Asian Martial Arts Studio: what do users think?
Daniel Lopez: I started training Hung Gar Kung Fu at AMAS when I was 13 years old. This was by far the best decision I ever made. AMAS became my home away form home. Training here Increased my overall physical fitness and helped spring board me to the career path I am on now. The instruction here is top notch, and after leaving Ann Arbor to go to college and experience the quality of instruction at other TMA schools I can say this with 100% confidence. This is not a McDojo by any stretch of the imagination. If your goal is to get a black belt in a year or less then this is not the place for you. When I get myself settled back in Ann Arbor, I will be coming back to AMAS to continue my learning.
Steve Stanley: The first martial art i took was kung fu with Sensei Karl Scott back in 1984. Awesome intrstuctor and the dojo was home away from home. I also studied in the aikido program for a short time. A very good group to train with.Steve Stanley.

URSA Academy - Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu Ann Arbor: what do users think?
Phillip Moorlag: I train in Kalamazoo and was in Ann Arbor for work and Kris and his team welcomed me with open arms! Awesome gym and team.
Josh Jiang: Great coaches and welcoming environment. Has a good mix of beginners and upper level belts. Everyone at the gym is super friendly and fun to roll with. Was at the gym for about 8 months while I was in Ann Arbor for school and wished I had joined sooner! This place is the best!!!
baperrizo: Great program, both gi and no gi sessions, friendly to out of town drop ins, nice facility with friendly staff.
Sarah Wroblewski: Great place to train! Especially impressed with the atmosphere for women; lots of ladies training jiu jitsu and very positive attitudes. Students aren’t overly aggressive and upper belts are generally helpful. Professor is extremely knowledgeable and follows a regular curriculum which makes it easy to learn new techniques and refine old ones into an actual system. Facility is clean and staff is excellent. Only three reasons it’s not 5 stars: 1) is it is pricey- you don’t get that many classes for such a high price tag (although I also understand Ann Arbor rent...), 2) they don’t allow people to come to open mat from other gyms in the immediate area, and 3) you can only wear IBJFF approved gi colors (blue, black, white). Still, would definitely recommend it!
Colette Rackleff: Clean spacious facility. Welcoming front staff. Head coach is humble and approachable. Excellent high-level technique taught in an way that is organized & easy-to-grasp. Training partners are supportive, receptive, & conscientious. Female friendly. Lots of higher belts to train with. My only disappointment is that this gym is not in my home town!
Marissa Barsotti: Positive:QualityI'm new to kickboxing and I couldn't have picked a better place! The instructors are knowledgeable and cater the classes to all skill levels. It's a very friendly environment and I always leave class feeling great. The prices are solid for how many classes you can take a week. I will definitely continue to take classes here.
Keely Zuri: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueLove this place! Challenges me and keeps me on my toes, I never get bored with the classes, they are well organized and a lot of fun!
Josh Rojas: My boys and I are proud members of this unique and special tribe. The thoughtful and detailed programs they’ve developed help anyone enjoy the challenging and rewarding sport of BJJ. All of the coaches are top shelf, do not hesitate to sign up and enjoy everything BJJ has to offer! They make you feel like Norm from cheers except the beer is a lot of focus and sweat. It’s your neighborhood BJJ bar.
Jessica Rhiannon: I love Ursa! I’ve been attending the kickboxing class here for about 6 months and I’m still really enjoying it. A friend recommended it to me years ago, but I was too intimidated to try it, so when another friend recommend it to me this spring, I decided to give it a go. I worried that the classes would be too difficult or become boring (contradictory, I know), but Jay does a great job of adding different skills and layers so there’s always something new to learn. I love the instruction style – Jay is attentive and has a calm and methodical way of running class. I got in a bad car accident about a year ago so occasionally I need modifications for certain drills and Jay is always flexible. Also, folks are really friendly! Great workouts, great people.
Ben Ratner: Dropped in at Ursa a few months back and had a really great experience. Great facility and instructors and students of all skill levels. Would highly recommend this gym to anyone who’s looking to train or learn BJJ in Ann Arbor.
Kevin Daher: Friendly staff, professional coach and excellent atmosphere.I start my training more then four month ago, my health improved, I developed good discipline.we lucky to have a very good coach with a lot of experience.I am sure I will continue my training at URSA
Stacy Fowler: My “box gym” closed down at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Like many, I had to switch up my routines. With a background in Karate, I found URSA Fittness Kickboxing (FKB) in February of this year and haven’t turned back.I have and continue to be impressed by the small class sizes that allow space when social distancing is necessary as well as individuation for all levels; the ever changing routines that still challenge me after nine months; and most importantly the friendly, encouraging, guidance from coach Jay and the URSA family.
Maricela Avalos: Positive:Communication,Professionalism
Andrew Lamoreaux: Very nice gym and staff
Gabrie Italia: I visit Ann Arbor from time to time and I called hoping to drop-in for a jiu-jitsu class for when I do visit. I live about an hour away and I called asking about the drop-in fee. However, the academy believed that an hour away distance is “too close” and would not let me drop-in for a class. I would have to become a member if I were interested. It’s frustrating that the gym seems exclusive and considers an hour distance to be too close.
Josh Barrett: A very experienced, knowledgeable, and professional staff. If you've been on the fence about getting into this, rest assured that this isn't a bully-academy or a meathead parade of people trying to prove how "tough" they are to more inexperienced players. I continue to learn and couldn't be more grateful.
DOMINIC MAGLIOCCO: Finally took the plunge and started BJJ. As an older student I didn’t expect what came next. The coaches made sure each and every student was involved and pushed you not only physically but mentally. I have to say I felt welcomed and part of a family right after the first class. Two months in and covid hit. All the training on the mats stopped BUT all the coaches have stayed interactive to help with virtual learning along with video and audio lectures with great teachings. This by far has been a fantastic experience and know I will be here for many years to come. I would recommend this academy to anyone who asks.
Dustin Vegas: Dropped in for a couple weeks. Very friendly team and excellent instruction. I'll be back whenever I'm in town.
Ron Hay: Great instructors and a really positive environment!
Brittany Hamilton-Reed: URSA Fitness Kickboxing program really has changed me for the better and imI beyond grateful. The staff is amazing and always helpful. The workouts are designed to meet people where they are and you have the freedom to push yourself. There is always something new in the routines and the coaches really pay attention to technique to ensure you are being safe and preventing injury.FKB has not only boosted my weight loss but it's just fun to come in and workout with folks.
Andrea Hardy: My friend found an offer to try three classes for fitness kickboxing at a great deal. Her and I couldn't line up our schedules to try at the same time so I went alone. At the first class, it wasn't a bad experience but it definitely wasn't something that had me convinced. Then come on the high pressure sales tactics where their minimum packages were maybe 20 classes and if you "buy tonight" you can save $100. I'm against those sales tactics so I didn't buy. Later I discussed with another friend and she goes to a place that has prices similar to the price with the $100 discount and lets you pay per class instead of agreeing to some $200+ package the first night. You don't even know yet how you'll feel the next day! Needless to say - neither my friend or I ever came back for a second class, and what's probably the worst part is that they still send text messages over a year later asking if I'm still interested. Nope.

A2 Martial Arts: what do users think?
John Herlocher: A2 Martial Arts is a great school. Very open and welcoming.
Michael Taylor: Great place very welcoming and treats people amazing!!
Mike F.: This place is a joke. BEWARE. The female employee or owner who works the front is very very disrespectful (one very is not enough). I am born and raised in Ann Arbor and understand what good customer service is. She doesn't have any. I will be looking for a different Martial Art center for my children.
Dennis Chiang: Great place to lean WTF TaeKwonDo! Great with kids and families.

Ann Arbor Black Belt Academy: what do users think?
Clara Fernandes: I would highly recommend this place. Master Rob is an amazing person and experienced trainer.
ravi daitota: I have tried 3 different Marshal arts academies for my 3 year old. The instructor here really knows how to work with such young students. My daughter loves this place more than other 2. The fee structure here is amazingly affordable for the quality of training. Parking is shared with other businesses. 04 /01/2022. They moved to a new location near carpenter/ Packard intersection opposit to DFCU.
Yogesh Chavarkar: Definitely recommend for kids and adults too. Instructor has great knowledge and unique ability to explain and teach every form and defense technique. I am a student too :) and see the clear teaching mastery in comparison to the past schools my kids attended in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti area.
Sammy Hamed: Very nice clean healthy environment. My son is 5 and has learned a lot within a month. We will continue to come to this outfit and look forward to having our son learn much more from the Ann Arbor Black Belt Academy.

Ann Arbor Tae Kwon DO School: what do users think?
Dmitri Kapousta: I have been a student and then an instructor at Ann Arbor Tae Kwon Do for 7 years now, and I can truthfully say that the experience has made me a better, more well-rounded person. I feel that the school as a whole and Master Instructor are both dedicated to teaching students how to perform all techniques the right way, as opposed to the easy way. The classes provide an environment of honest feedback and continue to push students to give 100% effort in order to see results. I believe that no one is ever finished learning a martial art, and needs to adapt to varying requirements of each Master Instructor. I think that any student who is committed to learning Tae Kwon Do from a Korean Master will be able to gain a great deal of self-discipline, respect, strength, and perseverance from attending Ann Arbor Tae Kwon Do School.
I Hate Wedge Salads: This place is terrible. The owner is rude and made me feel so uncomfortable. I worked really hard to be less than a year away from my black belt in another city. The instructor told me that before I could even consider what rank he'd put me at, I'd have to spend at least 6 months "getting in shape." Not a great confidence booster. I saw the start of a kids class before I walked out, and I don't understand why parents would subject their children to that. You can learn the art from someone that isn't a total dick. When I asked him about other schools in the area, he shot them all down saying they were expensive and low quality. Now he's listed on Living Social, but the linked website from living social is not his normal one, and the address on that linked website doesn't match the LS deal.
Mukesh Nyati: My son is learning this art for last 4 yrs at Ann Arbor Tae Kwan Do and I can clearly see his progress not just at the physical level but at mental level as well. The teachers have constantly working with him to improve his skills at various levels. In addition to kicks, punches and sparring, there is a lot of stress on stretching too, which is great. We have also started our little one and hope that he can grow on to become as stranger too!

Ambrose Academy of Wing Chun: what do users think?
AEB 5 Productions: I'm Albert Bryant I Enjoy Wing Chun Do Very Much. It's The Best System I've Ever Learned. I'm Always Happy To Learn New Things! I Encourage Anyone Who Wants To Learn Self Defense To Take Up Wing Chun Do! It's A Great System & Sijo James DeMile Studied Under The Late Bruce Lee & Helped With The Development of The One Inch Punch. I'm Apart Of The Online Training & I Always Looking Forward To Learning New Things About The Art Of Wing Chun Do & Bruce Lee. Sijo James DeMile Is One Of My All Time Favorite Martial Artist, Because He Knows How To Teach & Is Very Well Schooled. Also He Was Good Friends With Sifu Jesse Glover & Other Well Known Student's Of Bruce Lee From The Seattle Period! Like I Mentioned Before This Is The Best System To Study For Real Combat Situations. (Street Fighting & Survival)
Paul S.: The most positive martial arts schools I have ever been to, one of the best real life self defense programs, and self development programs around. Absolutely the best all around school in this region of the states. Ambrose Academy is the last place I visited (on my martial art quest) and the only place I stayed. It will be for you too!
Aaron Jones: Great staff, informative, good energy
Deborah Williams: Wonderful and expertise instructors!!! My husband and I highly recommend Ambrose ACADEMY for both children, (all ages) and adults. Our teenage daughter,(Vanessa) truly enjoys this form of Martial Arts,(Wing Chun). Learning environment is great! Kind, respectable and family-oriented feeling! 👍🏾💯👍🏾💯👍🏾💯👍🏾💯👍🏾💯
erik land: Literally the greatest form of martial arts known to man INMHO!! I have had 2 daughters here for kids class. MRS. Liz is amazing with children. My daughter has grown in so many aspects in the 4 months she has been attending. I myself joined the adult class 3 months ago and can attest from my troubled past, street fighting and past history of okinowan karate that WING CHUN DO is the greatest self defense system on the plant!! Also everyone becomes like a family unit and supports and teaches one another. They are now my second home. Come and check them out you won't be disappointed to say the least.
Albert Bryant: Wing Chun Do is probably the best martial art's system out there. Best practical methods I've ever seen.
James Jackson: By far the best martial arts school in Michigan, possibly the country. Sigung Rocco Ambrose was promoted to Grand Master, inheritor of the Wing Chun Do System by James Demile, but it's more then that. The Ambrose Academy is a family and fosters a true learning environment. All their programs, Kids and Adults alike are top notch. If you are looking for a martial arts school, this is where you should go.
Josh Hanai: The atmosphere and instructors are great. Been going for over 3 years and you always learn something new every time. If you want something simple, practical, and efficient, Wing Chun Do at Ambrose Academy is where you want to go.
AL: Been Training for over 2 years now and the is amazing and the people are great.
William Ortner: I have trained there for 6 months now. The people and the atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming and the art it's self is Awesome, wish I would have found it 20 years ago.
Alexandru Pop: Hands down the best martial arts instructor I have ever touched hands with and the most explained science based art I have ever encountered. Try the basics class, only $30 and you won't regret it!Even better than traditional Wing Chun with improvements on the old system. If you want to fight anything like Bruce Lee, this is the place to start.
Jonathan Potter: Offers solid martial arts and self defense training. As a practitioner for 10 yrs, I can say that these guys are the real deal.Regarding style, they (James DeMile) took what Bruce Lee was doing with Wing Chun / early JKD and made some modifications. The results are street applicable. Probably not your place if you're looking for a traditional style or kung-fu movie theatrics like snake fist, drunk monkey, etc... On the other hand, this isn't Kimbo Slice either. So somewhere in the middle. The teachers have trained in other arts which adds to the mixed approach. The atmosphere is welcoming. They do a lot of children classes and women's defense work shops. Many of the adults in adult classes have their children enrolled in kids class, so it creates a unique family-affair vibe that I haven't seen at other places. The place is long on skill and short on ego. I recommend it.

Shorinji Kempo: what do users think?
Stephen Stanley: Shorinji Kempo is an awesome martial art. What makes training in this art so great; it is the people that you will train with. The head Instructor Sensei Gary has been my Instructor for almost 12 years. There are no egos just like minded folks that want to get in shape, learn a self-defense and help each other grow.Steve Stanley

Quest Martial Arts: what do users think?
Zakaria Mohamed: Excellent place and training
Justine Wu: Our child has blossomed during the four years she has been training at Quest Martial Arts - her growth is not limited to the katas and the physical movements, she has also gained personal life and leadership skills. Her work towards black belt was a slow, steady process appropriately tailored for her age and developmental stage. One of the best things about QMA is the mixed age classes - they all learn from each other being at different stages of training and life. We are especially appreciative to Mr. Wheeler for guiding her through each step .
Pallavi Jha: My son - Tushar- has been going here since he was in Pre school. He is a high schooler now and is on his way to a black belt. He has loved every session he has had at this place - even now during COVID - the staff has been simply magical! He has improved his focus, self discipline, overall physique and outlook in life. Highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to truly get the most out of learning martial arts!
dave walsh: My son had been asking me to do "karate lessons" for about a year before I started to investigate. When I first walked into Quest I saw a simple unframed sign in the dojo that made me feel like I was in the right place. It said something along the lines of "we are not teaching your kids how to fight, we are teaching them how to manage their emotions." This has been one of the best benefits of my son's attendance at quest. He's going on one year, and has improved his focus and emotional responses significantly. As my son's training went on I decided that I liked the classes and instructors so much, I started training there as well, and have felt significant benefits both physically and mentally. The community environment is also amazing, with everyone welcoming myself and my son actively and openly. The martial arts aren't for everyone, but if you think it might be for you at all, this is the place to find out. I have not been disappointed once.
Calvin Anderson: I know a demon who trains here, it does not say good things about this facility.
Julia Graham: Quest had changed my life. I have learned many invaluable self defense skills, and improved my confidence and self discipline greatly in the year I have been taking classes there. The teachers are amazing and everyone is very friendly. I felt so welcomed to take classes and join the community.
Vanessa Leslie: Quest has been an amazing experience! They have fantastic teachers that are really great at engaging the kids and getting them to really listen to what is being said. It's even better that that also reflects at home. Highly recommend.
Cliff Davis: My sons are 8 and 6. They have been attending Quest for 3 years now. The difference between Quest and the other martial arts program they were in before is, Quest Martial Arts is one big family. The owners are very attentive to all of their students and parents. The instructors are students who have worked hard and earned the privilege to become leaders in the dojo. I love this place! #blackbeltandbeyond
Joshua Hoffman: Won 2 week trial membership after finishing little league for the season.Super gracious staff. We decided not to move forward for various logistical/financial reasons, but look forward to visiting them again when the time is right. My words to the staff"These past 2 weeks have been magical. We have had a wonderful time in our private and group lessons. My 3 boys and I all earned our white belts, memorized our lines from the student creed, learned important lessons about self-discipline, focus and respect, and felt immensely welcomed and supported by our teacher's (Keith, Stephanie, etc).I am humbled by your generosity (the Gi, the Tshirts, the smiles, the trial classes) and by your graciousness even though we aren't continuing right now.We hope to see you in the future someday soon.Domoarigatougozaimashta!"
Steven Spalding: Positive environment, very knowledgeable instructors, and great physical and life skills taught.
Nithya Rajesh: Be very wary of the fee increases at Quest Martial Arts. We paid close to $1800 the first year of martial arts for our child. ( $115/month and $400 Annual fee) . Right before our contract was up for renewal & my daughter was moving to the next level, Quest more than doubled their prices to $250/month and $800 one time payment and had to sign a 4 yr commitment . $3200 per year! We liked the martial arts sessions there but could not justify such a huge increase in fees. We are not sure how they are in business with such high fees.
Bryce Drobnick: Ive been going to quest now for 9 years, and I"m also on the instrutional staff. I love my training experience. I've learned alot, like focus, respect, self-disicpline, comunication skills and much more.
david parsons: The Quest community is fantastic. The instructors, staff and leadership are great and foster personal growth and confidence in all areas of life. We highly recommend this fine school to everyone.
Mikke Mus: I have been going there for years and to be honest the instructors are comedic and very helpful at learning to defend yourself.
