She teaches both adults and children, and is so patient and kind with all of us, regardless if we’re beginners, intermediate, or advanced. She’s a joy to be around, and quick to answer any questions we might have. I would definitely recommend Platinum Dance Academy for anyone who is interested in dancing!

calarie idhe: My experience with this dance studio was not a pleasant one. I initially fell in love with Ms Shelly and her studio. After my daughter attended a few classes I was not pleased with the way she was treated by Ms Shelly. My daughter has a speech delay and was not accommodated at all within the class setting. Ms Shelli actually asked myself and fiancé to take our daughter out of the class because she get she was not a good fight. The prices are decent but the experience has to match. I personally would not recommend this dance studio. Every child deserves to feel apart of a group and not feel different and Ms Shelly did not deliver that for my daughter.

Shelley is a very experienced instructor - who will teach you the fundamentals to dancing, along with combinations that can be used in formal settings to social events. My own experience with platinum dance academy involved learning latin dances- along with ballroom dances. Shelley was instrumental in providing routines that catered to my developing style- She was able to teach with high amounts of patience not just dance moves- but also the science behind why you need to execute the move in that way. I have been going to platinum dance academy for almost 4 years now, and it is a wonderful environment for learning to dance. I would highly recommend getting in touch with them to set up your next lesson.

Lauren Magee: I would give zero stars if i could. I put my two year old in the toddler class and spoke to ms. Shelly about her joining ahead of time. When we got to class she was so mean to my daughter. I put my kid in that class to have fun and be creative but this woman made it a nightmare. She told my husband that we needed to learn to discipline our kid better and we needed to start now. She said this in front of all the other parents after bringing my kid out of the class. My daughter was following along and doing what the teacher said but she was telling her things like “don’t touch my stuff” and “if you open the door you can’t come back to dance class”. There were other kids crying and doing their own thing because they are toddlers but this woman hated my kid and she made it obvious. After the second class she told us not to bring my kid back because she’s not disciplined and she’s been a teacher for 15 years and our kids not normal. NOT NORMAL. This woman had the audacity to say that about our kid and in front of all the other parents and kids. We were shocked and really confused as to how she could be so horrible to a toddler who is not in the class as a professional but as a young kid having fun. Even other parents were appalled by what she was saying to us. I won’t come back obviously and i don’t think young kids should be in this class. Kids are supposed to enjoy themselves, not be berated by the person whose teaching them.

Alexis Schneider: Platinum Dance Academy is the BEST place to get your little one dancing! My 5 year old began taking ballet & tap dance classes there 3 years ago. She adores Miss Shelley and LOVES to dance. The ballet & tap is legit not just movement based like many other dance companies around. My daughter has learned the dance terminology including all of the positions and above all continues to learn self-confidence and discipline. The studio is beautifully tucked away and is East Lansing's best kept secret. Shelley is an amazing dancer, teacher and knowledgeable in every aspect of dance.

hima kurada: I’m sure everyone has heard this before but I don’t like to leave reviews good or bad ( apparently am too lazy). However, I was compelled to leave a review for Deb’s Zumba class. I am a working mom pretty active pre pandemic but then had a baby and the pandemic soon after made loose all interest in fitness ( going out period). As they last ditch effort to be fit (really just forced by my sisters 😒) I went to the kick it dance studio for Deb’s Zumba class. It was amazing not only did it kick my Bu** it was super fun. I’m not a dancer by any means but there was absolutely no judgement period! All in all it was great. Ladies if you’re like me and are looking to have some fun time while getting fit this may be the place for you. The only downside the class gets filled pretty easy because it’s worth it.

When we first started going one of my daughters didn’t know what she wanted to take, the owner suggested she try a bunch of classes to figure out what she likes. Then she picked 2. Then my other daughter was in soccer and wanted to do dance when soccer was over. The owner was very accommodating. Now 4 years later one daughter is still dancing and loves going. We have always had good interactions with all the workers and teachers.

Deborah O'Connell: I have been going to Kick It Out for 3 years and they have treated me like family since day 1. Their staff is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about dance. They focus their efforts on helping students improve their dance technique and grow as individuals. I am incredibly impressed by this facility and it's staff. I highly recommend this studio for children (competitive & rec classes), adult recreational classes, and fitness. They have a little something for everyone!

Kristin Tweedy: Kick It Out is a fabulous dance studio. The owners are incredibly hard workers and bend over backwards to make sure everyone feels included and accepted. There are dance classes for all ranges of dancers from beginners to experienced. They even have adult beginners classes, which is awesome! On top of that, they also have fabulous fitness classes they hold at their studio from Zumba to Pound to Yoga. It's a great place!

It’s not a fake name, actually very rude of you to assume it’s not my name. How would you fix anything when I decided that your dance studio was not a place I would ever want my child going again exactly, and there was no money to be refunded. YOU sound like someone bitter because I left a bad review, since you want to talk about how I sound. You want to fix something, fix the professionalism and training of your staff. However, clearly they get their training from you, so it all makes sense. Have a good day!

Sammy Chau: I had the worst experience with this place. My child was assaulted in class by another student, shoved out of class, while crying, without explanation and was held to a higher standard than the other children. She was repeatedly reprimanded for the same thing other children were doing. None of the other children were reprimanded like she was. All of this happened in 3 classes. I was offered to join the class after I was already walking out the door. I was only offered to sit down, on site and talk, after the owner repeatedly interrupted me while I was speaking with my daughter. They also required me to pay almost $300 on the first day of class, and none of it was refundable. Oh, and she is a 3 year old... I have proof they offered to view the recordings with me, once I accepted, they quit communication and threatened to contact their attorney.

I love that we can sign up for semesters (and quarters for the younger ones) because it doesn’t feel like a huge commitment up front. Miss Shannon makes it very affordable with rented costumes for recitals.

We went to another dance studio for a season with a friend and it was not what we were looking for. My daughter has so much more fun and enthusiasm for this dance program. Angela Fitton: I recommend DDC to everyone I know. I love that the classes are low commitment. Compared to another studio we tried, DDC is much more flexible and affordable. We've been able to use shoes from the freecycle cart rather than having to purchase a specific shoe and outfit for each class. We are looking forward to renting costumes for recital rather than paying hundreds for an outfit that will only be worn once, if that (hello pandemic). My girls like to try a lot of activities, so it's really nice that DDC has more than one term that allows us to work around other plans. But the nicest thing about DDC is the PHENOMENAL INSTRUCTION. My girls both love Shannon, and have had two other instructors (for musical theater and jazz) who are also fantastic. You can tell the instructors love what they are doing and love working with kids, which is what keeps us coming back for more.
