Sportsmen's Dog Training Club of Detroit, Inc.: what do users think?
Barbara Murdock: I recently completed the beginner class with my three year old minilabradoodle Zivah. This was our first and only dog class that we’ve ever taken. This was all new to both Zivah and myself. Our instructor Suzanne along with Roxanne, Cindy and all the others that were there each week were absolutely fantastic!!! We had a wonderful experience and learned so much!! This is not just for puppies as Zivah is a little over three years old. Zivah exceeded in everything that she learned. And I learned so much too! She was a very nervous sweet puppy in the beginning weeks and at the end of the seven weeks she walked around with her tail high in the air. We had a wonderful class and it was a joy to be with other amazing puppy owners and puppies. We are so happy that we found Sportsmen’s Dog Training Club and can’t wait to start our next class!! We highly recommend this club to all our family and friends. Thanks again for such a great experience!!! You were all amazing and helped me so much with my very sweet and nervous three year old puppy. Dogs are never to old to learn!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! 💜🐶🐾 💜 Barb & Zivah
Abigail Bolen: Lovely establishment
Steven Jordano: Great people patient with old guy and crazy dog thanks
Zachariah Walker: Amazing trainers. Lilo is very happy with our classes, and will be coming back for Canine Good Citizen
Clarke Bonten: We took our 10 month old dog here for basic obedience and we’re very disappointed with both the trainer and the environment. There were multiple classes going on at the same time, with dogs yelping, whining and barking as well as trainers yelling. The trainers used harsh methods, and yelled at, hit, and popped the collars of dogs to get their attention. it seemed more like training through intimidation than through positive reinforcement. in addition, the trainer spent too much time talking and working with a select few dogs, leaving other dogs sitting and waiting for long periods— up to 20 minutes at a time out of an hour long class. lastly, she was disorganized, her pacing was slow, and on the final day of class she still did not even know our dog’s name. If you want a positive fun experience with your dog I would suggest going somewhere else.
Amanda Martinico: My dog and I had a scheduled assessment tonight from 7:30-8pm. We arrived early, around 7:15pm and waited for our appointment time. After about 15-20 minutes someone was kind enough to call the person we had the appointment with, turns out she is sick and someone else would be coming in her place. Ok, so we waited for that person. We waited over an hour. Nobody showed. This appointment was confirmed the day before via email. I understand things happen, people get sick, we would have had no problem rescheduling had someone reached out. What I do take issue with however, is the disregard and lack of respect for my time. We will be taking our business elsewhere.
Angela Moz: Great trainers and club for the dog enthusiasts!
Meghan Beaman: Got kicked out because my dog was scared and when the trainer touched him without warning he snapped. She said “he’s scared and doesn’t know me” and still aggravated him. Not 5 minutes before this happened another, smaller dog snapped at her with far less provocation and that dog got a muzzle, but my bigger dog got kicked out. I even asked why we couldn’t go with a muzzle and was ignored. They can say they aren’t prejudiced against pits, but the evidence speaks for itself. We already weren’t excited about some of the methods, we communicate with our dog constantly and they were telling us not to give commands he’d already learned without telling us the reasoning behind that. She literally told us to undo the training we’d already done with him. At least we got our refund in a timely manner.
Dime Abbott: Love this place! The owner is awesome.
J: Great place to train , great instructors in every class! I’m on my 3rd class, my husband is on his first class.
Ang G: We attended a puppy class and the online registration and payment was easily navigated. For the # of people and dogs there, this was well organized and efficiently ran. Staff was extremely helpful and pleasant. They keep the place clean. Classes are reasonably priced. Parking is tight and if you miss the turn you have to turn around as all the surrounding blocks are dead ends.
Marie Margaritis: This is the best and the oldest dog training club in Michigan! I have 2 show dogs (shih tzu) that I train here. They are the third and fourth dogs I’ve trained here. If you want to show your dog in confirmation, obedience, agility, or rally you should bring your dog here! I’ve had two dogs get their cgc title here as well.
Mary Peters: Great place to bring your dog for training; no-nonsense training for people who are serious about getting their dogs trained.Reasonable prices, and some classes are available on a walk-in basis, some with a punch card for savings. Conformation classes are walk-in, $10 per session, exact cash or check only.Facility is clean and free of dog urine odors; there is a nonslip covering on the floors.Main entrance is at the far end of the long side of the building (and parking lot).*** This is not a groomer! No grooming available. Google is misinformed on that.***
Bertram Smith: They're very supportive
Stacey Proctor: I've taken 3 classes and brought 2 different dogs to this facility for trainingGreat space, trainers truly love and care about dogs. Highly suggest the trick dog class and the puppy kindergarten. My only disappointment is that there's no time allowed for puppy socialization or playtime due to liability/insurance reasons I was told.
Alex Page: I have been to so many different dog training facilities in the southeast Michigan area and Sportsmans is definitely the best. They help you by teaching you how to train your dog and strengthen your relationship. Cathi Winkles has been my teacher for a few months now and she always brings something new to the table and is so helpful. Super glad I found this place 🙌
Mary Goff: Knowledgeable trainers. Signed up to take our new pup in November. Have been to many fun matches there.
Harry Grongstad: Went with my dog to the STAR puppy training. It was fun and they do a good job introducing dogs and handlers to the training program(s)
Jan Leverenz: Trained here for years. Great instructors.
Laura Breault: I too my dog there and they were wonderful. I was in the hospital and after I got out I had to reschedule my next class for my puppy and they worked with me to reschedule. Then I broke my wrist 4 days after getting out of the hospital and they rescheduled me again. Very nice people. I worked with Barb.
Raissa Hinman: Don't know.... haven't been there in almost a year
