KSK Martial Arts: what do users think?
Maria and Sofia's Missions!!: KSK is very enjoyable class. My girls don't wanna miss any session... the instructors are very friendly
Matthew Grieshop: My son and I have been training in the Arnis weapons program for a few months. I trained in a variety of arts in my 20s and early 30s and am having a blast! IMO kali is an immediately applicable art, its foundation emphasizes simple body mechanics applied to non specific weapons and open hand techniques. The bonus has been the time I spend with my 17 year old son. The instructors and students are truly welcoming. Guru Kent is an outstanding instructor and is great at motivating focus and has fostered a fun and inclusive environment.
Bryson Maddick: Positive:Communication,QualityGreat atmosphere with an outstanding insructor and staff! I did a trial session and immediately signed up for a 12-month membership. Highly recommend 👍
Nicole Allen: My son has been a student here for several months and LOVES it (in the Little Ninjas program). The staff is great, very friendly. Instructions during class are well structured and organized, as well as appropriate for and geared towards youth learners. If you are looking for a high-quality, high-energy atmosphere for your kid(s) to learn MMA, or get exercise, learn discipline, respect, self-defense and confidence - all at an affordable rate - this is the place.
John Ward: Beyond impressed and happy with KSK. I've been sending my 9 year old there for the past month and couldn't be happier. If you're looking for a school where your kid(s) is going to be treated like a special/delicate flower and the focus is on memorizing katas to "earn" the next belt, then this isn't the place for you or your child. However, if you're wanting a MA school that instills discipline, life lessons, rewards and recognizes hard work, all while learning unarmed combatives - then this 110% is the place to go. Only regret I have is not starting my son sooner.
Jose Sanchez: I practiced in KSK a few years ago.RECOMMENDATION: Do not subscribe for a year. If you are really interested in the school, try the classes at least for 2 good months before making longer commitments.THE GOOD: They have a diverse curriculum, the owner has good technique and knows his stuff. This is not a McDojo.MY BAD EXPERIENCE: I committed the mistake of registering for 1 year. Soon after my registration I started a Masters degree and was not able to attend the classes anymore. The owner didnt accept to cancel my subscription. The school had the option of private lessons, so I asked to get private lessons for the money I was paying, but he didn't accept. neither He was OK in just taking my money without offering other option in exchange. Also, I paid for shorts as part of the subscription but were never delivered. The classes of the program I registered to were not enough to call it a work out, the instructor said that you can get a workout by your own, and is true, but, I mean, this is martial arts! I expect any MA class to be the best workout; so if you are looking for a MA school that can also help you to get in shape, this may not be what you are looking for, unless you register for several hours per day or have time to workout by yourself. You will see really cool performances, keep in mind those may be just choreographies.
Benjamin.eichler Eichler: Well-thought-out and well-planned. It's wonderful to work with an educator that puts in the time to focus on details
Eric Cullimore: Great owner and instructors! Excellent place to train.
Sally Dettmer: The new location is looking great. Looking forward to becoming a student there
Steve Peto: Excellent instruction and great friendly atmosphere. High quality martial arts in the Lansing area, providing strong development in skills, self confidence and respect for yourself and others.
David Overley: The instruction is good...and you can learn to defend yourself if you work hard. The people and atmosphere can be a little intimidating, as it can be a bit of a social clique. However, they are typically warm and welcoming to newcomers.Rising in the Ranks can be weird, as there is no traditional "Testings" just evaluations from the instructors to decide when they think you are ready to get moved up. Unfortunately those evaluations can come in the form of "Private lessons" with an instructor, and those can cost nearly as much as your monthly tuition. That said, The monthly prices are not terrible, however the 3 hour class schedule can daunting and hard to manage for busy people. Many pick and choose what they want to focus on, and just do those hours.I was here for over three years...learned some great application level knowledge to expand my martial arts.If you stay out of the social circle and focus on that martial arts, you will learn.Go for the martial arts, and stay for the martial arts.
Ed Spamjunk: My 12 & 13 year old's go to KSK.. They already had a lot of martial arts experience before they joined KSK. After they did their KSK trial, they asked me to buy it for them. When I asked why? They said the KSK teaches them to fight, they get to fight with actual resisting opponents. When you learn from Guro T.K. Nelson, there is no fluff. He teaches you to fight. It's all very useful, and they make the lessons a lot of fun! This place is great. Call them for a free trial class. It's free fun..:)
Andrew Barnes: I've been training at KSK for a little under three years (update, four years now) and I love it there. The teaching style is relaxed and supportive. I felt welcomed from day 1.At the school you can train in Kali (a Filipino weapons system), Kai-Shin Jeet Kune Do, and BJJ. The wide variety of techniques and approaches can be overwhelming at times. However, Kent Nelson breaks the material down into easily understood concepts, and then teaches how to apply them in both traditional and non traditional situations (ex. Using hand trapping as part of your grappling game). To summarize, I would recommend KSK Martial arts for the following reasons1. Excellent instruction2. Exposure to multiple styles, and learn how to combine in the that best suits you3. It's fun. The laid back atmosphere and friendly people.
Katie Hammond: Great place to try martial arts or to continue. Everyone is so willing to teach and Guro Kent is a fantastic instructor. Also, it's an excellent workout!
gayam sandeep reddy: They are not refunding my money. I have called them about 3 times now and every time the receptionist answers and informs that they can’t talk at the moment and will give a call back. The call back never came.
bonnie britt: I found KSK because I wanted to learn self defense. I wanted to have confidence in my ability to defend myself. From the moment I walked into KSK I felt welcomed and safe! I have been at KSK for about a year now and I have never felt unsafe while training. It was never my plan to be here this long, I just wanted to learn a few self defense moves and then be on my way. But life has a way of turning your course and I found myself not only loving the training, but becoming a part of a new family. I have never been made fun of or put down if I am not at a set level or if I am struggling with a new skill. The instructors are patient and help you fit the new skill to your abilities. One of the things I love the most about KSK is that everyone there really and truly cares for one another. Guro Kent has been amazing and cares about you as a person and not just when you step onto the mats. Whether you want to train in martial arts, improve your health, or just want to learn to defend yourself, the KSK family is waiting for you!
Mei Bresnahan: Great martial arts school. The instructors are friendly and knowledgeable. They teach fighting styles and techniques in great depth, while also connecting different elements together. Students also learn the advantages and disadvantages of various moves, and how to adapt to the situation. Lessons can be large, but guru Kent is able to maintain high quality instruction and offer multiple levels of instruction at a time. Finally, the school has a welcoming atmosphere and utilizes safe practice methods. It IS possible to learn without breaking bones!PS teach has a swag beard
Kenneth Schafer: I have worked as an LEO for approximately 1 year. During the academy, I began considering martial arts. As I graduated the academy, I knew it was time to choose a school. KSK stuck out because of Guru Kent's work with the Michigan Sheriff's Association. I decided to try KSK and knew I made the right decision when I took my trial class.Guru Kent is very knowledgeable and passionate in his trade. The classes are well planned and they are fun. Guru Kent has several associate instructors, so there is never a time where we do not have someone at the school to teach class.Guru Kent teaches five main areas in class, striking, clinching, trapping, manipulation and grappling. While all five are important, I can recall several times where clinching has been a necessity in my field. Without my training at KSK, I would not have known how to react when the opportunity presented itself.I would recommend this school to anyone, LEO or civilian.
Lexie Roberts: I have trained at KSK Martial Arts for a number of years. Even though as a young woman I was often in the minority (most of the members are men), I always felt very welcome and safe. Everyone who trains at KSK is welcoming and supportive of each other member. Guro Kent, the main instructor at KSK, especially makes sure all members and visitors alike feel welcome, learn real, applicable self-defense techniques, and have a great time. I would definitely recommend this training studio to anyone looking to learn real self-defense techniques or just meet some truly awesome and fun people. The only reason I don't train here anymore is because I moved away to college!
Russell Kranz: My kid has been going to KSK for four years now. He has grown and enjoys going to class every week. KSK is a great atmosphere and helps build self confidence.
Gus Davidsen: KSK is a welcoming and positive environment to train martial arts regardless of age, skill level or your particular goals. Guro Kent has created a truly awesome curriculum that is not only valuable but fun. The instructor staff is knowledgeable and speculatively have lifetimes of cumulative experience, a couple might be wizards. The best part is the people you get to train with, a great group who are gonna get better by making you better and keeping things safe. Come....Train with me.

Chung's Taekwondo and Martial Arts USA: what do users think?
Sean Valles: We have had an excellent experience here. It is well-run, reasonably priced, and it has the best pandemic safety policies of any business I've encountered.
Jimmy Hutchful: Master Chung is a funny and skilled instructor. He is very passionate about class and has a range of students who are at different levels and belts.I also really found a great community here with a diverse class, really cool black belts who support you ! (shoutout to Mariah ).
Naomi G: It's been wonderful watching my child's self-esteem and confidence grow in this environment. Master Chung is fantastic.
Jesse Avendano: Master Chung's Taekwondo school is fantastic. I'd been looking for a place to get back into martial arts because I missed the physical activity and needed to back into shape. But with Covid there were obviously safety concerns and I didn't know if it was even possible to find somewhere that had decent safety measures. But I was blown away by how well Master Chung's school handled the Covid precautions, everyone gets their temperature taken at the door then sanitizes their hands and feet before stepping onto the mat and everyone wears Kn95s. So you do feel safe practicing at master Chung's.The workouts themselves will push you to your limits, in a good way, the other students are very welcoming, every practice session is a little different so it doesn't feel monotonous when you're there. Master Chung manages to balance instilling discipline and focus within his students, with a sense of humor. I've been to a few different martial arts schools and sometimes you can get a superficial feel from the school and the master, but master Chung is definitely not that. When you watch him demonstrate a move or something it's clear that he's been practicing everyday, for years and that's encouraging. I can't say enough good things about the school and master Chung.
keontré Hughes: I had debated doing martial arts for a long time, and have dabbled elsewhere, but not until I started at Master Chung’s have I immediately felt such a sense of community and dedication, both amidst the other students and from Master himself.I have spent my entire life in athletics championships ranging from kindergarten to D1, but rarely have I done something that can bring me to the peak of exhaustion and simultaneously make me want to drill even harder (for my own benefit).
Noor Al Haidari: Master chung is literally the best. He’s really cool, respectful, funny, and will always push you to be better.
JANNA: My first day meeting Mr Chung, he is awesome! I love the respect he commands from the children, always encouraging a " yes sir!" From his students, Something alot of our children lack here in America....respecting adults- I personally have been trying to get my son to say " yes ma'am " for the past 5 years! To hear him saying yes Sir , during his first class tickled me lol. I told him " see, I wasn't wrong." Lol. Anyway my son had a blast, the atmosphere was nice and the other students were so polite and encouraging to other students. Mr Chung gave my son a pop quiz so to speak asking him geography questions out loud, and my son didn't know the answers- I love his style, in the car my son said " I should study some more geography " lol. All in all, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Chung's Taekwondo...
Gowri Suryadevara: Master Chung is cool. He is accommodating and pushes you to get better. He also provides examples of being a martial artist. His classes helped me grow physically and mentally strong. I will recommend his classes to anyone interested in martial arts.
MJ Jones: My child has an endless energy supply with a backup generator; with that, the attention of a goldfish. I was also nervous as she's never been in any kind of formal class setting. Master Chung assured us I didn't need to be nervous that she wasn't ready. It's been 5 months. She has more respect for others and her listening skills are waaaaaayy better. You also don't get the feeling here that your kids are a number. Master Chung knows each student and parent. He shows both parents and students the same respect. He's firm, he doesn't "play" but he let's the kids know they matter to him/ he cares.I beyond recommend his dojang. I'm excited to see my daughter continue to grow with his program.
cameron wadle: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueMaster Chung’s Dojang is impeccably clean, well run, and a great location for college students. Master Chung is very knowledgeable, kind, and assertive. The health and safety standards are top notch.
Drake ????: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality
Tania Akhter: I recently joined Chung's Taekwondo and I love every bit of it. Joining martial arts class has helped me release the stress I've been getting from my personal and school life. I'm so glad I decided to join his class.사랑해요 Master Chung!!💛
Ruchira Singh: Positive:Quality
Matt Eagleson: Positive:Professionalism,QualityHave been doing lessons with my son for 2+ years. Great place to learn Taekwondo from a person who honestly cares about his students.
connor smith: I've been going to Master Chung's adult Taekwondo since February and have loved going ever since. It's a fantastic place if you are looking for exercise and to learn a new skill in the process. Master Chung's enthusiasm each and every class makes it a great place to learn.
Xu Peng: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueMaster Chung is a great teacher. I have done Taekwondo for almost 4 years and learned a lot from him. Master Chung teaches us discipline, the tenets of Taekwondo and how to be more confident -Jordan
Karen Park: Master Chung is an excellent Takwondo teacher. He cares for kids, and loves to joke around. He is a serious about teaching but make it fun to learn. I am highly recommending him.
Natalie Draper: I recently joined Master Chung's kickboxing class and love it! Master Chung is kind and a wonderful teacher. He also pushes you in a positive way to do your best and try new things. He has been very innovative with online and in-person classes and ways to still workout despite the pandemic. He really wants each student to succeed and is a positive role model for kids and adults. I am very glad I joined!
Anjali Sardar: I have studied under Master Chung for about five years. In addition to Taekwondo, students will learn discipline, respect, and the Tenants of Taekwondo: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. Master Chung takes the time to get to know each of his students individually and offer them guidance on the sport, as well as advice for life. The workouts during the class are tough, but bring great results. The students and instructors in all of the classes form an incredible, positive, supportive community. Overall, training at Chung's Taekwondo is a wonderful experience, and I would highly recommend it.
deef dragon: Master Chung is an amazing teacher, knowledgeable, and always looking to make sure that his students are attending classes and actually learning. For new students, he makes sure that they are able to catch up in both skill and physical health, helping them to tune the class to fit their needs.Unfortunately, AMSEpay, the company he works with/for is Terrible. Until such a time as he is no longer working with AMS, I would recommend against signing up for his classes.
