Lake St. Clair Sailing School: what do users think?
Bob Bruce: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityJust had a very pleasant sailing experience with Captain Anne and company. Got a great sunset in and a nice time. The crew was very professional and made sure we were comfortable and safe.
Shanaya Johnson: Positive:QualityHad a wonderful time sailing for the first time. Service highly recommended.
Sarah Adair: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueWe went out for a sail on a Friday evening. It was such a good time. Fun company, a beautiful sailboat, and lake St Clair. I’d highly recommend it!
Laura Rothkopf OGrady: I've had a wonderful experience with Lake St. Clair Sailing School. I started out as a nervous sailor. All of Lake St. Clair Sailing School's instructors were patient, encouraging, and very skilled. As a result, sailing has become one of my favorite past times. I also love that instruction takes place on a 30 ft. boat, so you are learning on a boat that would actually be used for open-water sailing.
Scott Walter: We picked out this school after researching and talking to several in the Detroit area. One important difference to us was that Lake St Clair Sailing School offers evening sailing to strength your skills at a very reasonable rate. We are a group of four and just completed the ASA 101 class in their 30 foot Catalina. What a great experience. Can't say enough about Captain Jim. He made us feel comfortable and created a fun experience while learning all of the necessary skills. We all decided that we are taking the next class, ASA 103 with Captain Jim as well.

Halcyon Sailing: what do users think?
G CV: I took the 101 course and had a great experience, Bill took the time to get you firmly grounded in the course materials and put everything into practice.
Danny Michelin: Great sunset tour
Kyle Hamilton: We had a fantastic time taking our ASA 101 sailing class with Bill! He was super friendly, very patient, and a blast to be around. One of the great benefits was that Bill does smaller classes (just the two of us!), ensuring that folks really get time to practice during the lessons. Really can't say enough positive things about our class -- look no further if you're searching for an instructor!
Scott Deng: My brother and I just completed the ASA 101 course with Captain Bill and Halcyon Sailing, we both learned a great deal and started gaining much more comfort sailing during the course. Bill was very knowledgeable and you could tell he enjoyed teaching the material. I'd highly recommend Halcyon Sailing for ASA certifications as well as a sunset charter. Bill's Catalina 30 is beautiful and is perfect for a small group. Overall a great experience.
David Roman: I took ASA 101 with Captain Bill. It was a fantastic course. Bill is extremely knowledgeable and personable. When you think of someone that SHOULD be teaching / instructing you're picturing Bill. If you have an interest in sailing, sign up and take the ASA 101 class. You'll learn a ton and likely fall in love with sailing!
Emily Herreshoff: We just completed the 101 course with Captain Bill, he was an excellent teacher, making sure we understood everything. Super nice and friendly, easy to work with. I would highly recommend him for anyone who is interested in learning to sail.
E W: I completed ASA 101 with Capt. Bill on 6/9/2019. What a great experience it was in every way. I had some prior sailing skills but the other student on board was brand new to sailing and I was extremely impressed with how Bill taught the course. He is simply a very nice person to spend time with but also is an extremely patient and confident skipper. The boat is very well set up and clean. The first day we were out the wind was blowing pretty hard and the early adjustments that the Captain had us put into the rigging made for a very safe and fun day. I am planning on taking more ASA courses in the near future and there is no question in my mind who I want to take those classes with. If I could give more stars to this review I would. I strongly recommend Halcyon Sailing to anyone considering learning to sail or just wanting to brush up on their current skills.Thank you very much, Captain Bill!
Greg Thomasson: My wife and I took ASA101 with Bill and he was an awesome teacher and a great guy.The course was great and his boat is very very nice. It's large enough to get a feel for a true yacht but easily manageable for novices like my wife and I to handle (with Captain Bill watching over us).We had a great 2 day course.I would absolutely recommend him to anyone. One piece of advice to those that are planning to go out, come prepared for all weather, packing an extra jacket/rain gear is not wasted effort. There is plenty of space to stow an extra set of cold/rain gear inside the cabin.
Scott Lange: I already had some sailing experience, but learned a TON from Bill. He very quickly adapted his curriculum and focused on filling the gaps between the things I knew already. I enjoyed my time sailing on Halcyon and look forward to signing up for more ASA classes with Bill. If you're looking to get into sailing, and are seeking a patient, well-informed instructor, then you've found the right school.
