 minutes after my appointment. As I was leaving, I met him on the sidewalk coming in! and he wanted to discuss my mental health right there on the sidewalk! In the beginning of my next appointment he told me that he had over 800 patients and could not cater just to me. Then told me that I needed to find another psychiatrist and refused to give me any names of who I could call. "psychiatrists are in high demand in grand rapids so you probably want be able to find anyone." and then said he wouldn't be renewing my meds after a month.Very non professional. THIS PSYCHIATRIST COULD NOT HANDLE HIS CLIENTS FEELINGS .
Emma D. Anderson: I’ve been seeing him since 2012. Highly recommend.
Lanette Caudill: I had a really good experience. They helped me with medication for my issues and coordinated care with my physician.
Miren Lazzarini: Dr. Vandervelde really cares about his patients and truly has their best interests at heart. The front desk staff was a little rude but their are new employees that are very kind. They are great about rescheduling in my opinion, you just have to call in advance, not the same day, like any doctors office. Excellent psychiatry is incredibly difficult to come by in this city so he's worth the wait and won't tolerate patients no showing or same day rescheduling. Beautiful view from the office spaces too, right over the Grand River.
chris m: I'm sorry to hear others' experiences and perceptions of their care being inappropriate and mismanaged. It may not be the experience that others have had, but I've found the office staff to be helpful and friendly; the practitioner I see has been very empathetic and appropriately treating me for several years allowing me to be much more productive and less self-destructive. I feel that one of the reviews posted by someone unhappy with their care may have been based on their lack of insight rather than an objective assessment of psychiatric care.
Anonymous: I don't even know what to say. The office staff was much ruder than they needed to be, more than any doctors office I've been to. But the doctor was very out of touch and the visit was a waste of time. I've seen a few doctors before but this one looked at me, no questions asked, and made sure I knew my diagnosis. Said he has worked with "more bipolars than anyone in the city" ... so he must understand everything about all patients? He wouldnt let me talk or explain anything, just kept making sure he could talk (and repeat himself). I had been waiting to get refills for my medications from an actual psychiatrist and he refused to write any. Extremely unhelpful and felt like more of an interrogation than a doctor appt. This dude has zero empathy or respect for people with mental health problems.Their billing is messed up too. I got there and instead of paying my copay they tried to get me to pay the full thing -- which isn't what I was told when I set up the appt.
Theresa Bandkau: I tried to reschedule a cancelled appointment and mary, the new patient scheduler, was extremely rude, a real b**otch. Because "psychchiatrist are in demand", she would not reschedule even though my daughter had been sick and could not make the first appointment. They still charged me $50.00 for the missed appointment because it was the day of the appointment when I called. First appointment was scheduled in April, I called back in June after school was out and apparently the doctor was now not taking any new patients even though this would have been a reschedule. Not sure what the doc is like, but the scheduler should be sent for training on customer service. If you didn't have anxiety before you would after you spoke to her.
Issabela G.: I call this center for an apoiment the schedule new patient was extremly rude, she told me that she didn't have time for this, let me tell you this, don't waste your time! Just look for another clinic, they charge the same and they will be KIND

Spectrum Health Medical Group Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine: what do users think?
Taylor Dalton: Don't entertain this place as an option if you actually want to be helped.I scheduled a virtual, new patient appointment with SHMG 3 weeks in advance at the beginning of July. The woman I spoke to on the phone told me they would send over an access link via MyChart some time before the appointment. Prior to this I had contacted them a few times for referral information and stuff like that, but after my appointment was scheduled I didn't call again. On the day of my appointment I realized I hadn't received the MyChart link, so I decided to call. Someone answers, Victor, and I tell him I haven't received the link to my appointment yet and I ask if he could send it over. He tells me my appointment isn't in the schedule and that there's a note saying it was cancelled by the patient. I tell him that's odd because I never called to cancel, the last time I called was to set up the appointment. I had no reason to cancel; I've been struggling with severe depression and bi polar mood swings for a while and I was excited to finally be getting some help and some answers.Victor places me on hold to ask the person who wrote the note for more detail. After about 10min on hold, he comes back and tells me that a neurology department called SHMG and told them that I called this neurology department and asked them to call SHMG to cancel my appointment for me. Confused? Yeah, me too.I told Victor that I didn't contact any neurology department and that I didn't cancel this appointment. He apologized and said he could reschedule my appointment but it would be at least another month before they could get me in. ANOTHER MONTH?! For something that wasn't even my fault! Why are you taking calls from random neurology departments to cancel patient appointments, anyway? Shouldn't you only cancel if you hear from the patient directly? I guess that's not how they operate. So, now I am back at square one and I've lost over a month of my time going back and forth with this place. The only reason they're getting 1 star and not 0 is because Google requires at least one star, and because Victor was actually very sincere and apologetic about everything; definitely the nicest and most competent person I spoke to there.I can't speak to the quality of their psychiatrists since I didn't actually get to meet with one, but I would still advise that you don't waste your time and that you go somewhere else.

Jahandar Saifollahi, MD, Psychiatrist: what do users think?
Lexi Miguel: He’s been treating me for years and since I’ve been seeing him I haven’t been admitted to the hospital for the past five years. He does well with medications and really listens to what you have to say. I thank him for saving my life
Michele Watson: Dr. Saifollahi has provided me with unparalleled support for my multiple sclerosis (MS) symptoms. I thank Dr. Saifollahi and recommend him to all.
Michelle Wilcox: Dr. Saifolahi is wonderful, he listens to patients and has a wealth of knowledge and experiance. Highly reccomend.
Cheryl Butler: He truly cares for his patients. When I was sick and cancelled my appointment, he called me. He asked if he could call in any refills. He's a kind, considerate Doctor
Suzanne LaBatt: I have worked with Dr Saifollahi for 11 years. He is actually a Neurophysiologist who specializes in psychiatry. He is extremely knowledgeable about how the brain and psychiatric meds work together. We did get off to a rocky start, but you can definitely trust that he puts your wellness first, and his ego away. He is the best psychiatrist I have ever worked with; that’s the thing: you work with him. Not him dictating what he thinks you need.
T: I was with my old Dr. since I was a child and really struggled finding someone who wasn't going to drastically change decades of decisions and progress but luckily I found Dr. Saifollahi. From the first day Dr. Saifollahi has surprised me. He clearly has a deep understanding of his field and actually cares about the wellbeing of his patients.I highly recommend you contact Dr. Saifollahi if you're looking for good psychiatric care. He is honest and straightforward and I'm so glad to have someone like him to help me.I would also like to point out that the receptionist is awesome. She took it upon herself to help me with a problem with my pharmacy. I would've been on the phone with so many people for so long it might have taken all day.I just had a very nice and short phone call with her and then less than 48 hours later I had a very nice voice message from her and one from my pharmacy saying the problem was resolved. She saved me so much time and saved me from the headache of calling and waiting. Clearly she is a very kind and hard working person.5/5 from me
Margaret Maat (Mags): This doctor ripped me off all my meds, put me on two meds that cause Stevens Johnson Syndrome and even though I told him I have Tardive Dyskinesia, he put me on an Antipsychotic medication. I have never suffered so many awful side effects and then been completely ignored when reporting them. I don't even have the disorder he decided I have. He basically almost killed me. The most frightening doctor I have ever dealt with. I have a seizure disorder too and this psychiatrist argued with my Nuerologist. He gaslit my doctor and would tell me to my face, you're not having seizures. The medication he put me on caused permanent eye damage. I have double vision from a weak muscle in my eye. The medication he gave me caused me to not be able to see well, double vision and my eyes were rolling into the back of my head.It took me a year and a half to get my medication back on the levels I was on.
Meredith Keasey: Yes, he is very abrasive. But he knows meds better than anyone in the state. Saved my life eight years ago with an almost two-year battle with perinatal mood disorder. He helped me get on social security disability and get my student loans forgiven. He meets with you longer than most pdocs, asks a lot of questions and provides counsel. You just have to get used to his communication style and not take it personally. He's a good dude.
Melissa Wells: Great Doctor! He is a straight shooter and doesn't have time for games, so if your up to shenanigans you will be sorry for wasting his time. However, if your looking for a well versed experienced Psychiatrist this is absolutely the doctor choice for you. I am grateful to have him on my care team. My quality of life has improved so much since being under his care I can't help but leave a raving review for others to see how wonderful he is as a doctor.
Karman Houtstra: In the beginning, I had a love/hate relationship with Dr. Saifollahi. He says it like it is, and that can be intimidating. However, as I have continued to see him, I realize the great insight he has into people's psyche. He has helped me grow and cope with my continued problems at home. He knows the medications well and when it's time to adjust. I trust him completely.
Brianna Stepanek: I cannot believe there are ANY negative reviews on this man.He took my husband from having a full mental breakdown to being so stable that he got offered a 6 figure job.
Paula Peckham: I like Dr Saifollahi because of his personality, and medical knowledge
Mkaytlta Schuekerten: I love Dr Saifollahi! He is the best Dr. ever! I am so thankful for him and all that he has done for my family and I!!! I HIGHLY recommend him!!!- Kyla U.
Alice St. Onge: Very rude no faith in his service.
Michael Grabow: He seemed a little scary when I first met him 6 years ago, but he really has been very friendly with me and listens if I tell him a medication is not working for me. I enjoy visiting him.
Sarah Elsea: HE IS AWFUL!!! I work for The House of Promise which helps victims of human trafficking, he refused to listen at all then twisted everything she said & brought her to tears, told her "if you don't take it, don't come back". Was unbelievably rude, the office staff seemed scared of him. NOT a good man, I never leave reviews but I could not help myself with this one. I have never met someone who wanted to "help" people but was SO terrible to them.
Dawn Wharton: Had a horrible experience with this psychiatrist. He did not listen well. He was very condescending and arrogant. He refused to listen to my other medical conditions that make it very hard to find psychiatric meds that work without hurting my liver or kidneys. I reported him to the Michigan licensure office.

Dr. David D. Vander Velde, DO: what do users think?
Valerie Valentine: I cannot let Dr. Vander Velde's review be left so negatively. He is very determined to find solutions for his clients.I find him to be friendly, kind, while bringing out your joy and understanding your pain. He is thoughtfully thorough and has a great knowledge of medications explaining the uses thereof. I am very disappointed to have to leave his practice due to his retirement.
Monica Diaz: Experienced long lasting trauma from seeing this doctor & receiving an incorrect diagnosis. He spent very little time with me and gave me an informational piece of paper about a diagnosis he gave me. I have since seen caring and knowledgeable mental health care providers that have supported my health and wellbeing in a far more accurate and comprehensive way. This doctor has benefited from the high need for psychologists, rather than his own expertise, skill, and care for patients.

Dr. Kenya Alexander: what do users think?
Rick Sprague: She is a terrible Dr. She has prescribed medications for my grandson, even though she has not seen him in person for 3 years. I would not recommend her to treat anyone for any complaint. She has more concerns for his mother than she has for the PATIENT. I am embarrassed for you. You should be ashamed of yourself. She has CAUSED harm to him. He is a gifted child and you missed that. You never had a PRIVATE conversation with him. WOW you are one of the worst Dr.
Catie Doyle: THIS DR IS MEDICAL MALPRACTICEShe got her phd from webmd.Did not receive quality care when switching medication, (on more than one occasion) resulting in miserable withdrawals. Was instructed to “cold turkey” off of antidepressants which played critical roles in my everyday life, also resulting in excruciating withdrawals. Very rude, condescending, judgmental, cold demeanor. Fails to be understanding and compassionate, does not listen. Please feel free to message me on fb if you you'd like to hear more about my experience.
Kim Pugno: Talked about sensitive info with my 14 year old with no sensitivity.
