Michigan Math and Science Academy Dequindre: what do users think?
Romero Jackie: it was great
erin ok: High school was a blast for me. My teachers are always helpful and we have a great learning community. Everybody is always cheerful and have a positive attitude every day.
Destiny Bragg: I am a student at MMSA, this school is very good and everybody has positive energy. Teachers here are very helpful and would like us to succeed.
Alfonso T.: As a former student going into my second year of college, i can look back at my time there and say that, overall, i enjoyed myself there. The work could be a little tough, but thankfully i had teachers like marbry, bowens, druzynski, amo, etc. who were great as long as you worked with them. Making good friends really helps with that, as well. As long as you put in the effort and stay committed, the place is not bad at all.
Christina Fowler: I LOVE MMSA! I am a proud cougar alumni. MMSA prepared me for amazing opportunities when I went to college. Ms. Bowens, the HS English teach did amazing things for me and I forever grateful!
Ke'Ara Pickett: My time at the school has been decent, its a little bit more fast paced but it has gotten me way farther ahead then I have ever been .I'm on my way to have a relaxing senior year. YAY!!!
Hyrunnisa: This is a great place to send your kids. The staff are very respectful and care a lot about the students. The classes are challanging and really helps them broaden their minds. They go above and beyond for my kids. If the kids need any help all they need to do is ask. There are lots of extra cirriculars, and extensive amount of science classes to choose from and plenty of opportuntiy for them to try something new and exciting. You won't regret sending your kids here.
Ve W: I went to MMSA for 9 years and I haven’t met better people and friends anywhere else. The teachers are great and expect the students to do their best but also helps them when they need it. Send your kids there!!!! It changed my life for the better, I’m going to college and without MMSA it would be a lot more difficult. They offer AP classes to get ahead of college and they help immensely. You/your child will be better off here, making lots of friends and learning. I’ve met friends who’s friendships will last a life time also by achieving academic excellence from help of the teachers and my friends.
Beautifully _Bonnie: Do not send your child/children to this school. The work is way to advanced for the students, yet they offer no help, no tutoring, nothing. They give the students the work and just expect them to know it. They offer no public transportation, but close the school for anything. I will not recommend this school to anyone.
Punkin: Please do not send your child here if they have a IEP the school is terrible Miss Jackson is terrible everyone that’s involved in a special education department my daughter been going here since the 6 gradeI’ll tell these teachers over and over so contact me if my child fall behind They have not this school is terrible It is called Michigan math and science academy and my daughters doing terrible in math . Her last year which is this year is the most worst year she have ever had every since they get a new resource teacher she have not had no type of improvement. Her other teacher Miss Thibodeau was amazing we was a team and there’s only one way street here now it’s not OK do your research talk to parents.
Fatima Adams: A very nice school
sarah s: I think because of last year during my junior year where we had to do online platform work , some of the teachers developed laziness and simply just don’t enforce rules in the classroom to keep the class from slacking since all they did last year was let a poor “learning platform” do everything for them and a lot of students even the ones who actually academically do well struggled, including myself. The work load we would get was never fair especially since nobody would explain it to us and we had to work it out on our own, with the poor examples and explanations from that online platform we did our work on.
Troy Andrade: Horrible school. I went here from 8th grade to 10th grade and left in June 2020. The school was horrible, I was constantly stressed out extremely bad. I struggled with anxiety and depression and this school helped make it worse. Way worse. I even had to leave early a few times because I hated it so much. The teachers were never helpful and I was left to fend for myself. I learn different than most students and teachers refused to help me understand unless I got diagnosed with a learning disability, absolutely stupid. I left and did an online school for a year and I am now finishing my senior year in a much much better school in Troy. Leaving this school helped so much and I recommend anyone struggling to leave immediately.
nina blank: This school is horrible. I have been trying to register my son for the past 3 weeks and the hold up is due to missing paperwork I provided in person. I have been given the run around almost every day, promised return phone calls are not returned, and I have been calling everyday several times with no resolution. My student is special needs so the importance of him being enrolled is top priority. I think I will be reporting this school to the board of education. SHAME ON YOU!! for denying and delaying an education to a special needs student.
caleshambentley: This school is the worse to enroll a child.. because of covid they are not understanding of places being closed to even enroll children properly. Then when a child is enrolled they will call you to say the unenrolled your child because by law they dont have to accept them at age 4! Thinking to have both my children at one school but will be taking both my children elsewhere!
addie collins: Some of the teachers need to work on their attitudes and the staff should to try better to point out the bigger issues instead of complaining about hoodies and phones.
Lamarr Martin: The kindergarten staff members buza picks on Students and bothers them like a creep
alex :p: It’s all good except the fact that a teacher named mr collings is never at his office.
yin min: This school is honestly the worst choice that is out there. If you look at the reviews below, you might assume this school is the best choice out there. Please DO NOT believe what the reviews say, they are all false and were written to win a TV but, I will explain that later. Let me get this straight, the staff does not care about the students, instead they are very petty over students standing up in the canteen. There was a situation where a student threw hot food on four other students. Even though the victims were injured and in serious pain, the staff member did not do anything to help the students nor, tell the culprit to apologize to the students. In this case it shows that the staff does not care for their student's health. Next, there is the issue where the school does not focus on the student population at large, students bring in drugs and smoke in class without the teachers noticing or even caring. One thing I really dislike about this school, is that they bribed the students and their parents to write good reports on this school just to win that award, in exchange they put everyone in a raffle for a TV. It disgusts me on how instead of actually making the school a better place. They bribe the whole MMSA community to win an award that they do not deserve. Who would you trust to care for your child when their teacher is not there? Another teacher? No, a substitute. However, the school hires the worst people to work in as a substitute, there were many cases where the teacher would randomly shout at the students for simply sneezing. There was also a case where a substitute left a whole middle school class by themselves for an hour, do you honestly think they would behave without a teacher there? I think not, two students suddenly fought in the class and multiple students from other classes came into the classroom as well. The teachers are the main focus as well. I would say that there is a 5% chance that your child will end up with a good teacher. Mrs. Phillips, Mr. Cakir, Mr. Chasney, Mr. Druzynski, Mrs. Fatahu, and Mr. McLeod. Although, they are most likely to get their education from a teacher that does not care for the student's education. One teacher in particular was by far the most pettiest and worst teacher that works there. She only relied on the answer key and the students had to correct her multiple times. Also, how do you misspell your own subject? The main highlight that I will point out is that the Principal wastes the money the school receives on unnecessary things such as billboards, coupons and basic advertisement to bring people to this school when, the desks are broken, the floors are always dirty and unsanitary. The school cannot provide the best for the students at all, public schools are much better than this school. As a fellow student, I believe that if you can send your child to a different school, you should take that option rather than sending them to an unsafe school.
EmanoN 1: I’ve only been here for a year but this school isn’t at all what everyone else in this review section says. I took a class twice because I was put in honors (I’m supposed to be in honors. Flattered tho). Another thing is favoritisms. The teachers? I think the only teacher I liked was Mrs. Amo. She’s cool but every other teacher was too extra or did nothing. The only thing good about the school was my friends. Oh yeah and they bribed the students to write good reviews🤦‍♀️
shelby powell: Attended MMSA from 5-12th grade and I am a proud Alumna! The teachers are incredible and dedicated to their students education. There is ACT/SAT prep that helps prepare students for exactly what they will see on the exam, college field trips that help students decide which is right for them, and overall a staff that has each child's best interest at heart.
