And this last rental, the 26' truck's lift gate blew its hydraulics 60 miles from home. After a phone call, a service truck appeared in short order and we were on our way in less than 2 hours. They were fair in compensation, too. I don't normally go out of my way to submit a Google review, but this company deserves it.

I asked if they have a waiting area and was told no. I’m handicapped and can’t stand for long periods of time. They told me it would be at least 2 hours to finish the install. No chair was offered. They don’t care about people with disabilities because even employees park illegally in the handicap parking space. This was a terrible experience. Never again. I was not treated very well at this location. The sign posted on the entrance says how well they accommodate people with disabilities. Nope!

No matter when I call, I am immediately put on hold for extensive lengths of time. There is no indication of there being upper level storage units WITH NO ELEVATOR! I am now handicapped and am stuck paying for this storage unit until I can find people to help me empty it, cuz I literally cannot access it. Even juyst the doors to access any part of the building aren't set up to allow access with a wheelchair. Seriously. Go to ANY other location

Bryce Singhurst: Terrible layout from parking your vehicle to leaving with a rental. This adds a lot of stress to the process. Small lakes of water accumulate with just a slight bit of rain. Location has some of the worst trucks I've seen from U-Haul. Don't give them a penny extra when refueling! A problem at the gas pump caused me to top off my rental (over $100) when it was due back at 1/4 tank. Location staff is amazing but told me they don't refund over fueling. I have been sitting for over an hour trying to resolve this with customer support via phone and chat. They continuously disconnect me without any assistance.

The lack of communication over the phone as to why they were not able to install the hitch was frustrating to say the least. Then I went back into the store to get some clarification and the receptionist had a terrible attitude and didn’t want to go the extra mile to call the mechanic to the desk as she had NO idea and couldn’t give me clear information. Even after I told her we drove 50 minutes from home to come to that specific U-haul she still blew me off. Very disappointed in the lack of humanity at this location.

MM H: Great, professional staff!!So last month I rented a truck at a different location (truck-share type place down the street) and the truck needed a lot of attention. I saw this location and stopped in to see if they could help me. Three women came out and helped me get what I needed. They filled the truck with much needed oil, swept out the broken glass and debris left by others, cleaned the cab and kept apologizing for OTHER people's lack of responsibility. Accolades are due the manager KaZya and her team. Thank you and I will recommend this place to others!
Kevin: Tried 2 times to get propane refills. The first time the store was busy so I understood. The second time I waited for 15 minutes with no help, went inside and the store was empty. I watched 2 employees enter the store while I was waiting for help, I had to holler into the back for someone to come out. When they did, they were perturbed and asked what I wanted. I asked if they were filling propane today and the employee responded they were and for me.to go around back, ring the bell again and wait for someone and they would help me when they can. I asked how long and was told 15-20 minuets. It is important to note, the employee was obviously irritated I wanted help and was very short with me.There were multiple employees on site, no customers in the store and they couldn't help me for 20 minutes, ridiculous. I will never return to this location again.
Eugene Manin: I've been here on two occasions, once for a truck rental and once for propane. For rentals, check online for availability ahead of time before coming in. For propane, you've gotta go between 12pm-6pm. Very nice people provided efficient service both times.
Rick Rolf: I had an appointment on 6/11/21 at 2:30PM at U-Haul on 28th St SE, east of Centerpointe Mall, for a bike rack hitch to be installed. They said it would take 30 minutes. They didn’t pull our vehicle in until 5:30PM, 3 hours later. Then the U-Haul installer told me he couldn’t do the installation because it was too rusty underneath. Today, 6/14/21, I took our vehicle to JW Hitch in Jenison. The business owner looked underneath our vehicle said it looked in good shape. We scheduled an installation date for 2 1/2 weeks out, because he’s so busy. Lesson learned: Read the reviews BEFORE you go there. U-Hauls reviews aren’t very good for a reason. JW Hitch in Jenison has very good reviews.

Beverly Mapes: Propane fill up is unreliable. They do not have set hours and shut it down for the night when its convenient for them. Or when they don't have certified people to do it. You cannot reach them directly to call before coming. Phone rings to their central call center only. Very frustrating the number of times I've driven here to get propane filled into my rv and leave with no propane. Will be looking someplace else.

Jill Zoet: I am so disgusted with this company!! My family reserved a truck one month early and we showed up yesterday only to find that they [nonchalantly] didn't have one there for us. They did however, give us one size bigger for the same price so we weren't too upset with that, other then the fact it made it a lot more difficult to drive to the place we were moving our items (downtown Madison, WI). Nonetheless, we were fine with it. Upon receiving the larger truck it was noted that their were two service lights on which were brought to the attention to the staff in which their response was "It'll be fine, we'll note it." So today, while sitting in standstill traffic in Chicago our truck dies on us. We manage to make it to a gas station in which we get a Budget service person there to confirm that the people who rented it before us put the wrong fuel in it. So we had to then wait for a new truck to get there, unload our belongings and be back on our way. We at this point would expect some sort of compensation or discounted rate for this experience. But we were followed up by NOT ONLY do we now have to wait until tomorrow for you to get a new truck to us, but you will refuse to give us the money back for the truck OR pay for lodging overnight. So here we are staying in the back of a broke down truck at a gas station in downtown Chicago! This complaint will be lodged with the BBB. I cannot believe the level of horrendous service-with absolutely no accountability!

Jason Emery: Crystal pro ided me with amazing service. Due to a customer not returning the key for the pickup truck, I was not able to get my original scheduled time. She upgraded me to the next size up all while communicating this fully. Her customer service and care was top notch.
tony poynter: They installed a hitch on my SUV. I called and they installed it the next day. No issues.
Alfonso Calderon: O stars. A lady that works there has no idea what she is doing. Very bad service and only a couple people know how to do their job, so you have to call in advance to see if they are working but good luck with them answering the phone. Place is a joke.
Tim Sproat: I've been renting a truck every week for the past 3 months. My experience dealing with the different U-Haul sites around Grand Rapids I found the one on Plainfield to provide the best service with the friendliest people. That is until this last time I rented. I have never had to deal with Crystal (the owner). I have seen her working every time before this and she has always had a bad attitude. I did not realize until this last time that she was the owner. I always assumed she was just an employee who obviously hates her job. Apparently there was an issue with a rental prior to my reservation. The previous customer picked up their truck later than their reservation was for but still used it for the full 24hrs from the time they picked the truck up but was not charged for the extra time. Crystal asked if I would be able to bring my rental back by 830, 2 hours before it was due based on my reservation. I told her I would not be able to make 830. She then said she would have to put me in the next size up. A bigger truck is going to cost me more in gas. So I asked about the $50 reservation guarantee and Crystals attitude changed. She was clearly very upset with her employees, slamming thing around on the counter and reprimanding the employee, I assume was responsible for the issue, right in front of me. It was at this time I looked at her name tag and saw the title "owner" below her name. I too am a business owner and I realize employees make mistakes from time to time and need to be made aware of their mistakes in order to prevent it from happening again. However employees are people too and deserve to be treated as such. What I witnessed was extremely unprofessional and because of that I will be taking my business to another location. Just as my production has increased and I will be requiring a truck twice a week instead of the once a week I have been using.
Anthony Himebaugh: Had a hitch installed on my vehicle a few months ago. I am very disappointed at the work performed. My rear bumper diffuser was bent and rolled to make the hitch fit. The Tech tried to tell me that my car had been in a previous accident and that is why it looked the way it does. 2 days after the install, service engine light comes on. After scanning the code, discovered that the Tech busted the evap canister pressure sensor off, and managed to crack the canister housing that is Conveniently located next to the passenger side hitch install location. Not a cheap fix... Also found the +12v wire (for the trailer plug) ran under the car to my battery, was melted to my exhaust that it was wrapped around several times. Good thing his wiring kit had a fuse in it to prevent further damage to my vehicle. If you need a hitch installed, please save yourself the headache and money... Go elsewhere

Kolinn Morgan: Had a hitch and trailer light wire harness installed. 80% plastic inserts that hold the removable panels were busted out and now all they do is rattle going down the road. Also, the tech who installed the harness cut through plastic instead of running the harness out of place it is designed for. Two stars for the nice service desk person.

Julie Mulder: I made an online appointment to get a trailer hitch put on my vehicle. The team working that day was efficient and friendly. They showed me an area to wait for my vehicle and let me know they would update me when it was done, estimated to be done in about an hour. Less than a 1/2 hour later I had the warranty in my hand and was out the door!
Dan H: Call me corporate Uhaul: reservation 27156367, you have my number. I ordered a hitch and arrived on the scheduled date of install at this location. No hitch they told me, and I'd have to come back and they'd call me when it came in. Height of Covid, no waiting allowed, far from my home, and I already drove there with two vehicles one time at an appointment they set, so I didn't reschedule right away when they called a week later. Now they report they installed the hitch three months after that. (I was waiting until winter was done by that point) Hmmm whose vehicle was that on? It certainly wasn't mine. The receipt they sent me "proving they installed it" has amounts changed from my online paid-in-full invoice, adding a $0.76 cash payment on the "day of install". Shady stuff. There is a place for a customer signature too = blank. I’ll stay away from this location, and maybe Uhaul in general. Buyer beware, a lot. Crystal the manager is the person I dealt with. Edit 9/27/21, a month later: After posting this review, some chats with UHaul corporate, and 3 more calls to this location in the last month, they finally refunded me - turns out they have a $50 guarantee on honoring their appointments too - they of course didn't bring that up initially. In the end, they made it right, but I'll not be dealing with UHaul in the future. Newcomer Plow and Hitch in Holland did a fantastic job getting my hitch needs taken care of.

Brad Hekman: Made a hitch installation appointment weeks in advance. Appointment was cancelled day-of because they didn't have the parts. In the days that follow, after hours navigating call trees and nationwide customer support, it's revealed that the parts won't be coming anytime soon. But they're happy to help me last minute reschedule my 2500 mile move..... -_-It's a really bad experience to book installations when the parts are clearly on long-term backorder. I feel lied to and utterly screwed over. Guess I'll just demand my refund and badmouth U-Haul forevermore. :'(

The last time I went into the store was helped by someone who was more interested in his food than helping me. I will never do business with uhaul again and will let everyone I know to never do business with them as well.
Scott Baker: While visiting GRR from out of town, we were rear-ended which destroyed our UHaul hitch. We needed another hitch to be able to tow a trailer of furniture back home, and while this location didn't have the part in stock, Brandon spent time and effort tracking one down at a UHaul in Holland so we could pick it up there. Very helpful!

Skipp Gee: I rent more than you. I know what a good, bad, and really bad uhaul store is like. This store is really good. Mostly because the managers are smart and capable. Courtney cares about doing a good job so the other staff do too. Same was true with the last manager who transferred not fired or quit.Anyone who says blah blah on the phone with them, blah blah complain. You aren't talking to the staff on location when you call usually; you're talking with call center staff. Also, if you aren't difficult with them 9/10 times they won't be difficult with you. If you had a bad experience previously, give this location another shot. You'll likely find significant improvement. I haven't met even 1 person who works here that I would fire if I were in charge, that's saying alot now a days.
RENE L.: U-Haul has become shady in my opinion. I called to inquire about a local pickup or van as my car is down. I've seen all their trucks with this now just 19.95 per day. That's only if you plan to sleep in the cab on their lot. Because it 70 cent's a mile on weekdays and 80 on weekends. If you are moving stuff across town you could end up paying upwards of 100$. They need to add that to the side of the truck's. It used to be a flat rate and you had to return it full of gas like you received it.

Nicole Bond: I rented a trailer from this location in February of 2022. Brandi, the new general manager, and Andrew helped me hook up my trailer and showed me exactly what they were doing (I had never hooked up a trailer before). I was 15 minutes late to my pick up appointment but they were both extremely cheery and helpful, and showed me exactly what I needed to buy without trying to rip me off (I had to buy a ball mount and wanted a new lock). I had a very quick and pleasant experience and would recommend this location.

Don't be a Karen it'll get you further. they are too underpaid to listen to you yell about the milage being off by two numbers, the girl in there with colored works hard so show some love when you go in there
Kyralissa Chaney: Disappointed!!! Made my husband wait 3 hours after telling him it would be done. There was no acknowledgment of wrongdoing on their part. It's astonishing. Save yourself some time and go somewhere else.
Justin Broschk: Only has 1 person working on a saturday with a packed lobby.
Krystal Farquharson: I had one of the best customer experiences at the Alpine UHaul location yesterday. I had to move across town and didn't reserve a truck in advance and I also had two propane tanks to fill. Issac P. was super pleasant and accommodating to myself and the other customers. He was able to find me a truck for the day and we had great conversation while he set up my reservation. Also his colleague Avah (?) I think was her name, so sorry if I misspelled, was very charming and helpful. They both made my moving experience a little better.
Stephanie Hatfield: I rented 4 u boxes. Just setting up delivery was a nightmare. Well, I get an email about monthly rent and late fees and I wasnt even aware I had monthly rent payments. I called they said don't worry about them they will be taken care of in your final bill. Here we are 3 weeks later, I've continued to be billed late charges and no one seems to want to help. Filed a claim and was denied. Do not use them! They will send you around in circles. Oh, and charge incorrect cards multiple times after trying to change to the correct car. Worst experience I have ever had!
Jon Skar: Whoever Ryan is who works there hung up the phone on me because he forgot to call me back....I called at 9 am this am...RYAN was supposed to call me...I called at 2 he tried to tell he couldnt help and did not bother to call and let me know....Always had good luck with U-Haul until this clown
Emily Zeiler: We made an appointment to pick up a trailer after we couldn’t fit everything into the Penske truck we rented (Penske always has better prices.) Nothing on their website/appointment-making page indicates that you can’t attach a Uhaul trailer to a Penske truck. So the morning we were leaving town, we went to pick it up only to be rudely told that they wouldn’t allow us to rent the trailer if pulled by a competitor’s truck. They made no effort to give us other options. When I asked about getting a hitch installed on my car, he sarcastically said “That’s done by *appointment* and we would have to have the parts.” Didn’t even attempt to look if they had an appointment open or the parts in stock. We had to leave stuff behind and make a second 10hr round trip to retrieve it. We won’t be using Uhaul again.
Erik Stapleton: Horrible management and customer service. Over charged me saying I put scratches on the vehicle that I didn't. They will try and scam you if not careful.
