Michael Williams: Right when the pandemic began and everything was up in the air, I miraculously convinced my wife to buy a boat. We couldn’t travel around and get the hands on experience at dealerships and inventory was getting thin. I was living in Austin TX so naturally, I called Grande Point in MI and within two conversations bought a boat. Living 2,000 miles away from a dealership poses some challenges especially when it comes to accountability. When my boat arrived, the first impression was that everything was immaculate except a missing front seat and weirdly, a plate on the steering wheel.At this point they had their money and could have written me off. What could I do halfway across the country?What Jay from the service department did was send me new parts, totaling over $1000, to make up for missing parts that were advertised on their website. All I can say is that they went out of their way to make me whole when most businesses would have given me the run around. I think that says a lot about their character and I hope they continue doing right by their customers.

From the first sales person we met, to the manager of the dealership, to the technician who went out of his way to make sure we avoided a problem he had on his personal boat. The experience of buying from them was seamless, and the after purchase support was consistent and responsive. The technician drove me in his personal truck to his personal boat and spent 20 minutes in the rain showing me what I needed to know. The manager was efficient with communications and responsive. John Reineke: Terrible to work with!! The salesperson I was trying to work with didn't follow up or respond to emails or text messages. I spoke with the owner at the boat show, he assured me the salesperson would respond. Guess what, the salesperson did not respond. I called again, the salesperson said he would get the requested answer and call me back... he never did. This went on for three months. If they don't respond when trying to buy a boat, I can only imagine how terrible they'd be when needing service.

Jennifer Spiga: Steer clear of this dealer! They lie to make the sale, then once you sign, forget about customer service. They don’t care! Almost a year later and we still don’t have the replacement for the damaged items from before we took delivery.We’ve had numerous problems with our boat since delivery due to poor workmanship by the manufacturer, and then poor workmanship by Sunsport to “fix” the issues. If we’re fortunate enough to get a return phone call, all we hear are empty promises. Trust me when I tell you, do not trust this dealership! We regret the day we walked in and fell victim to their sales techniques!

Michael Alexander: Disclaimer: I've had one interaction with them - a repair on my Chaparral sport cruiser, so I might update this review later.What I had done: diagnose and repair a no-start condition of the port engine on my Chaparral.Skill: the no-start condition was a caused my multiple factors, the starting with fuel starvation to the fuel pumps caused by internal blistering of a fuel hose. It took some time and effort, but the technician identified the feed hose issue and even discovered a Chaparral build issue with one of the fuel pick-ups. Rating: 5 stars.Quality: the boat was left in the condition it was prior to their work, the workmanship of the repair looks solid and the boat passed a high-speed test with flying colors. Rating: 5 starsTimeliness: Sun Sport started working on the boat a week later than they originally stated and seemed to struggle a little to return to the boat for the multiple diagnostic and repair sessions. I'm going to give them 4 stars because they could have communicated with me a little more effectively than they did but, relative to every other Lake St. Clair boat-related business, their timeliness wasn't bad considering this occurred during what is probably their seasonal peak. Rating: 4 stars.Summary: getting almost anything done to your boat in the LSC area sucks - no-one does anything when they say they're going to, the quality is wildly variable and some businesses engage in obvious 'bait and switch' pricing. My experience with Sun Sport was highly satisfactory, even by automotive repair standards, and I wouldn't hesitate to work with them again or recommend them to others.
