Goldfish Swim School - Okemos: what do users think?
Asma Zarin: Best for beginners
D Ghastin: We were very impressed with the whole process for children. Separate changing areas for kids is a plus in my book since we have a boy and a girl. Looking forward to their swim classes.
Amanda Poyner: My 3 year old had a fear of large water (baths are fine) and getting her face wet. They were and still are amazing with her. I definitely recommend them. The facility is always clean and the staff are amazing with kids of all ages.
Nancy Spitzley: Very fun and a necessary skill to learn.
Bjoern Hamberger: Sunday morning 10am. It is pretty dreadful. But the kid, once ready, enjoys the swimming. They could have more changing rooms. There are commonly waiting lines. Otherwise works. Pet shop and ALDI are around the corner,.Update: 11:30 now. Commencing to be dreadful. I still think that 25 minute lessons are only at most a minuscule advancement. Can't wait for lake time. Just checked out the university club. Maybe a working alternative?
Tait Cha: Very warm pool and lots of class times, though you do pay more for the comfort and convenience
Rhonda Vance: This is the first thing our son Atticus has agreed to do lesson wise & socially. We are so impressed with how timely and engaged the coaches are. This specific coach (pictured) is absolutely wonderful.
Patrick Murphy: Before staring Goldfish, my three kiddos were reluctant to put their heads in the water. Now, just months later, being in (and under) the water at Goldfish is one of their favorite parts of the week! Thank you to the incredible and caring coaches at Goldfish!
Dirty Critter: My kids love goldfish swim school. We go every Wednesday.
Thomas Norton: Our grandson loves it!
Krishna K: Goldfish Okemos is awesome! We started when he was 2 years old, his comfort and confidence in the water has gone up tenfold. we love seeing his progress every week. The team are great, patient instructors and courteous desk staff who understand no-shows and help with mark-ups.
Samantha Bankhead: After finding an instructor my child liked he made a huge strides in swimming!
Makeupbydonaaa: Great team , doing Amazing Job!Thank you GoldFish 🐠
Becca Rostar: The teachers are wonderful!! They are all so patient, always showing enthusiasm and excitement with every student hour after hour. My child LOVES to go to class and even through she is only 3 is independently swimming on her own. Wonderful for me to see.
Cheryl Lynn: Goldfish Okemos is the best! My 5 year old daughter went from being timid and not confident when near water, to begging to swim anywhere she could! In a few short months she went from doggy paddling to swimming above and under water, jumping in and treading water like a pro! We will keep her here for years to come!Thank you Goldfish Okemos!
Erin Guess: We hosted a 3rd birthday party for my son at Goldfish Swim School. Everything was absolutely amazing. They helped us unload our car, greeted our guests at the door, took presents and put them away, and so much more. The lifeguards were very diligent about keep the kids safe and the staff checked in numerous times throughout. I cannot wait to have another event there. All of the attendees were raving. My only feedback is that I wish they had an option to tip when you pay the balance off by card. Definitely recommend hosting events at Goldfish Swim School.
Jessica Stemen: I have loved taking my kids to goldfish. They are attentive and caring. I so appreciate them being able to handle a crying kid. I know it’s hard to maintain a positive attitude but they do it. Thank you!!
Lori Limmer: Wonderful place to take your any age child. The pool area is kind of warm, but when you get into the pool it feels great. I would HIGHLY recommend this place!
ur mom: i went to goldfish and thought it was good and all you know some stuff could be fixed but it worked. And then my sister is on swim force and now they are taking $200 dollars of my moms card without telling her and hard worked money is going down the drain without being told.
Karen Corley: Excellent swim school
Margaret Weisenberg: I love taking my daughter to lessons here. All the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Parkwood YMCA: what do users think?
Emi Grace: I’m happy to have a place to work out while my son plays. But this place needs cleaned! Dust and dead flies, broken hand soap dispensers are replaced with huge bottles of duct taped hand soap. Missing wall paint, rusted equipment… what’s going on here? The last straw was seeing the blood on a sink from a woman who had a nose bleed on Thursday… today is monday
Daniel Crisp: I like the staff, the clientele is respectful, and the pool is great. Seemingly great for kids too. But I miss the newer equipment and attention to room details they had at the--now closed--downtown YMCA. The strength training room itself, and much of the equipment in it, seems like it's an afterthought at this particular Y. This one could be great if given the attention the downtown Y received.
CC: The preschool here is amazing. It is run like a school, not a daycare. The teachers are great and care a lot about the kids. They focus on getting the kids outside as much as the weather allows them to. My child has grown so much at the preschool and also at swimming lessons. The prices are also very affordable for both preschool and swimming lessons. I highly recommend the programs here!
Carrie Coleen Moffett: I am a member since 2014 I love to swim in the pool and workout on the treadmill peace out
Kate: As much as I want to love this place, it has so many issues- Weight room is horrible. Small, not enough mirrors. Super crowded, and weights are all mismatched.- The weight room is in the basement, and for some reason is always blazing hot. No matter the season. Not only that but you don’t get service there because their wife doesn’t work down there so you can’t even listen to music.- The facility is FILTHY. I can’t tell you how many times I personally cleaned up dust balls and globs of hair all over the floor. Even with Covid, this facility is not being cleaned, especially not the weight room. You’d think with a majority of their members being elderly they’d take cleaning seriously during a pandemic.- There are some creepy members. I got followed throughout the entire gym.Recommendations:1. Put a WiFi extender in the basement so people can have WiFi in the basement.2. CLEAN the facility so I don’t have to
Herbert Grunau: The staff here is wonderful. They're caring and polite and of course very knowledgeable. The problem we had is the fact that the building in and around the pool is so freezing cold it's intolerable in the winter. I mean I understand saving a penny on heat but that's ridiculous....it's too cold in the pool room. The locker rooms are relatively unclean. My wife needed more exercise classes and they don't offer much In the way of water exercise classes.
Bk Hix: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality
Vicki Morrone: Sadly the Y never emailed its members of their plans or it seems in this case lack of plans as they closed down during COVID-19 . They continued to deduct payments for membership with no benefits and no explanation. I know that at least some of their staff were furloughed maybe all? and so there were no virtual stretching classes or yoga or any offerings to their paying members. Couldn’t the Y have applied to the federal program PPP for their staffs salaries and they offered virtual classes? I’m very disappointed in our Y given what the foundation is suppose to represent.
Tairiku Cousins: I been going here for years. Although may not be the best facilitated YMCA when it comes to equipment or amenities. It is the best YMCA to meet people and know them. Most members are friendly regardless of who you are.
Reba dean: People at desk are very nice.
Lura Coleman: I have used the Parkwood Y for many years. Lately i have been concerned about routine maintenance. Broken locker doors are not repaired for months. A soap dispenser has to be replaced. It’s been months and is supposedly ordered. Lightbulbs burn out and are not replaced. Is the building just going to be allowed to deteriorate?
Clayton Puranen: Closes at 5 pm on Sunday (not 6 as posted)
Gabe Toman: Decent weight room tons of dumbells, machines. One power rack and a few Smith machines
Leslie Feeny: Honest review of Parkwood YMCA: My husband and I became members in March of 2019 and just recently canceled our membership in June of 2019. Overall we had a good experience here. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. I liked how they offer many different exercise classes. We tried both yoga and spin classes for a month and really enjoyed them. Our instructors were fantastic. My two suggestions for improvement would be more attention to cleanliness of the locker rooms/showers and more ventilation in the weight room in particular. I know this a busy gym, and its not going to smell like roses, but there were several times the weight room and surrounding halls smelled so terrible, we had to leave. (Like sewage back-up terrible.) I also understand that the locker room gets a lot of foot traffic, but the floors and lockers were always littered with gobs of hair and debris. Ultimately, we left because of the cost. $80 a month is a lot of money for us right now, and we also had to pay extra fees for the classes, which were not included with the membership. Considering we only used the cardio and weight room and no other services, it was not worth the cost for us. We decided we could still get a quality workout at home for free and canceled our membership.
D Mitchem: Small area to try to swim, mostly had laps used by older folks. Then 20 people trying to share a very small side of the pool. We called ahead & they said we could pay $20. for a family day pass. We got there and the attendant said they were closing at noon~! (Very was misleading) Not even the worst part, I went ahead & paid thinking we had 90 mins. Oh no the pool closes early, we only had 60 mins & you are forced to shower 1st before going in, so more like 45 mins by the time you got out of the nightmare dressing rooms. They were filled with naked people everywhere. The showers were wide open no curtains or stalls. People naked standing in the public area dressing or undressing. My grandchildren were horrified. We showered with suits on, but tried to get out of there as fast as possible the showers were one after another of naked people. And you have to pass them again after you have your swimsuit on to get to the pool. Like it is military or a sports team locker room. Not family atmosphere at all to me! Scarred for life~!
Shelby LeClair: We're actually not Y members, but we take advantage of the swimming lessons and the summer camp for our 7 year old.I have to say, my daughter has taken a lot of swimming lessons and she's never had a teacher as great as Allie at the Parkwood location! My daughter has always been a very nervous swimmer, but Allie has supported her in trying the things she has always wanted to do, but was too scared to attempt. Can't recommend her enough. Also, my daughter had a blast at the Pawapi camp and she's all signed up for another few weeks there this summer. This Y is a great community resource!
George DeWaters: These people are great and the swim program has really helped my family!
Christian Beery: I love playing basketball here but its gotten so busy, every time i try to go play theres people, they should have more courts
Shayna Cooper: From the moment I walked in, and was stared down by staff like I’m in the wrong place or something. To being ‘talked to’ for my language ( which I’m still unsure of what was even said since me and my GF probably spoke 5 words to each other the entire hour we were there.) and being talked to for resting for too long. There’s literally no reason why I should have to get off a bench when I rest for 15-30 seconds max in between sets. And with kids running around jumping on the equipment in between sets when switching out with my friend. While the parents who were right there say nothing. Entire experience was insane. Highly suggest no one ever going to this location if you’re actually wanting to work out. This place is for people who want to sit on their phones and let their kids run wild.
Ichabod Fell: Consistently excellent staff and facilities.

Oak Park YMCA: what do users think?
Jeremy B: It's never busy there which I like I would say they could do a better job of cleaning the locker rooms but overall good place.
Gary: This is one of the better YMCA I've been in:-) it is a treasure in the southside of Lansing
Ray Mg: The hours what made me cancel membership.. short open hrs .. pool not open as often..
Randy Bowen: I will share the screen shots of what a nightmare this place is. People swearing on the courts screaming, pool open 2 hours a week for the kids, broken machines, impossible to get a refund. The employees act like it honestly is their last dollar. I have been told multiple things on where my refund checkmis, all lies to where I had to file with the ceo. Avoid oak park ymca it is a shady dump.
Katrina Johnson: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityThe staff there are very kind and are really friendly, I love it when they take time out to say hey!My children who are now adults with children have grown up,as members and are now bringing their children Thank you so much for all the benefits you get to enjoy when your a member. We look forward to many more years! Thank so much!
Gary Lange: Positive:Communication
David Mack: Great
Blissful Knight: The staff are friendly and the pool is very deep! Their rules state: "Ages 13+ may join as individuals, however, youth 13–17 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the membership agreement and waiver." However, i've noticed a lot of unsupervised children and teenagers, especially on the basketball courts.
Robert Briseno: Even though it's an older building, there are many updates. Keep an eye out for swim times. Even though the pool and hot tub area is open, there are days and times it's unavailable.
Bethany Kline: Nice place like home
jose flores: Great place. Great staff.
Arturo Morales: Outstanding clean and safe! 👍
Robert Halloran: I've been a long time member. I'm very disappointed that the hot tub is closed and usage of the pool is restricted.
Paul “Postulio26”: Facility is outdated but the community is where it’s at 😁
Gail Robins: Love my classes at the Y. So happy to be back!
Andrew Moore: Good experience, plenty of machines and equipment, I just wish they were open a little bit later like 8 or 9 at least.
Zachary Power: It's a nice place with friendly staff
Fred Burke: Clean and safe. Very good protocols.
Craig M: Great staff, they do their best every time I'm there.I cannot be happier with the Oak Park Y and all they do to run a great facility!!
Abdifatah Mo: The pool is soo nice here
