Dorsey College - Madison Heights, MI Campus (EMS Building): what do users think?
Courtney Rafferty: Was a student for EMT, Medic, and Instructor Coordinator. Had a wonderful experience with wonderful instructors! Their new program set up is phenomenal, along with the new manikins makes scenarios so much more realistic!
Ted Markey: Go dorsey raw dogs!!!!
Travis: This is regarding Dorsey's paramedic program that I recently graduated from. This program was absolutely horrible for me. Before the headache of COVID, they were extremely unorganized and unprofessional. I rarely had actual homework, and most of the lesson plan was given through pre-made slides. My original teacher, while they were there, was very helpful with what they were given. They did the best with what they had. However, we were barely given any lab time or hands on training. When this was brought up, often it was met by aggression or frustration from school staff and promises of "we will get to it". Clinicals were difficult to schedule because only one person in the front office actually answers emails, who was part-time and has since quit the school. Also, another supervisor at the school has bad blood with certain clinical sites and made it extra difficult to sign up at these sites. Both my teacher and program director were fired by the school for different reasons, and the replacements we were given did not care one ounce about our class. Emails went weeks or months without being answered. This is before March, when the lock down started. Emails regarding licensing, when class was going to be held, clinicals, you name it. I would email once or twice a week for 3-4 weeks and get no acknowledgement, even if it was just to say they saw my questions. After the lockdown began, classes were sporadically unorganized. There was no plan on how to get us through effectively, and I only was able to get through by emailing other teachers and supervisors that people at my job were in class with. They held make-shift ACLS and PALS classes and then did not submit our certs for almost a year. The replacement teacher we were given was then temporarily laid off due to COVID and the fourth teacher we were given did not answer one phone call or email from me in 2 months. After completing the class and passing, it took over a month for the roster to be submitted to the state for NREMT testing.I did pass the program and NREMT on my first attempt, but I feel this was more due to the community College I attended a program at and failed years prior. I also spent most of my time in this program teaching myself from a book. What I mean to say is I learned more from a program I failed and reading a book by myself than I did in Dorsey's Paramedic program. If you have the money and time, I recommend taking your education to a community College and stop supporting these money hole trade programs.
Kaitlyn Schroeder: Staff was great both at the front at reception and with the testers. My instructor was very kind and gave great advice that I will use in the future. I completed the BLS course online then just came in to test and I was out in a total of 15 min. I've been getting my BLS cert every two years since 2012 and this is the best one I've done. Super great staff here :)
A P: The entire staff is focused on making sure you pass, and they'll always work with your schedule and finances to make things work.
Sue Cornell: I just completed the EMT Basic Program at Superior and really enjoyed my class. My classmates were supportive of each other and we received materials in the class to cover topics very thoroughly even above and beyond the textbook we had (the more sources of information, the better)! My instructor was awesome and really cares about her students. I would recommend Superior and I think most of my classmates would also! I read the first review and had the completely opposite experience. Lots of guesswork going on with "what others have done" when there are no facts or statistics to support those claims. Usually students who don't pass National Registry blame everyone else but themselves!

Emergency Medical Training Center LLC: what do users think?
Christian Donabedian: As someone who’s had many phenomenal instructors in the past whether was from search and rescue courses to other medical courses to mountaineering courses. I did my EMT-B and ACLS through James at EMTC and he standouts amongst the many previous instructors I’ve had in the past and is without a doubt one of my favorites. His knowledge and experience show in his teachings as they’re straight to the point and very clear all while being in a very laid back and relaxed environment. James willingness to answer just about every question under the sun and take the time to make sure you understand what is going on all the way from the start of your course till the day you take your national registry exam is something that is unique to EMTC, so If you are unsure and to where to take an EMT course I’d recommend no place other than at EMTC
Kara Kachaturoff: If you’re looking to take an EMT-B class, EMR, Or any kind of CPR class THIS IS THE PLACE TO DO IT! I had the absolute best experience ever at EMTC!! James is probably the most amazing EMT instructor that you can find in southeastern MI. If he still taught paramedic courses I would be coming back in the fall to take mine here. He has super high success rates and explains the material in such an easy to understand way. James is also a super approachable person for any questions or concerns you may have, and helps you through the entire licensing process from beginning to end. If I could give EMTC more than 5 stars I most definitely would!
Zavin Nazaretian: I’ve been a college professor for almost 10 years. As an educator I can tell you that James has a mastery of the subject material and is a fantastic lecturer. I really enjoyed our time together in class. This is the course you want to take to pass the NREMT!
Lamees Mekkaoui: Best place for BLS/ACLS/PALS renewal! Will never go anywhere else.
Alex Pankey: James is one of the best teachers I've had! Makes the class fun and always keeps it interesting. Very thorough in the bookwork to get you as prepared as possible for Registry.
Tanner Hodges: There are so many reasons why this place has a 5 star rating overall! James Bishop is beyond intelligent in this field and prepares you so well for the NREMT. If you need a place of study, to obtain your EMT license, I highly recommend EMTC!
Natalie Steele: James is an amazing instructor!!! I highly recommend this program if your looking to gain your EMT license. I used to be timid in school and didn't ask questions to help my understanding, but the environment in the class is very welcoming. James explains everything to comprehensible level, not only the textbook and assignments, but also just real-life setting questions. He also helps every step of the way when going through the entire licensing process from the national registry, application process, and ensuring we are squared away. If you are looking for a supportive environment and an instructor that genuinely cares about your success, then your in the right place and I urge you to sign up while spots are available!
Des E.S: Bishop is a phenomenal educator. Incredibly knowledgeable, kind, passionate and witty! He sees to it that most, if not all of his students are engaging during lectures and most definitely enjoyed listening to his stories about his time in the field. As someone who’s always been hard on themselves, Bishop and my fellow classmates has helped me tremendously not to be too hard on myself. He makes sure that his student are well-prepared when you take the NREMT and in the field.
Shane Bescoe: As someone with adhd it’s always been difficult for me to learn In a classroom environment, James is an excellent instructor before starting class I was suspicious of the amount good reviews compared to other ems schools, after taking the class I can confirm that they are legit the classroom lectures are engaging and actually enjoyable, I would also recommend this strongly for anyone who has social anxiety, through my entire class I have not once seen one student get treated poorly even if someone was falling behind and asked a really obvious question they would never get anything other than a genuine explanation and extra tlc, James will also add some things in the lecture that will go more in-depth than required and this is very helpful of you plan on becoming a medic, The NREMT is not a easy Exam by any means for most people and I took it and didn’t run into a single question that school didn’t prepare me for and passed on my first try.
Joseph Pratt: My experience taking the EMT-B course through EMTC was nothing short of flawless. James is an extraordinary instructor and extremely knowledgeable on each and every topic that we covered. He went out of his way to make sure every student felt included and was actually learning the material. Classroom discussion was always encouraged, but never demanded, making it suitable for all types of learners. No question was too dumb to ask, and he always made sure the content was clearly understood. I am an introvert, and I never felt uncomfortable in this class. James was always able to put a real-life, practical situation and apply it to the topic we were covering which made understanding content so much easier.I cannot praise the atmosphere of the class enough. Every student had a table with plenty of workspace and comfortable office chairs, there were always drinks and snacks available if wanted, and James always worked hard to make sure the room was clean before anyone arrived. We usually had a break every hour or so in-between chapters. This class was the best learning setting I ever experienced by far. It was just a very welcoming and relaxed environment, perfect for learning. The classroom is great, his instruction is great, but honestly the best part about the class was James’ determination to get you to pass that national registry exam and the effort he made to get you there. There was no shortage of words of encouragement and support. Towards the end of the course I was not confident that I was going to pass the final exam. James pushed me and helped me realize that I had the potential to achieve my goal, I just had to put in the work. I did, and as of a few days ago I passed the national registry exam. If you are looking for a program to take your EMT course, do not hesitate to take James’ class. I truly believe any who don't are missing out! It is the best around. James will put in the effort from day 1, if you do as well, you won’t have a problem passing his class. Thank you James!
Destiny Johnson: I enjoyed this class so much. James Bishop made sure that everyone felt comfortable and make our time worthwhile. He made sure that the content connected and that we were ready for each step of the process. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves! He could careless about the money, he truly loves this subject. I would recommend anyone to take any of this featured classes any day!
Dominik Qassis: Mr. Bishop is an outstanding instructor, he is a very personable teacher and will absolutely lead you to success. The class has a lot of information that needs to be retained in a short amount of time, but is presented perfectly. Mr. Bishop spends time making sure that no one is left behind, and goes above and beyond to ensure that each individual student is grasping the content of the class. The schedule of the class fully allows you time to efficiently learn, but also have ample free time outside of class. Throughout the course of the class Mr. Bishop takes the time to fully understand the needs of the students, and creates an environment that makes you excited to show up to learn. Overall I would say that you are missing an amazing opportunity to learn if you do not choose Emergency Medical Training Center for EMT training.
kia1 whitehead: Bishop is very informative and great customer service. Has a great passion for his work. I recommend coming here get your cpr certifications done.
Michael LaChance: I highly recommend taking EMT-B with James Bishop. He thoroughly explained everything and was a great instructor to have.
Teresa Rojo: I was very excited taking this class. The class is very challenging. Everyday is a new adventure in this class. The instructor is a seasoned paramedic with vast knowledge and information to tell you. When he tells you that you need to be in this book everyday and be on JB learning. He has your best interest in mind without these two things you will not survive this class. He will tell you over and over again " you guys got to read your book. Do JB learning." I had a lot of fun made some friends and learned a lot. All I can tell you is listen to James and he will guide you to your next adventure in your life. Good luck
Pablo Espinal: Absolutely fantastic. James is incredibly knowledgeable and has an excellent balance of book smarts and street smarts. He'll give it to you like it is, no bs. Incredibly respectful, kind, and helpful. Would absolutely recommend to anybody looking to start their career in EMS, there really is no better place. The classroom is incredibly comfortable and James puts the utmost effort into ensuring all his students feel heard and welcomed. Truly wish he still taught Advanced EMT and Paramedic.
Kayla Shearer: Very pleasant learning environment and amazing teaching! If you’re looking to go into this field I highly recommend going through here!
Logan Moskow: I had a great experience at Emergency Medical Training Center. In the EMT basic class we covered a lot of material in a short amount of time, but it was structured in a way that I was able to retain most of it. The Tuesday/Thursday schedule was a perfect fit for my family, work, life balance.James is a fantastic instructor who was always available & super friendly for questions etc. He definitely knows his stuff & teaches in a way that is easy to follow & entertaining. The class as a whole was laid back, friendly, and we shared a lot of laughs. The facilities at EMTC are the best I have encountered in my educational experience, we were provided with comfortable chairs, coffee, water, a vending machine, bathrooms, and most importantly the place was always spotless.Lastly I chose EMTC because it was very affordable, had flexible scheduling to choose from & when I called to inquire about classes I had a great conversation with James, he took the time to answer all of my questions & at the end of our conversation I could tell he was a good person.I left EMTC ready to take on my NREMT exam & was able to pass it on the first try a week after recieving my certificate from EMTC. I couldnt be more pleased with my experience. Anyone looking to become an EMT need not look anywhere else. Thanks a million EMTC!
Troy Cramer: At first I was hesitant to believe all of the 5 star reviews I read when I was signing up for the class, but once I finished the class and passed the registry, I realized all of the reviews were a perfect representation of how great this instructor is and how well he prepares you for the registry and the field.
Kris Shah: I had a great experience doing EMT-B here. James is a great instructor and gives you all the information you need to do well on the NREMT. He spends a lot of time making sure you’re ready for the exam and is always available to answer questions. I would highly recommend him.
Wendy: James is an amazing teacher who goes above and beyond to ensure you have the best chance of success. He gives you every tool in the arsenal. I really like that he doesn't sugar-coat things, and tells you straight from the beginning how everything is going to be. Very communicative and easily reachable in the event of an issue. Takes you from day one all the way to your license, answering literally every question along the way. As someone who has had many teachers for many different things, I can honestly say he is one of the best I've ever had. Would be worth every penny of his very reasonably priced course.
