I knew from my research that the transaction qualified as an IRS exemption, but did not understand it still needed to be reported on my taxesBecause it was not reported, based on correspondence from the IRS I faced a possible payment of almost $140,000!!My action -I reached out to the well advertised Optima Tax Solution and paid the initial $95 for them to 'investigate' my case. I was in terror after speaking with them and being told I was in danger of having the IRS win if I went to Tax Court, my social security and other assets taken from me and my income garnished.They, however would do their best not to have this happen if I paid them $14,900 for a process they said could take possibly six to nine months.I asked for a detailed invoice that would detail the $14,900 payment and was told they could not provide that; but it effectively represented all the individuals that would be working on my behalf and the lengthy time they would have to spend.I could not understand, and they could not explain - if I am correct and the transaction is excluded, why can't you just show that to the IRS; and if I owe them nothing, what justifies six to nine months of activity and a payment of $14,900?It made no sense to me.My response -Forced to explore other options,I shared my plight with a friend who had undergone a tax audit and was well represented by Levy & Associates.Faced with a May 1 Tax Court date and the untenable option of paying Optima $14,900, I made an appointment and went in and met with the Office Manager, Lance.He was straightforward, honest, and importantly, didn't employ any of the fear tactics I experienced with the other firm's hard sell.Lance laid out their plan of action, who would be involved and their roles, an expected time table, expected results, and what could offset their intended outcome.After hearing his detailed explanation of the work they would do, his honest answers to all my many questions, and a service fee that was close to 1/4th of the fee Optima was charging, I decided to put my fate in their hands.My ending -It's only been about 1 month since I signed up with Levy & Associates. Lance just called to tell me to expect a letter from the IRS confirming I owed them nothing, and the case was closed out.Truly a 5 Star experience with a 5 Star company!!
