Melissa Englund: If I had written this review at the time of my surgery, it would have been a fine review. I DO NOT like to disparage businesses in reviews.However, sometimes I believe it's appropriate to caution others to help them to avoid issues I have experienced.To say I have found the billing department at this location difficult to work with would be an understatement. The first bill I ever received was well over a year after the date of my surgery. It was not itemized. It simply stated past due balance of a large round dollar amount and indicated that if I didn't pay immediately I would be sent to collections. It came in a hand written envelope and looked like a scam.In trying to work out details and get information over the phone, I was yelled at and accused of being aggressive because I didn't just roll over and agree to pay. I will not get into the whole saga, but several weeks later, I am still trying to get to the bottom of the mystery of what I may actually be obligated to pay. My insurance is telling me I owe them nothing.If your surgeon is planning to do your surgery here, I would recommend asking if they would do it at another location instead.

Jacob Wieck: Overpaid just over $1,000 Billing just keeps sending me to voice-mail, been waiting for a call back for 3 days. No hesitation to bill me for everything though which all got paid. Overall a very unprofessional establishment in this regard.

Kerensa Steffens: Nurses ROCK! The admin staff and billing are HORRIBLE. No one would call me back. Finally got a voicemail leaving me a dollar amount I would owe. I pay it and a month later I get another bill at almost $500.. OOPS sorry that was an estimate sorry we didn't tell you. So they do not know how to estimate their own work! If I did that in my line of work I wouldn't have a job. Uncalled for! I will never use that facility again. I ended up with $770 in "extra" fees that they wont take ownership of and just past the buck to everyone else..

Grandville Education Foundation GEF: I have had many surgery's but this was the easiest. I could park close to the door, I didn't get lost checking in, everyone was very sweet and professional. They explained my estimated amount due at time of service and why I had an amount due. Check in was smooth they got me ready for surgery and gave me extra warm blanket because I was cold. After surgery the nurses were very nice and I even received a phone call the next day to check on me. I would totally go back to Grand Valley Surgical Center again vs any other place in town!

J Stoddard: Requesting to me that I pay my deductible up front. I have already paid this to my surgeon to schedule the surgery. I said I would show them the receipt. They don't care - will not allow my surgery unless I pay them.

Anna Scholten: We were happy with the medical services and care provided, but NOT happy with the billing. One of their policies is that you pre-pay for any services. At the time of my daughter's surgery, we were not yet at our deductible - so we had to pay the full amount on the day of her surgery. By the time they sent the paperwork to our insurance - we had hit our deductible, so we ended up overpaying by quite a bit (over $1,000). They NEVER contacted me about this overpayment. It took 3 phone calls from me, and demanding to speak to a manager, for a check to be put in the mail. The first two times I called they quickly said "Oh Yes, I see you overpaid, we will take care of that" - and weeks went by without seeing any refund. If I would not have been watching our insurance situation and called GVSC - I am not sure we would have ever gotten a refund.

Tim O'Malley: We had my wife's surgery postponed because the ENT failed to order supplies. Since that was the last mistake by his office we could endure we cancelled. We r still waiting for GVSC to refund the $375 dollars we paid them. Everytime we call they say it's going out next week. If it doesn't come soon we're going to drop in and insist.

juan gonzales: My 3 year old son needed tubes put in his ears and to have his adenoids removed. We were quoted roughly $240 for the procedures, which my wife paid at the time of service, and are now being asked to pay $2000. They do not check with your insurance company to see what the actual cost is going to amount to. When my wife called they admitted that they only go by co-insurance and do not check what the cost will be in the end. Very unprofessional and lacking in a standard customer service function of letting the cost of service be known. I would not recommend this center to anyone who needs any related services performed.

Paul Wiersma: I had a great experience here the place is clean and neat the staff and nurses were awesome everybody was pleasant and truly concerned about my comfort. I highly recommend this facility

Joan Slonka: Nursing staff is okay, but I wouldn’t say great. However business office/receptionists are AWFUL. I had two procedures done there. One was about $23,000, and I am self paying. Surgery was on a Monday and they literally called me the Friday before and told me I had to bring a check for the full amount with me. Obviously, that didn’t happen, but I had full intentions of paying every dime I old them. I however did expect some sort of a self-pay discount which is customary in the medical industry. Insurance companies even get a discount. I had a non profit who was helping me with my bills, and who spoke with them on my behalf, regarding payment, and understood they would allow an approximate $6000 discount. So the balance was paid in full. A few months later I had to return for a minor follow up procedure that would cost about 2000. When I arrived, they refused to see me until the balance was paid. I had to put it on my credit card in order to have a much needed procedure done that would affect range of motion on my dominant arm for the rest of my life. Apparently they had not authorized that original discount, it was apparently a complete misunderstanding and they required the full amount.I would never ever go there again and highly recommend no one else use them either. They are cruel and heartless, and all about money. Mind you, I have an 800+ credit score, so I am not someone who doesn’t pay my bills.

Karen Middendorp: So before you allow yourself to schedule here, be aware when you arrive the front desk will alert you that you must pay a deductible that they think you might owe! We all have choices in our health care and do not have to be treated in the fashion we were here. Also they want a card to agree to payments that they determine appropriate. We received no phone call to alert he was not notified. No voicemail no call. He was scheduled 6-8 weeks out we would have been prepared. Never again.

Hope Stephens: If you are having a surgery beware. My son had two surgeries there one in December and one in January they requested payment upfront for his deductible ($1000) and the balance left from the estimate from insurance ($900ish) for each shoulder so we paid $3800 total . We thought this was strange but they made us feel we had no choice or no surgery. Never had to pay for services upfront and normally would just waited to see what insurance was going to pay before we paid our bill. Which everyone should wait since they don't know until they get in the surgery of how things are going to go. So when they do these estimates it could be higher or lower as in our case. So after insurance all went through turns out we over paid. A month after the insurance payment to the surgical center was received we still do not have the overpayment. Called and talked to someone there and they don't have a date of when we will receive that credit back which is close to $1200.00 might be more. That is a lot of money. I asked if they knew when the payment would be sent and the lady on the phone said the next check run hopefully. I asked when would that be and she didn't have an answer. So I asked is it next month or the month after when and she said she didn't know. They are so quick to take your money but take forever to get you any back. I just do not want anyone else to go through the same thing that I did. I normally do not write reviews but this has to be said.

Eric Carmey: The physical plant is nice, hard to find as no sign near street entrance. NEVER checked my temperature , while I was awake anyway, despite posted protocol and required on many clinical levels. Billing manager contacted me 6 days prior and demanded copay on day of surgery or “ stay home!” She would not listen my situation which ultimately guaranteed 100% payment. Now the Billing supervisor will not return my calls as the 100% is being paid and they need to reimburse me $590. that they demanded or I could not have my severe pains relieved! I also had to sign a contract for the other $590 balance because they are so nice to spread it out over 3 auto debits to help poor suffering people having a hard time, not really HELPING the ill, but was told “ this is a business!! No humanity!! I already had to wait weeks for this procedure only to potentially have it cancelled 6 day prior because THEY could have but WOULDN’T wait one week for 100% payment. So, now that they’re getting thousands, I’m left wondering if I’ll ever get my $590 reimbursed before April 1 so I can pay my rent, would hate to get evicted one month post op!!!! Thanks a lot Grand Valley Surgical Center for making an already stressful situation even more stressful. I guess there is no place for humanity in a surgical center BUSINESS! Ironic it seems.

Emily Salzwedel: Had a surgery on nose today. I had my surgery but it got delayed as there were lots of other patients. My surgeon told me about it and it made me feel at ease. The nurses and staff made me feel at ease and relaxed as i have anxiety so they did a great job of making sure I was comfortable and relaxed. If i ever need to have any other surgeries, then i will go there.

Hollywood Garbarino: I had a great experience there yesterday with my hand surgery, all the nurses were amazing and Dr. Lovell and his pa where very nice to me and they fixed my hand ... 5 stars

LJ: The medical staff did a great job, but after my surgery they increased my medical bill without any proper explanation. I took the time to call ahead and price out the procedure and soon after I was contacted by them to make a pre-payment. During the pre-payment the costs were not adding up in relation to what my responsibility should have been after insurance based off the information they provided me. The billing staff were not able to figure out the reason and corrected the amount which I paid prior to my surgery.Soon after my surgery was completed, I received an invoice for the original amount and called them for an explanation of why the cost changed. The only answer they provided was that it was based off of the procedures completed. I contact my surgeon and no additional procedures were completed and should have been the same codes used during the estimate and what was actually billed to insurance.After re-contacting their billing department, I was told that I would have to contact my insurance company since the insurance company decided on what is the main procedure code during their evaluation of coverage. After contacting my insurance carrier, I found out that the medical facility is actually the responsible party on electing the main procedure code.Not only was I lied to by the billing staff, but I was also able to figure out why my bill was changed. They had initially determined my cost off a different procedure code and when I contacted them the first time they could not figure this out, so they changed the charge. Later on they changed the procedure code and billed me for the difference because this procedure code had a larger payout.Words of wisdom* always request an explanation for what your pre-payment is based off of prior to any payments. I was able to determine what they had done because I keep detailed notes regarding any billing.When they changed the billing either due to their mistake or unethical billing this became an unethical business practice and to add to this reputation, they refused to provide any documents to explain the change and informed me to write a letter to the board of directors. This is not how I would treat a customer/patient and I would like others to be aware of their actions.

Tate Johanek: The staff are all very friendly, welcoming, and trans-positive! I've never had an experience in a medical care setting where I've not been deadnamed or misgendered until receiving my septoplasty here. Even when the staff thought I was out of earshot, they still continued to refer to me with he/him pronouns. I was so happy I almost cried. I can't recommend this place enough

CAM SABATINO: Had an excellent surgery, and was treated incredibly well by ALL staff. From arrival to departure, I knew what was happening, and had kind and caring staff the whole way. There is a super kind nurse, (Britney I think?) who helped me feel much less nervous about my surgery. I really appreciated the medical care I received, and the attention the staff paid to me as a person.

Jv Jv: Received great care and they were really good with time for being my first surgery the entire process was uncomplicated and expedient.Would certainly be confidant returning for future procedures and I recommended everyone that needs procedures done, I usually don't leave reviews but I had too for the excellent job the whole staff provided thank you again Grand rapids surgical suite.

Dan Johnson: Received great care and they were very timely. Only thing I didn't care for was the fact that I had to pre-pay a sizable amount that will then be refunded to me once my insurance pays. Seems unnecessary.Would definitely go back though.

Tessa: My mother had a hip replacement surgery performed here. The entire staff was very pleasant and friendly. They kept us informed during the procedure. When they finished, the surgeon came out and updated us, we even recieved a team photo. Would recommend over hospital setting. Nice and clean facility.

D Ivy: My husband had surgery last year, he was sent a invoice showing his balance due. It was paid in full, then we get another invoice saying he still had a balance. I called asked the person why this total amount due was different than what was sent to him, she had no explanation, they need to make sure they are sending out the correct information and not misleading people.Bad customer service

Mary Alice Homkes: Don't ever try and get your account settled with GR Ophthalmology or Surgical Care Center. Their billing department will screw your accounts up so bad and when they don't take care of things to straighten their mistakes out after several client phone calls, they will lie and send your account to a collection agency, which will then hit your credit report and bomb your FICO score. After being a client for three years and having a cornea transplant and two cataract surgeries, I am switching to another company. These people don't care what happens to their clients.

Carey Wagen: I had my knee replaced by Dr Theut (OAM) on May 9th at MidTowne. MidTowne surgery center is one of the most efficient surgical businesses I’ve been to. Lots of communication and the staff was knowledgeable and professional from arrival to departure. Would definitely recommend this center over a hospital for outpatient surgical procedures.

micki rogers: Hip Replacement surgery went great. My recovery experience has been speedy with little pain. All of my pre surgery pain is also gone. Dr. Malvitz an his surgical team took excellent care of me.

Alison A: My son had a consult for a bucket handle meniscus tear with Dr.Hedlund’s PA Corey. He was extremely personable and very informative. Our experience was great and we truly appreciate how quickly they were able to coordinate getting him on the surgery schedule. The scheduling coordinator was also extremely friendly and helpful with the next steps and what to expect moving forward. Yesterday was the day of surgery with Dr.Hedlund and I was very impressed with the entire experience. We were brought back to pre-op almost immediately after we checked in and the surgery went great. Dr.Hedlund was very kind, explained everything in detail and shared photos from the procedure, he did an amazing job. I’m extremely thankful and appreciative for all of the staff Dr.Hedlund, Corey, Dr.Ahmad (anesthesia), the nurses, surgical techs, etc. etc. Thank you all for taking such great care of my son. Now onto the road to recovery! :)

The anesthesiologist team was outstanding. They explained everything to me and put my mind at ease. Dr. John G. Anderson is the best foot/ankle surgeon there is and to him I am grateful beyond words.To anyone interested in making this your choice for surgery, I recommend OAM Surgery Center without hesitation.

Taylor Scheidel: I just had surgery there this past Friday.( Jan 10th) My laparoscopy went well. My doctor(Getz, her assistant, the anesthesiologist( Dr.Ahmed) were great! However , Some negligence occurred. I was told I was going to be sent home with a printed copy for post op medication. I was very groggy from the anesthesia and they gave a folder with papers in regards to my surgery. I thought my script was in there too. I got home and take a nap and I woke up in some pain. I went to go through my folder for the script and it’s not there! One of the nurses practically pushed me out the door as well so they forgot to put in my folder! They had one job! I’m getting a lawyer and suing for negligence. It’s now the weekend and I can’t get hold of my primary doc, Dr. Getz or a surgical center cuz conveniently, it’s closed! Make sure your patients have their needs met BEFORE they leave your office. I’ve been writhing in pain all weekend because of this place. I better be repaid for this negligence!Update: Ended up in the ER January 11 due to not having pain meds that were SUPPOSED to be given to me by this office .My pupils were uneven sized, my blood pressure and heart rate went up 50 points. Was close to a stroke... don’t ever use this place for surgery unless you have a death wish !

Taylor Knight: Don't bother going to this place. They are far more concerned about themselves than helping anyone.And they are cowards. My doctor had been out of his office in Caledonia for a week and I needed just a couple of pain relievers for arthritis to tie me over until he came back. They REFUSED. They are only practicing and working there to FEEL IMPORTANT. They are quite USELESS. I was treated like I was a child and "momma" wasn't going to let me have what I needed or wanted.I am truly sick of doctors thinking and acting like they are GOD. The bozos here don't bother treating or truly listening to the patient. They just want to give you excuses for their INCOMPETENCE. They are a waste of your time. That is probably why there is hardly ever anyone there waiting for treatment... If I could give them NEGATIVE marks, I would have. They STINK.

From the reception at registration to Julie who was the nurse that admitted us (she was phenomenal and belongs doing what she does😊) to the anesthesiologist Dr. Rosenthal and surgeon Dr. Kowalczyk and various other nurses (forgive for not remembering names (a little loopy by that point!); our care was excellent. So thankful and didn’t want it to go unnoticed.

Parkour Havok: My mom just had a hip replacement.....I can't express in words how much she means to me.The surgery went Great! Thanks to the wonderful staff and God shedding his light on them and the surgery, it was perfectly!She's up and walking only hours after!Also special thanks to Julie, she was the best😊😊😊Ps.... Kate Vinton: I've had numerous surgical procedures in my life. Well over twenty-five. I am a 35 years old female and have been to several hospitals in Michigan in my lifetime. To date- Lake Drive Surgical Center has had the MOST AMAZING STAFF EVER!! Thank you ALL for taking such good care of me. Your team of medical experts makes all my worries and fears completely disapear within minutes of arriving and that's very important to my overall health and well being. Thank you again Lake Drive 2nd floor surgical staff, and thank you to the best surgeon Dr. Raisa Pallati (female urolgical and pelvic reconstructive surgeon) for never giving up on me.

Katie Lomas: Not impressed at all with the customer service. When I asked questions and wanted to know what was going on they were very annoyed with me. Most of (there was one girl who was polite even though I was upset) didn't seem like they cared at all about us and our concerns. I asked to talk to the surgeon before the procedure and he seemed very upset by that and didn't want to explain anything to me. If this wasn't an emergency we definitely would have gone some place else and will not be returning. Any form of surgery is stressful and and medical establishment should be sensitive of that.

James Smith: It's clean. There is very little seating for people waiting for a patient. Very few place for people to set together. Which I get with COVID but I was there with family. No comfortable seating. Spectrum and Grand Valley surgical centers are more comfortable and have more to offer.

Stephen Strobel: Staff was professional, caring and understanding. They answered my questions at some early phone calls, when they called with with the scheduled surgery time when I visited for my surgery.I recommend them for out-patient surgery.

Phyllis Walton: I recently had bunion removal surgery here. The staff were all amazing. When I arrived I was somewhat nervous and it was a very calm nurse that checked me in and the entire environment is really calming. I think they do an amazing job and I would highly recommend them.

Annah Chouinard: My daughter has been there 3 times for Surgery. They are professional first but kind and thoughtful when it matters.
