Adam Wright: If you're shopping for mattresses in the Ann Arbor area, Van Winkle is a must stop. The owner Ken is no pressure, no rush. He takes the time to talk with you, get to know you and is sincere in his conversation with you. He wants you to get a mattress that will suit your needs, not what will beef up his bottom line. When I stopped in Ken spent an hour with me, giving me a crash course in mattresses and some general life tips. I ended up not buying a mattress from Van Winkle, but only because Ken didn't carry the brand I was hoping to buy again for an additional bed in our home. Ken had encouraged me that if I was able to find the brand I already had and liked, to get it! If he had that brand in his inventory, it would have been a no-brainer to buy at Van Winkle. But, alas. Anyways, when you stop at Van Winkle, you're rewarded with a generous offering of mattresses and a salesman who in an old school way genuinely wants whats best for you, even if that means he encourages you to shop elsewhere because he doesn't carry that particular brand. Seriously, 5 Stars for Van Winkle! Ann Arbor is lucky to have a mom&pop shop like this with a salesman who's heart is in his profession.

Doug Arenberg: Amazing customer service and great selection. Ken (owner) went above and beyond as we arrived 30’ before closing on a Saturday. Walked us through lots of options and once we decided on a mattress he ultimately delivered it himself on his way home from the shop. We were NOT on his way home and he didn’t have to do that. If you want to support a local business with great customer service, buy your mattress from Van Winkle.

Lauren Pratt: I spent $1200 on a new futon frame and mattress. Within a month, a piece of the frame has broken off -- they're working with me to fix it, but I'm disappointed in the quality; the piece in question should have been solid wood, rather than glued together. Also, I regret my purchase of the memory foam-topped mattress; although the one I tried in the store felt good, after just a few weeks it's become soft and saggy, so you get a lot of pressure points digging in from the frame. (This was the second most expensive mattress they sell.) Bear in mind that they have a no returns or exchanges policy, so caveat emptor. You might end up with something that doesn't meet your expectations, and no recourse.Edit: Upgrading this review from 2 to 4 stars; when they came to fix the arm of the futon frame, they mentioned this review and offered to let me switch to a new mattress; I ended up going with the wool filled version. I appreciate their flexibility; it would be nice if they instituted a real return policy rather than going case-by-case.

Tim Ropp: This place is the polar opposite of pretty much any “sales” experience you’ll ever have. We felt absolutely zero pressure whatsoever, which actually made us feel comfortable and WANT to support the business. So we did and we feel great about having supported an awesome local business!
Joe Naese: This family owned mattress store truly goes above and beyond with their customer service. They give options case by case depending on your workable price range and provide good descriptions of why the mattress quality differs from each other to best what's most affordable and comfortable for you. Not to mention they offer same day delivery or, in my case, personally move out and strap down the mattress to your car. Truly one of my best retail experiences I've had.
Mayumi Y: We went to Van Winkle after multiple failed deliveries by a big box store. This was our first visit, and we were very happy that we went there. It was nice to actually try out various mattresses. There was no pressure, and we spent quite a lot of time comparing them. Ken was very knowledgeable and answered our questions thoroughly. Van Winkle came through! The customer service was excellent. It's a no pressure environment. They're super knowledgeable. They have a ton of mattresses in stock from budget to luxury. And, my mattress was delivered with white glove service just two hours after I purchased it.Also the prices are just as competitive as if you bought online or at a big box store.

Kahli Zietlow: Buy your mattresses here! Such a great experience - owner is knowledgeable and helpful but creates a no-pressure shopping experience. Surprisingly complete selection. Prices are very reasonable and much of the selection is available for same or next-day delivery. They offer delivery and haul-away of old mattresses for a very reasonable cost. We are so happy we shopped here!
Michael Zietlow: Very nice man helped us out and we were blown away by how different the experience was than we expected. He greeted us and then showed us around the showroom describing the difference between all of the mattresses, then left us alone to decide. No pressure at all. He also offers affordable delivery and old mattress take away. I don't think we could be more pleased with the experience and purchase.

Joyce Vivirski: The salesperson was very knowledgeable but tried to upsell me on mattresses. He also did a bait and switch, telling me the box springs were free but when we went to write up the sales agreement, he told me he made a mistake. The box springs were not free BUT he could give me a $300 master card gift certificate. He would have given me the gift certificate anyway because that was part of the promotion. He knew his stuff so he knew the box springs weren't included in the price. I don't like sales people that aren't honest.

Upon arriving in the store we were immediately greeted and offered something to drink. They let us take out time and try out couches that weren't even on the floor yet but we're in a back room. They gave us space to talk and we're not pushy to get us to buy anything. Definitely recommending to everyone.

J Van Bolt: I guess it's not a traditional one-star review because I do like the store, but the last couple times I've been in there there's no prices on half the things. Especially foods. World Market is the kind of store that you get up to the front and something you may guess was $4 is $20, but at any store its pretty ridiculous that they don't have the prices on so many items. I think it might be illegal. I know they move things around a lot but there seems to be zero interest in marking so many of the food items.
Salam Baker: A wonderful place with all its contents and the material is very wonderful and suits all tastes. It is my favorite place for shopping. Everyone who wants to add an elegant touch to their home should try it.
