Lake St. Clair Sailing School: what do users think?
Caitlin Helgesen: We took ASA 101 with the Lake St. Clair Sailing School and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get into sailing. Captain Bob was extremely knowledgable and great at tailoring how he conveyed that knowledge. He took time to answers all of our questions, even if they didn't pertain specifically to the 101 curriculum. It was helpful to have him in tandem with Ranam to provide a broad experience. Scheduling and communication were also easy and prompt.
Mark Long: Great experience! Great instruction! Thank you!
Federico Reinel: Went out sailing with Lake ST Clair Sailing School a few times to refresh some skills. Awesome experience with the captains: points of sail, sail trim, winch handling, trimming the sail sheets, sailing with the head sail furled, both sails furled and sailing only with the head sail. Sailed wing on wing. Skippers were very professional and with a genuine interest in sharing their know how and skills. Went out a few times on a Sun Set sailing experience. Nice to meet people, make new acquaintances and enjoy the beautiful twilight sailing and sunset. Skippers demonstrated good people and communication skills which made the sailing experience even nicer.
Tom Hunt: I attended the ASA 101/103 Combo course in October 2022 with Captain Joe. It was an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.I decided to begin taking the ASA sailing courses in the Summer of 2022 and found limited class openings in Michigan and Ohio as it was late in the season. I found the sailing school’s real-time course scheduling to be very efficient compared to the other schools in the region where you needed to call/email for scheduling.I found the communication from the school timely, frequent, and responsive. The students in our class had a wide range of sailing experience from limited to extensive. Captain Joe thoroughly covered the course material both in discussion/presentation format and on-the-water. He was very patient and engaging with each student to accommodate their individual learning pace.
R M: We are not rating the instructors, and from what we have read they are good; nor the experience we were not afforded. Our rating is entirely about the owner, ergo the business as a whole. The owner sent the following message that was buried within a booking confirmation e-mail the night before our 09:00 class:"I am emailing you because [name redacted] who is supposed to give you the sailing class tomorrow has tested positive for COVID. ... I have tried to find another captain but they were all had previous commitments. Would the following date be ok with you? 10/8/2022 Saturday and Sunday"We booked the two-day classes weeks in advance; arranged for time off work, and invested in the required/recommended clothing and equipment. The weather forecast for our classes was 9-10 knots and mid 80s. In my mind this was perfect sailing weather. The October 8th-9th classes were already on the school's schedule; and the forecast for those days was in the 40s, which would have been a very unenjoyable experience for us.Unforeseen events happen, and the instructor should focus on their health. I do not think anyone could reasonably argue otherwise. There are myriad reasons why an instructor may become unavailable; but the owner did not plan for a very common contingency.Who doesn't call their customer when they have to cancel something at the eleventh hour? This owner.Who doesn't make the slightest effort to try to find a mutually acceptable solution? This owner. The booking confirmation includes the following exact copy:"Cancellations:Full refund when you inform us by email 7 days before the class starts.50% Refund when you inform us 3 days before the class starts. No Refund when you inform us 48 days before the class.Customers will also receive a full refund or credit in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances."Should the owner have apologized? It would have demonstrated some consideration. In conclusion: we received a full refund, but caveat emptor with Lake St. Clair Sailing School.
Rima Smadi: Knowledgeable, dedicated, and inspiring instructor. This school has great sailing programs. I reached out to Captain Ranam Kazziha in order to take the ASA 104 course. Captain Ranam was very accommodating with my schedule. She assigned me to Captain Joe, who is an ASA certified instructor. He assessed my skill level and experience and adjusted the course to fit my advanced level. He offered extra advice and tips to expand my knowledge. Great instructor! I had a blast! The sailboat is simple to learn on and has everything labeled which makes things easier!Would recommend it to anyone interested in learning how to sail :)
Tim Sparks: I took the ASA 103 Coastal Cruising class at Lake St Clair Sailing school. It was very informative and Capt. Joe brought the textbook information to life. His various experiences in sailing, powerboat, and commercial ferryboat examples were helpful in understanding different situations we can find in sailing and navigation in local and other areas. He did a nice job in instructing the various sailing experience levels and goals of the students in our class.I would highly recommend the course, Capt. Joe, and Lake St Clair Sailing School.
Jeff VanDyke: I took my ASA 103 class there and was a great experience. The instructor (Captain Bob) has a lot of real world sailing experience and leveraged into the class work. I learned a lot and would highly recommend.
Alan Fulk: I have taken two classes with Lake St. Clair Sailing School and both instructors were knowledgeable and focused on learning outcomes. I can’t believe how much you learn in just a few days of hands-on instruction.
Marjan Deljosevic: Convenient location. Captain was very experienced and knowledgeable. Open to any questions and gave great tips about sailing in general. Highly recommended.
Liz Rilley: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,Value

黄硕: Great time with great team. Very good experience. Skipper Jim is perfect
仲芳弘: Positive:Communication,Professionalism
Brian Balow: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityMy wife and I took the two-day ASA 101 certification course. Captain Dave was very knowledgeable and had a great demeanor with us land-lubbers. We came away far more confident regarding our sailing abilities, and recommend the course for anyone wanting to understand the basics of sailing on a larger boat.
Sarah Adair: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueWe had a wonderful time on our sunset sail. Thank you to Ranam and Bob for such a good time.
Yakun Wang: Positive:Professionalism
Nicole M: Sunset sailing with Ranam and Captain Bob was absolutely wonderful! They made the trip informational, interactive and a lot of fun! So much so that I hope to sign up for the 101 class before the summer is over. This was a great way to experience our beautiful lake from a new perspective and with new appreciation. I highly recommend this experience to anyone and everyone!Thank you again for a great evening!!
Eric Myrand: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueRanam is great making sure we had our course books and anything else needed for the 101 course I took. Captain Jim was very informative, kept class interesting and overall fun. Would certainly recommend to anyone interested in getting into sailing.
edward hogan: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityThe school was quite informative and very low key. There was no pressure to perform and the captain gave plenty of instruction and provided key details that are important as well as practical. I had a great time and learned a lot. Made me long to get out on my boat.

Bob Bruce: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityJust had a very pleasant sailing experience with Captain Anne and company. Got a great sunset in and a nice time. The crew was very professional and made sure we were comfortable and safe.
Shanaya Johnson: Positive:QualityHad a wonderful time sailing for the first time. Service highly recommended.
Sarah Adair: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueWe went out for a sail on a Friday evening. It was such a good time. Fun company, a beautiful sailboat, and lake St Clair. I’d highly recommend it!
Laura Rothkopf OGrady: I've had a wonderful experience with Lake St. Clair Sailing School. I started out as a nervous sailor. All of Lake St. Clair Sailing School's instructors were patient, encouraging, and very skilled. As a result, sailing has become one of my favorite past times. I also love that instruction takes place on a 30 ft. boat, so you are learning on a boat that would actually be used for open-water sailing.
Scott Walter: We picked out this school after researching and talking to several in the Detroit area. One important difference to us was that Lake St Clair Sailing School offers evening sailing to strength your skills at a very reasonable rate. We are a group of four and just completed the ASA 101 class in their 30 foot Catalina. What a great experience. Can't say enough about Captain Jim. He made us feel comfortable and created a fun experience while learning all of the necessary skills. We all decided that we are taking the next class, ASA 103 with Captain Jim as well.

Bayview Yacht Club: what do users think?
T.R. Youngblood Jr: The shrine of Naughtical Culture. New club house, new food. Everyone was very nice and good. I tried the hummer; which is a drink, invented there by Sir Jerome Adams & it was perhaps one of the best drinks I’ve ever had.
grace pappas: I dislike the menu it’s not even close to how it used to be 10 years ago. They are crashing. I miss the old staff and the old food. They over cooked everything my family ordered. The appetizers are over priced and not that good. The calamari really bothers me. Also the hostess has an attitude that’s not favorable.
Bob Sullivan: Great views, comfortable clubhouse and beautiful marina.
Sean Lane: Top shelf!!
Metari Harris: Always beautiful and pleasant!
John H. Scott: A member invited us over for a cruise, cocktails and appetizers. It was our first chance to tour the new club house! Exactly what one would expect from one of the most extraordinarily competitive sailing clubs in the states: sleek, functional, well tuned and very inviting. Unfortunately, there are no social memberships offered but YCA reciprocity is recognized.
Claude Greiner: Nice place was here for a celebration of life for my uncle. Staff was nice and if I had a boat I would consider being a member. Thank you
Kip Smith: Very nice clubhouse. Food and Service excellent!
Mr E: I was welcomed and treated like family. I took an adult learn to sail class and fell in love!I’m now a member and keep my boat here. It’s an awesome place with great people!Junior sailing is absolutely awesome for the children as well. It keeps them busy and out of trouble allllll summer long! :):)
Joseph Bochinski: The renovation came out really well. The building looks great. The food was suburb (best burger I've had in a while) and the service was great too.
Chuck Messner: We sailed in this afternoon from Crescent, they kindly accepted us for dinner and outdoor seating. Service was prompt, quality of ingredients / preparation was very good, prices were fair, and the setting is great. Often times the places with a great location underdeliver and are overpriced. Great medium priced restaurant experience.
Harry R: The best view and cocktails in the D
Ryan Sterling: Excellent customer service experience
Matt Cooper: Beautiful club and one of Michigan's top chefs!
Steve Roby: Easy access. Great view overlooking river
Tony Pry: Fantastic Facilities
Bob Declercq: Awesome new clubhouse
MJ C: The staff is awesome, especially Jen behind the bar.
Sandra Issell: Just beautiful !! What a retreat, so badly needed during these Covid times. Lifted my spirit right up !
Monk Vickers: Bayview is the place to be if you want to sail.
Amy Bourne Rozelle: Highly recommend the hummers.
