John Customer: From the start, the person responsible for getting my lumber was yelling at me, nasty and belligerent. Then I told him the counter guy said I could pick out my own lumber and he got even more irate and yelled "who said you could" and walked over to the lumber building and called the desk. Then the same guy screamed at me from the lumber building "Come ON!" I told him he had poor customer skills and I could get a refund and go somewhere else if he wanted, and he yelled "GO AHEAD!" and screamed to follow him inside. Someone went to get the mgr who just made things worse. The mgr. continued to glare at me, so, I know he didn't care about me no matter what words came out of his mouth. Seemed like everyone there had an attitude of some kind. So-- If you like to be abused for spending your hard earned cash-- this is the place to go--! It was worse than I can relate and no matter what anyone at Carter might say, I did -absolutely nothing- to be treated that way. I had/gave them no bad attitude. I treated no one badly until I was treated that way. Once I demanded my money back and saw that the mgr wasn't really going to do anything, I gave them some of their own medicine and I was nasty back. Won't apologize for that. Mgr was Josh Smithers. The belligerent guy wouldn't give me his name. I am a professional employee, but, had on a ball cap, old clothes, disheveled hair. Wonder if I would be treated the same if I wore my suit in there? I contacted the C.E.O. of Carter Lumber and several other executives and left recorded messages for them about what happened. They did not call me back, but, the next day Josh Smithers, the Mgr., sure did. He apologized profusely and offered me for free, the items I was to buy and offered to deliver them to my home. Unfortunately, he was still defending the employee as a "good employee who worked there for 20 years." That wasn't what I wanted to hear. I wanted to hear that the employee would be counseled that the way he treated me was inappropriate and would not be tolerated. So, I will not go back to Carter Lumber or accept their freebies. If customers continue to patronize businesses that treat them this way, expect it to get worse. Executives: If this happened to me, you can bet it has happened to other customers. A person at Glazers Lumber (just down the street from Carter) said he has been getting customers from Carter for over 25 years due to poor treatment and service. My advice is to never buy from a business that treats you in a undignified manner. Let your money and continued patronage go to other business' who appreciate you. To address James Rockon's comments: (Really, you are going with that name? Hard to take you seriously with a name like Rockon and very original too). I assume that someone put you up to your review (a friend of, relative of, or for favors from Josh Smithers perhaps, or another employee?) as my review was the only one for Carter Lumber prior to yours, and yours addresses me directly. I am glad they treated you well, as I have heard lots of accounts of bad treatment of customers at that location. Carter should be ashamed of the blatantly awful treatment I received. The CEO and other management that I contacted at Carter Lumber made no excuses for people who evidently do not appreciate their own jobs (chasing away customers is not a normal model for business success). I imagine if Carter Lumber employees yelled at you for no reason other than try to ruin your day, you would have reviewed Carter much the same as I did. I have been to that location numerous times before, mainly for proximity reasons. For the most part I have never received any service that had any sense of urgency, friendliness, helpfulness, or made me want to go back. And, oh yea, yelling or not, "the truth has no boundaries" and I imagine the executives at Carter Lumber are not so easily mislead. I hope these unprofessional events are discussed with Mr. Smithers at his next performance appraisal, as well as his "good 20 year employee's."
James Rockon: Hugh G. Rection?... With a name like that, nobody is going to take your review seriously. Personally, I've only had great experiences at Carter, and I recommend them very highly. Excellent products and a very knowledgeable staff that go out of their way to help. Some people may feel uncomfortable at lumber yards because they feel pressured to know things, or to act like they know things. Well at Carter they treat you with respect, and if you don't have a clue with things such as measurements on your project for example, don't be afraid to ask what you might think are stupid or humiliating questions. They will literally go out of their way to help you, and if the person you are talking to can't help, they will get someone who can very quickly. I was personally amazed at the knowledge of the staff at Carter and for that they get 5 stars....This is no Big Box store where the staff has absolutely no clue. I was once at that orange colored big box store I asked a lumber associate where the 4x6x8 treated are located and he had no clue what I was talking about. How do you work in a lumber dept and not know what a 4x6 is?!? The men and women at Carter know their stuff and you can pretty much throw anything at them and they will know whats up. Prices are sometimes a tad on the high side, but you get what you pay for and so no complaints on that.. Oh and nobody is yelling.

Matthew Higgins: Ordered a large quantity of fasteners and 2x4 for a commercial project. I needed it on short notice and they were able to deliver on time with no missing material. I will happily do business with Gilbert Lumber again, but I wish they had the convenience of being open until 5pm.
Ray Hughes: I wouldn't pay this guy money if his life depended on it. Came here once before and didn't think much of it but he was short then. I called today to see what time they close because it isn't four like shown on Google and he was rude for no reason at all. I was curious as another business owner why he was closing early and wondering if it was because of lack of employees, I was going to make sure and give him the business as a local. When I asked that question he told me he didn't feel he owed me an explanation, well I was only curious if we were in a similar struggle. I wish people would stop supporting all these businesses with rude horrible customer service. Its time to eliminate the problem. And apparently he doesn't need or appreciate the business.
Dusty Myers: Great lumber yard! I originally ordered lumber from Carter Lumber for a project I was working on. The lumber I received was unusable, so I sent it back. The lumber I got at Gilbert Lumber was high quality - straight and relatively few knots. I highly recommend this store. Buy local! You can give them your order and they will put it together for you. You don't have to sift through a bunch of low quality lumber to get the few boards that will work like you have to do at the big box stores.

Yesterday one was actually rude on a return and nothing was out of order. I have only visited this Menards so cant speak for other stores and I rarely ask for assistance but if I do Id like to be treated pleasantly.
John Kinsora: After I spent 10 minutes looking for an item to no avail I decided to find an employee for some assistance. I came across a group of four employees having a rather inappropriate conversation and politely asked if they could point me in the right direction. Three of them we’re clueless but the fourth who was as pleasant as a rattlesnake simply pointed down an isle saying go that way it should be by the end then turned and continued with their conversation. I was a slightly annoyed by the lack of customer service but it was the last item I needed so I went to checkout. I purchased around $600 worth of building supplies and as I was leaving the store asset protection stopped me and accused me of stealing a $12 dollar pair of reading glasses I’d been using to read labels since I had forgotten mine. I understand this is their job and as a former police officer I’ve handled plenty of calls for retail theft and if he had conducted himself properly it wouldn’t have been an issue. But instead he decided to be rude, arrogant and condescending letting his little plastic asset protection id inflate his ego. After a brief argument that continued even after I made it obviously clear I hadn’t taken anything he finally realized it was time to shut his mouth and walk away, I was so annoyed by the overall experience I nearly returned everything and wish I had.

Will Simon: It is my unfortunate duty to report that the warranties offered by this establishment are a clear and blatant case of deceptive marketing. Regrettably, the product I purchased was found to be defective due to a manufacturing issue, rendering it inoperable. Despite having purchased a warranty, the establishment in question refused to honor their commitment and provide the necessary recourse, citing the unavailability of the product in question.This grossly unfair treatment was not a one-off occurrence, as a subsequent purchase of a chainsaw also proved to be similarly problematic. In this instance, the chainsaw failed to start even after an employee's intervention, yet the establishment was once again reluctant to provide the promised refund. It was only through persistent and arduous negotiation that I was able to secure the due compensation for both incidents.It is deeply concerning that the establishment's business practices have led to such distressing outcomes, which can only be described as a form of daylight robbery. However, as a tenacious and determined individual, I remained resolute in my pursuit of justice, and was able to reclaim what was rightfully mine.

My husband opened and assembled the power washer early April and tried to start it end of April. The machine won't even spark up. Can't get through to a live person at Craftsman. And the only advice Lowe's could give was to contact Craftsman. This was Lowe's in Lansing, Michigan. Will definitely not shop with them for having terrible customer service. Should have known better than to buy anything Craftsman, but this is what a friend recommended.Not sure who from Lowe's posted the response back. No one at the 1-800 number even knew where to send my call to. What a joke. I am now even more furious. DO NOT BUY CRAFTSMAN. There is a reason Sears went out of business. Their product is junk. Will still not shop at Lowe's again. Would not have had this issue at Home Depot. Should have known.
