Gentle Strength Midwifery: what do users think?
Kristin Bayer: Sandra educated me more on my body and my baby than my previous OBs (four) ever did. My labor felt safe I knew I was in the best of hands!
Heather Darabos: Sandra is one of the kindest people I've ever met. While under her care I felt respected, heard, and completely safe. She patiently and thoroughly answered every single question I had. She was very responsive to every text and phone call. She did not try to convince us of anything but respected our choices and provided information. She was a great resource to my spouse and put him at ease as well.During the birth at my home she was a steady hand- calm and was sure of herself. She called an ambulance when my babies heart rate dropped, it ended up ok in the end. I felt as if she took my safety and the safety of my child very seriously. She was supportive and reassuring during the birth. She was totally present and available not not pushy. She cleaned up and helped me with whatever I needed after the birth.Thank you Sandra for being on my birth team and for making this both a beautiful experience I'll hold on my heart always.
Allison Claire: Sandra provided my prenatal, birth, and postpartum care for my second child. I came out of my first appointment with her last summer and said to my husband, "I have never felt so respected by a medical professional." To this day I still feel that way. From day one Sandra respected my autonomy and genuinely cared about me, and worked hard to give personalized care. She also recognized the important role of my husband and helped him through his journey of supporting me in a natural birth. I felt completely safe through the birth; she is kind and gentle but also extremely competent. 10/10 would recommend to any parent/parent-to-be.
Emily Robertson: Sandra is an amazing midwife and person. This was my first home birth after 3 hospital births, and we will definitely be using Sandra again if there are any more babies in our future. From hour long prenatal appointments to the personalized care to the amazing support after delivery I really can’t say enough good things about Sandra! Sandra is such a kind and compassionate person with so much experience and knowledge…she’s the best!
Hannah: Sandra was my midwife for my second home birth. She takes so much time getting to know and understand you, she always listens and gives advice when needed but let’s you make your own decisions with no judgment. She is kind and comforting when you need it the most. I used a different midwife for my first home birth, who was fine, but I will be sticking with Sandra for the rest of my labors. Highly highly recommend.
Brittany Force: I am so thankful several friends referred me to Sandra. After doing some research and a phone interview we KNEW Sandra would be the perfect midwife. She was always willing to listen to our needs and answer any questions we had. She had to refer us to an OB due to a potential delivery complication but we decided we needed her support as a DOULA for our birth. I feel so blessed to have her and her network of people support me during my pregnancy, birth and post partum visits. I highly recommend her services, IMO she is the BEST midwife in mid MI!!!!
Leslie Cowell: The birth of my baby with Sandra and her team was the most beautiful experience ever! From the first appointment to the last, I felt like me and my baby were in the best care. I would 100% recommend using the birth center and Sandra's midwife services - she truly is a special person!
Charis Doerr: So thankful for Sandra and all she did for us welcoming our third baby into the world. She accepted me as a client at 35 weeks pregnant and in a different state with plans to be in Lansing for the birth. She walked us through eleven days of waiting after baby's due date, always calm and reassuring that everything was looking good and normal. Once it was finally time to deliver, Sandra kept a level head through all of delivery and even during a moment of unknown after baby was born. All is well and healthy and happy, we loved our experience with Gentle Strength Midwifery and would recommend her to anyone interested in a homebirth!
Robert Anthony: Very easy to rate 5 stars. I would go six if there was an option. Quick story. We hadn't met Sandra. We had just moved to town after a tough time in DC during the height of COVID. Long story short. We got to Michigan 8 months pregnant and had to refigure our birthing plan rather quickly... but then, of course, the baby came almost 4 weeks early!! Sandra and I were still discussing details of how we would work together, especially since we were about an hour away (in Brighton). 1 am on June 21st my precious Shirley woke me up with The News, "The baby is coming today!" I was half asleep and could only muster the words, "Oh No Honey..." I started to pray. We had no birthing plan and were in a hotel (looking for a house to purchase/rent - again during the height of COVID)... At 2 am (ish) I reached out to Sandra with great desperation. Much to my surprise she responded within minutes!!! She simply said, "Just come." Whether she knows it or not, I wept reading her text. Tears running down my face (Yes, I also cry at movies, Hahaha, side note, "Muppet from Space" made me cry... so now you know me a little bit...) tears really filling my face, I said to my beautiful Shirley, "God already had everything taken care of honey. We are going to the birthing center in Lansing!" It was the first time we met Sandra face to face. It was Fathers Day (but I didn't remember it at the time). My wife and Sandra (with Sandra's right hand lady) went to work. I was on duty with the other three! (All 7 and under.) But once they settled down I was able to hold my wife thru it all and encourage her along. I was surprised at how the 6 and 7 year old girls were so interested. The 2 year old fell asleep but the older girls stood and marveled at the miracle of child birth! They weren't afraid. Just amazed! I could see it on their faces!! My son, Junior, was born within a short time of us arriving at the birthing center on Father's Day. The best Father's Day present of all time!! There was 60 seconds of fear where Shirley was not allowed to push because Junior had his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. But Super Sandra had no trouble with that! I watched her face for 60 seconds go from alarm and focus to the satisfaction that comes with victory as she fixed what could have been a monumental problem. I was too exhausted to tear up anymore. I just kept marveling, first at God who had everything planned way way before Junior was born, second at my wife who somehow gracefully glided through this whole event peacefully and even joyfully! I marveled often at Sandra, my Superhero... who took a risk on a family in need when how many would have turned us away!? But then, even greater, she saved my boy from any harm, she saved my wife from harm!! These three: God, my wife and Sandra gave me one of the very best events of my entire life and I will never be able to repay any of them: but to say, "I love you" and "Thank you". Junior is 10 weeks old now. He has grown like a weed. he was born at just under 19 inches and last time we measured him he was almost 25! He wants to be tall like his daddy, I guess!!? I hope and pray you dad's and mom's get to experience something so amazing as this in your birthing experiences. Sandra will most certainly make a great contribution! Be Blessed All!! Even in tough and troubling time, God is still good. Only love, Robert
Marissa Finch: I would 100% recommend Sandra to anyone considering a midwife or home birth! I was hesitant to have a home birth with my first child, but Sandra and her team made it the greatest experience, and I know this will be my first choice for any future births!
Genevieve P: We had such a wonderful experience with Sandra and her team! Sandra is so knowledgeable, but also empathetic and supportive. I loved our prenatal visits, having an hour to ask all my questions! And by the time of the birth, Sandra felt like a trusted friend rather than just a medical professional. She offered the perfect blend of support when needed while also giving us space to labor as a couple. We were delighted with our experience and have already recommended her to many friends!
Le Pappy: Midwife Sandra is an incredible human being, I would always recommend her. If I get pregnant again I am going to her. She does gods work.
Lauren Victoria: My first born child was born via c section in a hospital followed by an unsuccessful induction process. I was very unhappy with this result as I felt pushed by my OB to induce 11 days passed my due date. It was a very traumatic birthing experience for myself and my daughter. When I fell pregnant the second time, I knew I needed to try something different because I was dreading giving birth in a hospital again. I chose Gentle Strength Midwifery and I strongly urge you to do the same if you’re looking for exceptional and quality healthcare for yourself and your baby during and after the time of your pregnancy. Sandra, Becky, & Jade were all very considerate and kind. They were able to help me conquer something I never thought I could; a natural, unmediated, water birth. Nonetheless, I am very happy with how everything went. I felt completely safe and comfortable with Sandra, and even though my child’s father was first not on board with having a home birth, he says he would like to do it again for the next baby.I highly recommend Gentle Strength Midwifery!
Victoria Patton: Sandra provides a very holistic model of care. She makes you feel incredibly supported while giving you complete autonomy. I had such a beautiful, successful homebirth thanks to Sandra!!
Amber Schaberg: Sandra is the best midwife out there. She’s everything you could need and want- calm, knowledgeable and confident, professional, orderly, thorough, loving, gentle, likeable, and so on. We had pleasant office visits and a harmonious birth and recovery. She had all her ducks in a row when it comes to information you need, all clearly provided. Sandra is top notch on delivery day with a calm presence, a loving touch, and everything you need. She always has an answer or a solution to anything that might come up. Also, her midwife apprentice was just as wonderful as she was. I couldn’t have been happier with this experience or with gentle strength midwifery.
ScottandLornel Curey: The Midwifery skill and service is unmatched to the 5 other hospital births we have had. Sandra is qualified and skilled and does not take risks with your or the baby's health. She is very careful and very gentle. We would highly reccommend Gentle Strength midwifery if you are having your first baby or 7th. You are to expect the highest quality care.

Sparrow Mother Baby Center: what do users think?
Fowler Resident: Awesome experience! Nurses Denise and Brittany were fantastic. We have had a very positive experience with Sparrow and will be recommending Sparrow to family & friends! The nurses and doctors here truly go above and beyond.
Treya Dykstra-Swords: I delivered a pandemic baby in 2022 via scheduled c-section. I had a great c-section experience except for the spinal, which I was told I would barely feel (lol). Most things were okay, I usually felt safe and respected with a couple of exceptions. The one major one was a nurse on staff (Leslie) who was mostly cool decided she could talk trash about how I asked too many questions right outside of my door. Apparently the nurses don't know we can hear through those doors. That felt really rude. I know everyone is tired and overworked, but talk out of earshot y'all.
Lindsey Foley: Baby and I are happy and healthy after lots of medical complications during delivery. The nurses and staff were wonderful, we appreciate all of your hard work!
T K C: I don't know what is wrong with the nurses they are rude and unprofessional no bedside manner. On my second day i felt so suffocated with their attitude thatI asked for an early discharge. One nurse kept making me feel guilty for an elective C section i couldnt even express my pain because she would respond by saying well Csection is a major abdominal sugery as if I didn't know that and thought it would be a walk in the park.
