Birthing Center - Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital: what do users think?
Iohla Conway: Poked 5x preparing for C-section smh anesthesia experience terrible staff...uum soso... wasn't pleased with room left there sick smh bad cold after having a baby felt terrible for 3 long days at home smh...no response to letter written to hospital.
Lisa Belden: Inside the main hospital. I just went to use the ATM
Nathan Greer: Disgusting horrible bedside manor "with most not all" cleanliness was horrible I had to ask a nurse to pickup a dirty open needle on the floor it's crazy how nasty some of the hospitals really are .....
Jerrel Lewis: Horrible hospital. Went to emergency and the Dr was weird and creepy and diagnosed me with “Colitis” a viral infection and told me it was nothing they could do. A month later. Come to find out my gallbladder was shot. Had to go to a Henry Ford to find that out. Not to mention my weddings in 6 weeks and I had to have emergency surgery and Ascension sent me home with Tylenol. What a joke of a hospital! Stay away
Afjal Hussain: My cousin worked there for a few months, and the workers and manager were really unpleasant, and everyone did whatever they wanted. Manager wasn't a manager at all. He or she was basically telling others what to do and acting more like a friend than a manager. He or she also has own favorites. So, if you wish to work or be seen at this facility, I would advise against it. I strongly advise against it.
Angi Smith: Keep your loved ones far from here. They told my grandmother she was perfectly fine 2 days ago..she died today due to hospital neglect. They don't care about you here. Disturbingly careless staff and doctors. Run far away from them
Musleh Uddin: Simply the worst hospital ever. Never come here.
Yon Broda: Worst hospital ever, and I was born here! Everytime I go without fail they take 6 hours for the entire visit, I've sat next to a man that had his femur sticking out that was waiting for 15 minutes before I got in and he still didn't get to go in the back for another 15. Please if you value your life and it's an actual emergency don't go here, you'll die
Benjamin Lobur: Not very fast
Kathy Pallarito: This hospital and its medical staff killed my husband with their negligence, incompetence and carelessness. Voicing my concern to Margaret White in Patient Relations, she told me that my husband wasn't the only person to die of Covid, she has the compassion of a rattlesnake! Out of 5 stars, this hospital rates a 1.8, my dog's veterinarian has a rating of 4.5! This hospital has had a bad reputation for patient care going back to when it was known as South Macomb.
Simon: Dr Fishman is the man.
Katie Wallace: WORST EMERGENCY ROOM EVER. Waited over 4 hours until I finally threw in the towel and left. Many others had been waiting much longer and just as angry. My whole right side of my stomach is inflamed and sore to the touch. Guess I’ll have to take my chances because there’s absolutely no chance in receiving help at this hospital . Never never again.
sarkar sayem: I wish I could give -10 if possible. Worst hospital system ever. Their behavior is very unprofessional and they no transparency at all. If you want your relatives to die, bring them here.
Harun Ali: My dad admitted for stomick pain and they waching him four days, there is no change about my dad health and getting worse his pain . After that I dicided to change hospital and move to Troy Beaumont . Sorry to say that please avoid this hospital and 00000 star for there service .one of the worse hospital in MI ...
George Matus: I highly recommend staying away from this hospital. They charge 10x what they should for items and refuse to work with you at all financially. They also force their religious views on you with morning prayers over the speakers, parking spots for clergy instead of pregnant women, and limit what doctors associated with the hospital can do for patients. Many doctors here are rude and condescending to their co-workers and patients.
andrea kenealy: I gave birth July 8 2020 to a beautiful perfect baby girl. I had gone in because of preclampsia. It was the most terrifying experience HOWEVER the staff was AMAZING. More than amazing really. All the nurses and doctors- Papple, Barcardi, Kassab, Tumaneng, and all the nurses. Edie the nurse was the one who helped during my crazy labor- I had a team- but she let me squeeze her hand. I can’t say enough amazing things. I love all of you and am extremely grateful.
Bobby McCarthy: Awful "hospital". Medical care is lacking, actual doctors aren't here, they ordered a CT scan, after over 3 hours of waiting, we're about to leave. Tomorrow, we're going to Henry Ford. Never again will we come to this place.
dorothy shader: Cameron, ER resident was the nicest, most caring person when my sister was in the ER.Will make a wonderful doctor. St. John Macomb has the nicest, caring staff of doctors, nurses, staff, and although they're under a lot of pressure, positive and your not just a patient to them like many hospitals. Your a person first. During one of the most difficul times of my life this past week with my sisters diagnosis, she has nothing but good things to say about the staff. Me too, thank you St. John Macomb!! This isn't the birthing center ER, don't know how it got listed here. Regular ER
Cesar Torres: Great nurses and doctors. Thanks for helping me
Humayun Rashid: The nurse name 'Kelsey' is just a great nurse and a good human being! My brother Hassan Rashid hospitalized due to bad epilepsy seizure. He has mental disability but the Nurse kelsey gave a great care to him. She tried to understand my brother's immature and disabled behavior by talking with me so that she could get him and give him a good care. She communicated with family and try to gather information about his behavior so that she could give him proper care. She was very conscious about the feeding of my brother because my mentally disabled are not able to communicate and he has language barrier too. Kelsey tried to feed him on proper time, game him extraordinary care. I am so grateful to get her as my brothers nurse for two day time shifts. She is just awesome! Kelsey, thank you for everything you did!
Ron A: Went to er talked to a doctor for a total of 30 seconds. They gave me wrong diagnosis and charged me over 5 grand to just tell me to see a urologist

Nine Short Months Birth And Community Wellness Center: what do users think?
Megan Shurlow: I could not have asked for a better pregnancy and birth experience than with Nine Short Months. Crystal was with me my entire pregnancy and attended the birth. Pregnancy appointments were non-invasive, totally respectful, and in a comfortable setting. My birth experience was nothing short of amazing: I was able to labour with very minimal interruptions or checks by Crystal or the other attending midwives, and in the birthing pool as I had wished. Everything post-birth was slow and calm, giving us plenty of time to bond, relax, and recover. Cannot say enough good things!
Megan Blackmer: My experience here was wonderful and looking forward to my second! Crystal and the assistants here are always kind and responsive/respectful of my needs and questions. During my birth, they went above and beyond to make my experience a pleasant one, and to help me feel confident and comfortable with them and in my ability to birth my baby. Definitely will continue to recommend NSM to my friends in the area :) Compared to many hospital births I attended before having my daughter, using NSM was a homey, comfortable experience with much attention given to making sure I was making informed decisions and that my birth experience was the best it could be.
Megan Osborne: I rave about my experience here to everyone who asks about my birth! Have recommended to several friends. Love everyone who has worked with me and the atmosphere of the center.
Brendan Blackmer: Highly recommend. Great experience for my wife's birth. Crystal and Lydia made a great birth team and we couldn't have been happier.
Emily Bizon: These ladies are absolutely amazing! They provided individualized care to us that was just what we hoped for in a birth center environment. At each appointment we never felt rushed, and all of our questions were answered with evidence-based research. The team is so compassionate, and strong. During labor, they stayed with our little family from transition onward, and really aided in coaching during my pushing phase, which I -in particular- found to be the most difficult/exhausting part of birth. They knew just what I needed and came to the rescue! Our girl was born on Christmas Eve, and the experience was magical. Nine short months is helping in every way they can with our recovery as well, and the newborn screenings. I highly recommend meeting with this wonderful group if you’re interested in pursuing a natural childbirth.Edit added 8/11/22:I had my second birth at the center on 8/8 and it was fantastic! Crystal, Lydia, and Savannah (doula) were amazing. They listened to what I wanted/needed and were so helpful during the pushing phase, which is most difficult for me, offering counter pressure, coaching and positive reassurance. Thanks for ALL of your care, ladies, I will always recommend this practice highly! Nine short months is the best.
Brittany Daniels: I loved the midwife I had (I think her name was Kristin) but unfortunately, when I had my child, it was at the very begininning of covid, so she got trapped in, lockdown, in another country. The head midwife left after a little while because "her shift was over."maybe a revision of things, should be taken into consideration? When building tours are given, you should have ALL staff there, to meet with people because I definitely did not appreciate being left, to give birth, with a midwife I had never met before. Please also consider getting heaters, or something, for your tubs because I did not enjoy sitting in that cold tub. Please also consider the woman and her feelings. I did not like having my bathroom door constantly opened while I was trying to use the toilet and then being told, "well you're about to have a baby in front of us." when I asked for privacy. I feel a little respect and bed side manner goes a long way. Please don't view this negatively. I really tried to review my negative experience, in a positive way hoping it helps your practice grow.
Jessica Thorpe: DO they take insurances to pay for the at-home birth? Looking asap
Erika Ahmad: Let’s just say their current practice manager is rude!!! Especially after my services did not go as planned and I admitted myself into triage because I felt something was not right! After multiple attempts of trying to have a conversation about their care and being avoided, she not only had an ugly attitude, she blamed ME for not informing them that my care was immediately transferred, (which was untrue) and was unprofessional yelling at me over the phone, and hung up on me! With her response of “you already signed a contract you knew what it was there are no refunds, have a good day!” So in any case, I guess it’s all about a dollar to them! Seek care else where! What horrible provider experience, I’m just thankful me and my baby are okay! Also all of these reviews are about “Wendy” who apparently isn’t even there at this time, which left The current “manager” who is unprofessional and uncaring to resolve issues. Sadly it’s not a REFUND THAT WAS ASKED FOR, but a conversation with my provider which was avoided for over a week, again, the CARE for the client…. Went out the window! But yes people should know their about the dollar at the end of the day and definitely don’t follow up with their client!
Jennifer Zatkin: As soon as I got pregnant with our second child, I knew I wanted a midwife. After interviewing a couple of different people I met Wendy. I knew the moment I walked into her office that it was where I was supposed to be. I give Nine Short Months a 10/10 glowing review. You will NOT regret having Wendy and her team at your birth.
Kaissa Moon: Wendy and her birth team are amazing. I would recommend Nine short Months to anyone looking for a home-like environment.
Lauren Gibbs: My husband, two sons and I are so thankful for the wonderful Nine Short Months Birth and Community Wellness Center team! Wendy and her team are absolutely outstanding in every way possible and I couldn't imagine anyone else assisting bringing my children into this world then them. Calm demeanors and gentle hands, I look back at my birth experiences as two of the most beautiful moments in my life.
Christopher Gibbs: Highly recommended. Wendy & team provided the birthing services for my two sons. The experience was exceptional, their attention to detail and understanding of the process encompasses you with confidence and comfort. They are very experienced and knowledgeable, they patiently answered all my questions and concerns unequivocally. A++
Andrea: I have known Wendy since 2010. She was my midwife for the home water births of my two daughters, one in 2011 and one in 2017, as well as the births of my two nieces. I cannot recommend her and her team at Nine Short Months enough! The new birth center is an amazing facility that offers mothers the opportunity to have the natural or water birth they have always wanted with all of the comforts of home. For anyone looking for a natural birth experience with an amazing midwife team in Southeast Michigan, this is your place!
Zeesy Silberberg: A wonderful midwife! I have the best memories of Wendys careful and thorough prenatal care. So so impressed that you have made this a reality!
Kristen Woudstra: Wendy was my childbirth educator with my first pregnancy. She taught a great class and I learned a lot, but the birth didn't go quite as I had expected. When I was in labor I swore that I would never have another baby in the hospital, and I'd never have another baby without Wendy. Luckily, by the time I was pregnant with my second child, Wendy had become a homebirth midwife. She was a perfect combination of attentive but not invasive, and my water birth was probably the coolest experience I've ever had. She is wonderful, her team is amazing, and the new birth center is lovely.
Sima Leah Duato: Wendy is a warm and instinctive practitioner who works hard to put her clients at ease, and help them find their best, healthiest self. Her new center is a wonderful space, furnished with love and passion for the women she works with and serves.
Carrie L: After interviewing more than a handful of midwives, Wendy was the obvious choice for our family's home birth. From prenatal to delivery to aftercare our experience was exactly what we needed. She handled our unique situation with what appeared to be ease. She was honest, passionate and dedicated, and I couldn't have done that pregnancy or home birth without her support and encouragement. Any person considering a home birth needs to meet with her. If she's not the right fit, she will be able recommend a midwife that could be. I can't say enough great things about Wendy Pinter - as a midwife and a genuine, hardworking human being.
Kristi Wells: Wendy and her team are supportive and knowledgeable. I would recommend them to anyone.
Jay M.: Wendy was great in all of our births. She has the perfect demeanor for what she does. She brings a calming but not flippant attitude that makes you feel like she is prepared and in control but not over bearing and is truly a support for the families she is helping. As a husband, she helped me relax and not be so nervous, so I was able to enjoy our births instead of worrying.
Amie Kuciban: I recommend Wendy to everyone I know! I can not say enough good things about her. Her calming presence and ability to adapt to any situation has been priceless for our family. Wendy is the best of the best!
Amanda Thero: We have been with Wendy for all 3 of our children's births, and we love her! When I got pregnant with my first child, I started off at an OB. My first several visits were bloodwork only and when I finally met the OB (several visits later), the appointment was only 10 minutes long! I knew there had to be something better out there and we found Nine Short Months after a little research. Wendy came out to our home to meet us and offered to find the baby's heartbeat. We felt so much peace after meeting her and loved her so much we cancelled our other interview (sorry, other midwife!). Since then we've successfully given birth at home 2 more times and have had the births of our dreams. Wendy takes the time to listen to any concerns you might have, empowers you, and encourages you to be confident and listen to your body. We were also given access to other services, such as a lactation consultant, which set us up for success with breastfeeding (my first 2 children nursed 2 years and I am 6 months in with the 3rd). I can't say this would have happened with a hospital birth, as I've watched so many friends give up instead of seeking help. Please consider giving birth with Wendy at Nine Short Months! You won't be sorry!

Ascension Providence Hospital Alternative Birthing Center: what do users think?
Kara Odom: I cannot fully express how amazing my experience was with the ABC. First off, the nurses are absolutely AMAZING. They were so hands on during my labor and did everything possible to be there for me and help with my pain. The midwives are also hands on and I’m so glad I chose them. This location is also really helpful being located inside a hospital for people like me who last minute *had* to be transferred for the birth due to complications but I was able to come back to my ABC room after for recovery which was very comforting. I highly recommend this birthing center if you’re looking for a natural birth or want to at least try! Because of the hands on care and mental push the nurses gave me I was able to handle 24 hours of labor in the ABC before needing to be transferred. Over all it’s such a caring atmosphere that you don’t want to leave.
Felicia P: I gave birth at ABC in 2014. It was the most incredible birthing experience. I highly suggest finding a midwife that understands you and your wishes. My partner wanted a hospital, I wanted a home birth, so we met in the middle at ABC. My midwife was INCREDIBLE! She knew that I am strong and independent, and basically left me to follow my instincts until it was time for birth. The rooms have dimmable lights, queen beds, jacuzzi tubs, full bathrooms with showers. I was able to make a playlist and hang my affirmations around the room. My midwife only did one check during labor. I know that isn't the norm, but the LAST position that I wanted to be in was on my back, that was excruciating. I was truly able to be on my own and listen to my body. She is the reason that I did not tear. I stopped pushing when she told me to, and birthed on all fours.I cried after my birth for all of the mothers that are robbed of having such a truly magical, empowering birthing experience.
Erika Crenshaw: I just had my first baby at ABC all of the nurses are awesome. My husband called ABC while I was laboring at home to see if it was time for me to come in they were very helpful. When we arrived at the hospital they were waiting to greet us. They explained everything to us. They were patient and caring I was able to have the birthing experience I wanted. I will be back in the future and will tell everyone I know about ABC.
Nikki: I will never be back here again. My goal for myself and baby was to have a peaceful low intervention natural birth. I received the total opposite here and I’m so disappointed because I thought they were good. The nurses intervened a lot during my labor and came in to check my blood pressure, baby’s heart beat, and my temperature probably 30-40 times during the time I was there. It was really putting me in an anxious mindset and did not let me focus on my birth. I was getting bombarded with questions and check ups. One of the nurses/doctors even insisted on internal fetal monitoring! I said no and they basically threatened me and said I needed it because the belt monitor was not doing it for me. I was so tired, mentally and physically exhausted, and so stressed during my labor. They did not let me birth in the position I want and insisted on their own positions that they thought were best for me. I did about 20 different positions, only to make things worse and stall my labor. I also had several nurses who could not get an IV in my arm and even popped one of my veins (I have never had that issue I have very good veins that stick out of my skin basically). The housekeeping was also a disaster. When I got back to my ABC room after labor and delivery, nothing was cleaned. Garbages were filled to the rim, sheets were not changed (the pee pads they had for me hours and hours ago were still on the bed, not changed), and my blood from earlier was also still on the floor and bathroom. They brought me, my husband, and baby back in that room. It was so uncomfortable and dirty. Overall, I planned for 9 months to have a peaceful, low-stress, low intervention labor and delivery, and instead—I received a gruesome long, stressful, anxious, and high intervention labor. The only good part was that I had my amazing doctor come there, who delivered my baby. This was truly traumatic and I’m sad since this was my first baby. I wanted to share this review for future moms looking to give birth here.
Madeline Freeman: I had both my babies at the ABC (in 2012 and 2015). I loved the experience. The rooms are cozy and accommodating. The midwives helped me find the right position for me to give birth in. I highly recommend the ABC for birthing without interventions.
claire cannon: I gave birth to my first baby at the ABC in February of 2021. I was looking for an experience where my wishes would be met and not challenged. When I found the ABC, they supported everything I wanted, didn’t push anything on me, and always made sure they had consent before moving forward. I wanted a hands off labor and birth and they completely respected that while supporting me at the same time! They really got to know me personally and I felt like they truly cared for my birth experience and me as a person. There are several midwives at the ABC and they ALL knew me. When I called up there during postpartum, they all knew my birth story even though they weren’t the ones who helped deliver my baby. They take a vested interest in there patients and I will forever be great for the amazing experience I had with them! I will absolutely be having another baby with this incredible team!
Metro Detroit Doula Services: The Alternative Birth Care Center at Ascension Providence is a hidden gem! The Midwives, Nurses, and Staff are so encouraging, knowledgeable, and supportive going above and beyond. If you are seeking autonomy, safety, respect, team work, and providers who trust in the birthing process, this is it. Always one of our top recommendations for families! Thank you for all you do and welcoming us to join you!
Liz Connolly: Recently gave birth to my first baby, and I cannot say enough great things about the ABC. I had a wonderful experience (as much as possible for labor and delivery), and it was all because of the nurses. I will be recommending this place/process to anyone that is interested in this type of birthing experience. Read through their website to get a little better understanding of this location, features, experience, and what permits/excludes you from delivering here. My husband is also on board that this was truly a better experience than either of us could imagine. Will definitely be returning for any future births in our future!
