Briarwood Center for Reproductive Medicine: what do users think?
Jenna Ritten: I've had nothing but positive experiences here with Dr. Menke and the rest of the office staff, and since being forced by changes in my medical insurance to change providers this year, I wish I was still with them. Now I'm dealing with unnecessary frustration from another provider around things that should not be difficult, like refusing to fax record consent forms and unnecessary bad attitudes from office staff. My whole IVF process from start to finish was so stress-free with Dr. Menke and the whole office here. I can't say enough good things. Hopefully I can come back one day with different insurance.
Akiko Imamura: Summary: Dr and nurses are fine so far, but admins are awful and appear not to care about wasting your time.So far, I had fine experience with my Dr. and nurses. I have not talked to Dr. Moravek much but as far as my experience goes she is professional. Nurses were responsive via the patient portal messages and have been helpful. However, the pre-authorization for my medication and front desk has been a waste of time for me. I have been telling them that they have not completed the pre-authorization that they claimed that they completed. It turned out that they only completed the half of paperwork and ignored the rest. I hope I don't need to pay over $600 for 3 doses of injectables out of pocket but the clock is ticking. While I was dealing with this nightmare, I was asked by a nurse if got the positive result on a test kit I completed at home. I actually called their front desk a couple of days ago and they told me that they would update the record. I have an hard time why they do not know the information. When I called their front desk another day, the woman started talking about her lunch order to her colleague in the middle of the phone conversation with me. She must have no professionalism in her.To make things worse, this is not the first time they caused an issue with a pre-authorization. For a different procedure that I had a couple of month ago, they forgot to send it to my insurance and I ended up getting $2000 bill. The insurance told me that they would initiate communication since the procedure should be covered as long as it's pre-authorized.We will complete the cycle here because of our insurance situation. But if you need to go to this clinic, I will double and triple check they know your status and push their admins to complete paperwork for you on time. It appears that the only chance for you to complete necessary paperwork on time.
Anil Reddy: Worrest Fertility clinic , Just want to claim your insurance rob your money , Even medications refill they never write last minute ask to buy there medical store with 4 times extra money .Emotionally they play with patients really bad place very less sucess rates here failures more they killing time also years every one think michigan university hospital is good but its worrest place please dont go this clinic search another place.
Natalie Lynn: Best fertility clinic.
Amanda Harvey: I have had a very disappointing experience with this clinic once I started my IVF journey. I was supposed to start my first IVF cycle in June and they let me make the the 2 1/2 hour drive to Ann Arbor just for me to get there and have a bomb dropped on me that I couldn't start because they were paving the parking lot. NOBODY had given me any kind of heads up about this. I followed all the instructions like I was supposed to, and they even called me while my husband and I were on our way down that day to make sure I was coming!!! My heart was shattered yet again. It is beyond me who thought it was a good idea to handle that situation like that. Now here I am in August supposed to be starting my IVF cycle and still struggling emotionally from this and have asked to speak to a counselor/social worker....3 days later NO ONE HAS CONTACTED ME!!! Thanks a lot Mid Michigan
Sophie LeFevre: Honestly never had an issue with this clinic. They were very receptive when we had our first baby and very empathetic when I had my miscarriage.Dr Smith is amazing and really does care about her clients. We're on to baby number two now and they've been super nice with me especially since I've been incredibly nervous.
Lisa Bradley: I went through 3 rounds of IVF at this clinic. I agree that there were multiple residents and fellows. Sometimes I did not feel as if I received the best care because the provider was learning (sometimes unsupervised--maybe this is allowed with fellows). During my second egg retrieval the bed broke and they were unable to aspirate my follicles. I was devistated. Although requested, I never received feedback on what they have done to try and prevent this from happening to other patients. They paid for my next cycle, but I had to provide them with all of the receipts from medication payments. Since it had been greater than a year they had to re-do all of the initial testing (which was not reimbursed/covered). I did receive my miracle Ava from their services, but I will say that I felt like a number throughout the process (i.e. they notify you of an unsuccessful implantation through the patient portal...no one ever calls you). As someone who works in quality improvement, I feel they have multiple opportunities for improvement. I am writing this review 3 years after the birth of my daughter based on a recommendation from my therapist, as this process has left me with mental and emotional scars.
pAVANI: One of the worst place to be in. They do not treat you properly especially front desk clerk. They think they are control in everything and they advise as they are doctors on your treatment plan. When you request an appointment as existing patient and will get appointment after months as your new patient. I do not want to name of clerk but she is worst.
Brigitte Tofaily: I only go.for monitoring . . i did my IVF in NY.
Andrea Rentz: If you are hoping to lose time, money, and embryos, look no further! Love being treated like a number instead of a person? You're in luck! I have been in this fertility journey for over 3yrs now and I can say with certainty that 2yrs of that time was completely wasted by UM's set in stone protocols. We started with 4 high grade, genetically tested, quality day 5 blastocysts. After 3 failed transfers with those high grade embryos, we are now switching clinics. Communication with the nursing staff was atrocious and though I loved my doctor, I hardly ever saw him. I don't tend to write reviews, but I feel very strongly that if you are looking for a comprehensive team to provide personalized care, keep looking.
Danielle Booms: It can be tough to get an appointment with the Reproductive Endocrinologists, as they're fairly busy and seem to book a couple of months out. However, once you have a treatment plan in place it's smooth sailing. They give thorough notes and test results on the patient portal, usually the same day as the visit. Additionally, the staff are all friendly and easy to work with.
Tracy Schwab: Most of the staff is amazing. We were told two different stories, once we learned that our first round of IVF failed. This clinic doesn't have any answers, except it could be my egg quality but they don't know, and it's true that they said they may never know... Unfortunately, with our insurance we have to continue our care with a U of M doctor. We are hoping this is our year for our miracle baby.
Tabitha Masseth: I did not have a great experience. I tried iui and no sucess. They had me on clomid. After going through all 4 rounds of iui. I went to get a second opinion. They said clomid is a bad drug to use when trying to get pregnant. That clomid dose not help. Really a waste of money. Unfortunately I have no more funds to go this second route. Maybe if I would of went with a different fertility clinic I would exactly be pregnant.
Alis Mazur: The REI Fellow on phone duty was unsympathetic about my miscarriage symptoms and didn't take my concerns or pain seriously. I feel badly for her future patients.
jetress su: This clinic is crazy. They have many rotating interns and fellows and on call doctors. They don't read patients' history records and don't understand what's going on with the patient. For so many times, they give wrong instructions to the patient. I think this clinic is very poorly organized.
Ede Fortune: I have really had a pretty great experience up to this point. The medical staff are all so friendly and positive and encouraging.
Christopher Smith: Was told 5 days for results on fertility testing. Its been 28 and still nothing. My doctor's office has requested the results 4 times now. Wife and I are really disappointed.
Jess Murphy: The staff is super friendly. My doctor figured out more things about be in the first month than any other doctor had in my whole life. I'm still in treatment but I'm so thankful for the team I'm working with! Dr. Mahany is wonderful.
Maelynn Watrous: I started out with 1 doctor about a year ago and he was a little too rude and impersonal for my liking. I'm now seeing a different doctor with this clinic and loving it. She's kind, caring and professional.
Cassandra Pitts: I will never return to this clinic. It was a hot mess from the minute I walked in the door. I had to tell two interns my life story and why I was there. I needed help controlling my PCOS and weight gain from the PCOS before I could get pregnant. So after telling the interns the complete story, they proceeded to tell the actual doctor outside my room. Then the doctor comes in and goes over stuff with me very briefly and basically took my word for it that I was diagnosed with PCOS many years ago and she prescribes me the same pills I have been on before. I was okay with this as long as they were going to do their own test to determine if PCOS was really my problem. They stated they wanted to do blood work and that was it. No pap, no ultrasounds, nothing. So I just went with what they were suggesting and then comes in another person who keeps me in the room for an hour by repeating herself constantly and forgetting what she was saying over and over. It took her an hour to tell me how to take a couple pills and send the script into my pharmacy. By the time I was done listening to her my nerves were neck high and I wanted out. I leave the place and nobody wants a copy of my insurance or ID. It freaked me out that they had no idea if I was really me or not, since they did not ask for proof. So, I head home with a 2.5 hour drive ahead of me and halfway home I realize they completely forgot to do my blood work. I was so upset. I drove 2.5 hours for some doctor to put me on medicine that I suggested and without any tests and now no blood work. What kind of clinic is this? I could have done this with my regular family doctor! So I get home and go to get my scripts, but of course the clinic forgets to call the important one in. So I had to wait a week before I could get my new pills since I never got a call back when I called. Lastly, I call from a side affect from my pills and all they tell me is quit taking them and go to a weight loss clinic. They were quick to collect insurance money and send a bill but didn't want to do anything for me and definitely not in a timely manner for what little they did do. I DO NOT recommend this clinic whatsoever.

Susan L: Dr. Gago and her staff are phenomenal and I would highly recommend Gago Center for Fertility to anyone looking to start or grow a family. Dr. Gago and her staff helped my husband and I to get pregnant with all three of our beautiful, healthy children and we are forever grateful.

IVF Michigan Fertility Center - Ann Arbor: what do users think?
Gina Steffey: I think this is maybe the second time I've ever written a Google review for anything, but I thought it was important to share my harmful experience with IVF Michigan so others might not have to go through something similar. I also want to acknowledge that there are a wide variety of reasons folks pursue IVF, and my story/reasons are not going to be shared by everyone. We began seeing receiving services at IVF Michigan in the spring of 2022. My first appointment was completed over FaceTime while the doctor was in his car, driving to Chicago with his family. We were initially told that we might be good candidates for IUI and completed requested testing. When we asked about the possibility of vericocele in my husband, we were told not to worry about it. During my water sonogram, the doctor made comments about how my anatomy looked good, unlike the patient he had just seen before and then proceeded to tell me about this other patient's concerns. In October, we were told that we had a 1-2% chance of conceiving naturally, a 3-4% chance if we tried IUI and a 60% chance if we did IVF. IVF was not covered by our insurance at the time and the out of pocket cost of $17,000+ per round was not realistic for us. I changed jobs and got insurance that covered fertility treatment, including IVF, if we went through U of M. We requested records from IVF Michigan on 2 separate occasions well before our first appointment with U of M, but our records were not faxed over until just today, when my husband called for the third time and asked for confirmation that a fax had been sent. Our first appointment with U of M was last week. The doctor looked confused when we told her our chances of conceiving with IUI and said that the chances were more likely 15-20%. She asked if my husband had seen a urologist to see if vericocele might be the issue, which he had not as IVF Michigan told us that was not a cause for concern. My husband resubmitted a semen sample on Wednesday last week and had an appointment with a urologist today. He does indeed have vericocele, which can be addressed with a fairly simple outpatient procedure that is covered by our insurance. If my husband had not had this procedure and we moved forward with IVF, the urologist informed my husband that the risk of miscarriage in the first trimester could be 60-70%. This was shocking to us, as this was totally new information. Our experience with IVF Michigan feels predatory, as though we were being steered towards the most expensive route for conception, even though there were other safer, less invasive measures that would be covered by our insurance. I am truly saddened and enraged by this experience. We spent a year of our lives trusting this agency and feel like we were misinformed and led astray. I don't want anyone else to experience this, as infertility on its own is challenging enough to deal with.
Krista Russ, writer and editor, B.S: IVF is a very intense, time consuming, and emotionally draining journey, but Dr. Shamma made it worth all of it. He is exceptionally knowledgeable and his success rates are some of the highest in the country compared to other IVF clinics/doctors. When he told me I would get 30-40 eggs with my high AMH levels due to PCOS, I didn’t believe him but I got 43 eggs. When he said I had a 75% chance of successful implantation with one genetically normal embryo and because I am still fairly young at 30, I was dubious as this was much higher than the national average. Once again, he was right. I got pregnant after just one IVF cycle as he accurately predicted I would in ~1.25 cycles. I am now 32 weeks pregnant due with a precious baby boy on April Fool’s Day thanks to Dr. Shamma’s outstanding protocols. He leaves no stones unturned and took many additional steps he didn’t have to in order to increase my odds of successful implantation, and sure enough, it worked the first time. My husband and I are so grateful, as he has made our dream of becoming parents finally come true. While he and the nurses who oversaw my care were outstanding and compassionate, I do think some of the front desk staff could be a little friendlier and more compassionate. It’s little things like saying hello, smiling, asking how your day is, etc. that didn’t seem to happen very much with most of the front desk office staff/phlebotomist, so that is the only reason I took off a star. A warm and friendly greeting really does go a long way when you’re already struggling emotionally and vulnerable with this process. However, the front office was very professional and transparent about cost, and they initiated the necessary prior authorizations with my insurance to get the ball rolling, so I appreciated that part as there was never a surprise bill—something that can’t be said for other fertility clinics I’ve gone to. Some of their policies like no unvaccinated partner allowed even with a negative Covid test seemed a little overly strict given that vaccine and infection induced immunity has increased dramatically over the years, so that was the hardest part, not having my husband there for support as he is not vaccinated for medical reasons, but otherwise I would highly recommend IVF Michigan in terms of getting what you ultimately want, which is a baby. While their practice is busy (always a good sign), I disagree with the review that Dr. Shamma is only in it for the money. He always addressed my questions thoroughly and explained things well when I prompted further explanation, was extremely knowledgeable, and seemed genuinely happy and excited to see I’d conceived. Now if only he’d warned me how fun a time pregnancy would be lol. He is very good at what he does. End of story. And he will always be a true blessing to our family.
Daisy Howlind: The first time we did this several years ago went rather smoothly. This second time has been incredibly frustrating and I am constantly on the verge of tears. The online portal and client experience has been horrible and we have been trying to get an appointment for four months and either we can’t get through to anyone or no one returns our voicemail or the login we have been given was incorrect and now they say the paperwork is not complete even though when I had logged in everything turned green. It is incredibly frustrating. All we want is another baby and the clinic seems to care less.
Ashley Weichlein: I could not be more thankful for this office and their staff of AMAZING people. After years and years of battling infertility behind closed doors, month after month of ovulation inducing medication, surgeries and an unfortunate etopic pregnancy that almost resulted in the loss of my right fallopian tube, my husband and I decided to take the next step and leaped into the world of IVF. We scheduled a consultation with Dr. Cottrell and immediately felt the passion she possesses for what she does and the compassionate care she pours into her patients. Living in the U.P of MI options for infertility care are limited, we opted for the Ann Arbor office as my husband and I both have family there, Dr. Cottrell and her nurses worked with the distance; creating calanders of dates to go to my local OB and local hospital for lab draws, ultrasounds, etc and it worked seamlessly. Now after spending most of my adulthood wondering "if" and "when", I have been gifted with the most beautiful set of twins, I will forever be greatful for. ❤️
Holly Koehmstedt: I can't say enough good things about Dr. Shamma, the nurses, and the clerks at IVF Michigan Ann Arbor. They've been there for me through my miscarriage, and helped me with medication and close monitoring and ultrasounds to conceive again! Dr. Shamma is very nice, understanding, and involved, providing options and oversight for my PCOS and infertility. The nurses are so sweet, supportive, and so hardworking. The front desk staff are so easy to reach and schedule with. We have just graduated our treatment and are happily 12 weeks pregnant with our rainbow baby with help of Dr. Shamma and his team. I highly recommend.
Mary Pisco: Dr. Cottrell and the nursing staff are amazing! After years of infertility and countless iuis we decided to pursue IVF. We had our daughter this past year and we are back for baby number two.
Jennette Goans: I wish I could give Dr. Shamma and the team at the Ann Arbor location 1million stars! They truly care about everyone, and their treatment. They always are there to answer questions, and concerns even on the days they are closed. Even during COVID and the unfortunate circumstances Dr. Shamma still takes an interest in spouses, even though they can't be in the office with us. I have never been more impressed and happy with a medical office. They make you want to stay in touch, and every nurse took time to say good-bye to me on my last visit and I will truly miss them all. Dr. Shamma is very compassionate, knowledgeable and dedicated to his practice. We are forever grateful for IVF Michigan.
Brooke Tumas: After 5 years of struggling with "unexplained” fertility issues and four failed IUI’s at a clinic in Seattle we decided to try IVF. We worked with Dr. Cottrell and I cannot say enough positives about her and the nursing team that helped us get pregnant. Doctor Cottrell went above and beyond by listening to what I needed and never making me feel like I had an insignificant question or concern. Everyone’s fertility experience is different so at the end of the day I would at least set up a consultation and see if this is the place for you. I’m so happy we did and feel fortunate that we are expecting!
Steph Parrish: We cannot share enough good things about this clinic, particularly Dr. Cottrell, our nurse Jessica, and really the whole nursing staff. We just finished a year of IVF and birthed our healthy, beautiful baby a week ago. We are a queer and trans couple and Dr. Cottrell and her team were beyond respectful and supportive. We always felt so cared for in every single procedure and step of our process, even when we had some hiccups and challenges along the way. Thank you, IVF Michigan and Dr. Cottrell for playing such an integral role in our family :)
Barbara Cramer: Even though I have yet to successfully produce a live child I can not say enough wonderful things about Dr. Ayers and his nursing staff and feel that it is in no way a result of the care I have received. They are very understanding when scheduling appointments, make time for you in the event of an emergency, Dr. Ayers has held my hand as I fall asleep for the surgeries I have required, and they have even worked with me financially when the expenses get to be overwhelming.Kathy reminds me of super woman the way she seems to always be one step ahead of things with anticipating your needs and making herself available after hours for questions and extended support. I hate to use the over used term "compassionate care" but they are the truest example of compassionate care I have seen. After a loss the office called just to make sure I was doing ok even though medically they had done all they could do for me. I have seen many doctors throughout my endeavors and I can honestly say this team has it way more right than a lot of them out there.Again, I am not filling this box with rosy sentiment because I have a bundle of joy that Dr. Ayers has helped me create, because any infertility doctor gets lucky sometimes and gets all the credit for a baby. It takes an extraordinary doctor to win over the patient so much that they take the time to fill out google reviews when they are still in the throws of infertility.I would and have recommended Dr. Ayers and his staff to everyone. I feel in my heart that if I am meant to have a baby Dr. Ayers will be the one to make it happen.Update : We have a beautiful 14 month old and are looking forward to baby #2.
Maggie: After a very devastating loss and years of infertility, we finally were able to conceive with the help of Dr. Shamma and the incredible nurses at the Ann Arbor office. I am so incredibly grateful for my sweet baby boy.
Jill: Dr. Shamma and his staff at the Ypsilanti and Bloomfield Hills offices are excellent. Dr. Shamma always took the time to make sure we understood what was needed. All of his staff was friendly and available to answer any questions we had. Without IVF Michigan we wouldn't have our beautiful little boy. Thank you.
Krista Voss: Dr. Cottrell deserves a full five stars! We are very pleased with her. She clearly cares about her patients and personally reached out to both my husband and I when we had a communication issue with some test results. Mind you this was after five on a Friday before a holiday weekend. She is patient and takes the time to answer all of your questions when you meet with her and it’s very supportive. We look forward to following her recommendations which will hopefully lead to a successful pregnancy.
theoffspringlp 13: Went in for testing on a Friday. Was told results would in the following Wednesday at the latest. By Thursday I had my doctor call to try to get the results and my doctor was told that the results had been sitting at this clinic since Monday but none of the doctors there had time to sign them. It took my doctor screaming at them on Friday multiple times before anyone could be bothered to find a doctor at the clinic to sign off on them. Add in the my doctor was told initially on Friday that the results had been faxed. When my doctor tried to confirm the fax number, she was then told that the results still hadn't been signed. We had initially decided that if any further fertility testing/care was required that we would be using this clinic going forward. After our experience there, we have decided to look for a new clinic that takes it's patient's care a little more seriously.
Jessica Hartner: My husband and I were struggling to get pregnant. We live about 45 minutes from this location but it was worth the drive. We went and seen Dr. Ayers. He was a very good doctor and explained and helped us understand everything that was going on. Within 2 months of seeing him I was able to get pregnant. Definitely recommend this office.
Bart Preston: If you have an infertility condition and want to get pregnant, set up an appointment with Dr Shamma. This Practice is one of the best in the world. We lived within a half hour of this office when we started going to this practice and was successful with our first daughter. We have since moved to central Illinois and decided to come back in 2008. We had success again with our second daughter. We are now (2010) coming back to attempt a third.Through the years we have been treated at other practices (before finding Dr Shamma), and have met with and investigated a few other Doctors after moving to Illinois.Bottom line - I can not imagine a better Doctor, Staff, and Lab then what makes up this practice.

We just found out we’re expecting from our first transfer, and while it’s hard to know if acupuncture led to the success, I can confidently say that the relaxation and his knowledge contributed to my low stress levels and my body being prepared for the retrieval and transfer. I plan on continuing to get treatment through at least my first trimester. This is a great place if you’re looking for someone knowledgeable and efficient. It isn’t a spa like setting but is still relaxing - I look forward to a little nap during each treatment!
