Liz Casselman: I signed a contract with Hutch Paving in September 2021 on a full removal and re-pavement of a commercial parking lot and driveway in Waterford. The project was slated to begin early spring 2022. After delays regarding the weather, paving plants, and municipal contracts, they finally sent engineers out to look at the property two days before the scheduled start date. At this point they recommended a drainage option with little to no background information, and when I declined the option, they tried to convince me otherwise and blamed the delayed start date on me not moving forward with the recommendation. Eventually they admitted that they weren't ever in a place to meet that start date.This was the beginning of a long, costly, unprofessional headache. My main contact on this project was Colton and it was a terrible experience. My one, small commercial parking lot project stretched from April 29 - June 20. As a basis of comparison, I have a larger, non standard shaped parking lot in Southfield that got paved by a different company, start to finish - two business days. I have tenants and their clients that were constantly inconvenienced by the poor communication and scheduling. The building next door complained about Hutch's workers parking there (without permission), smoking, and leaving trash on their property.Project was delayed because Hutch failed to pull permits and someone called to complain as they shut down a lane of Dixie Highway.Hutch said we could drive on the initial 2 inches that were laid, then there was significant damage that had to be repaired because of vehicles driving on it.Dumpster was moved to the grass and never returned by Hutch. I had to coordinate with the trash company after pickup had been delayed weeks because Hutch said they would take care of it.I (not an engineer) provided an alternative to the very costly drainage plan, and the engineer agreed it was a much better and cost effective solution, and then ultimately Hutch decided I didn't have a drainage issue to begin with (the one that delayed the start date due to my "inaction").I initially agreed to have new concrete blocks put in, pending the status of the current blocks. No one ever followed up with me, then one day I received *some* new blocks, and some old blocks had been reinstalled. When I followed up about the removal of the old concrete blocks, I was told, "At this point, I have gone up and beyond the conditions of my contract including free new concrete parking blocks. The other blocks are your property and not part of the contract". They did say they would do me a favor by picking them up. They never did.Lastly, they damaged two lamp posts on my property and stole my wheelbarrow. I was having interior work done and a Hutch employee tried to pull another wheelbarrow out of my contractor's truck. When confronted by the contractor, he just shrugged it off and left. Then we noticed our own wheelbarrow was missing. When I contacted Colton he said yeah, sorry, we'll buy you another one. Never purchased a new one, just returned our old one weeks later. They knocked over a brick lamp post and never provided any recourse. Didn't remove it, offer to repair it, or apologize.The level of unprofessionalism was honestly astounding. For a project that ended up costing nearly $80k, it was really amazing that it took that long, that my property was damaged, my tenants inconvenienced, I had to come up with a drainage plan myself, and it remains to be seen if the actual product is of any quality, because clearly the service was abominable. When I tried to involve the owner Michael, he very clearly felt that mitigating the situation was beneath him and repeatedly told me he didn't have the details of my project but Colton would be able to provide me with the answers. Avoid Hutch Paving at all costs.

The best part about Hutch is that after they redid the parking lot, they returned to fill all cracks for free. I love the professional work and planning. Rick, Mike, and Melanie were great.
