Sparrow Michigan Athletic Club: what do users think?
Brian Klotz: Love the MAC
Susan Martin: It's where we go for our medical doctor. There are many different things there such as medical equipment fitting, some rehab programs I think. Not sure what else. However the building itself is terrible if you're in a wheelchair. Threshold in is so unlevel that we had a terrible time trying to get over it. Several HEAVY interior doors do not have automatic openers?! If you don't have another person with you you'd have to call someone for assistance. And the doors with sensor openers don't usually work. Not disabled accessible in my opinion.
Noah Landon: Amazing. I’m a GAC member so I get one free day a week here, and my friend goes to MSU so whenever I visit I have the opportunity to use this facility. It’s massive, bigger than GAC. Staff is great, and I’ve never had a problem in the dozen or so times I’ve been. Super clean, awesome facilities, perfect gym.
mohammad torabi: This place is always nice. The only issue I have has been the fact that they reduced their hours during COVID and used it as an excuse to never go back to the original hours. When you message the management they are careless and basically respond with we don’t care what you think type of deal.
Chase: I am sharing this approximately 3 years after I graduated from State. There are times I still think about this gym. I live in Los Angeles and nothing compares. I love and miss you MAC.
Steve Underwood: Good indoor track
Brendan Watson: Winter 2023 update: Facilities are often in disrepair, closed, etc. When you call the club ahead of going and ask about specific facilities you're told they open, only to arrive and find them closed. The locker-room/restroom facilities are often not stocked with basics, have overflowing trash, and so disgustingly dirty that my children don't want to use them. All you hear from "management" are constant excuses while things get worse and worse.Spring 2022 update: I visited the club as a guest. The MAC hasn't gotten any better about maintaining the club. Bathroom trash was overflowing, no shampoo in shower, and could have written my name in dirt on the floor. When I raised these concerns with membership office, staff was defensive and argumentative. New leadership apparently is leading the club down the same, warn path downhill.Previous review: MAC has gone way down hill. Cleaning before COVID was atrocious. Now during COVID they want to force members back to the club or charge them a "hold" fee of $28/month?? This is what the club considers "customer service." Even when COVID is behind us, it's going to take a lot to convince me that the increasingly overpriced membership is worth it to return.
Marie Dotson: Great classes
Richard Gilchrist: Unfortunately I need to change my review. The MAC is no longer my happy place. I wrote an honest review to the annual member survey and got slammed, getting told my opinion didn't matter. I just don't understand why you do a survey if you don't appreciate the answers.I am joining the ranks of the long term members that go and complain about everything, until I find a new club to join.
Michael Mumaugh: On the pricey side for membership but worth it if you have kids interested in group sport activities. The coaches are great.
Amanda Zhang: I had my membership since 2018. Since pandemic, I moved out of state and I keep my virtual membership to connect with MAC coaches since they are the awesome. At the beginning, it didn't run well due to Wifi connection issues. It seems this year it's getting better. They use Fitness on Demand to manage their online lessons. However, it ran into issues there such as missing online lessons posted. When it happened, I called MAC and the customer service can't help. It was terrible with today's experience. The person answering my call does not understand virtual membership at all. He kept telling me there is a problem with my membership that he can't add me to class reservation. I explained I'm not asking for in person lesson reservation. It's for online lesson. I spent 30 mins to explain and he finally told me he can't help. It's completely waste my time.
Mary Ellen Lowe: Even though it's a busy place, we always find parking. Whether it's swimming, working out or playing ball, there's something for everyone.
Jude Hoogterp: Karen lady kicked our team off the balcony while watching our team compete in the state championship. Disrespectful. 😟
shera Brown: Very nice staff
Helena Bezant Niblett: You must use the booking app at midnight if you want to book a tennis court for rec play after work. ( 5 pm - 8 pm) Coaches often block out the courts, leaving just three courts or less for members to use at peak times. Impossible to have a regular weekly game. #tennisplayer
Heather Harrison: As the only hospital-based health club in Michigan, the MAC claims to be committed to improving the health of its community. While wheelchair users may be able to get through the door, the pool and equipment are largely inaccessible. Additionally, much of the facility has narrow pathways with sharp turns that are difficult to maneuver in a wheelchair. Though the pool does have a lift, it still requires a certain amount of mobility to use. This restricts many people from using the pool even though it is a great form of exercise that allows wheelchair users a far greater range of motion. The facility used to have a far more accessible lift several years ago (in fact, the tracks from the previous lift are still visible in the pool area). Despite being confronted with these concerns, the management still has no concerns about increasing the accessibility of the facility.
Denise Houck: So disappointed. When we joined we hoped to have the grandkids enjoy the slide pictured. It was under repair for the first 9 months. Finally thought today would be the day. Kids were looking forward to it as was I. Nope. No slide on the weekends, short staff . We enjoy the club most of the time but could be better.
Sean Gregory: Amazing amenities, and great staff.
Deanna Lundy: Great I work there
Joel Stephens: The Michigan Athletic Club is easily the best club to come to in the greater Lansing area. These reviews saying that the club is"dirty" and that "you can write your name in dirt" are lies. The club has made great strides in member safety and cleanliness. Like most places they appear to have some staffing issues that make some things difficult at times like the pools (Friday 5/13 prime example), but they're working on it and it's been an improvement since they've reopened. Aside from that, classes are great, equipment is clean and easy to use. Staff are polite and helpful. Great place!
Kaitlin Jackson: My family loves the M.A.C.! My husband told me about this place he use to attend and love awhile back Then one day my son had a birthday party to attend here and we have been here ever since All the people here are amazing. The classes are great. Great friend have been made here. The restaurant inside is delicious. Smoothies are yummy.

I.Q. Fitness & Wellness Center: what do users think?
Jessica Carpenter: I LOVE working out here. The programs are easy to follow and I do not feel out place. I have not worked out in gyms much so I was apprehensive at first. I feel comfortable and the programs are designed for me and my fitness level. I am pushed to work my hardest which is exactly the kind of attention I need when going to a personal training gym.
Hannah Marsh: Coach Carl is the best! I learned so much while training here and always felt welcome and never any judgement. It can be hard to find a gym environment that really embraces a 'come as you are' attitude but I certainly felt that during my sessions here. The small group setting is really a nice way to workout and still socialize a little, all the members have been so nice, too. Would highly recommend Coach Carl to anyone looking to learn more about lifting & corrective training.
Julie Ruark: I feel well taken care of and inspired to pursue continual improvement at I.Q. Fit. I am already seeing tangible results from the accountability and structure they provide! I've reversed weight gain and I'm enjoying more energy and strength. Thanks IQ Fit!
mike markey: The only "gym" I have ever truly enjoyed as a member. I have been a client for 3+ years and have moved from weight loss to strength conditioning over that time. The results have been exceptional. The small team "personal" training is just that. Programs are tailored to your individual goals and needs, proper techniques are taught and monitored, and "wellness" is ingrained I particularly enjoy Coach Carl and his insistence on pushing me and creating "challenging" programs. I have never been so enjoyable exhausted as I have after some of his workouts - Thanks Carl! I have and will continue to highly recommend IQfit to anyone who wants to enhance their health and fitness!
Christine Shearer: IQ Fitness, has been a God send to me, especially through COVID. They didVirtual works outs with us 5 days a week.. . And even had classes at local parks. The owners and coaches are top notch, highly educated on the correct form, and amazing with injury recovery. I highly recommend IQ Fitness if your serious about getting in shape and healthy.
Emily Huening: As a lifelong outdoor exerciser and cardio lover, I never thought that I would actually look forward to lifting weights/working out at a gym. This is the only program I've ever stuck with for longer than a few weeks, and I truly enjoy coming in each time. I have definitely become stronger, feel healthier, and am confident that with each exercise routine, I am doing everything correctly and not going to injure myself. The atmosphere is wonderful - I sometimes even leave with a few new jokes :D
Nancy Noaker: I am so grateful to have found IQ Fit! Working with Jason to identify areas i need to improve has put me on the right path to not only lose weight but get stronger and feel great. The work out routine is the best I have ever experienced and developed just for me. I know what I need to do and have someone there to help me every step of the way. IQ fit is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Jay Makowski: Overall, excellent place that fits my needs and goals. I wanted to join a place where it was more personal than commercial and this is a great place for it. I have been a member for two+ years and have really seen results! Starting with weight loss then moving to muscle building, I am happy. Coach Carl is wonderful to work with, as are the owners (as was Coach Max). The gym side is great, I have not tried the other part of the business which is currently developing and growing. The times the owner, Jason, has personally coached, he really knows his stuff and is exacting with movements ensuring low risk of injury and top notch results! I am happy to support a local family-owned business rather than a commercial for-profit mill. The best part is the members, who make it feel like being on a great team when you work out with the same folks! Kudos to all who hustle and grind day in and day out here!
Big Rob: Great personal gym. Really recommend it if you are in the Lansing area. Very attentive and knowledgeable staff and nice equipment. Really caters the workout to the trainee. They offer holistic approaches as well in order help you achieve a better self. Schedule a consultation and check them out!
Mike Schotter: Will update later, took only 1 year to reply, u r right. U never worked with me, but you worked with someone i know and from what i understand, jason is a person who is a control freak from his female employees "must wear spandex" pants to his so called being a Dr but without a degree to him insisting on his patients must buy dietary products from him. But most of all, he really demeans his female employees. If you go there may i suggest doing your homework in the most diligent mannor. Btw I did not give a 1.5 star I gave a 1 star thats only because I could not give a lower star review. If your wife or husband goes here please watch Jason and his male staff, also ask yourself "do i trust my daughter, my wife, or significant other with this person?" Please read further in reviews. You will see example of his demeaning twards his staff.
Andrew Radin: Positive:Quality
Mary Jane Bornemann: I have been a member of IQ for 16 years. They have kept me healthy and strong. I am 70 years old and can do 15 - 20 push-ups and do not take any medications. Jason helps me with my diet, tells me what supplements to take and works on my muscles when I overwork them. Thanks Jason, you are an awesome natropathic doctor with the goal to help as many people as you can.
Corrine Higley: Negative interactions with owner do not outweigh positives of coaching staff (who are overworked and underappreciated).Perhaps I should title this review "manipulative owner continues to gaslight me and tell me my experience is invalid". It is entirely inaccurate to state the coach left to take a different opportunity - the coach in question is currently cleaning carpets because he is being blackballed from the industry by the owner of this facility, despite being the most experienced and qualified coach on staff. How toxic must an environment be for someone to want out that badly, knowing they would not be able to work in their field? For clarity, my main issue with the owner of this facility started with his response to my personal discomfort with the coach hired to replace the one who left. Owner's response basically stated that they were desperate and that I should just deal with it, or not come in as often anymore to avoid seeing the new hire.
magic90015: I was surprised when I went in No one was wering mask the employee told me they have different air system{what ever that mean) so they sont have to wear one if ur on that side. Ans if u want to wear mask u can work in other side where there were no one. Lol
Lee Mullen: Moved on to train elsewhere after 2 years.
Sharon Civils: IQ is a good way to get your entire mind, your body problems and mental view on the right track. Also you will be taught how to eat healthy. You will receive a personalized training program developed specifically for you and you Alone. Your body problems such as bad knees, shoulders or legs doesn't matter what your problem is it will be addressed immediately. The staff are friendly smart and attentive. Jason is a born cutting edge leader in this intellect meets health and weight loss arena.
Jill Sandborn: Always welcoming with encouraging words and a positive environment. I started going here back at the end of January and normally go 4x week. I have lost weight and fat and gained muscle and strength. Thank you to Jason, coaches and staff.
Stacey Kelley: This place is great! Trainers are knowledgeable and friendly. It’s like you are part of the family. Classes are fun and high energy! Love going to the morning workouts!! Jason McCammon is a wealth of knowledge on fitness and nutrition!
Yvette Collins: Great atmosphere. Great coaches.
Jadi Finley: IQ Fit is a great gym for beginners like me! The Coaches are not only knowledgeable, but they genuinely desire to invest in the people they are working with and celebrate even the smallest of changes. I love supporting this locally owned business and can honestly say that they have had (and are continuing to have) a lasting impact upon my life.
Carla White: I have lost over 40 pounds since I joined IQ. It is wonderful to be nearly 70 years old and feel great. The workouts are tough and make me strong so I can run and play with my grandchildren. The trainers are great. Currently, Tyler is the morning trainer. He is energetic, enthusiastic, attentive and makes me work hard. The workouts are specifically designed to meet each individual's needs based on assessment of abilities and goals. Jason has worked with me on nutrition and done restorative sessions for my posture. The gym is clean and well equipped. There are many opportunities for self improvement and the atmosphere is encouraging and comfortable. I can't imagine a better place to work out.

Spartan CrossFit: what do users think?
Kerwin Post: Awesome community, very warm and welcoming!!! Equipment solid with excellent coaching from Semma!!!! Thanks for the drop!!!
Holly Chuang: Semma’s great! I so appreciated her coaching when I attended her classes. It was also easy to ask her to extend the expiration date of my drop-in on PushPress.
Thomas McFall: Great box with super friendly staff and athletes. Go Green!!
Joe Furuseth: Fun Sunday "Sparti-O" WOD 🙂, I did A LOT of DUs! Nice place for a drop-in, friendly folks!
Samantha Bodan: I had such a good time stopping by Spartan CrossFit. Everyone was so welcoming, and the coach Semma was very understanding of me coming back after a couple month hiatus. She had great coaching cues and was easy to follow instruction from. Definitely one of the highlights of Lansing!
Al R: It’s lit.
Andrea Abbas: I recently moved to the area for work and am happy I found Spartan CrossFit. The coaches are amazing people and the culture is inspiring. I love my gym!
Alisson Mota: Almost 3 years coming here and I stand by these 5 stars!
Julia Angst: I’ve been at Spartan CrossFit for 1.5 years now and I can honestly say it is the highlight of my day! The workouts are fun but also tough. All workouts can be scaled for any ability and scaling is actually encouraged on most occasions. The coaches are fantastic and the programming is top tier, but the best part is the community that Spartan has created!
Kennedy Selewski: Spartan CrossFit is a great community and has a very supportive environment! The best place EVER!
Katherine Sands: Spartan CrossFit has really been one of the best experiences I have had while living in Lansing! I have done CrossFit at other boxes but this one has not only helped me get stronger, fitter, and more technically sound, but they have a real community that is there to help you and cheer you on towards your goals! If I could give them more stars I would!
Matthew Longthorne: Incredible coaching, even better programming. The community is great. Highly recommend!!
Bethany Ashworth: Great coaches, members, and space. Plenty of clean, new equipment and a lot of square footage that is laid out nicely. Biggest pro for me compared to other gyms in the area is many more class time slots during the day (5a, 6a, 9a,12p, 4p, 5p, 6p, and 7p). Workouts are published the night before along with coaching insight to maximize your effort and see results. Coaches truly care about you, your health, and reaching your goals. I would recommend this gym to anyone who is an experienced Crossfitter, someone who is looking to try something new, or anyone starting their fitness journey. They offer great suggestions for scaling options and always have plenty of equipment (both cardio and weights). Would recommend.
Jennifer Galvan: Great community and programming! Definitely a good place for a drop-in if you are passing through. WODs are always fun and challenging!
iza de Barbaro: Been coming to Spartan Crossfit for 4 years -- love the programing, love the intensity and variety of the workouts, love the coaches and the community of people. This gym is a huge part of my life and it is so wonderful. I came not knowing how to do any of the Olympic lifts or crossfit moves and have learned so much over the years.
Ashley Seddon: Great CrossFit box! The programming is very methodical & every movement has a purpose. The coaches make it their priority to look at form & make changes as needed for every athlete. Love the community of people that attend!
Karina Orlowska: This place is extraordinary with outstanding and super knowledgeable coaches focused on teaching good form and right technique. The atmosphere is just amazing. We are all there to improve our personal best and support each other in the process. Spartan CrossFit will embrace you as family with open arms. I’ve never felt intimidated but always welcomed. You want to get pumped up both mentally and physically, this is the place for you! You absolutely MUST check it out for yourself.
Semma Burba: I walked into Spartan CrossFit 9 years ago as an out of shape 39 year old woman. I didn’t know what in the world I was doing, but I was eager to learn. The workouts turned out to be so much more interesting, FUN, and effective than the treadmill workouts that I grew accustomed to. The coaching, attention to detail, creativity in programming, and community was exactly what I needed to have success in a CrossFit setting. I fell in love with the CrossFit methodology and specifically Spartan CrossFit, and can’t imagine ever going back to my old ways of working out. I’ve gained so much through my experience at Spartan CrossFit and am so thankful I took a chance and walked in the door so many years ago.
Candace Gregory: Love the community, love the programming. I hear the coaching and the nutrition program are pretty good too! Come check us out!
Mircea Lazar: Spartan CrossFit is more than just an exceptional gym; it's also a fantastic community. Everyone I've met here over the past two years and two months has been kind, friendly, and highly supportive. The coaches are all extremely knowledgeable and experienced and provide each athlete with individualized instruction and modifications in every class. There is also a strong emphasis on good form, proper technique, and appropriate scaling that is a hallmark of the box. The programming is top-notch and generates athletes that are well-rounded in weightlifting, gymnastics, and metabolic conditioning. Please consider joining Spartan CrossFit if you are looking for a place to get fit and healthy and have fun while doing it!
Chen Du: Spartan CrossFit is a welcoming and a fun place to become fit while making friends. I am so thrilled with the level of fitness that I have reached in only 5 months of working out at Spartan CrossFit and am looking forward to the continued journey toward the better self that I can become. It is such a privilege to be guided by the excellent exercise programmer and all the knowledgeable, caring, and patient coaches. Most importantly, training alongside like-minded athletes who grow together and cheer and celebrate each other’s growth makes my exercise experience so much more fun and enjoyable. Being a part of the Spartan CrossFit community is a transformative experience for me, not only for fitness but also for mentality!

State of Fitness: what do users think?
Sunil CD: My favorite place to start a day full of energy and positivity! All trainers in SOF know what they are doing and always push us for the best!If you are looking to shape yourself better, it's the place and they are the people! ❤️
jim mccomb: A great gym with a great staff
Julie Carmichael: Testimony of how State of Fitness has impacted my life. I have been a member since they opened. On the past weekend I did yard work for 4 hours , hydrating and wiping my brow. My body was able to do the work. FYI: I am beginning my 7 th decade! And I will continue my workouts with this amazing gym and it’s very qualified trainers!
Nada (Nada): Hands down the best gym in the area. An amazing community that genuinely feels like family, and a team of extremely knowledgeable trainers, who truly care about making a difference in the lives of their members. If you’re still uncertain about joining, this is your sign :)
Kelly Hammerle: Love this gym! The staff is highly trained. They make sure my visits are safe, productive and a positive experience every time.
Bill Belanger: State of Fitness has provided an amazing environment to start and continue my fitness journey. I have found the Trainers to be very top notch when it comes to form, technique, interaction, and most importantly support/encouragement. When it comes to the class offerings, the variety is refreshing. While I typically take the Conditioning classes, the schedule ensures you are not repeating the same classes which keeps things interesting.Lastly, the environment is very welcoming from the staff to the other members. My wife and I have developed many lasting friendships with others at SOF, which is a huge side benefit in my view.I highly recommend SOF!
Jessica Stemen: Best gym around! If you’re looking for trainers who continue to educate themselves, members who are friendly and encouraging, a gym that is clean and not stinky- look no further!I have been a trainer here for 11 years and I love coming to work. State of fitness is so much more than a gym. It’s a community. We care about you and want to help you have a happier, healthier lifestyle.
Susan Andrews: I do mostly strength training in a small group. Everyone has been very supportive and they help me to do exercises correctly. They also are happy to help me modify exercises to take it easy on my knee if needed. I’ve been at it for a couple months now and I’m stronger and feel better already. Very knowledgeable trainers!
Charles Hadlock: This gym has changed my life! The semi-private classes offer a low pressure way to really work on all of the different parts of the body. A few short months after joining, every part of my body felt better as a result of the training. I have been in for over a year and always look forward to getting to a class. The workouts change on a regular basis to keep things interesting and hit different muscle groups. Other gym members are extremely friendly and at a variety of age and fitness levels. The trainers are all excellent - each with a slightly different perspective and way of motivating the class and explaining the different exercises. Peppy background music adds to the energy of the gym. I highly recommend SOF!
chuckleswd: State of Fitness is a great Gym!!!! The qualify of the training and trainers is excellent and consistent across trainers.. The atmosphere is friendly and there is a place for everyone there. They are very friendly to people who are not "Gym Rats" There are people of all levels of fitness and ages.. I started there at my least fit stage of my life. They were welcoming, encouraging and NO JUDEGEMENT. There are also some people who are are really advanced in their training. So it is motivating to see the possibility of how far one could go on their fitness quest.. Overall it feels like a friendly community of people (a family) wanting to work on being healthy together. Mary D.
Julie Conley: Very supportive environment. All of the trainers are helpful and attentive. Equipment and locker rooms are excellent.
Jan Stuart: I am so happy I found this place. I did the 21-day trial. My first impression was that it was extremely clean and welcoming. By the end of the first week, I was totally hooked. The trainers are wonderful and I’ve made many friends. It is so nice to be working out in a clean, safe, encouraging place.
Esli Gollapalli: The trainers are great. They personalize everything for ya. I regularly get some soreness or pain, they’re always so good about making sure I protect those areas but continue to push myself in other areas. Highly recommend! 20/10!
kelli mccardel: Entire staff is great, been training here for 10 years now. Full of good people who motivate you daily to put in the work and get results.
Aaliyah Haqqi: It's great, you can work out in your own, join a class, have a Semi-private training sessions of 4-6 people , a personal session, they have conditioning/boot camp sessions and a monthly consultation about nutrition or workouts or whatever you want, all the trainers are qualified to nutrition advice as they've taken the coursethe trainers know what they're doing. If you have an injury you're recovering from they give you alternative movements to do in the workouts, and tell you stretches that can also help (some of which people do in physical therapy).they make you feel apart of the community, any trainers baby shower or moving away party everyone is invited, and the people you meet at the gym become great friends, when you sign up youre joining the SOF family...I've been here for 3 years and Its an amazing experience, unfortunately I had to move out of town, can't find another gym like this place (the commitment of the trianers and how they care about everyone they train and the community)
Gunisao Lodge: State of Fitness is a great gym. The best part is the trainers. They give great instructions and keep the pace moving along during the classes. I do semi-private classes 5 days a week and by the end of the week I know I got a total body workout. The gym always in pristine cleanliness. Another great part of the gym is it is never too busy because they regulate the class sizes and the other patrons are really great too. I’m 45 years old and love to just show up, get a trainer to tell me what to do and then go home feeling great from an hour long work out.
Liz Spector Callahan: This place is the best. I look forward to working out here every single time. The trainers are knowledgeable, kind, and empowering. The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. I’ve been a member for 6 months and have gotten so much stronger in that short time. A lot of the strength and conditioning movements have some sort of core work involved - after having 2 kids, this is the first place I’ve found where the workouts are really helping me get my core strength back. You can do a trial to see if you like it first, which I also found to be really helpful. People were so friendly and encouraging when I first joined, and really made me feel welcome. 5 stars- the best!
Stephanie Jordan: Love the mornings when they are empty
Amy Wright: Greatest gym ever! This gym is worth every penny. All of the trainers are highly professional, safe, and competent. I feel very comfortable with the measures that they’ve put in place in regard to Covid. I don’t think you’ll find a cleaner workout facility.
Marnie Bullock: I have been a member of SOF for about four years. I always leave feeling like I had a great workout, and I don’t think I have ever had the same workout. The trainers are incredibly knowledgeable, patient and fun! I recommend SOF to everyone!
Jill Kochanek: An amazing community-centered business that truly cares and the holistic health and wellbeing of its clients!

University Club Fitness Center & Spa: what do users think?
Quos: Only 4 stars cause you get random charges occasionally and its hard to argue. My mom never went here and i paid cash but she still would get charged sometimes, money never got refunded. Not just a one time thing either
Terra Luckett: Never replied to my inquiry
Marsha McCoy-Pfister: Resort style fitness center and pool. Small personal workout classes. New outdoor pool. Desk staff call you by name.
Dave Barnett: Amazing staff and a really nice facility. It is expensive if you're looking for simply a fitness center, but the trainers are great to work with and the place has a very relaxed atmosphere.
