PinetopJackson: Federal Mogul was a global auto parts supplier. They got famous for developing a innovative new way to manufacture engine bearings in the early 1900s. Now their former headquarters in east Detroit, as well as the surrounding residential neighborhood, is contaminated due to all the lead smelting from that process.In 1966 the company moved out, relocating their world headquarters to Southfield, Michigan. A couple other businesses used the property...another metals company, a trucking & distribution company...all before the report on lead contamination came out.The foundry was demolished in 1998, and the rest of the buildings were just left here to rot, decay, and be reclaimed by nature.
