Select Specialty Hospital - Macomb: what do users think?
--: Don’t take your loved ones here. You ask for a nurse to move or shift your loved ones because they’re slopped or don’t look like they have been moved they will throw a fit “well I was just in here two hours ago and I wiped her face off them” or “well all the workers like doctors been in here today so idk what to tell you” from a nurse who instantly had attitude seemed ready to fight or flight kinda mood. Like wow. Great nurses soooo impressed. NOT. Also if you have IMPORTANT questions they will all tell you, well idk the answer every single nurse or doctor. No one will actually tell you. How does no one know. Mind blown. I worked in places similar to this for years and I never seen something this ridiculous before.
Larry Brooks: The staff help me after my wife's death I was in deep depression
Brian Gaddy: The hospital is been great to me and taking care of me with my recovery that I am still here now come a long way eating solid food now which is good but the food it's okay. I would highly recommend this place very nice people.
Wayne Wade: I went there because I had a really bad case of COVID which brought on other complications. I was in so much pain I passed out after waiting over 45 minutes (pressing the help button). When I woke up I was in another hospital. Stay away from this place if you can help it.
M Hub: Because of the excellent care here, my father-in-law was able to recover enough to have the valve replacement surgery he needed at another facility. They were willing to collaborate with another hospital to give him the special care he needed. Dr. Yazdani, his team, the pharmacist, and so many others like Albert, his nurse, all helped him, so that now he's successfully recovering at home. We're all very grateful for their detailed care.
niall halata: Great staff very helpful nurses and aids. The Admission office Will try to accommodate.
Jack Hubbard: Wonderful care
kathie helsel: My husband spent about 2 months in Select Specialty. From start to finish, the experience was top notch. When my husband arrived, he was vent dependent. Before long, he was vent free and beginning to eat. The staff was professional, kind, patient, helpful and always had time to explain things. My husband arrived to the facility with a rather large bed sore. They immediately addressed the issue and soon the wound was on its way to healing. Nedra, I believe her position was case worker, was especially helpful in guiding me through the system and was always available to answer questions. Physical therapy was great, always positive and motivated to help my husband. I highly recommend Select Specialty
Corey A. Johnston: I had 4 organs fail on me at the same time on October 6th 2019. I was pretty much in a comatose state and do not remember anything from the day I went to the emergency room in port Huron until I woke up and came to in February at their place. I woke up and was treated greatly. Thanks and love from the bottom of my heart. I wouldn't be here with out you guys.
Faheem M.: I got the opportunity to do my clinical rotation here as a PTAS. My experience here was great. The staff members were professional and courteous at all time and helped me through my experience here as a student. The rehab team here are really good at what they do!
Lynette Matherly: The reason why i give them a 1 star is because I begged my husband's case manager to not send him to the facility they sent him to because of there reviews I begged and begged he was doing so much better and after sending him where they sent him I'm now a widow I truly believe they are all about there money cause they told me to my face if i didnt want him transferred i would have to pay them up front i would think b4 sending ur loved ones here if they have medicaid or medicare and they have a trache good luck with that
Deb Lawrence: I wanted to take the time to express my complete satisfaction with my care here at Select. I am 53, a Third grade teacher, very active individual, and was hit with COVID. September 18th I entered the ER at Henry Ford Macomb and was sent right to ICU. My stay there involved many Rapid Recovery calls and in out of ICU. There was one day I sent my Goodbyes and another I came very close to being placed on a ventilator. Then one day I was presented with the idea of being moved to Select Specialty. So many mixed emotions crossed my mind. Are they giving up on me and need the bed, so I’m being sent off? Have they just done all they can and it’s not working? I was scared and my mind went in that direction.Well I have to say that my care was stepped up a notch, from the hospital to here. Everyone is so attentive to their job and seem supportive of each other and all patients, even when they weren’t assigned to me. From Housekeeping up! My stay was wonderful. If any of my loved ones need this type of care in the future, this is where I want them to be. I would feel very comfortable with leaving someone in their care.I also can’t forget to mention how great the food is here. When you are stuck in a bed, just looking forward to your next meal, it was exciting to get my delicious meals. (And they were actually hot!)I do want to thank my nurses, Meritess and Maykelle, for being absolutely terrific at their jobs. They were outstanding. Then there was my nurses aides, Deanne and Kendra, who were awesome. I will never forget them. Everyone was awesome. Select Specialty Hospital of Mt. Clemens is just terrific.
Lynn Johnson: My son was hospitalized here and it was good for him they treated him right
Stormmie D: My husband had to be transferred here from McLaren Macomb on a ventilator with Covid. We were very happy with his treatment here. The staff was very friendly and were so understanding when I would call for updates. I can never thank them enough for all they've done for him❤️
Tammy Beebe: A very caring, attentive, knowledgeable hospital whose staff looks after , cares for, and brings their patients to a level of being ready to go home!!! I would recommend to everyone!
Anne Harris: Due to my medical history, I’ve been to some of the best hospitals in the country over the past several years. The care I received at Select Specialty Hospital is far and away the best I’ve ever experienced. The staff are compassionate, smart, and they listen. When I came here I couldn’t speak or eat, I was on a ventilator, among other issues and in the time that I’ve been here, I am now completely off the ventilator and breathing on my own. I have made progress in every other area as well. I am on my way to a rehab facility and know I wouldn’t have gotten this far without the skill and expertise of the professionals at Select Specialty.
Kathy Crowther: The staff at the hospital was excellent. The care was excellent. A very good experience.
Mira Wilson: My 78 year old dad survived covid after being told by 4 different doctors that he would not make it, and went here for after care. After two weeks he signed a AMA (leaving against medical advice) because on three separate occasions a nurse would come in and hook up his CPAP machine and then leave without turning it on. He would try the call button, but it would not work because the nurse would purposely forget to turn it off after the initial visit so it no longer works. He would text me "help! No O2" and I would call the station for help from home. Once I was told by a nurse that she was in a shift change meeting and she would get there when she could. Mind you...a covid patient can go from 90 percent oxygen to 50 percent or dead in a matter of minutes. The doctor NEVER called us for an update even after several requests. They are completely understaffed. One nurse told my dad they had 20 patients to look after. You don't have to send your family member here. You can fight Beaumont to send them somewhere you feel is safe. My dad still has PTSD about his oxygen being off and not being able to breathe.
Jaz Westbrook-Peterson: What’s interesting is over a month ago when I received word that my father was being transferred from Beaumont to Select; as it was the only LTAC accepting COVID-19 patients in our area, I remember reading a few low rated reviews from displeased patients. Now I’m wondering where did all those reviews run off too? I always read reviews with a grain of salt because you can’t make all of the people happy all of the time. Not to mention we had no choice in the matter. So now, over a month later, I get the chance to leave my review. Yay!If you love your family member that has been diagnosed with COVID-19, DO NOT SEND THEM HERE. Fight to send your loved one somewhere else! My family’s experience with Select was very disappointing and frustrating. It seemed as if the staff hid behind MI’s restrictive orders. We experienced very limited communication with my Father’s primary care team. So if you want to know every step of the recovery process and not have questions surrounding the level of care or possibly even a death, this ain’t the place for you.At every opportunity the 5th Floor Nurses told us not to call them for updates on my father’s care. I will admit that after their programed response, they condescendingly filled us in on what they read from his records. We were instructed to wait for 12-hour delayed superficial calls concerning only treatment updates and not of the actual care from the hospital’s off-site non-medical personnel. Our position as his advocates were diminished by the restrictive orders and the Nurse’s eagerness of being legally able to avoid speaking with us.When comparing the length of his stay and his incapacitated state to the amount of times we needed further details; details that only a Nurse or Dr. could provide, I would say our calls were limited. However when my Sister complained about the lack of communication to the CNO, she implied that we should have been satisfied with our first meeting 15 days after his arrival, with the Wound Nurse, the primary NP and Physical Therapist that lasted 40 minutes (she pointed out the amount of time, not us). Her tone suggested that our one of only two meetings were more than enough. I wonder if there were no restrictive orders and we were able to be at his bedside to ask questions and advocate for his care, would our 40 minutes received be considered more than enough for an initial update?Unfortunately my father didn’t make it, after successfully being removed from the ventilator, then successfully having his trach removed, a little over 2 weeks later he died. We’re still unsure of what happened because the Nurse over my father care the morning of his death told us he didn’t know what happened. Apparently he died from acute respiratory failure WHILE being on a ventilator... which seems confusing to me but what do I know? And oh yes, he was placed back on a ventilator the night before, without even so much as a phone call to inform us of his acute critical status. But in their consistent nature, even after his death, we have yet to speak to his primary doctor. We didn’t receive any explanations, exchanges of any words, let alone condolences from the primary staff who supposedly cared for him for over 26 days. Oh but not to worry, we were told that the hospital does sends out cards to all the dead patients once a month. So that should arrive any day now, fingers crossed! Although this is not the consistency we expected, I give one gold star for staying consistent in the failure to give clear, concise and current communication!
Bednarczyk Donna: Select Specialty Hospital Macomb is OUTSTANDING! My father was transferred from another hospital to Select Specialty Hospital Macomb to continue his care for acute heart and lungs issues. The care he received from the moment he arrived was excellent. The entire staff is kind and caring. Each member took took the time to leave n about my dad as a person and not just his medical diagnosis. He was always treated with the utmost respect. His physical and medical needs were always met quickly and professionally. I highly recommend Select Specialty hospital.
Tonya Richardson: Our journey started Nov 4, 2019 when my husband had a successful massive open heart procedure. My husband's 5-7 day hospital stay ended up being 66 days in icu because his body went through multiple complications. I was told and I could see he would need more time to recover as a critically ill patient. Select Specialty Hospital would be our next destination. I did my research because I had not heard of this type of hospital setting. Understanding their purpose and knowing my husband's needs this is the best match. I selected Select Specialty Hospital Macomb. The concern we had was how the care from the staff would be delivered since our care in icu was outstanding. We came Jan 8, 2020 late in the evening. Our first encounter was with night shift. We were warmly received and questions I had was kindly answered. The specialty they handle that my husband needed was pulmonary/ventilator weaning. Being a hospital they also addressed all medical needs including cardiac care and dialysis. Bonus was rehab as your medical needs get stabilized you also get stronger physically. The concern me and my husband had before coming was quickly dismissed. My husband needed to be here almost 2 months so we can definitely say every staff member we interacted with from all departments of this hospital was attentive compassionate and skilled or as I like to call them our A.C.S. team. As a result of this type of care my husband is no longer on vent, had his trach removed, and is able to take steps with assistance. We have one more destination before our journey home is completed. We are forever grateful for the care we received at Select Specialty Hospital Macomb.
