Close Quarters Combat Academy: what do users think?
Stella Han: My graduate program at Univ. of Michigan brought on Taqqee and his team for a self-defense workshop in response to the recent and ongoing violence against minority communities. It was a huge success with over 50 participants, and it was truly a pleasure working with CQC. Taqqee was very professional, highly skilled in martial arts, and responsive/attentive to our vision of the programming and made sure to incorporate elements that we desired to see. He brought a team of 6 other instructors and students, and each of them were incredibly knowledgeable and helped each small group practice their moves and give them helpful tips. Overall, we had a positive experience and felt that the knowledge shared, moves learned, and pace/preparation of everything really exceeded our expectations. We would totally work with CQC again and we hope to make this programming recurring as it serves such an important purpose/need in our communities! THANK YOU again!!
Jeff Raymond: Outstanding instructor. I studied multiple martial arts (judo, jujitsu, karate, wing chun, Army ranger H2H) when younger. Despite being in my mid-40s now, Taqqee has me moving in ways I never did before. I feel much more in touch with my body and good about the progress we make. His teaching style is flexible and has led to my spouse training with us now. Would definitely recommend if you want a system that will help you move better and provide a good basis for self defense.
Kim Hytinen: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueTaqqee is an excellent instructor for people of all ages and ability. My family thoroughly enjoyed his lessons and learned so much. We are looking forward to our next session!
Kate Mulka: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueThe best self defense teacher out there!!!
Sharon van der Walde: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueTaqqee is an amazing instructor! When it comes to self defense, he takes the time to explain the process while demonstrating moves. He creates situations and teaches you how to react to them. He is kind and patient and you will definitely walk away feeling empowered!
Jenna Kopp: Incredibly talented and phenomenal teacher. Every student is given the chance to go at their own pace and learn effectively. I have taken private lessons and public classes and it is one of the most positive and encouraging environments you could be in while learning martial arts. CQC not only helped me build skills that I will use for life, but helped build confidence in myself as well. Highly recommend!
Delecate 79: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueHe is an awesome trainer💯
Paul Kopp: Positive:Professionalism,QualityTaqqee is an excellent instructor. I’ve taken martial arts for most of my life and I wish Taqqee was teaching me. He has an excellent way of teaching that makes it stick in your muscle memory. Really great. I just hope he never moves.
Alison fried: CQC is a fantastic place to train. Taqqee is a excellent teacher, he takes the time to explain what is being taught and knows a lot of the history of the art. All are welcome at his training. You will not find a better Salat gym or teacher in the area.
Dan Pratt: Whether you're a complete beginner or a season pro at training in traditional martial arts, taqqee at CQC meets you where you're at and makes you feel welcomed. Wealth of knowledge with a strong foundation in the Filipino martial arts
Eric He: I sent my daughter here to learn self defense. Taqqee is a great teacher and very nice, making my daughter feel very comfortable too. Highly recommended, esp for girls :-)
Sara Adams: Taqqee was beyond AMAZING! We had a private class with a few of my coworkers. He made us feel comfortable right away. We learned a ton of great moves/information. Considering taking another class!
Madeleine Brancaccio: Taqqee is an extremely skilled instructor and makes students from all backgrounds and experience levels feel welcome. He can adapt the instruction according to the needs of each student. Taqqee facilitates a positive, accepting environment within the class. It really feels like a team, where everyone wants you to learn and grow. In addition, CQC occasionally hosts guest seminars taught by other martial arts experts to expand the scope of the class. I HIGHLY recommend this place!!
Katie Hammond: Close Quarters Combat was my first introduction to self defense and martial arts and it was love at first sight. Taqqee, the instructor, is knowledgeable, fun, and invests a lot of energy into each student. The group of people who train here became some of my really good friends, even after I moved away. One of the unique things about this school is how much emphasis is put on developing the mindset behind self defense. The actual physical movement and techniques can be effective, but ultimately useless if one doesn't know how or when to apply the. If you're looking for practical knowledge, healthy physical activity, or even a deep dive into certain realms of the martial arts world, this is the school for you.
T K: Very welcoming community of people, varying ages, and diversity. There are about equal numbers of men and women and sometimes the class is a majority of women. I like that everything that is taught can be changed so that it works for me.
Laurie Calcaterra: Great environment for everyone from beginners to advanced. Classes are unique, fun to participate in, and techniques all have real world applications. If you are looking for a school where you can learn, laugh, and come back to feeling good, look no further. Sign up today!
Gabriella Perozo: Taqqee was great! We learned so much and had so much fun in just two short hours. Would definitely recommend if you are looking to learn self-defense!
Anna Liang: Highly recommend! Taqqee is such a friendly instructor who really cares about his students and their mastery of the material. He's always very patient with answering all my questions and being thrown countless times to help me practice.
Rachel Bullen: Taqqee is a highly skilled instructor who definitely knows his stuff. But he makes the movements and the material feel natural and smooth. This is a class that works with your body and range of motion. It’s not just standing in a line and throwing the same punches. It’s about moving around to find what fits you and what can you can use to defend yourself. Taqqee is incredibly welcoming and kind. His passion and excitement about what he teaches is very apparent and is contagious. I highly recommend CQC to anyone and everyone.
LOCUS Mindset: CQC Academy teaches practical, doable, and effective self-defense techniques using a methodology that makes sense for individuals of all skill levels and athletic backgrounds. The lessons are extremely well-designed with foundational principles in mind and with a focused intentionality for perfecting body movements and mechanics, greater self-awareness, muscle strength, and proper techniques. The learning environment is cooperative, fun and effective; simply put, you will learn and see results that are directly applicable. There is no more valuable a skill than learning how to defend yourself should that be necessary- and what better way to build confidence, strength, fitness, and flexibility all-in-one! It could be said that the practice of self-defense is king among all sports, as it equips you not just with greater levels of strength, fitness, confidence, and coordination, but also with the most valuable tools and options to protect your life and the lives of your loved ones. It is an investment in yourself with an immeasurable return!

Quest Martial Arts: what do users think?
Zakaria Mohamed: Excellent place and training
Justine Wu: Our child has blossomed during the four years she has been training at Quest Martial Arts - her growth is not limited to the katas and the physical movements, she has also gained personal life and leadership skills. Her work towards black belt was a slow, steady process appropriately tailored for her age and developmental stage. One of the best things about QMA is the mixed age classes - they all learn from each other being at different stages of training and life. We are especially appreciative to Mr. Wheeler for guiding her through each step .
Pallavi Jha: My son - Tushar- has been going here since he was in Pre school. He is a high schooler now and is on his way to a black belt. He has loved every session he has had at this place - even now during COVID - the staff has been simply magical! He has improved his focus, self discipline, overall physique and outlook in life. Highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to truly get the most out of learning martial arts!
dave walsh: My son had been asking me to do "karate lessons" for about a year before I started to investigate. When I first walked into Quest I saw a simple unframed sign in the dojo that made me feel like I was in the right place. It said something along the lines of "we are not teaching your kids how to fight, we are teaching them how to manage their emotions." This has been one of the best benefits of my son's attendance at quest. He's going on one year, and has improved his focus and emotional responses significantly. As my son's training went on I decided that I liked the classes and instructors so much, I started training there as well, and have felt significant benefits both physically and mentally. The community environment is also amazing, with everyone welcoming myself and my son actively and openly. The martial arts aren't for everyone, but if you think it might be for you at all, this is the place to find out. I have not been disappointed once.
Calvin Anderson: I know a demon who trains here, it does not say good things about this facility.
Julia Graham: Quest had changed my life. I have learned many invaluable self defense skills, and improved my confidence and self discipline greatly in the year I have been taking classes there. The teachers are amazing and everyone is very friendly. I felt so welcomed to take classes and join the community.
Vanessa Leslie: Quest has been an amazing experience! They have fantastic teachers that are really great at engaging the kids and getting them to really listen to what is being said. It's even better that that also reflects at home. Highly recommend.
Cliff Davis: My sons are 8 and 6. They have been attending Quest for 3 years now. The difference between Quest and the other martial arts program they were in before is, Quest Martial Arts is one big family. The owners are very attentive to all of their students and parents. The instructors are students who have worked hard and earned the privilege to become leaders in the dojo. I love this place! #blackbeltandbeyond
Joshua Hoffman: Won 2 week trial membership after finishing little league for the season.Super gracious staff. We decided not to move forward for various logistical/financial reasons, but look forward to visiting them again when the time is right. My words to the staff"These past 2 weeks have been magical. We have had a wonderful time in our private and group lessons. My 3 boys and I all earned our white belts, memorized our lines from the student creed, learned important lessons about self-discipline, focus and respect, and felt immensely welcomed and supported by our teacher's (Keith, Stephanie, etc).I am humbled by your generosity (the Gi, the Tshirts, the smiles, the trial classes) and by your graciousness even though we aren't continuing right now.We hope to see you in the future someday soon.Domoarigatougozaimashta!"
Steven Spalding: Positive environment, very knowledgeable instructors, and great physical and life skills taught.
Nithya Rajesh: Be very wary of the fee increases at Quest Martial Arts. We paid close to $1800 the first year of martial arts for our child. ( $115/month and $400 Annual fee) . Right before our contract was up for renewal & my daughter was moving to the next level, Quest more than doubled their prices to $250/month and $800 one time payment and had to sign a 4 yr commitment . $3200 per year! We liked the martial arts sessions there but could not justify such a huge increase in fees. We are not sure how they are in business with such high fees.
Bryce Drobnick: Ive been going to quest now for 9 years, and I"m also on the instrutional staff. I love my training experience. I've learned alot, like focus, respect, self-disicpline, comunication skills and much more.
david parsons: The Quest community is fantastic. The instructors, staff and leadership are great and foster personal growth and confidence in all areas of life. We highly recommend this fine school to everyone.
Mikke Mus: I have been going there for years and to be honest the instructors are comedic and very helpful at learning to defend yourself.

URSA Academy - Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu Ann Arbor: what do users think?
Phillip Moorlag: I train in Kalamazoo and was in Ann Arbor for work and Kris and his team welcomed me with open arms! Awesome gym and team.
Josh Jiang: Great coaches and welcoming environment. Has a good mix of beginners and upper level belts. Everyone at the gym is super friendly and fun to roll with. Was at the gym for about 8 months while I was in Ann Arbor for school and wished I had joined sooner! This place is the best!!!
baperrizo: Great program, both gi and no gi sessions, friendly to out of town drop ins, nice facility with friendly staff.
Sarah Wroblewski: Great place to train! Especially impressed with the atmosphere for women; lots of ladies training jiu jitsu and very positive attitudes. Students aren’t overly aggressive and upper belts are generally helpful. Professor is extremely knowledgeable and follows a regular curriculum which makes it easy to learn new techniques and refine old ones into an actual system. Facility is clean and staff is excellent. Only three reasons it’s not 5 stars: 1) is it is pricey- you don’t get that many classes for such a high price tag (although I also understand Ann Arbor rent...), 2) they don’t allow people to come to open mat from other gyms in the immediate area, and 3) you can only wear IBJFF approved gi colors (blue, black, white). Still, would definitely recommend it!
Colette Rackleff: Clean spacious facility. Welcoming front staff. Head coach is humble and approachable. Excellent high-level technique taught in an way that is organized & easy-to-grasp. Training partners are supportive, receptive, & conscientious. Female friendly. Lots of higher belts to train with. My only disappointment is that this gym is not in my home town!
Marissa Barsotti: Positive:QualityI'm new to kickboxing and I couldn't have picked a better place! The instructors are knowledgeable and cater the classes to all skill levels. It's a very friendly environment and I always leave class feeling great. The prices are solid for how many classes you can take a week. I will definitely continue to take classes here.
Keely Zuri: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueLove this place! Challenges me and keeps me on my toes, I never get bored with the classes, they are well organized and a lot of fun!
Josh Rojas: My boys and I are proud members of this unique and special tribe. The thoughtful and detailed programs they’ve developed help anyone enjoy the challenging and rewarding sport of BJJ. All of the coaches are top shelf, do not hesitate to sign up and enjoy everything BJJ has to offer! They make you feel like Norm from cheers except the beer is a lot of focus and sweat. It’s your neighborhood BJJ bar.
Jessica Rhiannon: I love Ursa! I’ve been attending the kickboxing class here for about 6 months and I’m still really enjoying it. A friend recommended it to me years ago, but I was too intimidated to try it, so when another friend recommend it to me this spring, I decided to give it a go. I worried that the classes would be too difficult or become boring (contradictory, I know), but Jay does a great job of adding different skills and layers so there’s always something new to learn. I love the instruction style – Jay is attentive and has a calm and methodical way of running class. I got in a bad car accident about a year ago so occasionally I need modifications for certain drills and Jay is always flexible. Also, folks are really friendly! Great workouts, great people.
Ben Ratner: Dropped in at Ursa a few months back and had a really great experience. Great facility and instructors and students of all skill levels. Would highly recommend this gym to anyone who’s looking to train or learn BJJ in Ann Arbor.
Kevin Daher: Friendly staff, professional coach and excellent atmosphere.I start my training more then four month ago, my health improved, I developed good discipline.we lucky to have a very good coach with a lot of experience.I am sure I will continue my training at URSA
Stacy Fowler: My “box gym” closed down at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Like many, I had to switch up my routines. With a background in Karate, I found URSA Fittness Kickboxing (FKB) in February of this year and haven’t turned back.I have and continue to be impressed by the small class sizes that allow space when social distancing is necessary as well as individuation for all levels; the ever changing routines that still challenge me after nine months; and most importantly the friendly, encouraging, guidance from coach Jay and the URSA family.
Maricela Avalos: Positive:Communication,Professionalism
Andrew Lamoreaux: Very nice gym and staff
Gabrie Italia: I visit Ann Arbor from time to time and I called hoping to drop-in for a jiu-jitsu class for when I do visit. I live about an hour away and I called asking about the drop-in fee. However, the academy believed that an hour away distance is “too close” and would not let me drop-in for a class. I would have to become a member if I were interested. It’s frustrating that the gym seems exclusive and considers an hour distance to be too close.
Josh Barrett: A very experienced, knowledgeable, and professional staff. If you've been on the fence about getting into this, rest assured that this isn't a bully-academy or a meathead parade of people trying to prove how "tough" they are to more inexperienced players. I continue to learn and couldn't be more grateful.
DOMINIC MAGLIOCCO: Finally took the plunge and started BJJ. As an older student I didn’t expect what came next. The coaches made sure each and every student was involved and pushed you not only physically but mentally. I have to say I felt welcomed and part of a family right after the first class. Two months in and covid hit. All the training on the mats stopped BUT all the coaches have stayed interactive to help with virtual learning along with video and audio lectures with great teachings. This by far has been a fantastic experience and know I will be here for many years to come. I would recommend this academy to anyone who asks.
Dustin Vegas: Dropped in for a couple weeks. Very friendly team and excellent instruction. I'll be back whenever I'm in town.
Ron Hay: Great instructors and a really positive environment!
Brittany Hamilton-Reed: URSA Fitness Kickboxing program really has changed me for the better and imI beyond grateful. The staff is amazing and always helpful. The workouts are designed to meet people where they are and you have the freedom to push yourself. There is always something new in the routines and the coaches really pay attention to technique to ensure you are being safe and preventing injury.FKB has not only boosted my weight loss but it's just fun to come in and workout with folks.
Andrea Hardy: My friend found an offer to try three classes for fitness kickboxing at a great deal. Her and I couldn't line up our schedules to try at the same time so I went alone. At the first class, it wasn't a bad experience but it definitely wasn't something that had me convinced. Then come on the high pressure sales tactics where their minimum packages were maybe 20 classes and if you "buy tonight" you can save $100. I'm against those sales tactics so I didn't buy. Later I discussed with another friend and she goes to a place that has prices similar to the price with the $100 discount and lets you pay per class instead of agreeing to some $200+ package the first night. You don't even know yet how you'll feel the next day! Needless to say - neither my friend or I ever came back for a second class, and what's probably the worst part is that they still send text messages over a year later asking if I'm still interested. Nope.

Kil's Martial Arts: what do users think?
Miyoung Park: Master Kil is good with kids. Since my kid started lesson here, has become well-mannered and better focus on any tasks given. Absolutely recommending the studio!
Steve Morris: My 8 year old daughter has been a student of Master Kil for 3 months and I've noticed her focus, desire to learn, and flexibility have all greatly improved in this short amount of time. She looks forward to each class every week and it's a beautiful thing to watch your daughter's excitement and to watch her confidence grow with each passing class. We couldn't be happier with Master Kil's guidance and style of teaching.
Ivan Tmc: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueMaster Kil is very respectful and nice with kids. Our daughter (5 years old) has been in taekwondo classes for more than 7 months and she is very happy. Master teaches no only Taekwondo techniques, also he teaches kids to be responsibles and respect parents and teachers. We recommend him 100% :)
Sonali Kottalgi: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueRecommend to join.
Santosh Kottalgi: "Totee is our only child and she faced some bullying in the society, so I decided to join her for Karate class by browsing some options on internet came to know that Kil's Tae Kwon Do is the best. I went there and was glad to meet Master Kil. He is very Kind, polite and down to earth person even after his olympic successs. My daughter has learned to fight her own battles and needless to say no one dares to bully her after taking her training from Master Kil class. I would definelty recommend everyone to join."- • -Santosh
Aaronman: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueWe are glad we found Kil’s Martial Arts. The place is clean and follows covid safety protocols. Master Kil is a wonderful sensei and our kid loves him! Master Kil doesn’t only teach martial arts, he teaches his students life lessons, to do good in school and at home. He teaches them respect. We truly recommend this place!
Emil Eidin: Amazing master. We have a kid on the spectrum and master Kil had no second thoughts. A true professional. Since my kid started to train with master Kil, he blossomed. He listens more carefully, he learned to control his emotions. Most recommended.
ravi daitota: Since the Martial Arts School we were going was temporarily closed due to building repairs, we were assigned to this school. The Grand Master Mr. Young Sup Kil is a fine gentleman with years of experience. Though the space here is little congested, he manages to make sure all students are trained properly. Its located next to Batteries Plus shop but for some reason google navigation takes you to the back of the building. Parking is ample and shared with many other businesses.
David Gankin: Kils tae kwon do is an awesome martial arts place master Kelley is the best instructor there is and you should really go to her classes she teaches very well and is always positive. You should really join if you are looking for a martial arts school.
Blanca Alfaro: I am Noriella and I come here and I think that Master Kelly is the best person ever 💖💖😁😁😁😁 come here and come to Master Kelly's classes she awesome an😄😄😃😄 instructor.
Vanessa Lundy: My child is doing better in all areas! Respect, school, listening the first time! I love our Karate family!
Megan Martini: Grandmaster Kil has the utmost patience and kindness when interacting with students. He is a fantastic mentor and role model for them! He instills values of humility, self confidence and self defense into my kids and I have noticed such an improvement in their at home/at school behavior. Master Kelly is also incredibly knowledgable and kind - we are so grateful! Thank you Kils TKD!
Satish Bayya: I am very glad I was able to find Master Kil's taekwondo. I found master teaching techniques and methodology is top notch compared to the other institute where my kids used to go when we were in different state.
Brandi Beck: My son and I decided to do Tae Kwon Do (TKD) together. I was previously in TKD as a teenager, so I knew that I wanted the Olympic Style TKD. Master Kil's dojo is the only Olympic style in Ann Arbor. It is great fun and gives you a workout. I would suggest this to anybody that I know.
Kathryn Poppy Wagner: Master Kil is a former Olympic coach and I’ve known of his work for many years. He is a grandmaster and I highly recommend his teaching.

Final Round Mixed Martial Arts and Fitness: what do users think?
John Buchner: I trained at final round for a year and a half while living in Ann Arbor, and it was easily the best gym I have ever gone to.The head instructor was a professional Muay Thai fighter in Thailand and is an exceptional coach. I learned far more under him in a few months than I ever have with multiple years at other gyms. The community at Final Round is amazing - I made many close friends there which only motivated me more to improve and learn. The environment is very welcoming to newcomers with no previous martial arts experience.
Colin McHugh: Final Round is an excellent place to train Muay Thai. Matee and the other instructors do a great job supporting every student and are always ready to give advice. The community at the gym is friendly and always supportive of each other to be their best. I moved out of the state for work, but I can't recommend Final Round enough from the time I spent there!
wingkeung chin: Great experience. Matee is a great teacher for student of all leve
Noorhan Moustafa: Final Round has an environment you can’t experience anywhere else. Everyone new and advanced is comfortable to ask questions and makes the atmosphere the perfect place for growth in skills and as a person. The place is overall great vibes and I can’t wait to see how far everyone goes
Julie123 L: best Muay Thai training
James McCracken: My son loves the boxing classes.
Alexander Ball: Positive:Communication,ProfessionalismIsha at the front desk was very helpful in answering my questions.
Z Wood: Best Muy Thai class I have ever taken, the trainers are amazing. Worth every penny.
Julius: One of the best MMA gyms in Michigan. Great environment to learn.
sam kern: Great place to train would definitely recommend.
Jeff Glover: This place is not even open. Their hours online and posted on their page are not accurate.
Shubham Gupta: Love this place! Can't put it in words...Amazing coaches and healthy environment.
J: I cant say enough about this place. The atmosphere at final round is great. I have been training Muay Thai for about 2 months even though I am not very good everyone in the class is extremely helpful and encouraging. Even though I will never actually fight in a competition, it's a great place for weight loss and be around positive people.
Alain Lefevre: Solid facility and excellent instructors. Other members are incredibly patient, as long as you are willing to listen and learn people make the time to work with you. Great pricing, and a very accommodating class schedule.
Kevin: Awesome no-gi jiu jitsu! The facility has just had a new addition, so there is roughly 50% more space to train. The mats are clean, and the instruction is friendly and informative. I joined immediately and hope to train there for a long time to come.
jespenshade: Final Round is the best gym in the area. I was very out of shape when I started coming, so I was quite nervous about classes. However I had no reason to be hesitant since everyone at the gym was incredibly welcoming and supportive. Coming to Final Round was the best decision I could have made and it has become an integral part of my daily routine. Adam is a superb boxing coach and personal trainer, who will always challenge you and support the pursuit of your goals. You will not regret training here.
Lou Paris: I want to say a huge THANK YOU to all the Final Round Team! I am recovering from a ruptured Achilles, and kickboxing was my “smooth” coming back to sport. I never did kickboxing before and I LOVED it. People were friendly, classes were intense, the gym was clean (!), coaches were helpful and it was easy to train while respecting my limitation. Sadly I am leaving the country but I recommend the gym to anyone who wants to train AND have fun at the same time! THANK YOU! :D
John Chinchen: I've trained at a couple of different gyms in Ann Arbor, and this is hands down the best place for BJJ. The owner, Chris, is a real stand up guy who chose some excellent instructors. You seriously won't find anywhere else in Michigan with better no-gi training. Consider yourself lucky if you live nearby this gym.
Stepan Gorbachev-Yamamoto: An overall great experience: people are friendly, focused and are trying their best!
Drake Rusk: My time here was amazing. If you walk in, train, and show some humility you will make friends and after coming for a little while, these people will feel like family. Matee is funny, everyone is patient and friendly. I don't live here anymore, but still visit Final Round when I'm in the state.
tyler F: Quality of training is great, however I did not like how they handled my money and ousted me from the gym. Tried to overcharge me $900 after I paused my account and was gone. They wouldn't let me train because they didn't pause my account when I asked. Waited over a month for the owner to get back to me. Wouldn't let me come back because an ex girlfriend didn't want me there because I broke up with her. Always paid and never caused any issues there. They cut off my ability to train Muay Thai with Matee. Absolutely unacceptable treatment. I was one of their first customers and I always paid my membership fees.

A2 Martial Arts: what do users think?
John Herlocher: A2 Martial Arts is a great school. Very open and welcoming.
Michael Taylor: Great place very welcoming and treats people amazing!!
Mike F.: This place is a joke. BEWARE. The female employee or owner who works the front is very very disrespectful (one very is not enough). I am born and raised in Ann Arbor and understand what good customer service is. She doesn't have any. I will be looking for a different Martial Art center for my children.
Dennis Chiang: Great place to lean WTF TaeKwonDo! Great with kids and families.

Wright's Fitness: what do users think?
Brian Hall: Grandmaster Wright and his black belts are patient and respectful teachers who encourage students of all ages to learn traditional Okinawan karate. The classes are fun and you learn practical self defense skills while getting excecise at the same time. We originally enrolled our son at Wright's Karate to instill confidence and self control. In his ten years at the dojo he has developed far beyond our hopes and expectations. I highly recommend Wright's Karate.
Dan Hall: Tom Wright has been my personal trainer for over a year now. My doctor asked if there was anything they could do for me because my blood pressure was way down, my A1C sugar tests were way down, and I have lost almost 20 pounds. I feel much better and can go up and down steps all day. Not bad for someone over 70. I attribute this to the weekly workouts at Wright's Fitness & Karate. We work on strength, balance, and the program is geared to the needs of my age. Every session is a little different, definitely not boring. I have seen people of all ages there, and my grandson has been taking karate there for about 8 years, really enjoys it. The instruction is great, teaches discipline and builds strong bodies. It has even allowed him to win awards in a National Karate Competition.
Valerie Gross: My children have all gained valuable life skills with Sensei Wright. The motivated student gains opportunities to lead. The students with concentration problems are given many opportunities to practice focusing. All my children’s ability to memorized has increased as they’ve practiced their basics and kata. Self-defense is a regular part of classes. Wonderful dojo!!
Aaron Pearson: Tom Wright has been my personal trainer for just under a year. I appreciate the one-on-one attention and client focus he offers as a coach and trainer. Workouts are thorough and offer a lot of variety. His facility and equipment also provides a lot of options, whether you're looking for MMA training, strength training, aerobics, or all of the above. Highly recommend!
Jeremy Chambers: Sensei Wright and his black belt students could not have been more welcoming to my 6 year old son after Covid shut down his prior martial arts place permanently. My son enjoys this style of karate, and looks forward to every class. Its fun watching his knowledge for martial arts grow, and its encouraging for parents watching the class to see some real life child danger scenarios being worked on. I have no regrets and trust Sensei Wright with my child.
Andrew Babnik: For someone who works out all the time, the routine can get boring. Wright's Fitness was my solution. Tom caters each visit to my specific needs. As a thirty year old former division one athlete, my mornings with Wright's fitness are the closest I have been to my college workouts in a decade!!!! Highly recommend!!!!
Mollie Bruno: After being hit by a car on my bike, I needed to recover from a concussion for serveral months. Although I'd been fit in the past, after nearly 5 months of rest, I was more unfit than I had been in more than 20 years. Because of the sign by Platt Rd, I called Tom and he worked with me as a personal trainer, not only getting me back into shape, but better shape than I'd been with strictly cardio workouts. Even though my abilities were up and down due to injury, I always made progress, never re-injured or overtaxed. Sometimes I was a little sore, but I was never truly hurt. I continue to train and am now even able to start karate. I highly recommend Tom's personal training as well as his dojo, especially for someone who is somehow not the norm physically, due to injury, age, lifestyle, or genetics. He's an amazing teacher and kind person who has created a supportive community that helps people get healthier, from whatever starting point.

Asian Martial Arts Studio: what do users think?
Daniel Lopez: I started training Hung Gar Kung Fu at AMAS when I was 13 years old. This was by far the best decision I ever made. AMAS became my home away form home. Training here Increased my overall physical fitness and helped spring board me to the career path I am on now. The instruction here is top notch, and after leaving Ann Arbor to go to college and experience the quality of instruction at other TMA schools I can say this with 100% confidence. This is not a McDojo by any stretch of the imagination. If your goal is to get a black belt in a year or less then this is not the place for you. When I get myself settled back in Ann Arbor, I will be coming back to AMAS to continue my learning.
Steve Stanley: The first martial art i took was kung fu with Sensei Karl Scott back in 1984. Awesome intrstuctor and the dojo was home away from home. I also studied in the aikido program for a short time. A very good group to train with.Steve Stanley.
